Needs some TLC

12-Mar-16
Up this way with Cats&Dragons for the weekend with the main goal of tackling some of the T5 Kayak caches around the Auckland area and a little further North. We also had the side mission to give kiteboarding a go, but unfortunately that fell through last minute, but that only meant we got more caching in. The general plan was to cache around along the East coast from Mangawhai to Mahurangi on Saturday, and a big focus on the Auckland Kayak caches in the Auckland area.

A very early morning start, even by our normal standards (2am), meant we were had a bit of time to grab a few caches before we were meant to meet up for the boarding. But even with a few set backs including a few DNF's we still had a very enjoyable day. Thanks to all the CO's for the placements.

Took a bit of searching to find this one but it was such a neat place I wasn't to bothered with the extra time I spent here. The GPS was pointing us to another spot, and checked the area plus the nearby areas without any luck. Turned our focus on looking for hint items and we found the cache about 15m from where we were being pointed. Thanks for the hide.

12-Mar-16
Wow that was an early start, 2am left home, first cache at 4.50am.
Little did we know it but we could have had a sleep in as in the company of HKCB we were meant to be going Kite surfing today, but the place at Omaha double booked us then we had other plans for the rest of the weekend which meant a refund, a bugger but never mnd we did manage some great caches as I work my way torads my goal of collecting caches for the Challenge elective of the DGSc Challenge (stupid evil challenge, I now understand why no-one has ever done this elective previously).
But anyhow, after a long drive and not enough caffine we were ready for a couple of caches.

This was a quick stop on the way to our first objective of the weekend. Great travelling these back roads when they are clear of traffic and any traffic you do see from a long way off.
Our collective thanks must go out to all the cache owners who made this trip possible as we also managed to get quite a number of water based kayak caches along the way, but left enough for next time. We covered from the Managwai Heads to Mahurangi/Waiwera area in the south on the saturday, followed by a trip across Auckland on the sunday

this was the alternative view of the day after we determined that we weren't going to make to Island of adventure this time, maybe next, so it was a chance to grab a few others.
Thanks for the placement

Afternoon family outing visiting Ti Point Reptile Park & Matheson Bay for a swim. Kiwiscot & friend enjoyed seeing all the different reptiles on show. Grabbing a couple of geocaches on the way home. Kiwi has been to this location albeit 30 years previously. He remembers the cemetery being in need of repair at the time. Glad to see it has not gone to ruin. Followed the GPS initially which had us halfway down a hillside with no cache in sight. Eventually followed instructions in cache desription and soon we were on the right path. Found the large Kauri but no cache. Shortly after we came across another Kauri beside hint object and the cache was in hand. Cache container has seen better days. Waterlogged. Added temporary log in plastic bag but it is in need of some TLC. TFTC & adventure.

Just passing through to

07-Jan-16
Found it but the logbook is really wet. So needs maintenance. We put another piece of paper in. Thanks for the cache. Greetings from Germany Hamburg
Maybe a higher terrain level describes it a little bit better.

05-Nov-15
Very wet log book, very steep track and very poor gps signal. Would advise approaching from top down not bottom up Smile

29-Sep-15
Unfortunately the cache was not camouflaged at all but sat out in the open. Log soaked unusable. Didn't have anything on me to replace it with. Placed cache back where I thought it should be.

28-Sep-15
Nice little bush walk, we came on a muddy day.... Mud-butts for us

17-Jul-15
Couldn't find this 1 track was a mess, Reyes from the cemetery n couldn't find it so Reyes from the other side still couldn't find it, but all n all beautiful cemetery. Great 2 c it so well looked after. Smile

13-Jul-15
Wet logbook! Cool find, hard to get to with the kids.

13-Jul-15
Good steep track for the kids

27-Apr-15
New log, thanks Gorby!

25-Apr-15
Well that was hard case! I approached this probably the hardest way, didn't see the track on the way up until too late. Instead I clambered straight up a spot where it would likely be a rain trail or small stream, although not today, it was dry. It wasn't until I found and signed the cache (chucked in some more paper) did I realise another way down, an easier one off course! Didn't get to see the cemetery either, must be further up the track.

19-Apr-15
Very nice bush & place to explore.
The cache is drenched & unable to write in log book.

Logbook is tot wet; unusable

29-Jan-15
Great find but it's gotten all wet Sad

25-Jan-15
Fun bit of bushwhacking for the first geocache for me and my 10 yr daughter. Cute little cemetery. Might be able to reach it from the park adjacent too up some faint dirt paths, but trickier without relevant directions...

31-Dec-14
Out for a day of geocaching with Zenith08 while on holiday, on the last day of 2014. Log is badly waterlogged, can't be written on, new log needed. Sorry, none on us. TFTC.

02-Dec-14
Certainly a scramble on the hill. Not too bad when you get used to it.
Knew it was GZ as we approached by hint.
Could do with a bit higher terrain mark. TFTC.

02-Dec-14
This was a major adventure in two parts ! We had a look first from bottom on previous night but looked too steep ..Went into bush via cemetery road but was getting a bit dark by then .
Returned with fresh determination this morning ! Plus had read a lot of logs . Hint a bit confusing so re read description . This time we knew what to look for !!!!
I had trouble finding a track ...but Ric went ahead , confidently navigating ! This paid off and he gave a shout of success !
Lovely to see the well kept cemetery and the views ; but I believe this should be a higher terrain difficulty rating . One could easily slip down the hill ...

09-Nov-14
Also cache was water logged so you could not write on the paper.

09-Nov-14
Definitely needs an update on the terrain rating. Very steep, lots of bushes. was a but of a mission to find when the co-ordinates were well off.

08-Nov-14
This had been my least favourite cache of the day. We found it after a few attempts of going back go the beginning. At the cache our GPS said we were 30 METRES away!! Really tricky terrain- I'd rate a 4. My friend and I wore jandals- definitely a no no. There were a few steep slips and you really needed to be aware of all your surroundings.

08-Jul-14
My dad was scared because it was in a cemetery it was scary

29-Jun-14
Log wet so needs a little attention please.

29-Jun-14
Interesting climb to reach the cache. However, still ventured into the cemetery which was delightfully serene. Thanks.

27-May-14
Very damp inside note book wet cleaned seals on lid and left a new pen . Cool location , loved climbing down bank TFTC !!

05-Apr-14
Came up from the park, path not overly obvious in some places but managed to find the cache. Went up to the cemetery and the description is right - a pretty spot. TFTC. TNLN.

Found with some water inside and the log book sodden. Unfortunately didn't have enough time to go and find some sun to dry it out today. Log book almost full anyway so a replacement might be a good idea and something to make the container more waterproof?

22-Mar-14
Great find lovely place

We went looking for this but could only find a VERY steep path up to GZ! A local guy warned us not to go up the hill as there is a wasps nest and the wasps are attacking people. We are the area for two more days, could the C/O guide us to GZ? Please.

24-Feb-14
What a mission. Log book saturated .THFTC

23-Feb-14
Enjoyed the stroll through the cemetery and down the track. Container very obvious from the track so covered it a little more.....perhaps made it a little hard for the next hunter! Yes, all wet inside but the pen and log are still quite writable.

02-Feb-14
Nice morning fishing snappers in the bay Smile Beautiful cemetery, thanks for the discovery.

Superbe matinĂ©e de pĂȘche au snapper Smile

03-Jan-14
The track is not safe enough to use. It would be worth going up to top of hill (cemetery) from main road and going down from there. Next time Smile

31-Dec-13
731, This one was a challenge. For some reason GPS would not play the game. In the end was heading down and stumbled upon the cache. Yay! TFTC

28-Dec-13
Out for a bit of caching with the wee lad and poppa, after a bit of hunting around we found this. Log book quite wet. TFTC

22-Dec-13
We were a bit rushed and did not have a good look.No excuse. My Apple iPhone was all over the place.

23-Nov-13
Nice steep walk. Ty

14th find on our kiwi holiday. A great adventure for me and 3 kids and they were very happy to find the "treasure". No sign of the token. TFTC

23-Sep-13
Hello again from Scotland.
What a lovely peaceful cemetery. Donned gear and went bush walking over fallen trees and up and down slippery slopes, GPS all over the place due to the overhead cover but my botanical training (Google!) soon had the flora identified and the cache was soon in hand. Container was wet and the log sodden, dried off the best we could. Took rock, left chain. No sign of trackables. TFTC.

Cache and log very wet. Also picked up koala TB , other TB not in cache.

03-Aug-13
Staying at the motorcamp just down the road so this was a nice walk to enjoy and always a bonus to find a well kept cemetery with a lot of history. Found the trees and then the cache was soon in hand. Would not have got up here without caching, thanks for bringing us here. Cache is okay but all contents including the log are saturated. Didn't have a lot with us but dried out as best we could. The log was write able but don't think it will last much longer. TFTC

28-Apr-13
Spoky place during the night..! Hope someone will pick up little Sydney and bring him further north so he can see Cape Reinga! TFTC

Yes, just passin thru today. Little hunt for this one. Lovely peaceful resting spot. No Tb in here sorri.

17-Jun-12
Loved scrambling up the hill from the west looking for the cemetry.

Came across a beautiful big Kauri and gave it a hug before continuing up the hill. Came across the stile at the back of the beautiful bush surrounded cemetery. We then retraced our steps realising where the cache was.
A big favourite for Kiwi Sisso

This one had us looking in all the wrong places, until we read some older logs and found the hide!, wonderful place to be!

Next day heading South... some caches grabbed sadly some missed!

Grabbing a few caches in the area while passing through on our 'how ever long it takes' NZ tour.

Thanks for setting this up.

Nearly didn't get this one. Had the co-ords to the gate instead og the co-ords for the GZ!! Newbie.

Exciting little path! Jess found it.

31-Mar-12
Searched and searched but no luck. Are the cordinates correct?

09-Mar-12
I had looked for this a long time ago and thrashed around with no real idea of what, where or how. This time I went straight to it. Thanks.

19-Feb-12
An extremely pretty, and serene, cemetery. Also a lovely bush walk. Mrs Jackson took the path, Mr Jackson went direct. Ended up at different trees, ... and Mr Jackson came up with the goodies. Thank you for a wonderful spot for an excellent cache. Get's a favourite point from us. Retrieved a languishing trackable - this cache definitely deserves to be found more often.

On the way back from a weekend away, lovely spot

18-Sep-11
What a great little cemetery this is. A little bit of local history was also learnt.

Swapped TBs.

Cheers for the cache.

21-Aug-11
Parked as close as we thought we could to this one (serves us right for not reading the description...), but ended up taking a big detour along the rocks to "Lews Bay cache" instead, then back up the road into the cemetery, over the style and down the path.

GPS was a bit all over the place with the heavy tree cover, but we were lucky enough to be poking around the correct tree and soon had it in hand. Decided to force our way down the "quick route" back down to the beach, rather than going back up the hill to the main road. Fortunately the ground was dry, but we still had to shuffle down carefully on our hands, feet and even bums at times. Managed it alright, but definitely wouldn't recommend taking this route if the ground is wet, as it's mighty steep in places and it's a long way down if you lose your footing.

Thanks for bringing us to a lovely spot and TFTC!

30-Jun-11
Bit of a scramble but got there TFTC

27-Jun-11
After our second attempt 3 weeks later we followed the clues more closely, and SUCCESS we found it! Still no gps device so feeling pretty pleased with ourselves.

22-Apr-11
4022 Quickly discovered that a right hand turn to park up for this cache could've made us permanent residents. Decided to make a safer turn further up the road. Nice spot, enjoyed the walk to GZ. Thought the terrain rating a little light but found easily enough. TFTC

04-Mar-11
What a pretty place to rest eternally.

02-Mar-11
My GZ had me climbing down a very vertical indistinct track, to no avail. Then realised it didn't match the terrain rating at all. So back tracked up hill and followed a better track away from GZ until it turned back again, and just started looking for the clue. T4TC - M@

07-Feb-11
It took Indiana Jill, Kayaknkiwi and I a few attempts to find the right 'path' but I discovered a scenic path that got us to the GZ with the least number of trees and bushes in the way. Once there, KNK was able to put her hands on the cache. Loved walking through the old place of 'passing'. Sorry for the late posting, Glyn. Just catching up on un-logged caches from my personal log book.

07-Feb-11
What an adventure! First approached from sea level and then thought again. Came back today to approach rightly . . . but left cars at the bottom as it looked rough from recent rains. NOT! We needed the exercise. Up and through the locals, then beyond . . . started to the right and then Seattle's Best called us left. She got us in the area and then KnK made the find. I was the "botanist" along for the ride? Thanks for the cache, getting us off the beaten track, bringing us to a place we normally drive past . . . . wonder if we could freedom camp up there . . . . . .?

07-Feb-11
Well we thought we were just going to pass through but was not the case with this one. Had us stumped for awhile then huh whats this...is this it!?!..... Thanks for the exploration this gave us, the scratches we get to take home with us, the stickyness this gave us (it was HOT!!). But yes thanks for the adventure it was fun!!!

17-Jan-11
Sister Tracie insisted we get as close as possible in the car.... but then there was the nice walk in the bush to the cache site. Very pleasant. t4tc

08-Jan-11
Will be back with hints next time. Had a good look where GPS showed GZ to be, but don't remember seeing the trees in hint

23-Dec-10
What a rough road to the nice little Cemetery that has an immaculate concrete road.
The co-ordinates were 11m out for us but with the very explicit instructions it was a quick find.

What a lucky find, went with my gut and got it in about 3 minutes. Tricky! TFTC!

Up for a winter visit from nelson. We found this one after a long struggle and a fall down the bank. The coordinates are way off but fund it with the clue. Cache in good shape. TNLN

27-Jun-10
Parked at the gates of the cemetary and made our way through the well kept grounds. Crossed the style and headed down the track towards GZ. Once the GPS settled down we searched the surrounding area but found nothing. After widening our search we eventually found the well hidden cache safely tucked away. Great hide and a great place for a cache T4TC.

18-Apr-10
Struggled with this one, turned right to early on a faint path which led us to indicated GZ or 3m from it, but nothing matched. Eventually clues led us to the real GZ, some 18m from where the GPS was pointing.

17-Apr-10
Decided to follow the GPS which lead us to the beach side. Saw what looked like a path and decided to climb up. Proved to be a "run off" path but given it was dry we could still get up OK (would not recommend after a bit of rain). Arrived at what I thought was the cache area. Had a quick look but nothing looked obvious. Walked towards another tree but it just did not feel right. Headed back to the first tree and "clunk" heard something that sounded like a cache. Even after discovering the cache I could still not see it (even though I knew it was there). Cammo really worked well in the shade of the trees. Climbing down back to the beach proved to be a slow crawl down the hill (very slippery - even in the dry). TFTC

15-Apr-10
1.55pm. Bit of a walk from the main road. Could have driven in but didn't know. It is a well kept cemetery. Easy find once I got down to GZ. Another fine camo job.
Thank you. David.

We passed through the pretty cemetery, went along the path that leads to the sea, walked down the ridge, and turned right. . . too soon. We could see the big kauri, so headed along the slope and down, where the hint items could clearly be seen. Found the cache soon after, and once again an empty logsheet.
