Today went for a walk even with the threat of thunderstorms, which didn't eventuate. So walked along to this cache with a friend, then went dancing. Tftc

Day 20: To Howick and through the Rotary WalkTodays journey took us to the East of Auckland where we spent a little bit of time exploring Howick before I embarked on a long walk from Pigeon Mountain to Panmure via the Rotary Walkway. It was a beautiful walk along the Tamaki River which I really enjoyed. Thanks for all the caches in the area, these will be some of my last caches on this trip to NZ!(End of the cut and paste bit)This is the specific log for this cache: Another cool example of the underlying geology of Auckland and yet another reminder that this peace in the region is only temporary. Nice display and interpretation of the layers here, and thanks for setting this EC up. TFTEC! Photo attached and answers should be sent soon.

Had a great walk along the walkway completing the AdLab, and stopped to complete this earthcache.
Answers sent, but will take another picture next time as the one I took didn't come out that good.

On a day trip up from the Waikato with ABCDF4 and eyespyben walking around this waterfront grabbing caches as we went. Had to stop here for a waypoint for an Ad Lab so gathered the necessary for this earthcache. And as always I learnt some facts. Answers sent on behalf of all 3 of us. Thank you for setting this up.

M24: a dot day today, due to the recent flooding and all that other weather stuff, I picked this cache as it was close to home, and I went past this back in July last year, as we didn't really do Earthcaches, but they are caches nonetheless. So why not do this while the weather was good enough to get a cache for the day? TFTC.

Nice test. Sent u a message

A lovely day doing the ad lab and earth cache too. Answers sent. Thanks

26-Jul-22
A nice day for a wander and this Earth Cache was on the way. Thanks.

I'm in Auckland to house sit while my mother is overseas visting family. Today started out a blue sky day. I should have got out a bit earlier as it was wet and windy later in the day.

Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

31-May-22
Picked this one up on a days caching - mostly picking up particular caches for challenges - in Auckland. A current challenge that I have set myself is to complete 100 earthcaches before Christmas 2022 so picking up this cache helps a little along the way. An interesting earthcache - answers sent to the CO - TFTC

04-May-22
Walking along the Rotary walkway with supernannny, and I really like Earthcaches, so we stopped here for this one. Reasonably straightforward finding the answers, but I forgot that I'd left my bag in the car, oh no... so I had to improvise by writing my caching name on my hand rather than using my ever present random pieces of paper. I've sent my answers to the CO and I hope they're okay.

Always nice to stop for an Earthcache and learn something along the way Smile Thank you for setting it up!

Extremely muddy

08-Jul-21
Work Commitments for the day over, it was time to get some fresh air and find a cache or two. I enjoyed a brisk stroll along the Rotary Walkway. This was my turning point to head back to the car. Thanks for an informative Earth Cache. TFTC

Found on 16th March - what an interesting place to visit on my 2 day stay nearby. Perfect place for this and great to take a bit more notice of surrounds. So interesting. Thank you

04-Jan-21
I've wanted to take the assistant for a ride along the rotary walkway for ages and with the weather looking good, today was the day.

We attempted to find some traditionals, but our run of DNFs continues, so why not learn something by doing the earthcaches whilst we were out and about.

Sadly, the assistant is a little young to understand rhyolitic ash, but we had a lovely ride by the Tamaki.

24-Oct-20
The main target for coming down here onto this walkway and a good example of the Earth science lesson, as well as a descriptive info board. Answers have been sent to the CO and will post pics soon. T F T E C Kiwileon

A day trip out East Coast way was the plan for today, and a nice day for it too. We started the day with an Adventure Lab series out Howick way, headed to Musick Point for a visit to the foreshore and surrounds and back via the Rotary walkway around Farm Cove out Pakuranga way. The weather was glorious and we managed over 10kms of small and medium walks, but mostly flat and well formed.

Having a really nice day out caching today, nice to be free from the corona-virus lockdown. Have been meaning to do this cache for a long time but always been too lazy to walk to it. So today I decided to e-scooter to it instead!

Info wasn't too hard to obtain, and it was a very pleasant day for it. Fascinating to see the different layers of the earth around GZ, thanks for bringing me here for this.

I nearly forgot to log this earthcach. I was in the area a few weeks ago visiting my stepmum and afterwards walked along the path on a beautiful day to get to gz and find the answers which have been sent to the CO.

Out to do this one for earthcache day. Called in on our way home from Cambridge. Interesting place and nice cache. There has been a recent landslide here but one part of the cliff is still visible so all good here. Nice earthcache thanks KiwiLeon.

10-Oct-19
I'm down from the Bay of Islands for a week geocaching with my friend. Today's plan was to do a round trip of the suburbs out this way collecting the odd puzzle and some trads to add to my XaXe's Auckland suburb challenge. My friend wanted an earthcache for one of her challenges. Since school was out we drove right up to the walkway and had a very short walk to gz. We collected the required info which was easily found. Thanks for this cache Smile

Yay, an earthcache! Liked this one - especially trying to get the geokids to estimate % of peat! Out for a family bike ride on a beautiful day. Dont often come out this way but was well worth it today. TFTC.

**This was 1 of 19 caches that was found by me on the 18th of 19 days in New Zealand.**
**Which also was the 71st of 75 days that my travels thru southeast Asia and Oceania would last.**

If I remember correct, I do write this log on August 4th 2019, 7,5 months after my visit, I did have a little trouble reaching the location. Or rather I had some trouble finding an place to park the car as close as possible. I think that in the end I did park up at the college and then walk down to the shore.

Peat to I use on my allotment to grow American Blueberries in. Or I used it as first. Now I'm trying bark soil since it's a lot cheaper and also much more renewable than peat.

The answers did I send via Message center on December 17th.

*During 19 days I traveled from Christchurch to Auckland in an SUV, that i also slept in during most of the nights. 5.956 km of driving did it take to visit the 351 caches that I have marked as found in c:geo.*

*Earthcaches was my main focus during the stay. And I manage to visit 106 of them. So New Zealand is right now the only country where earthcaches are my most found cache type Cool.*

19-Nov-18
Walk here at least once a week so might as well do the cache

We wanted to get the souvenir today so we went to the closest earthcache we could find. Surprisingly we didn't get this one before even though we live quite close. Love this little walkway but haven't been here in a while. Thanks for giving us a reason to come. Spent a good time debating the third question but I think we got it. Hayleyfcy has sent or answers. Thanks!

After attempting your other earth cache near by, and after finding another regular cache in between, we turned our attention onto this particular earth cache. After arriving at GZ we had the distraction of the real canine Sherlock the Puppy spotting something in the water and he decided that catching what ever it was the number one important thing in the world. Thank goodness he was on a leash and that there was a seat near by. Some muggle passers by were quite amused by this... Anyway, when he settled we attempted your questions associated with this earth cache and I have sent you an email with my answers. So thanks once again KiwiLeon for setting these up. Very cool. Both of these are going to get favourite points from me..... TFTEC Smile

In Auckland for a visit, and found myself in Pakuranga with some time to spare. I was delighted to see that close by was my very first ever Earthcache, so just had to do it. So thanks for the Cache, and for helping to

24-Nov-16
I was out for a run around the Rotary Walkway on a beautiful morning and stopped to do this earth cache. A nice little lesson about how the peat is made up and where the ash came from. I already knew peat was used for fuel and making whisky but the rest was all new info to me. TFTC. #197

14-Nov-16
Out for a nice morning walk along a strech of pathway we had not been along before. It is an excellant path way with good views from this point which we enjoyed a lot. Logged with permission of the cache owner. TFTC, interesting place to remind of our volcanic past in the area.

22-Sep-16
Had no problems with answering the first and last questions but had to check with a local that I had the volcanoes correct as I don't live in Auckland.

I had no camera or phone with me so had to take a picture of my trusty walking stick with GZ in the background.

I was out with my speedy Nordic Walking Group ....doing the well utilised Rotary Cycleway and Pigeon Mountain.
Lovely to see all the families out on their bikes on a sunny Spring morning !

Have never ventured around this area before. We were delighted to see a great path allowing scooters to be utilised to their full potential. Kiwiscot and muggle friend were off in a shot. Kiwi & Scottie wandered along behind. Interesting spot. Nice views over the river. TFTEarthcache

29-Jul-16
I actually completed this one a couple of months ago but only found the info again now.
I remember the day, it was a great day in Auckland collecting Earthcaches and traditionals while waiting to pick my Mum up from the airport.
A really lovely walk along the water front here, I didn't notice there was a traditional cache so close by, bummer.
Thanks KiwiLeon, a great example of a no nonsense, informative Earthcache.
Cheers

Have walked past here many times The description of the area adds interest for the many visitors to the Rotary walkway a popular walk or ride. Photographed is the younger part of our team.

'Twas a lovely sunny winter's day in Auckland, so Mrs Team B chucked her bike in the back of her car, and headed off to the Pakuranga Walkway for a leisurely ride. Headed off into a bitterly cold wind, but soon warmed up. GPS bought me to this interesting spot, which looked magnificent in the sunshine, with it's different layers. Took several photos, including a couple of selfies, which won't be posted as Mrs Team B is squinting into the sun, and just looks plain terrible. Thanks for bringing Team Benny here!

06-Jun-16
Had fun collecting the caches around the rotary walk today. We'Ve walked and biked past this spot dozens of times without knowing the history. Thanks for setting this earth cache.

08-May-16
Out for a family bike ride in order to pick up some caches on the Rotary Walkway. It was a nice day and we had started as close to GZ as we could as we were also going to pick up a few other caches along the way. We only had an hour or so up our sleeves as I had to go to work that evening.

Off we went and we soon reached GZ. We gathered the required information to be sent to the CO and took the obligatory photo. The photo can be found under chrisandmum's log and I have sent in the information for both us.

TFTC.

Decided to go for a bike ride along the walkway this afternoon to collect a few caches. Quickly worked out the answers and jotted them down. Having trouble with my emails and caching log in at the moment (can't remember my password!!) , bur will message through answers asap. Meanwhile, photo as proof we were there.

06-May-16
Needed a bit of exercise so decided it was as good a time as any to go for a walk along the trail near my grandparent's house and find a few more caches. I've waled past this area many times but this is probably the first since I have been geocaching. Or at least since I have been geocaching seriously. Answers were obtained, no one walking by so didn't wonder why I was so intently reading the sign. I've never really thought too much about the rock in this area so it;s nice to learn something about it. Thanks for the cache! Answers emailed to CO and picture attached

14-Apr-16
Right on time for sunset I went along this beautiful walkway to visit the two EarthCaches along the way. Unfortunately the sign on this one ks barely readable anymore, but the questions could still be answered. And log permission came super quickly. Thank you for that and thank you for setting up these nice caches.

06-Apr-16
A great walkway and cycleway. I love coming here and an Earth cache is a nice bonus. Interesting cache but with many muggles engaged in strenuous activity to avoid.

07-Jan-16
#1635. I need to find quite a few earthcaches to complete yet another challenge. So was targeting a few while up visiting relatives in the Auckland area. This one was on a pleasant walkway around the Tamaki Inlet. Found the display board and looked at the exposed rocks. Some interesting information here. I had never really considered where the underlying rock layers came from on the Auckland Isthmus. It was a bit of a surprise to see they came from so far away. I sent the answers to the questions to the CO. Thanks for setting up this earthcache.

11-Oct-15
Mr Stik-a-crane did the research to find an earth cache for earth cache day, and came up with this one as the most viable option and asked who would want to join him. It turns out there were a number of us that were keen so we made the already busy path even more busy with our numbers. A short stroll to the sign and answers collected, photos taken and loads of fun by the kids playing in the ash - it felt surprisingly fine, not coarse as expected. We wandered a bit further along the path to collect another cache before all heading our separate ways again. Found with purply and darthcacher1 (our junior cachers), and a number of others. Photo uploaded and answers e-mailed through to the CO. Logging in the hope we go the answers correct. Thanks for the effort that has gone into this cache.

Found with my Mum, NewlynFam. Have now created my own account so am logging all finds I was present at and helped with.
We came to this one on International Earthcache day. I'm one of the kids in Mum's photos.... my cousin came too. The grown ups asked us for our opinion about the answers and we gave them. We thought the chalky texture of the rock face was cool, but the grown ups kept telling us to leave it alone.
Mum sent the answers.

Found as part of a big group today for earthcache day. I enjoyed playing with the ash, it felt soft. HeMaLuDy has sent through the answers for me and there is a photo of me uploaded. TFTC.

A group of us decided to convene for an earth cache today, on international earth cache day. After waiting for a rather fragile Mr SAC (pays to train for fun runs apparently!!) we wandered down the path towards GZ. The signage and relevant geological feature were soon found and the kids promptly decided to paly with the ash, hope there is some left for the next earth cacher to find!!

Had a quick photo session with everyone and then on to the next cache, Thanks KiwiLeon for the EC fun! Have sent answers and am logging in anticipation that everything was correct Big Grin photos attached.

11-Oct-15
Headed out with a group of caching buddies today to find a cache for International Earth Cache day today. This was the one we picked as it was one of the nearest to several of us. Turned out there were a fair few of us, so lots of fun and laughter was had. NZTravellers is emailing some answers- I will do the same, so logging in anticipation of correct answers!!! Photo attached of NewlynFam at GZ.
TFTC KiwiLeon!!! Smile

Out and about with a group of friends for Earthcache day. I've never been here before, despite being to Pakuranga quite a few times. Was a lovely walk. Thank you KiwiLeon for this.

11-Oct-15
Was also part of todays group finding this great cache so that we could earn the EarthCache souvenir. Was great to learn more about our cities geologic make-up.

11-Oct-15
The order of the day was to find an Earth cache and this one was on the hit list for a group of us... Young EIR-0T and a representative from Childsfanclub also came along for the adventure, logs to follow...
Avery busy little walk, cycle way here as we had to move to one side of the bridge multiple times to let people past.....
Intel gathered, photo's taken, and the lesson concludes, onto the next cache in the area.

Smile Found while out for a Sunday morning walk with Mrs McMike2012 on a beautiful Spring day ... we have never been down here before, so knowing there were a couple of caches nearby, we decided to try our luck ... bad news for the traditional ones ... didn't even attempt any of them as there were just way too many 'muggles' around ... we'll have to bring our bikes out at some later date, just as well the Earthcaches were easy enough to do ... this being the second of two for the day. Answers have been emailed & we are logging in anticipation of receiving the all clear. TN except photos:LN, not even footprints:SL, not even ... TFTC ... #1,035 for us.

12-Sep-15
Attempting to complete the 7+ challenge today and this was the nearest earthcache to had that we hadn't yet done. A sunny but windy walk to GZ! Soon had the required answers and have emailed them to the CO. TFTC Smile

27-Aug-15
This is my first Earth Cache, & through looking for it I found a beautiful walkway along the coastline, which I will be sure to visit again. I also met an older gentleman who stopped to talk to me about how fascinating the natural history of the area is, as he saw me reading the info sign. I explained briefly to him about geocaching & earth caches, & he headed home from his walk to look it up. He may be a new geocaching convert! Smile

16-Aug-15

Decided to head out this way with the kids scooters so we could collect this earth cache as part of the 2015 Road Trip.

Soon got to the right area and read the sign to learn about the area. The kids were fascinated. It was a great little walk and we will be back to explore some more.

Thanks for the earthcache.
