Oops - didn't realise this was out of action. A quick look at GZ confirmed that it isn;t there any more - some excellent hidey holes though.
As this cache has been out of action for too long, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. The track is again closed due to the second eruption from Upper Te Maari crater last week. Fortunately the track has suffered no damage this time. GNS advise that these phreatic eruptions will continue with little or no warning for months to come.
The track has been closed since the eruption. Now at last the huge job of reinstating the damaged section has been completed the crossing track is to reopen the coming weekend. Please note that gz received a generous coating of volcanic ash which has become sticky grey goo which may delay reinstatement of the cache but we shall see.
Eruption risk has prevented replacement of this cache. Ill informed visiting Cachers should consider this when requesting this cache be archived or replaced.
Hmmmm....cache was disabled in late February, the eruption was in early August. Maybe informed cachers will make their own conclusions!!!!
Completed Crossing with NovaLightning (who had found previously), it is deffinatly a gonner, couldn't a full set for the crossing. Well next time
Hiked in from the Mangaetepopo end to complete the crossing. As others have stated found a great place for a cache but nothing here.
Yep definitely not there, confirmed by others who found it last year and knew it's hiding place.
No luck for us either, found an empty can in the most likely spot. Does that count.
Sadly this was the only cache we missed finding today.
Like the previous log we found a very obvious hiding spot, but only found stashed rubbish.
Might be worth a quick run up and check

This cache is most probably muggled. Looked for it for a while but found only trash where the cache should be.
Beautiful location with a great view. We enjoyed the Crossing so much.
Even with the otherwise very tight box, the log is soaking wet. Didn't have the time to dry box and/or log - had to reach the shuttle at the carpark in time...

I loved the walk! I started at the carpark at 7:00am and finished it at 4:30pm (did the walk up Mt Ngauruhoe aswell).
Pitifully the batterie of my gps died after i came down from the summit. I checked all the caches yesterday on gc.com and read the names and hints but without gps it was impossible to find them - except of this one! I saw the bench and remembered something with a cache behind it so the only one for today but without using a gps^^!
Oh i ve met a lot of people from allover the world - im foreign too by the way!

Yes, the boys needed a breather just once in a while as they completed the Tongariro Crossing.
Nice view from the cache location! A quick find after the muggle sitting on the bench left. Good place for a breather indeed! Unfortunately we missed the Steamer since the route has been changed.

Find #521. Our seventh find on the Tongariro crossing today, under changeable weather (blue sky to mist to high cloud, by the time we arrived here). A truly amazing walk, although by this point, we were admittedly getting a little tired!
The track is in great condition, we loved the hexagonal lattice they put down on some parts of the track, it really helps with the footing on the downhill sections.
We soon arrived at the GZ, but there were 3 people sitting on the seat , but they were too busy talking to notice us and soon left. A nice quick retrieve in a wonderful location. Dropped off the Highlander bear TB. SL TFTC.

Given we had started at the other end of the crossing, the breather wasn't really needed. However another great excuse to stop and enjoy the surroundings and views. Dropped in TB. TFTC
And the breather was certainly welcomed. managed to find inbetween passing muggles. TFTC
And this was the next cache we found. We think we saw the finishline of the track. TFTC
Found during a great togariro crossing tour.

After crossing the trail we had a short break on the cache location. Thank you for this nice cache and best greetings from Germany from buddelflink & co.!

There's stealth and there's distraction and there's too tired to see what others might be doing! Take your pick it was all happening. Great area and stopping point. TFTC
Sitting on the rock weaving a flax flower while my crew got to hunt for the Cache, one way to distract the numerous muggles.

Lots of muggles resting here but luckily nzkeko was providing the distraction so we could find it.
nice quick find after the rels diverted the resting muggles with some scintillating conversation. great spot for a cache- a cool little pit stop! TFTC
Going for my record for one day!! Enjoying stopping off every now and again while on the long hike!! Tftc
During an awesome 4-week hiking trip into the Garden of Eden we stumbled into this one while doing the TAC! Weather was good, bit cloudy but clear. The cone of Mt. Ngauruhoe was only a few minutes visible. Thanks for this cache, greetz from NL , Ro & Jet

Thanks for the fun.

We will miss this one in the series. Too many muggles walking through, we did a few fast attempts, but with no success.
Had to wait a while before the closest muggels were gone. One of the many caches while doing the Toganriro Crossing today. TFTC!
Found this one on the way up to the Ketetahi Hut but only for a day walk. Otherwise I would have missed this part while doing the northern circuit. TFTC.
Once again a nice view like many parts of the crossing had to offer.

Nice easy find once the muggles were busy having their break and not watching us We made it this far and about another half hour further up the track, but could not make it to the Blue Lake as planned because the mists came down - that made it feel very 'Lord of the Rings' but a little too chilly for us TNLN TFTC
Lovely views, pleased to stop for a couple of minutes to search for cache. Soon found. SL TFTC
On this beautiful cloudless day we had a perfect day of hiking and caching.

Catching up (extremely belatedly) with the logging of our last family trek across the Tongariro Crossing. TFTC. Great series.
Getting dim now, bit of a scramble to find this one. clue helped. Will have to climb up soon to find the last few
Found on TNP exploration at 1240. Second time on crossing, back after 7 years. Still as beautiful as ever.
Keep New Zealand and Tangariro Park clean. Don't litter, put it in your pocket or a bag.

Last cache of the crossing for me, I have been to this spot from this side of the mountain before picking up caches along the way, this time I ran the complete crossing from the Ruapehu end, I got to the Breather spot and had to sit down to wait for a muggle man taking photo's, he departed but 2 more arrived, they were girls from I'd say America, picking their accents, after a couple of minutes they asked what the GPS unit was for, I told them about Geocaching and they were quite interested, so I said, "in fact there is one only 6 metres away...." So I retreived and let them read all about it on the stash notes while I signed the log, I offered them to sign the book and 1 of them took up the offer, who knows, maybe another converted muggle in the making......

As we headed down the mountain we enjoyed every opportunity to have a bit of a rest. Had to use some stealth with the cache at this end of the trail as the number of trampers seemed to increase and we coming both up and down. Muggles were seated on the chair when we got there but we had the numbers to create enough of a diversion to retrieve the cache. TFTC
This was a welcome cache and spot to stop at on the way down, particularly for Vera's knee. Stopped for a minute or two and sat on the seat taking in the view before continuing on downwards. TFTC!!!
Sure needed the breather not really to catch my breath but give poor feet and knees a rest. Sent one keen man to fetch while the rest of us 9 signed the log. Nice spot T4TC
We found this cache with Standa.Sefl during our holiday in New Zealand. New Zealand has very nice nature, thanks for all nice places. Greetings from Czech republic.
We spent great four weeks caching in NZ. NZ nature and the caches are amazing. Thanks for all the caches, the great adventure and greetings from Czech Republic.
Lots of tired trampers resting here, but the cache is well placed to retrieve discreetly, thanks!

7th cache of 10 on our trip over Tongariro. All caches were very nice and we had no problem to find them unseen despite the crowd. Some of the we did in cooperation with another german geocachers.
Thank you for great set of caches.
Thank you for great set of caches.
Very quick breather as ADV soon had the cache in hand, and the mission was to retreive the cars from the other end before the main group got to the car park.

Good to give the knees a break before heading down through the bush. A muggle was sitting very close to the cache but Mr TT managed to retrieve it whilst the rest of the group loitered about making a diversion. TFTC
A quick find by the advance party of ADV, YuGego4 and sp8sm8 as we forged ahead of the main group to get the cars all nicely positioned for their arrival at the Ketetahi end. Certainly a great spot for a rest and to take in the magnificent views.

During the Togariro Crossing, we had miserable weather most of the time, and Ketetahi hutch was just filled up with hikers who tried to find a dry spot for a short break. Therefore, we just had a small snack, and continued hiking. When we arrived here, the rain started to taper off, and since most of the crowd was still in the hutch, we could search for the cache without major problems. After we solved some light and reft-problems, we found the cache.

Found with Integrated Planning in 2010 before switching logs. Thanks! Must be one of the most amazing places I've every been.
Thought this one was going to be tricky, as there were quite a few muggles having a breather at this spot. Not a problem in the end, as we just placed our packs strategically and had yet another drinks break while groping for the cache.

Thrilled to finally get round to doing the xing- & the weather held out too!! The FTF was a bit of a bonus-didn't know if it would still be there or not. Surprisingly easy to grab the cache, even with muggles sitting on the seat nearby. (oh so many muggles!!!)
