Hey Iguana ... Have you visited your cache when the Hawea river is running at 155 cumecs ?
It was today .... and talk about the Hillary Step ! Even Sir Ed would'nt have attempted it.
You may think it is a bit of a challenge however, I agree with previous logs to mine.
This cache is bloody dangerous and should be removed before someone is drowned.
And take children there .... don't even think about it !!!

Thanks for the advice, but the point is being missed. I have done quite a few 5 star terrain ratings and they are difficult and enjoyable- I accept that such is part of caching and brings a dimension to the game. I don't want all drive-by caches either. My point is that this cache is dangerous, not just difficult. This may a source of amusement to the owner and other gung-ho cachers - however, the fact remains that serious injury could result. At least cachers are aware of that now with these logs. Good luck to those that wish to get it and no, I won't be one.

Really wanted to get this one - as very excited about finding it - but time was limited in the area and both times we went and had a look the river was running really high so no way to get around to the GZ without wading thru freezing cold water and none of us that keen - never mind we will be back so not posting as a DNF Big Grin.
Have to agree with cache owner [^]- there needs to be all levels of difficulity and you have to make the call as to whether you want to get it or not - it might be that it's going to take a lot of time or it might be that it is a little physically hard - we dont want all caches to be easy drive bys Sad

I'm sorry but that cache is ridiculous and has put me in a bad mood. The only question I have is WHY? - there are so many good spots around there that putting a cache in such a dangerous position is madness. Do you take any responsibility for somebody if they get hurt? My advice - archive it.

Regarding the note below from Nimrod. This cache is clearly marked as needing care and as not suitable for children.
If approached the right way it is not overly difficult and others have found it before without creating such a fuss.
Perhaps Nimrod should look only for caches within his limitations. And no I do not take responsibility for other cachers and their actions;
people have a duty of care to themselves whether they are climbing Mt Cook or looking for a cache to make their own responsible decisions.
Please don't turn Geocaching into yet another nanny state, litigious sport. It is meant to be fun. Iguana.

OK - I accept that caching appeals to people of different levels. I maintain that this cache is irresponsible - time and cachers logs will determine whether I am making a "fuss" or not.

This was certainly an extreme cache. Never again! At one stage had to decide whether it was worth the risk for a smilie. Not sure that it was for this oldie cacher. Would certainly advise others who attempt this one not to do it alone as a slip would not be good news in this remote and difficult spot be very careful. Thanks ????

We had a kayak race down the Hawea River today and thought about stopping off to do the cache on the way. Sense prevailed and we went back for a look from the shore after the race.
The comments on the cache description should be taken very seriously. A fall in the final approach to the cache could give serious injuries as well as a wetting and the unstable ground makes a fall quite likely. If the river was high, as it was during our race, when they were releasing a flow of 50cumecs form the Hawea Dam, you could well get swept away. We'd rate the terrain 5 star. Great to have a few caches around that are a real challenge.

FTF at 9:14 PM.
TFTC nice still and warm evening to go caching. Enjoyed the walk down to GZ. And the final location. Although the caches hiding spot may be a little dodgy. A false move and your in the drink. ;P
