10-Jul-19
Found a likely looking spot but no cache. Perhaps it's missing, who knows? Will have to come back another day.

10-Jul-19
Couldn't find it tonight, had quite the scrounge around with Stormix. Thought we found the perfect spot (especially with all the wasp mentions) but wasn't in there and don't really feel like testing the hypothesis of them being dead!

29-Jun-19
Great place to hide and interesting site

24-Jun-19
Meeting hubby and kids here after motat, we had a look for a little while but there was a lot of rubbish and broken glass so we admitted defeat for today

** Find #2589**

On holidays from Australia and After visiting this amazing museum. One of the best I have seen, it was time to grab the cache. No wasps today, but a nice big butterfly sat and took my attention away until it got airborne, and flew away. It was a quick find as the cache tool was very exposed. A favorite point for the museum, butterfly, and the sneaky hide.

Thanks **stu4**

TFTC.

Nice way to end a day here.

06-Mar-19
Scrambled in the Bush. Great tool!

03-Mar-19
Hayleyfcy and I saw the aforementioned wasps nest and despite the potential downside, still had a look - though not that close to it. Turns out we actually approached the gz from the wrong side, and though hayleyfcy forced her way to the real gz, I went the longer, but less blocked way. She found a potential spot that would have been perfect, but no cache was there or nearby. We had pretty much given up when we turned to leave and I spotted it, in a similar feature, not far from the first one. Quickly and discretely we signed the log, then used some special skills to get back to the car. Thanks!

03-Mar-19
We were extremely cautious with this one as there were multiple mentions of wasps in previous logs, and also spotted a huge swarm of them near GZ. Had a look at this from the wrong side for a while, and decided to give up and cross the road to get a piece of information for another cache. Upon returning to get our car, I decided to give it another shot, and went around (the prickly way) to where the logs suggested the cache was. Once closer to where it was showing on the map, I quickly spotted a perfect-sized spot but no cache in sight, and was poking around while michaelteacher found it in a similar place nearby. Yay, glad we didn't give up. Tftc Smile

24-Feb-19
Out and about trying to nab some caches. This was to be the 5th of the day. Unfortunately grabbed something else. Ie a largish WASP nest. Got stung multiple times but lucky enough to have an epi pen close by. No cache and day over.

Sorry about the DNF... came here again and looked in a different spot.... "THERE IT IS!" That's a really good place to hide a cache. TFTC!!!!!!!!!!!

05-Oct-18
Have been here a few times while esparigus was hunting....
Picked up huge pile of trash from car park level!
Plus cache had been moved .. so I returned it to where I remember it being years ago!
Now it fits again with description and hint.
Also added new waterproof paper and removed soggy wad!
Think CO not active now....

05-Aug-18
A bit dirty but fun !

27-Jul-18
I poked around everywhere, including the wall and inside the prickly plant. I don't think the cache is there. BTWs, there's a lot of trash there and it's really gross so when checking maintenance, you might want to bring tongs and a plastic bag }:-p
But, I hope to see this cache soon, because I hear it's really good.

28-Jun-18
Quick find with a little exploration of the obvious sites. Nice tall wall the the dog enjoyed climbing up and running along. Thanks for the hide.

We were at Motat today with friends taking and they had found this cache about a year ago. They were quite keen for us to find it, and thankfully they stuck around and waited for us to make the find as I do not think we would have found it if they hadn't been giving quite a few hints. This area is very overgrown with some large spiky plants and also quite a bit of tree debris from the recent storms. I think it is more than a D1/T1, and the string of DNF's reflect that too. The GPS was also jumping around which did not help. Again thankfully the previous finders stuck around as we needed to borrow their 9 year old so he could use his little hand to retrieve the cache. The log is sodden, we managed to write on it but it will need replacing, unfortunately we did not intend to be caching today so we had nothing with us to replace it with. Found with darthcacher1 and purply.

07-Apr-18
Did not find but found a Wasp Nest

03-Mar-18
Found heaps of rubbish but no cache. A couple of likely spots where it could have been but no body home

06-Jan-18
Out with Merlot58 to find a few caches while the rain held out. Parked above GZ an d had to bush bash to the right spot. GZ is littered with rubbish and broken glass. It is also a monarch butterfly graveyard. found a likely spot that matched the description, but no cache. Expanded search area and happened to just spot the cache luckily otherwise it eould have been quite hard. Log was damp and hard to sign.

26-Nov-17
GPS was tricky here I didn`t know where to look at. But at the end found it. To be honest this area is full or rubbish , broken glass. If you really need a find go for it. But if not avoid.

21-Nov-17
Hmmm

29-Oct-17
It was dirty

29-Oct-17

29-Oct-17
Found by kater! Good find bit gross tho

25-Sep-17
Came here this morning to gran this one to continue my daily streak (Day #266).....but it wasn't a simple grab. Eventually found the nice hide but the retrieve was difficult. Log is full and didn't have a spare but managed to sign a wee space. Replaced the cache so it might be a bit easier for the next finder to retrieve. TFTC

09-Sep-17
Had a good look round after a day at motat but no luck

09-Sep-17
We were just walking away when we thought let's just try one more option glad that we did as we found it.log is full and one more space on the extra paper that was there.wasnt expecting it to be so hard.good day out at motat.

20-Aug-17
This was a lot more difficult than the D1/T1 as I was expecting. Took us a bit to get to this one

13-Jul-17
On a day trip with a mate to MOTAT2 for the hundredth time I've lived in Auckland (all my life). Spent most of the time geeking over aircraft and engines. Found this cache on the way out to the bus during a break in the weather. It wasn't in the place I initially thought it was, but a look at its position on my phone lead me on a slightly more ambitious search than I had initially expected. Found the cache right in front of me but didn't see the tool... it wasn't needed anyway. We both signed the log and returned the cache to its position TFTC stu4 Smile

04-Jun-17
That was harder than I thought haha

04-Jun-17
Harder than we thought it would be

15-May-17
Owner check please, maybe move towards the sign away from all the litter?

14-May-17
Didn't find today even with help from magdajh who previously logged it. Pretty sure it's gone.

14-May-17
Lots of rubbish dumped over the wall onto GZ made this an unpleasant foray. Shame as the swan plants here are massive and so is the rock wall and flora
No joy attempting to find

10-Apr-17
Spent 15 minutes looking, 2nd DNF today.. maybe I'm just having a bad day? It was just found yesterday...

09-Apr-17
Found in a few minutes

01-Mar-17
Its starting to get dark, and I am a little worried by the previous logs of the prickly part. Not wanting to donate blood, a tentatively meander my way to the cache, and see the GZ is a bit of a party place.

Avoided the hazards, quickly located the cache, but with no torch, this is going to be tricky. I have left a small piece of paper that I had written the co-ords and hint on. The next visitor hopefully can bring a new log. Thanks for the hide Big Grin

12-Feb-17
On a flying visit to Akl today, so had to try for a few caches as well. This is near to friends we visited, so was a logical choice. Like others before, was hoping that this might have been at the top, but with no luck there read some of the other logs and realised I needed to venture into swan territory. Quite thick down there and still took 2 or 3 minutes before I noticed the suspicious object.

Had forgot to carry a pen with me, so a trip back to the car to sign the log and then back down to brave the undergrowth. Just watch out for those huge agaves - the spikes along the edges of the leaves are vey sharp.

06-Feb-17
After a day at the zoo we went to find this cache. It took a long time to find and mummy hit her head on the sign and got concussion. Beware of the sign! TFTC

06-Feb-17
We had been out for a day at the Zoo on a gorgeous sunny Waitangi Day. We still had a bit of time left before we had to be back on the road bound for home, so we decided to see what caches were in the area that we could pick up. This one was nice and close and at the time of day it was it wouldn't be too busy.

We had contemplated catching the tram from the Zoo to MOTAT but realized that we didn't have a pen on us but there was one in the car. This meant walking half the way to MOTAT anyway, so we just went back to the car and then drove the rest of the way to GZ. Once there we parked the car and saw that we were almost right on top of it. This made narrowing down the search area easy. So off we walk towards GZ proper.

The GPS did bounce around a little bit which lead us to search in a few places the cache wasn't first. Mrs. Liver Bird unfortunately banged her head on the the MOTAT sign so sat our the rest of the search which Mr. Kiwi continued. The geo-senses kicked in as the GPS was ditched and the right area was finally searched. It took about a minute of searching before something was spotted that looked suspicious. Finally, the cache had been found. So upon retrieving the cache, the log was signed and the cache put back into it's hiding place.

TFTC.

Too dangerous for my partner-in-crime but loved the butterflies!

08-Jan-17
I parked here with my girls for our great afternoon at MOTAT today, and picked up this cache afterwards. As I now see others have said, we hoped it would be at the top, but I ended up having to brave the overgrown bushes below.

01-Jan-17
Stopped with lokky1 for a quick easy cache but it wasnt so quick and easy very over growen took a few mins to get to GZ .tftcBatgirl5 1 January 2017

One of three found in the area after our visit to MOTAT. Took a little while to locate. Hoping we’d be able to find it without leaving the carpark but no, we had to go down and rummage in the garden area below. Came away with bits of sticky fluid on some of my clothing. Must’ve picked it up from some of the vegetation - perhaps it’s seasonal but, whatever the case, it’s pretty messy stuff! At least we located the cache in the end. #1329. TFTC.

19-Dec-16
Next cache in the Westmere area, and while the fields were very busy, the GZ was relatively quiet and I could rummage around unhindered. This has got to be the hardest 1/1 cache I have ever found Wink. TFTC!

26-Oct-16
Parked nearby for the earth caches. Found this one as well.
Thanks for the cache stu4

09-Oct-16

Parked in the car park, just above GZ as it happened and rummaged through the garden to find the cache. Quick find, log book a bit damp but signable. This was my last find for the day, thanks to all the Pt.Chev CO's for an enjoyable afternoon today. cache #3734 and caching day #323. TFTC!

29-Sep-16
Last game of football for the season tonight for my caching buddy so while waiting for the game to begin I went to have a look for this nearby cache. Had tried to find it last time he played here without success but with some persistence it was finally found this evening and luckily there were no entanglements with the prickly inhabitant. TFTC

18-Sep-16
Not so difficult once I saw the log that it wasn't a terrain 1, circled the big prickly thing but retrieval is possible without self-harm. I will answer the question "if you prick me, do I not bleed", another day. Biggest challenge was parking and getting to GZ without getting muggled, this place was crazy busy with the football fields in full use. Got to see a neat little steam engine too, great. TFTC.

14-Sep-16
The comments helped. Pretty tricky with just the GPS and the hint though.

The travelling fox is satisfied =~,~=

07-Sep-16
Struggled to find this on a previous search, then looked somewhere else which confirmed my suspicion it isn't a T1. *TFTC stu4, #9144*

Ouch a couple of small holes in my hoodie from Mr Prickly. Found cache quickly once I took a route around him. Enjoyed the monarchs in the swanplant grove.

05-Jun-16
Tonnes of muggles around, fled a bit shady poking through the long grass. Suddenly had a thought to what the hint could mean, but it didn't pan out. Will be back, perhaps not on a weekend at midday.

04-Jun-16
Forgot about Saturday soccer so GZ was swarming with muggles. Decided to give it a shot anyway and managed to come up with the goods Smile TFTC

04-Jun-16
Wow what a stealthy hiding spot! Got poked in the eye searching through the grass but got it in the end thanks to the hints! Tftc Very Happy

24-Apr-16
A nice quick find while in the area.

21-Apr-16
Looked for a little while but what with the numerous cars passing by, pulling in and out of Motat and the wasps hanging around GZ, we didn't stick around for long. Unsure where it could be. We'll be back.

28-Mar-16
GPS had us in the wrong area for a little while but then fixed itself. We saw the autos and a bus, no planes or trains today. TFTC Smile

28-Mar-16

After a trip to the zoo we decided to come and grab this cache for today's cache.
I jumped down and after a bit of searching a couple of recent logs pointed me in the right direction where I spotted something and found the cache.
A nice quick find on the ides of March.

Got lucky on my second trip here. In a hurry so didn't stay for long but I've seen the plane here up, close and personal before. Very busy on weekends. People at the bus stop gave me funny looks. Prickly plant helped. Added more log room and scored 20 cents! TFTC Razz
