On a geocaching jaunt this fine Waitangi Day afternoon to pick up the caches along the Clutha Valley-Clutha River-Rongahere Roads route - never been to Beaumont via this way before - ended up missing a few due to complete mobile coverage dropout crippling the app, so will be back this way another day. Neat to finally see the famous punt. Wouldn't be particularly keen for a ride on it though personally. Amazing that it remains quite unchanged from the horse-and-carriage days! Lovely little picnic area above. Find took a bit longer than it probably should have due to lack of signal, but hint sorted me out. Tftc.
Day 4: The Road to Balclutha Todays agenda was to get down to Balclutha where we are staying on the way to the Catlins. The route on the beautiful day took us through the beautiful Central Otago and Teviot regions, where we took in the landscapes and found quite a few caches along the way. It was a long drive but we really enjoyed the little highlights along the way thanks to the ALs and caches placed by everyone. (End of the cut and paste bit)Heres the specific log for this cache: I had nerded out about the reaction ferry as we approached, and explained to my family what makes it so cool. After we marveled at the engineering, it was time to find the cache, which was duly done after a bit of bashing. TFTC and for showing us this!
A quick find with the hint as we stopped to wait for the ferry to arrive. This was the only cache for us today as we were on a midweek car rally with a group of muggles. TFTC
Wondered if we would find this one after seeing the DNF, we did find it but not really where it was meant to be, and no rock to be seen either. The log was just loose inside the container too. So we popped the log in a zip lock bag, and back in container, and I sent the kids off to find a decent rock to put over the cache to match the hint. Hopefully popped it all back how it was meant to be and ready for the next person coming past
TFTC, we will be back in the Summer to get the ones across the river

On a day trip with P&Vee and Hubbies, Our trip was to have included a trip on the Punt, but not to be as river Too Low! Around the long way to find this cache. Thanks P&Vee for the start to a great caching day. TFTC
On a mission with Mr & Mrs VDH56 to finish off these caches to Beaumont. Neither of us had full coverage so for the first time I am looking at the hints. Mrs VDH56 soon had it found while we looked at the punt across the river we intended to cross on but couldn't due to the river being too low.
A nice quick find once Ms_KR got on to the case. I was sure I had checked the updated hint (angle) thanks. The punt was not working today unfortuneatley. Another day....
Ms_KR and I are on a wee South Island break. Today we headed up the Clutha from Kaitangata, and on up to Alexandra. Not too many people drive the road up to Beaumont, and the road has been sealed since we last drove it 25 or so years ago. A nice day for it too, with only a few light showers.
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

One day we'll take the punt but I said that about the Clyde railway and never made it. Tftc
Need 50 today for a Geocaching Licence Challenge. Thanks for all CO's placing these, especially those with safe parking. This is number 35.
Heading southeast from Roxburgh in my cachemobile locating caches that I wouldn't be able to stop at with my snail shell on behind.
The punterman decided to have his lunch on the other side so I moved on.
It is now under the stay/brace/angle. Take your pick on what you want to call it.
Cheers for the cache.

My first time across on the punt - what great fun, and certainly amazing manouevering by the ferry man. Absolutely beautiful day, highlighting the gorgeous colours of the Clutha. Had planned to have a picnic after locating this cache - I headed up to where the GPS directed me, and laughed when I reached it and found that my friends in the car had already arrived in the location. TFTC.
Cache 819 Got the other side of the ferry yesterday time to get this side on the way home. For a start I followed the compass to the low side only to realise it must be up the top, so with my torch I made my way up to the picnic area and began my search, it didn’t take long to come up with the goods cache is in excellent condition T4TC

Checked all posts thoroughly. NADA. Arranged a replacement to help this one along. Cheers. Placed at broken post, under stay - between A frame 5m from GZ
Thursday 12 November. Its exploring the Clutha River today to Beaumont and back down to Lawrence. Lets get moving Toby.
Toby, Zara and I are on a 3 week geo adventure of Cromwell, Southland, Catlins, Balclutha with a day in Dunedin and quick stop in Timaru. With Lenny, my trusty navigator and TBD my companion/mascot. we managed to visit lots of green boxes, now happy faces with the odd sad one. Did some LABs , earth caches, virtuals and wherigos, all chucked into the mix to rack up 500 odd caches. Lots of kilometers, lots of exploring and lots of fun. Thanks to all COs for our wonderful experience.

Hmmm. Some posts have newly been pulled out of ground. Didnt find any rocks either. Maybe muggled? I will come back again one day.
Headed out today to pick off a bunch of caches alongside the mighty Clutha, as part of a last-minute effort to grab the final souvenir for the Museum challenge. I'd not seen these punts before or considered that they could be a thing in New Zealand - another bit of learning for the day. Took a while to find it as there was a muggle nearby, but once he'd cleared out I stopped behaving like a tourist and found the cache quickly. Cheers!
Will have to come back and go over the river.Found on a Geo mission with RowenaD. Working on the mystery at the museum series. Tftc
Punt not working so this one (twin from other side of river) will have to wait for another day. Tftc
Well we lucked in here, our normal way of caching is just to drive and see what turns up. So heading from Balclutha to Alexandra we took a few back roads and discovered this pair of caches and what a pair. The punt was running, well the river was running which makes the punt move and we managed a fantastic return trip, successfully securing the caches on both sides.
The punt captain was a lovely lady who gave us heaps of info and we also got to talk to some caravaners. All in all a wonderful way to break the journey. Thanks heaps for the cache

Today I was driving from Tapanui in Central Otago, through to Dunedin, stopping to find a few caches along the way. This cache was found along the way. TFTC! (Apologies for my log being over 4 months late!)
Second go at this one. Success!!! Much nicer day to hunt amongst the long grass, last time it was raining. TFGC
Boxing day and nothing better than signing a few logs. Had come this way one other night getting others caches. This was on the list to get today.was hoping the punt was going so I could go for a ride but alas it was not. Was an easy find. Signed and off back to the car and to the next one. TFTC
Found with our 2 and 5 y.o. Got the ferry across yesterday but it's not running today due to high winds.
A quick park and grab on our way to Alexandria to pick up a cache or two. Not here at the right time to take the ferry may be next time . Great pice of history

4Clubs and I chose this place as our morning tea spot and it was lovely sitting looking out over the river with the punt across on the other side. Unfortunately we were half an hour too late for the crossing but it wasn't an issue, we were happy to drive the long way. TFTC. Dropped a TB off to continue its journey.
Great spot for a picnic, lovely views over the river and the sun was finally coming out. Dakotacats found the cache while I sorted out morning tea. TFTC
TFTC - quick find after a walk down to the river edge. No crossings available during the middle of the day so will have to come back to do that
This was an awesome experience. Thanks for taking us here. And Terry the Ferry driver...great guy! TFTC Bitsprayer

Found with Jessica - logged as friend. Amazing crossing on the punt - a hidden treasure. 3/12 today.
First time that I've seen the punt operating. As I still had one cache to do on this side and already had done the other side I decided to for go the punt trip
Just some blackberries and the cache for me. The boat was parked on the other side but it would be fun to take the trip across some time. I could see what looked like an information board on the opposite side but nothing like that here. TFTC # 12,179
Quick Find, Punt closed at time of visit but we will return just to experience this part of historic NZ.
We'll have to come back here one day and take the car over on the barge, today the water looked quite swirly... TFTC
Heard about this place, never seen it in person. Can't wait to get to the other side the long way round.
After looking at the river and the punt I strolled back to where the needle was pointing.
Thanks

Missed the punt by an hour or so, so the others can wait another day sometime. Found the cache and SL. All in good condition, TFTC
Having a lovely picnic amongst the most stunning scenery. and finding a few caches around this lovely road. Thanks for the excuse to visit. And for the well maintained caches.
Having picked up the other side earlier in the day we came back during 'opening hours' (4-6pm) and went for a trip across to the other side. The punter (is that what he's called?!) was happy to wait for us while we grabbed the cache. Very nice guy who was happy to talk. TFTC Bitsprayer.
Found the two caches at the base of something, but still under the flat rock. Long grass was a little wetting after the rains. Snapped up the spare con and popped the recent pages in the cache with the good original logbook. Added some swag and a new pen all grabbed up in a PVC baggy and rehid. Clutha had some flow going on and was discoloured. TFTC
Scrambled to find this one while tyhe punt was coming across for us- just managed, because we didn't know if we would be coming back over after crossing to get the cache on the other side of the river.
Timing is everything, and we didn't have all that long before the punt closed for the morning.
Great trip over and back, of course, and the ferryman was most affable.
Thanks for placing, Bitsprayer.

We were about to take a punt to get to the geocache on the other side - katiew quickly found this cache for us while we watched the punt come over to get us.
Heading back to Dunedin so another Geodetour is in order to get the remaining caches along the River. Nice quick and easy find. Red flag up today so no ferries crossing. TFTC
Papa and Guwapo on a road trip with Debsnz and Aorakisheep. A quick find by Guwapo. Found original and replacement - signed both. Salamat!
Signed both containers after nearly signalling the ferryman when hunting for this cache.
Both containers are in good condition.

Found after a great trip across on the ferry. Not sure why there were two containers and two logbooks. Signed both. TFTC
Holidaying in the area with tmann421 and collecting some caches along the way. Had a great trip and thoroughly enjoyed the views and history of the area.
We had hoped to be able to cross on the ferry, but arrived after dark The river was high due to the recent rain and very fast flowing. Spent some time looking over the ferry before making a quick find here. TFTC

Another good find on a trip around the area with Just-Lookin.
Enjoyed the drive!
Pretty cool ferry but no trip for us tonight!
Soon had it located and log signed. TFTC

Found two caches at this spot - the original AND a replacement by the look of it. Great fun though and my first time on a punt. Tftc.
4.15pm. Arrived at the river intending to do only the cache on our side. But just then the operator of the punt arrived for the afternoon shift. He took us across to do this cache and then back for the other. Got a good explanation of the operation of the punt at the same time. All quite a bonus.
The cache was a quick and straightforward find.
Tftc.

It was in operation but waiting when we drove by for the cache but it's not the way we want to go as more caches up road for us. Cool that it's still in use. Tftc
Today my mom and I were heading to Wanaka. We had a great day enjoying some fruits and stops along the way to enjoy the scenery. TFTC
Every day we are traveling around is same but also different. Today we had again the pleasure to visit some very beautiful spots and were also able to find nearly placed geocaches. I thank every single owner for placing it and giving us with doing this an other good reason to come here.
Mallorcatommy and I were on our journey through the southern island of New Zealand. With the help of geocaches we came to so many beautiful places, saw breath-taking landscapes and had, all in all a very wonderful journey! Thank you to all owners for placing all those nice geocaches!
Rentdi29 thank you for the warning of the human land-mine, disgusting but still wanted to log cache. I also signed your name. Cheers for cache
We’re taking this one as found, only stopped by some a*****hole s**ting at the spot.
