I remember this place. Man this hill has changed with lots of trees been removed. Cant find this cache. Spent heaps of time searching. Needs archiving. Cheers
Hehe no problem getting to this cache but somehow I now gave a humungous hole in my pants. How did that happen?
Located this one during a weekend visit to the area. ROS made the climb to GZ and immediately spotted the hole but kept going a little further. When GPS settled down he returned to check it out and soon had the cache in hand. Meanwhile MAR had made lunch which we enjoyed in this fabulous reserve before getting back in the road home TFTC
Found this yesterday. Just one group of people doing the Christmas thing. Cache was in condition so left a tb that needed a dry cache. Tftc
One week off during school holiday time, combined with some cheap flights made a great adventure in the HB and Gisborne area, popping into BoP a couple of times also. I had great fun and I am grateful to all CO's who placed the caches for others' entertainment!!
When I saw the name of this one, I had a giggle and had to come and find it! Luckily far enough from the main area as it was busy as today!! Made it too far up and located on the way down. TFTC!!

Short steep climb, awesome hiding spot and overall condition of box and contents was great!
We are spending a couple of nights in Gisborne, after making a spur of the moment decision to get the FTF on the new Virtual, and to collect the CANZ Gisborne cache. Having achieved those goals, we set about finding some more caches. We remember visiting this domain years ago when we first started caching. Considering it is the middle of a sunny Saturday, we were quite surprised to find the place deserted. We checked out where we needed to go, and made the scramble up. Our route must have been spot on, as we soon reached a place where John's hole was visible right in front of us, and there was the cache. Pleased to have found this one! Had some lunch in the domain before heading off.
Nice placement but my pen hated the paper for some reason. Managed to get part of my name down before it packed up. TFTC
found with a friend from Hamilton on the 5th of January but completely forgot to log online. Also had no pen on us and the pencil was blunt, i did though take a photo of us with the container that i will message to you tricky hide.
Was pretty slippery but we found it pretty quickly. Forgot a pen and the pencil was broken so took a photo itself.

Found it today together with Karen and her two boys Rowan and Finn (as well as three dogs).
It was quite fun scrambling up the hillside together.

Nice little scrabble up slope to retreive container.
Can see how this cache gained it's name.
Found with Barnard Star.

The name of this one set me off giggling, which had the rest of HOAC looking at me stragely for a few seconds. the leaves on this hill made everything very slippery, so those coming afterwards - do be careful!
Heading out for a day with caching mates (HKCB and RWIMF) for another epic early start to the day, did I say early start to the day (being 2am leaving Hamilton).
All in all it was a fantastic day which took us all to countryside that we had not really visited before clocking up 900 kms in 14 hours and 20 caches. Also meant that I was able to complete the final requirement for the DGSc Challenge that I had set myself as this was the final elective. Now all I have to do is work out when and how to make it to Reefton to collect the final. This single challenge has taken me 18mths to complete and required getting 2525 caches (and thats not including all the previous caches that I had to locate just to qualify to begin this particular challenge.
This was the twelvhth cache of what was to be an epic day. The mission of the day was to collect the remaining D=2.5 T=2.5 (minimium DT Rating Allowed) that I needed to collect for the above mentioned challenge. Together we signed the caches as "HOAC" to save log space.
Well with the first part of the morning completed, and a quick trip into town for the CANZ cache and more petrol we were back to it searching for a few more caches. Another nicely placed cache that HKCB came up with in short order
A nice quick find and another ticked off while trying hard not to disturb the locals
So for the start of a great day, thank you, and for the placement Thank you.

Headed down to Gisbourne with RWIMF and Cats&Dragons to grab the last few caches C&D needed for his DSGC Challenge that he's been working on for what seems like forever. With a very hard and fast set time we had to be home, this meant that with the amount of km's that we needed to cover a 2am start was needed.
All in all the day was a huge success and all the caches we attempted were found and we were back home in time too (just), also a bonus for me was that we were able to detour slightly to get the Gisbourne CANZ cache. A big thanks to all the CO's for the placements and congrats to C&D for finishing his challenge.
Thought this one could be trouble finding, but GPS zero'd quickly and after a short scratch around, spotted a likely spot and found the cache.

On a road trip with the family for a week around the east cape coast road. The rest of the crew are ambivalent about caching so the deal on family trips is very much quality caches, not quantity. Considered the many options around Gisborne, not having cached here before, and came up with a shortlist of two for today. This was one of them, not least for the cache name
The teens & the mutt had a lot of fun around the domain while I focused on finding GZ. Not easy on these slopes with an already injured knee but nothing gets in the way of caching fever! GPS took a while to settle so I relied on the hint to guide me to what looked like a likely spot. And it was! Log signed & replaced, Great spot that we wouldn't have found without caching - big thumbs up from us, TFTC

The pencil inside is broken, so I couldn't leave a note. Nice spot in here and nice walk to the waterfall.
Tomorrow we are leaving Gisborne for Napier so I had prepared a list of caches I wanted to look for. We decided to do a few central city caches first, while the parking opportunities were good, then go for a walk (fortunately a shady one) before the temperature got too hot. After a coffee break and lunch, we set out to look for some more caches.
This was a toughie as the eucalyptus leaves were treacherous underfoot and combined with the steep terrain, made moving around rather difficult. The GPsr was erratic as well and after being savaged by a prickly plant, I was pleased to hear StreetWalker say "found it". Phew. Now all we need to do is get down without mishap. TFTC - I think.

#12010. This reserve was well worth a visit. I felt like I needed an ice axe on crampons on the steep slope covered in eucalyptus debris, and was pleased when I spotted the hidey hole. TFTC.
Decided on a bit of a road trip to Gisborne area as we are targeting higher D rated caches for one of our challenges and this area seemed to qualify. Picked up the Squirrel at 6am with a list of about 26 caches. We didn't expect to have so many DNF's and with so many caches needing repairs, hopefully the owners might do some checking and repairing. Anyway after what turned into a very long day with rain, slippery tracks and wading through nearly waist deep water we arrived safely home the next morning at 3.15am.
12.15pm - Bit all over the place then bingo found. Good to get this one. SLTFTC

With Gap (of Fap and Gap)... Our target today was to find caches with difficulty ratings of 2.5 and greater. Gap spied a whole lot in the Gisborne region... Road trip. It rained on and off throughout the day, making conditions slippery underfoot and slow-going at times. Weather coupled with quite a few DNFs made this a bit of a disappointing mission. Nevertheless, we soldiered on, as we do...
I always wondered where Waihirere was... Their culture group has long ranked among the best in the country in the Maori world... The caches in this area were sure targets for us, including one to fill a spot in my D/T Matrix.
We definitely needed this hide, and it didn't come without presenting us with a phenomenal challenge. Again, the iPhone gps swung all over the place... It would narrow down, then suddenly swing back out. Conditions underfoot were extremely slippery, and great care had to be taken so as not to fall down. Another useless hint... With inconsistent gps readings and no points of reference, we climbed unnecessarily onto the ridge line. Gap decided to use his dedicated gps on this one, and the immediate find was remarkable. TFTC.

Very good....as soon as I saw that hole I thought, that's John's Hole...perfect spot for a cache
A quick visit to Gizzie, and enjoyed discovering the various locations that a bit of geocaching took me to. Brilliant weather. A quick find on a walk up to the falls.
A quick easy find for us, as markhnz climbed the hill and fetched it for us. TFTC
Last full days caching before moving to Taupo tomorrow
Nice easy find today, caching with nightowl19. Earned the terrain stars today

Our GPS is not entirely accurate ... But we found the hole ... Really quiet here today. TFTC
Tough climb on slippery leaves, but that hole looked so good I had to check it despite the GPS still counting down.

My GPS was playing up on me, and had me going on a nice stroll through the woods. After returning to the original location, found after a brief search. Beginning of a very nice walk to the falls. Tftc
This is definitely not 4.5 stars of terrain. It's an easy, very short climb up a moderately steep hill. I'd lower the difficulty rating on this one to 3 stars, maybe 3.5.
I went there and couldn't see it, so I went back and found it. The rain is steady now and am a little damp from doing the waterfall track. Kept the log and contents dry. Nice sized container thanks but I didn't leave anything today for fear of leaving the lid off too long for the rain. TFTC

Found the hole - GPS coordinates were bang on, but sadly the hole is empty. There was a lot of litter up there as well suggesting it may have been muggled.
Great hidey hole! Make sure you wear grippy footwear, those dry leaves are super slippery!
Found after a slip-sliding walk amongst the dry tree leaves. Introduced Wakaroa to caching - all good fun... TNLN TFTC
nice cache took a while to find it as there has been a bit of rain lately. well hidden
Great cache, found it with hopalongkiwi. It was wet after it was raining.

Cool little hiding spot and great place to introduce some friends to the geocaching world! TFTC!
Grabbed this one on the way back after a pleasant evening walk to the waterfall. TFTC
7561 A nice hide, have always enjoyed our visitis to the Waihirere Domain, TFTC jr taybee and mum.
After parking the car and a quick scout of the correct direction, the kids were straight up the hill. Nothing quite like young legs and the eagerness to be first in our group to locate the cache. By the time us "oldies" scrambled up, the kids had the cache in hand. Pirate Flag and Smiley Face in. TFTC. SiLiRy
This was our first geocaching attempt on our own We had fun walking up and down the hill a few times but no luck - we gave up when it started raining. We'll have to try again when back in Gisborne a beautiful park with many memories of preschool Christmas parties held there
Like others I took a non-direct route up and ended above the cache. Good hide. TFTC #2206
Not a sole to be seen in the carpark this morning so raced up the hill and didn't have any trouble finding it.
MAny thanks

I took a funny route to this cache and ended up quite a bit too far up the hill.
But once I followed the GPS back down, I quickly found the cache.
A nice little hidey hole.
Thanks.
