Up in Townsville exploring the area and helping the daughter move house. Staying at the Scout Park at Bluewater for a function too. Have looked at this Hill series a few trips ago and decided that today was the day to do them. Thanks for placing the geocache and a lot cooler today than summer to do them tftc sl

In Townsville for a long weekend with alphag_25, Decided to head out to collect as many on the Mt Louisa trail as possible, bit of a hard slog at times but managed to collect most of them. Havent been up here before despite living many years at the bottom of Mt Louisa. Great views.

12-Aug-23
Couldn’t find it after going bush for a whole

11-Aug-23
First find after repeating previous DNFs. Off the trail and down a wee bit and when I looked up it was looking back at me.

Another PT session this morning with the crew and 2 cars meant I didn’t have to rush. Had a patient colleague along for the walk and company. 6 finds we’re welcome as the day started to warm up.

26-Jul-23
Looked all around this tree after walking through shoulder height grass to where the gps took me unfortunately didn’t find

26-Nov-22
I ended up being late to the event and didn’t do myself any favours by picking up this cache. Looks like there has been a lot of tree and shrub growth since this was first placed if it had a better view at one point. I overshot the mark and went further down to check out that nook but returned to my senses and returned to the level I should have been at. In saying that it was easier to see climbing back up and went straight to it . Signed the log of the still well stocked cache. That’s my traditional for the day. I caught up with struggling BenM70 before catching up with burgo and Simon at the summit shelter and the event.

21-Sep-22
Found by Mr. Tessaboo as my gps had me looking 30m in the opposite direction
A bit of bush bashing required and he may or may not have had to fight a roo for claim over the cache but either way he came out victorious. Log signed. Cache returned exactly as found in it’s nook.

Sorry for the tardy logging...trying to catch up to clear my head.

MEGA Trip - day 5

Assembled the full MEGATRON crew (bella at waggy, dahumbug, tardis0061, crash2079) but today there was no specific plan other than to grab some more old school chaches and a trip up Mt Louisa.

Tried to approach via St Albans Rd but that way was blocked by a gate, so we relocated to the end of Bayswater Rd. It took longer to get to our target but we were able to get more caches.

Great to be back in town as part of The Megatrons ((The Bug, Crash, Tardis and myself).
Well done Townsville and Charters Towers of qualify and variety to go with the Mega.
We wanted to get to a certain cache and I suggested one way it more caches where spotted on another route so we headed there which took its time and toll with over 20000 steeps for the day, well by midday. A big and hot day as we tracked all over Mt Louisa finding caches and made a Bunus or 3.
Some great views and tricky hides along the way.
Maccas AC and frozen cache was a big welcome afterwards.
We completed the signing duties and re hid. TFTC

Some unloved on this one as we found The nook.

Tricky hide. Had to really go bush for this one. Was definitely worth hunting for. Love the adventure aspect. Found it with Antman. TFTC!!!

Urgh. This one was heaps off the track through long grass - which I hate. No luck, even though I found excellent places to put a cache. Did come home with ripe Burdekin Plums picked straight from the tree, so that's a win.

21-Jan-21
An hour or two to kill before my plane which was time enough for this new geotrail. This one was further off the trail and has not been found in 8 months!! THANKS for the hide

28-May-20
Puh. Seems like all caches of this series are exactly in the centre of thorny greenery. Got there in the end, although there wasn’t much of a great view from GZ due to the vegetation. Since the cache is well off the path, I assume this one should be fine during the walking path upgrades.
The rusty truck nearby is still there, seven years and not much of a change.

27-Dec-19
Numnuts is still in his nook. Mr CNQ had an unplanned trip to Townsville to replace a single component with a manufacturing fault in the very large box of out door furniture we picked up on Sunday. Unplanned solo trip favours known areas and hill walks. Had actually walked close to this one around August on a souvenir hunt and a wiser person might have made more of a diversion than rather than struggle on various tracks and cross country in in late December..... Cache is in good nick but heading down hill via a graded track and survey pegs it may yet become a ''views' rather than a 'nook'. Thanks for the exercise DaBuddClan

28-Dec-18
Thank the stars for that. Done and dusted except for the return to replace the melted cache. Replaced 3 all up but left that one for another day as it was close to the road. Tftc’s

We left this one because we didn't think it was part of the trail. This was quite difficult to hike from the bottom, lots of prickles . At GZ quick find, left path tag. TFTC

The big move only 2 weeks away so teamed up with RobS72 to claim the last 2 caches in Townsville we couldn't find last time. Took us a little less than 2 hours and we had them in the bag. Can't believe we didn't find them last time. tftc sl tnln

01-Sep-15
Teamed up with Jackylegs44 to head back up Mount Louisa to grab a couple of caches that we missed on our previous visit. We tracked along the fire trail until we got close enough to the GZ. A little bush bashing was then required for the last 80 metres. At the GZ, Troy came up with the find quickly.

Log signed. Took and left nothing. The cache container and log were found to be in good condition.

Finding this cache has now given me a total find count of 1429 .

Thanks for the cache hide DaBuddClan. Smile

Today was the day that I finally set out to conquer the Mt Louisa caches that have been a blot on my map of Townsville for so long. I teamed up with new to caching but super keen cacher Frullet to add some smilies. It was a very pleasant way to spend the afternoon. This was cache #10 out of 20 for the day.

It took a little searching but we got there in the end.

Thanks DaBuddClan for the cache. Smile

To the two owners of the caches up on the Louisa range, the 5 peaks series and the Numnut, Panorama & Billy goat caches: an excellent set of caches, great views, great locations!! I found all and completed the lot in 3 and a half hours. I started early at 7 am, 20℃ already, by the time I had finished it was 30! Excellent time, THANKS!

This was the last cache for us to find on Mt Louisa (thank goodness). We took the 'lazy' option and parked as close to the cache as we could and headed straight(ish) up the hill. After clambering up some pretty loose ground we hit the track and headed towards the GZ. Once there the cache was found quickly.

Thank you for bringing us here one final time.

A POETS Day saw an earlier assault on Today's Cache. I'm sure over the next few weeks we will become intimately familiar with Mt Louisa but until then we will be picking the most likely looking tracks tog et us to GZ. We started on a track that headed in the general direction of this cache but soon enough it began to curve away from the needed heading. Fortunately geoD spotted a small foot track spearing off from the main track a few meters behind us and we were soon heading back in the right direction. It wasn't long before it began to become quite overgrown but it was still heading in the right direction and had begun to head upwards.

After some heavy breathing and profuse sweating we arrived at GZ having indeed chosen the right path. geoD made the a quick find whilst geoP was hung up on some wait-a-while before we continued upwards and back to the geoMobile along a track we were more familiar with.

I used to live in North Queensland in the late 90's and regularly return to visit my in laws. On a belated Christmas visit, I managed some early morning caching, before the worst of the heat. I am intimately familiar with this set of peaks which provided a semi regular mountain bike adventure with some equally crazy friends.

I was following the 5 peaks trail. After collecting your Panoramic Rock cache further up the hill, I decided it would be rude not to collect this one as well, even though it was down hill. And what a slippery, nasty, wahed out track down the hill, as well.

About 60 metres from the cache, I left the track (if you can call it that) and headed bush. I reacquainted myself with Mr Chonky Apple Tree. Been a while, and I am hoping it will be a while longer now. Certainly earned the T3 today. The well camo'd container was found after a short search. Rather than climb that rotten hill, I decided to track the hill contour east towards the next cache in the 5 peaks series. In hindsight, that might not have been a smart move.

Thanks for the cache, DaBuddClan.

Another day caching in Townsville, before we start our journey west.
Decided to do the 5 peaks series this morning and others in the area, before it got too hot.
Well hidden, nice big container.

#286 second of three for the day, and another nice, well built cache...

I left Panorama Rock in search of this cache, and was relieved that it wasn't too far away.
Noticed the nearby truck that didn't have a very good time navigating the fire trail, and took a photo of it...
Then moved on to GZ and the cache. Had it in hand after a short search and stopped to sign it. I think i dropped my pen there, so the next finder can have it. replaced the cache, and got ready to go down to Phantom Hill... By now my shirt was wet. I had to go and buy another shirt after i finished caching... Wink

Thanks for another cache DaBuddClan, and I will be back for Billy Goat's Bluff! TBs enjoyed their visit

With a few hours before my flight home I vowed I would finally do these three caches. It was clear today after all the rain so not that hot at 8am. Headed up the hill from Afton Way along what was once a trail. The rain has done some more erosion and the ground was pretty damp although not too muddy. A bit of a climb and then a deviation to GZ where I made a quick find. Signed the log and liberated the GC. Great views - now onwards and upwards!

Thanks.

Another cache I picked up and forgot to log... Must be weeks ago now.

I enlisted a muggle friend of mine to come along for the hike this time around. As it was during the day, the trip was much easier going than my attempt with Psilonette.

So much so, it only took 10-15 minutes to get near GZ. I was absolutely gobsmacked by the simple trek. Last time, the P&P team swore never to climb this hill again after our /ordeal/. But that time, we had cut our way straight to panorama rock... In the dark... Not following the path. This time I could see the route we had taken and I could only shake my head. We were such fools! Razz

But, I'm glad I did return. The views were magnificent, and although the climb was tough in some parts due to the overgrowth, we went around where it was possible.

When we reached the hide, my muggle friend was at a loss as to how to search for such things as a geocache. I had to do it solo, and he was content to sit and watch me bound about turning this and that over, telling me I'm crazy. When I made the find I noted that it was about 15 metres from GZ and very, very well camouflaged by various nature. Maybe it was a bad day for my GPS, but my geoinstinct was as strong as ever when I approached the spot where it was hidden. I walked straight to it and caught a glimpse, confirming my suspicion Smile

A great walk and a well hidden cache. Thanks for giving me a reason to climb this hill! And TFTC!

Phew! What a hike but wow what a view. The description of the fire trail was very accurate but well worth the climb/crawl/scramble. I was talking to someone who used to run the fire trail before there were houses up that way and she said the fire trail was pretty horrid way back then too lols. Thanks for the warning about thorns. Edit: Took winni the poo TB which was not logged in this cache, and didn't see felix the bear which was suposed to be in there.

Yes - the reason you did not see the Felix TB, Champs+2Monkeys, is because I picked him up several hours before Razz

I do like walky caches - so I decided to grab these 3 - the final one being my 3800th cache. Man the tracks around here are certainly ragged. I plodded my way slowly up the hill. And then the GPSr wantd me to make a surprising turn. Certainly earned my 3 terrain and then some. I finally came up with the beast though in good condition. I dropped off the Poo TB - and picked up the Felix TB. Some great views from here. I have posted up the co-ords that worked for me today. TFTC DaBuddClan Smile

Of course, the shortest way is always the quickest, right![?] Stumbled up through long grass, over uneven ground, with a few slips and faceplants along the way. It was worst in the final 30m to the cache or so. Took a bit of a hunt, puffing and panting, until I (very happily!) spotted the cache. The views were absolutely magnificent and I enjoyed the breeze while catching my breath and taking a few photos. A great spot - now on to the next one! Thanks DaBuddClan. Dropped a geocoin to continue its journey.

Well done Numnut Gave the legs a workout. The eroded track spoils the climb somewhat but I still liked it better than finding a nano on a chair.

Thansk for the cache.

Today we felt like tackling some caches which required a little more effort with the promise of some views. Parked at the recommended spot and proceeded up the eroded fire trail. It was a mild day and the going was pretty easy and before long we'd arrived at the first of the three caches on this hill. Soon had the cache located and the logging duties completed. Bit of a leafy view of the suburb below and also out towards the ocean. Made no swaps but dropped off the Endian 2007 coin.

Dabudd dad visited the gz to look for the backpack today. Unfortunately he could not locate the backpack. Should anyone else have it please leave a note. Boy the GZ has certainly changed as we placed the cache just after a fire- the backpack may still be there under the grass- so please keep a lookout.

Wow at last some traditional caches, we were wanting to get to these for some time now but when we had the time to go the weather was against us. Yey, today it was perfect. No chance these caches will ever get muggled. The views just got better. Thanks for the cache.

18-Apr-10
Should anyone be up at this cache before we get back. We left a little black back pack on the grass very close to GZ. Hopefully we will get back soon to retreive it but should anyone find it before we do, please send us a message.

Decided to do this series of three caches at Mt. Luisa instead of going up Castle Hill this afternoon. It's definitely a better workout Big Grin with the added bonus of some geocaches.
This one I couldn't find at first, so kept going to do the other two. Coming back I tried again and this time it only took me a couple of minutes, GPS lead me to a different area than before. TFTC

Decided on a midday walk around the Mount Louisa cache sites to help with the acclimatisation. Once up to the fire trail it was pretty plain sailing around the 3 cache trail. A great view from this spot. Will upload the photo from GZ soon.

Checked the logs mid morning and found that there were still no visits, so decided to make a dash up the mountain in the middle of the day, thinking that the regular Townsville FTF hunters wouldn't have a crack until it got a bit cooler. Parked as per DaBudd's suggestion and proceeded up the ridgeline. Had just arrived at GZ when another geocacher pipes up with a "have you found it yet", on his way up the hill! Logged a FTF for this one, having just pipped AmmoTech502 at the post!!

12-Jan-10
Having checked the logs mid morning and knowing my regular FTF competitor was at work I knocked off early and decided to tackle the three on the hill. Didn't know where to approach from so basically went straight up the hill. Getting close to GZ I spotted another cacher who seemed just as surprised to see me at this time. What idiot would do these caches in the middle of the day during summer I thought! Which is exactly what Oz Explorer would have thought. Found 2nd but good to meet another cacher on the hunt.
