It took longer than it should have for me to find, but I prevailed. Afterwards, I hiked to the waterfalls. A very long and slippery hike, but the waterfalls were nice. TFTC
A smelly old winch, but quite nice to see it preserved. A sunny day, so we were surprised not to see anybody else at the picnic area. Made it easier for us to grab the cache unseen though . Thanks for placing this one.
One last quick find at the end of the day. I knew the winch was there, but the size still surprised me when I turned the corner. TFTC
Today from Slope Point to Cathedral Cave I found 14 caches.
It was a nice trip.
All caches was OK.
Thanks to all.

An easy find. Wasn't planning on finding any caches today but we have blown a radiator here and are awaiting a tow home.
I have no pen to sign the log but posting a pic instead. Cache is damp too.

Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I now live full-time in our caravan & travel the country visiting places we want to visit … we are now parked up at the NZMCA Niagara campsite for a couple of days, exploring in & around the area … we went for a bit of a drive this afternoon & thought it would be rude not to check this cache out … I’ve also been fascinated with the early sawmillers & the conditions they endured … found with no issues, log completed & cache returned … pleased to add another 'smiley face' to the tally … we even found time to walk the Waipohatu Loop Track & visit both waterfalls … TFTC ... Day #2 of my Summer Holiday and time to explore around the southernmost part of the South Island
Lots of muggles around but they didn't seem interested in what I was doing so made a quick find and off I go TFTC

Out and about west of the settlement at Niagara Falls.
If it wasn't for the tight time schedule I would have liked to do the waterfall track. Another day.
Cheers for the cache.

24 October 2021 10:46 am MacPacDad is complaining that all I seem to do on this trip is find single lane gravel roads... but is throughly enjoying what we find at the end of those roads! TFTC kiwiarmy
Cache 686 a bit of a frosty strat this morning to my 3 day Catlins holiday so hit the road a little late, after about 70km this was my first needed stop, quick look at this interesting piece of machinery and then a cache found just as quick, cache is in excellent shape T4TC
On my around the bays, and diverted to this one, maybe a gravel road, but the van did ok, found fairly quickly, great machinery, tftc kiwiarmy
A day trip was in order to head to the Catlins area to sign off a couple of geotour caches and a few other caches for challenges and stats.
Quickly found once I had checked one possible spot. Interesting that they left it here. Tftc

Found this one all wet and manky. Removed wet trinkets and bag. Left temp RITR log to help it along. Cheers.
Sunday 8 November. Left Zara resting at Niagara. Toby and I are off exploring again. Today its the Niagara - Fortrose loop with lots of unpaved roads mostly in great condition. So lets go!!
Toby, Zara and I are on a 3 week geo adventure of Cromwell, Southland, Catlins, Balclutha with a day in Dunedin and quick stop in Timaru. With Lenny, my trusty navigator and TBD my companion/mascot. we managed to visit lots of green boxes, now happy faces with the odd sad one. Did some LABs , earth caches, virtuals and wherigos, all chucked into the mix to rack up 500 odd caches. Lots of kilometers, lots of exploring and lots of fun. Thanks to all COs for our wonderful experience.

Really fun spot with lots of friendly fantails first small swap heaps of cool things inside amazing spot and awesome find
Somehow I bypassed this one when I was through here a couple of years ago. I wasn't going to make that mistake twice! What a lovely spot but no time for exploring it today. TFTC # 15,470
Zowaar! From Slope Point to this nice bush reserve, and the cache. After lunch, hiked to the falls. Thx! Simone
A week of work in Invercargill. Finished for the day so what to do. Take the Rental car for a little tour doing a loop through Fortrose, Waipapa point, Slope point and Tokanui. Wow what an old relic this was. Cache quickly found. Thanks for the cache.
Worth the trip to have a look here. We didn't have time for the walks but have heard they are nice so will have to come back. TFTC

We are in New Zealand for 10 Weeks, enjoying our parental time together with our little daughter.
We are already in the 7th week and our trip is slowly going to its end. At the moment we are in the nice, wild and untouched area of the Catlins.
This hidden place is at on our way to one of the many waterfalls. This one is not the most recommented in this area. However, we liked it most and it is a nice hike through the wilderniss.
Found it together with Sinlkid

Damp and dismal drive in to cache area. Road good though which was cool. A lot of ferns to choose from until I reread the description then all good tftc
Tftc. A nice w/o ch. Soon fix it up with a bit of WD40.
Saw a walking track to a waterfall. Not been there. Too late today but will return tomorrow.

A nice day for a drive in the country do where to go .
After a quick look at the map a trip to the east coast to visit some places I have not been for many years.
A cache or two along the way will add to the fun. So off we went with annielin,Abbykitt and 4grandma.
Another Bush winch to add to my photo collection.
I have a steam powered one on Stewart island and a petroleum powered one. This is the second diesel tractor type.
I just love the way our pioneers used what was available and made it work.
This is a later version and is more personally made.
But I would just like see how they made it all work .
Health and safety were not a major consideration back then .
Thanks for the hide

Another interesting place our new hobby has taken us to. Hubby had a good look at the winch and explained what it did for me. We then found the cache, signed log and left a trackable I had picked up earlier in holiday. Met up with a DOC worker concerned someone had left a fire going, we offered our water bottles but he was happy to go to river. Thanks for this cache kiwiarmy.
In the Catlins for the weekend with 5 of my work friends for the Tokanui LANDSAR fundraiser walk. Stopped here on the way home for a stroll. Beautiful forest! TFTC
Once I read the description properly this was a nice quick find. Only a brief stop along our journey today, thanks for bringing me here. TFTC
Quick find after a long walk to the waterfalls. Beautiful forest.

Good clear instructions, but I still managed to overshoot it. Spotted it on my way back. Thanks for the hide
This was the spot for todays lunch (as the slope point was definitly too windy). The cache was found afterwards, after some gps difficulties.
Thanks for hiding and maintaining the cache!
Thanks for hiding and maintaining the cache!
Since it was way too windy at Slope Point to stop long, we came here for our lunch break. Thanks to the many trees it was much calmer and also warmer (it is a beautiful and sunny day).
Looking for this Cache took longer than necessary, because I hadn't read the listing clearly enough, I ended up searching in all the wrong places. Finally I found myself in the right spot and could find it. Everything is in good condition.
Thanks for this Cache!

During a lunch break right next to ground zero GolmarKlonk could quickly grab this cache.
Thanks to the hint it was clear where to search and soon I had the cache in hands. Interesting winch indeed. Thabks for showing us this spot and for the cache! We had a nice lunchbreak here. Greetings from Germany, GolmarKlonk
It seemed we were the only people in the area first thing this morning, so peaceful! TFTC
I love learning of history i never knew about, geocaching helping me with that. A quick find of this rusty Fordson and the hidden treasure. Thanks.
on today's schedule was a visit to the catlins. sunny weather, beautiful views, historically interesting places and some caches along the road made it a very pleasant day. in the evening i could even watch some seals. TFTC!
#4140. Day 6 of the southern adventure. After attending a conference in Te Anau over Queens Birthday weekend, we headed south and stayed overnight in Invercargill. Today was a trip to the Catlins before heading back to Dunedin airport. Heading through a few back roads to reach this cache. Nice to see the old bush winch. Let the GPS settle as the bush was dripping wet and didn't want to dive in too soon. However my muggle friend was keener than me and soon had the cache in hand. Signed the log and replaced the cache as found. Thanks for hiding it here kiwiarmy.
Another lovely area. Spent some time looking at the machinery as a couple of muggle campers took their time packing up their gear close to the gz. Once they took off it was a quick find. All in order. TFTC
Out for a Sunday drive. No signpost at the corner but co'ods said turn in here. Checked over the Fordson and turned my attention to the cache. SL the dry book holding up well in the clean strong bag and returned cache to hide. Some big heavy animal has left it's hoof prints around the GZ, I would not like camping here with the bovine on the loose at night. TFTC
Down from Northland visiting. Made a trip east today to see the sights and look for some caches. Really interesting old piece of machinery. I wonder when it was last running..?? A quick find with the good clue. TFTC
Cache # 3,662 - A dreary morning for Pufura and me, and yet there was a picnicking family near GZ. Fortunately they stuck to their car rather than near the GZ. A quick find at the interesting site. TNLNSL. TFTC!

Waitangi Weekend in the Catlins. A quick find before we did the short loop walk. Wonder what company ran this winch? And how recently?
