I'm unsure what access is like at the moment. With access no longer possible from Doctors Flat Rd (private property), I looked at doing this via Tinkers Creek Fire Trail from the Traveling Stock Reserve off Mountain Creek Rd. However newish signage on the gate to the TSR suggests that's no longer an option.Grateful if the CO could clarify appropriate access - thanks!
We took advantage of the cooler weather this morning and decided to give this one a go. I found the trail on AllTrails and walked up from mount creek road. Very overgrown for about 1km into Tinkers creek trail and then it was all up hill on a pretty good fire trail although a lot of trees are over the track. Outstanding views and well worth the climb favourite cache in a longtime with no one around. TFTC it is fantastic.

A perfect day to test the capabilities of my e-bike. I had been keen to get this cache, and (Capital Glimpses), expecting that I would to spend most of the day walking here and back. However, now that I have an e-bike, I thought it would be worth riding here instead. Starting from the travelling stock reserve on Mountain Creek Road, it took me just over 30 minutes to herel, and then after a break admiring the views, another approx 25 minutes to Capital Glimpses. Then just 45 minutes back to the car. This cache easily found. TFTC.

Found with geo-hack @1145. Absolutely fabulous views of Canberra from a completely different angle. I don’t know why I’d never heard of this place before. TFTC.
Our trio parked near the Wildlife Reserve/Travelling Stock Route from Mountain Creek Road, then across the grass and up the trail. The route up was like Wee Jasper country. We were surprised to see the tower on top and views over Canberra from an angle we'd never seen before. Nice! Belco Town Centre, Black Mtn and Mt Stromlo could be seen easily, too bad we didn't have sunny skies to light up the landscape. Multiple trips were made up the tower to get photos from the vantage point, before we headed back.
Thanks for the chance to visit a new spot
We drove to check the access to Doctors Flat Road, finding it closed at Mountain Creek Road. The cache description needs to be fixed as that access is no longer an option...

**This Cache**
The views up here are spectacular with Black Mountain in the distance looking much lower and small indeed. There were cyclists - one a local, one an ex-hang glider in the 80s, up here already. They had come via Two Sticks Road and adjoining fire trails and across a swamp. It had taken them 1.5 hour to reach the top. We all chatted a while before they rode off. We briefly sat down for lunch. It became bitterly cold as each minute passed so we headed back after quickly marvelling the views and taking the obligatory photos.
It took us a little less than an hour to reach the summit after walking 3.06km with 366m ascent / 24m descent. The walk was relatively easy as bush bashing was not required. However, it was a steep ascent so we took our time walking to the top. Our return to the bottom was very quick and easy so we explored the gorgeous start trail which is picturesque and was protected from the cool breeze. The return trip to the car was 6.14kms with ascent/descent 397m over 2.45 hours. The time included exploring, chatting, photos and lunch so the return trip can easily be completed within 2 hours.
Although this cache can currently only be completed on foot or bike the 'T' rating is not too much greater as the access up is clear although steep. Another great day in paradise. TFTC rbirtles.
**Getting to the Cache**
To reach this cache we walked on a well marked, open track all the way to the top of Pig Hill. The trail only features on the satellite map and we call it the Travelling Stock Trail after the sign that is displayed just behind the locked gate (see photo).
The trail starts off Mountain Creek Road, about 140m north of the 'Ghost Rider' cache and about 350m south of Tinkers Creek. From here it’s a lovely open stroll straight in, walking perpendicular to the road until you reach a gate, then turn a hard left and up approx. 50m to another gate and start of the main trail up (gate at S35 12.179 E148 53.542). Towards the top you take the left trail before joining up with Tinkers Creek Fire Trail for a short walk then onto Pig Hill Summit Trail to the top. Maybe all this is obvious for most cachers but I would like to remember in my old age. We plan to be back as I’m sure there are plenty more caches to be placed along this trail.

Wow, what a walk and what a view. Walked up the ridge on the Tinkers creek firetrail (since vehicular access seems to be blocked these days). Very steep (Its about 320m vertical difference) and never seems to let up, but eventually I got to the main track and then a short walk up onto the top of the hill. Great weather (although the hill climb would be better in winter) and fantastic views in the clear air. Cache found quickly and, of course, in good condition. I've been eyeing off this hill for 30+ years. Good to finally get to the top.
Thanks,
Thanks,
A days outing in the Brindabella National Park with JohnnyBoyACT. We started from the Mountain Creek Road and followed Tinkers Creek stock route into the park. It was worth the slog up the hill for the views. A bit cool so a quick morning tea at the trig. TFTC.
A trip organised by Marmaduke Rothschild. Long time since I've been in this area. We came in via the TSR off Mountain Creek Rd. Nice panoramic view. TFTC.

There is no vehicular access to these caches any more. Locked gates on both ends of Doctor's Flat Road. I decided to try to walk in from Firebreak Trail off two sticks road as the part of the track which crosses private property is quite close to the park boundary. I didn't encounter anyone except a slightly threatening group of pigs in the Swamp Creek valley.
The views from here (especially atop the tower) are second to none. Such a shame it is so hard to get to now. The cache was in good condition, although none of the pens worked. No finds for three years!
All up the walk to this cache from the locked gate up to Pig Hill and return was about 17.5km. Quite an effort I must say. You might need to think about upping the terrain rating.
There is a slightly shorter access route off Two Sticks Road, still through private property, but you'd need to park your car on said private property.
Thanks rbirtles

The gate at Mountain Creek Road to Doctors Flat Road has been locked. The locals have taken upon themselves to restrict access to this public road. Unless you have a key (good luck with that, the locals locked it for a reason), you will not be able to gain access (by car). It's either a long bike ride, or an even longer hike. Unsure of access from the other end at Wee Jasper Road.
Nothing like getting lost and discovering a cache when you weren't even meant to be there. TFTC
Amazing views!! Geokid (and I) had fun climbing the tower to check it out. TFTC!!
Having been in the Brindabellas all weekend Dad made a short detour here where we quickly found the cache and took in the great views.
Thanks

We'd spent the weekend in the Brindabellas and were exiting the area via this route when we spied this cache. A quick detour out to the trig and we were greeted with some amazing views.
We used the mini tower to get a good vantage point for some photos and then did the obligatory ccahe requirements.
Thanks

After driving from wee jasper decided to veer off on Doctors Flat rd and pick up some challenging caches.
This one was certainly challenging, not for me but my subaru outback:-) I decided to drive up but
this rd is rough as guts, you are literally driving on rocks. It got too rough about 500m from the cache so I jumped out of car and made my way to cache. The views here are stunning, and I soaked it up after finding cache. Headed back to car which was just parked on a steep section of the rd, upon which I couldn't go further up or turn around so I just reversed it to a flat section, did a U turn and drove it back down to doctors Flat. Cheers a very challenging cache, 5 stars difficulty for the car:-)

Came back and logged it after launching from here earlier in the day. What a site!
This has been a place that I have wanted to get to for several years.
I never realised how to until reading the details of the cache. In the end it was a pretty easy place to get to.
I drove up most of the way but the road started to get pretty rough 500 meters from the top so I walked the rest of the way. Any one in a real 4WD would think it was easy. Anyway my name is 2 leg drive so I should've lived up to my name.
View at the top were excellent, very pleased that I made it up here.
I did the climb up the little rusty tower to make it even better.
It would be great to come up here when there are some gliders about, would be fun to see them taking off and landing. Wild!!!!
I will be back again with a few more passengers.
A favorite point for me.

Didn't even realise this place was here. Gorgeous drive up and so close to canberra. TFTc.
Ahh, snow. Since our test tube government decided to close the road to Picadilly Circus this morning, we took the little known road to Pig Hill for our frolic in the snow. Figured we'd check in on the cache while we were here. All dry and OK inside, remnants of snow outside. TNLN TAFTC
5th of 11 for the day with Sol de lune and Wing6Rider and without a doubt, the view of the day! What an absolute rip snorter and you can quote me on that. The fickle weather was nowhere to be seen, just glorious views. Favourite point from me.
Chauffered by Sol De Lune we found our way up. Great day, great weather, great views. An all round excellent spot and worth the effort. We of course found the GCA to as an extra bonus. Thanks rbirtles.
OK. There IS a nice dirt road up here, but we somehow thought bushbashing from Fairlight below would be a good idea. There are no trails, and the regrowth of young trees post bushfires makes this fairly impenetrable. Slippery loose dry dirt and leaves underfoot, and a steep 2 hour climb. Our Quigon made this trek with a fractured arm in full arm cast. What a trooper!!!!
When we finally got to the cache and popped out of the scrub we had a lovely time with the half dozen para sailers who were in various stages of leaping off and gliding down. What a view!!! TFTC

It was so quiet up there that I thought someone was going to jump outa the bush, kill me and wear my skin to their birthday party. Biggest and well stocked cache I've ever found.
After a busy day, got to this following twilgiht. Batteries failing on torches ... starlit/moonlit scramble was a challenge - but success!
Brilliant view from top!
Brilliant view from top!
After driving up a narrow gravel road through the bush we were delighted as we arrived at the site. What a great view! Geodad made his way up the little tower - but he didn't see more than we did. Beautiful views to Canberra - Black Mountain Tower and Woden "Skyscraper" on the horizon.
Thank you for this great cache. Special thanks from the Geokids to the cachers who left the great swaps!

What a fantastic spot on a beautiful Autumn day and more than worthy of a favourite rating. Wish we had had the foresight to bring our lunch up here and stay to enjoy the view for longer. However, although the approach seems to be 2WD approved, I'm not sure I would have been game enough to undertake it in the family runabout. I might still be up there otherwise. IMHO 4WD highly recommended! TFTC
372. Checked out the video from previous log and thought I must go there. Made the journey in the 2WD hilux with over inflated tyres (carrying loads for work) and after a shower of rain. This definately added a few stars to the difficulty rating, but well worth it. A favourite point for the journey and the views. Next time I return will be with somebody so I can share it. TFTC.

Been meaning to come out this way for a long time now. Brought the paraglider as I had decided to fly from up here down to the bottom to get the other cache. Geocaching by paraglider!! Too much fun.
Here's the video if your interested in having a look. http://youtu.be/3SsghE_MPic
A really great day and I caught a cracker of a thermal to top it off.
Next time I come back here I hope to be flying a hang glider too, as I am going to do the conversion course.
Thanks for making it and interesting day and a well stocked cache too.

Have been wanting to get this one for a while. Bit of a steep trail but still easy going. Dropped tracking flying pig & picked up colonel klink.
kitcatt +1: Our very first cache, great fun, nive place to visit. peaceful.
thanks for the fun rbirtles.
thanks for the fun rbirtles.
Also forgot to mention, what a well stocked cache. We had to hunt around to find enough swapsd worth of the torch my daughter wanted to take.
What a fantastic place. CAme up here on a trip out out to McIntyres hut for a camping 4wd weekend. Even though it was totally freezing here we hung around for a bit climbed the tower on took lots of pics.
I'm guessing there are a bunch of nutters that like to run down this hill with a big kite on their backs.
Thanks for bringing us here.

This was one of our destinations after a day of caching and the views from here were amazing. With the help of Tommy, mnjontours trusty 4WD we made it to the top easily. We found the cache container easily and I discovered a "VW Bug" TB. Took some photos and hopefully I can log the GA Trig point too. Thanks for bringing us to this amazing spot high above Canberra.
Great mobile reception from up here as I discovered as two new messages were delivered alerting to published caches back in Canberra. Why is it I am always up a hill somewhere else when this happens.
After accidentially logging this cache a few weeks ago we set out today to add it to our finds and what a find it was. Mrs MNJ appreciated the opportunity to hone her 4wd skills and when we got to the top of Pig Hill - Oh what a view! Left TB Colonel Klink to round up any wayward POWs roaming the hills and took Bronze Bug down the other side.
Such an awesome view of Canberra from here.
A really nice drive too, although the Rav still needed to be driven carefully up some parts - we've learnt the hard way that it doesn't have the same clearance of a *real* 4WD.
Allowed Percy the Pig TB to visit this aptly named cache and location.

OMG - bloody Fitzy and his '2WD-don't-worry-we'll-be-right' car barely made it up the hill - it was NOT a FUN drive !! My knuckles were white from hanging on - I would have been tempted to stay out of the car when I had to open and close the gate but we had spotted two snakes and a fox and I figured it was safer in the car (questionable) than on my own waiting who-knows how long for Fitzy to get the cache and come back - if at all!
I really am trying to convince him to buy a 4WD for occasions such as this.
I must admit though, once we were at the top, the views were absolutely awesome and well worth the pain and agony of the ride up!
I never would have come here if it hadn't been for this cache so a big Thank You for showing us such a gorgeous spot!
I took a couple of photos - the best one was of the clouds rolling in and the rain coming! Will post it here.

2962 - An afternoon drive through the countryside...
Now that was an adventure ! My 2WD made it up the hill - it was a FUN drive !! After the cache find it was even more fun heading down again. Our only two snakes for the day were both on the road so no great drama !!
Took TB - TFTC !!

Beautiful view on the day. Round trip out to the Brindies. 6 of 6 for the Brindabella Caching day with excited kids.
Was a bit rough ride with all the rocks coming up the hill but nothing a 4WD can't handle.
Wow so glad we did this one today. Had about 6 hang gliders starting their run as we arrived. Seemed the perfect day for it.
Fantastic views all around! TFTC

Went for a drive with AnnaS, Sean and Ko today, out to Wee Jasper along Doctor's Flat Road. Stopped here before checking out the Tinker Creek Fire trail (and subsequently turning around because, as signposted, it is indeed a dead end). No view from here today, infact we got rained on trying to retrieve the cache. TFTC.
Another find while out 4x4ing. Lucky others had grabbed the file as i hadnt been planning on doing any. Lovely views still and saw some hangliders hanging out in the middle of the skies. Starting to get a bit cool out there being up in the breeze.

2992. [font=Comic Sans Ms][green]Without a doubt the cache of the day for me. The drive up gives little hint of what is at the top and it is a panoramic view that would rate amongst the best uninterrupted views around. Found the cache then back for us all to climb the tower - well done Zsazsa7 particularly as the tower was shaking badly when you were on it. Luckily it wasn't for the rest of us.
It was a pleasure to share this experience with Mrs Winglen Sol de Lune and Zsazsa7. Although they were all a bit put off by the mini cheese kranskys that I had at our peaceful lunch stop.

Well, wasn't this a surprise as we arrived at the top and looked over all of Canberra. I'm not sure I would bring the 2WD up that track, but no problems for a 4WD.
The views was just fantastic.........and we all managed to climb the tower to get just that little bit higher. Aftrer locating the cache, it was back to the top and time to sit and enjoy lunch will simply checking out the areas below.
Another enjoyable cache, no. 3 for the day. Thanks rbirtles, a great location.

I wasn't aware of this cache and might have overlooked it if it weren't for Sol de Lune suggesting we make it part of our day. What magnificent views! Althought the topo lines on the GPS map indicated in advance that we would be high above surrounding countryside, we were amazed by the expansive views. Cache of the day for me I reckon. We ate some lunch up here, I phoned home, we all climbed the tower for photos then we moved on. Very nice thanks Rbritles
Fantastic location and vista. Can capture the whole of metro ACT from here and soaked it in.
Managed to climb the tower and keep lunch down!
Great stuff. Thanks Rbrtles.

Fifth for the day. Arrived just in time to see some gliders taking off. Have seen them in the air around here before, but a first for watching them take off.

As Pinksmurfette said, perfect timing for arriving at GZ with two gliders taking off - the first one did all the work as it took him a little bit of time to locate a good thermal and to be honest to my untrained eye he looker rather close to the trees. Not to worry he soon worked the thermal to his advantage and was heading upward until he was well and clearly up over our heads. Fantastic to watch.
heaps of swaps in this cache but we decided to leave them for the next visitor.

We (Holdenman & the Clarke Gang) arrived here just in time to see some gliders taking off which was awesome and
we sat and watched them for some time. Thanks for the cache - this is a great spot and was surprisingly busy with more gliders
arriving as we were leaving. Also caught a glimpse of a moving TB here - mine & Holdenmans first moving (car) travelbug!

A nice late afternoon find today with Albida and mr_roo. I have been up here many timed with the RFS and we also used to make plenty of use of the automated weather station up here. The views from here are always impressive so thanks for another excuse to come up here.

Having a mental health day off work and took a quick detour on my way for a day trip to WeeJ. Amazing views on a gorgeous clear day, On way home from WeeJ seen some hanggliders just above pig hill. Thanks for the views, the cache and the excuse for a drive to WeeJ. Left a TB and coin, took 2 TB.
Chooo ooo *FTF* - what a fantastic location! Arrived just after sunrise, wonderful views!
On arrival I promptly hired a hang glider, took off, turned around, and nearly landed on the nearby trig! Luckily I missed, and nearly landed on my car instead!
I happened to be in this area for other caches, so I decided to try for this first! The road up was a little lumpy, but still, it beat walking up! – OK – I exaggerated a little... I didn’t hire a hang glider... But I did nearly land on my car! (See unedited pic).

Now I can log this one as "found by the bus driver" - I was with Rbirtles and his geo-mob when he placed it on 20 Feb 10. Great views - too bad the sun was in the wrong spot for our photo. Thanks Rbirtles

Unlike TankEngine & others, there is NO WAY I was even going to attempt to get my low riding vehicle up there, so I walked the whole summit track, glad I did too.
I was then greeted with absolutely FANTASTIC panoramic views, top spot. I could see Bowning mountain NW of Yass and the Tinderry range near Michelago. Picked up one of the TB's. Thanks rbirtles for a simply magnificent spot.
