I tried to find this cache at 5:48:00 p.m. on 13/02/2015.
I didn't have much luck which could have been for many reasons. I shall return at a later date.

It doesn't look a likely spot for muggles but we gave it a good 20 minutes look and couldn't find anything.
First DNF of 2015 - spent quite some time with GPS all over the place. We are sure we checked every possible hiding spot, but no luck.
Thankfully cache out of sight from above, or it could look suspcious, TFTC
I had heard of the Waipiata "Corrective Training School" when I was growing up - mainly in relation to "escapes". I hadn't heard of the the prior or current uses and I really had no idea exactly where Waipiata is, until today's expedition.
TFTC.

This one had me worrying for a bit! I thought it was going to be a DNF because my GPS was all over the place, then luclily I spotted a little glimps of red and bingo! TFTC and for showing me this interesting place. Never would have known this was here if not for geocaching. Had a quick chat with a nice local resident.
This complex of buildings seems so out of place in this remote location, but maybe that was the reason for its construction.
What an interesting collection of buildings, would love to have a decent look around them! Not many people about today, just saw the one local in her garden. Found the cache easily enough. TFTC
Easy find. GPS right on for about the first time today. No trees overhead for a change. Took my second fall for the day. Bit fragile.
tried to find this last easter, was was on our todo list on this roadie. mental note to one selves the apples don't taste very nice
Had quite a long stop outside the old sanatorium while Mr Daywalk mended a puncture for another group member. No sign of life, but we wondered what exactly went on there nowadays. Then onwards in the hot sun over Hamiltons Diggings Rd back to Daisybank- a route you'd need fairly good 4WD skills for even in summer.
Info from the community plan-
“The Orangapai Sanatorium” a private hospital operated by Dr Byres for the
treatment of tuberculosis patients opened in 1914 above the hills of Waipiata.
Orangapai means “restoration to health” but the sanatorium was commonly known
as the Waipiata Sanatorium. At the height of operations approximately 112 patients
were at the Sanatorium. In 1923 the Maniototo Hospital Board took over its
management, and in 1961 the site and facilities became a corrective and training
centre for the Justice Department until 1979. It is now privately owned and called En
Hakkore – “a place of refreshment”.
Here’s the story behind the name:

Haven’t been able to find any links on the web to the organisation which runs it, but here’s some reports from various groups which have hired the place:

After seeing the last few logs we didn't hold out much hope of finding this one and indeed we didn't. With six pairs of eyes looking it should've turned up, perhaps needs checking.....
amazing to see the buildings. but the cache was gonna drive us nuts if we lingered! Add us to the dnf list.cheers.
3rd DNF today, we spent over a hour looking for this cache as it was on the must do list.
i can remember this place from when i was at school and this place was a borstal
Scrambled around and soon had our hand on the cache. A lot of buildings up here although now starting to look a little uncared for. TFTC
Did this one in the dark. Coords seemed a little out, but Moneydork found it as we expanded the search area. Cheers Gav [6615]
Found on a day caching trip while on holiday in Cromwell. Caching is running the Kms on our vehicle at the moment.TFTC
Compass went a bit crazy on the first pass came back from the opposite direction later in the afternoon and could see the cache from the road. TFTC TNLN
Great views from here and further up at the cemetery. Quick find, thanks for the cache.
Found 21/2/10.Easy find.I had a particular interest in the previous Sanitarium as a close relative was a patient there in the 1940's.Fortunate enough to meet up with the present owner and had a tour of the buildings. There appears to have been an open ended budget judging by the size and quality of some of the buildings.TFTC
Went past here a while ago on the way to the cache at Hamilton's Cemetery. I remember there being a howling gale that day. Strong enough to make it difficult to open a car door and, once out of the car, it would literally take your breath away. But nothing like that today. Calm and mild.
We had been past here once before so navigation was not a problem.
+ a marble, - nothing.

FTF at 10.35 a.m. A straightforward find at a location which has certainly had a variety of uses over the years. TFTC
