Having a weekend for myself but the weather is not playing ball. Still, had to take the opportunity to find some caches. Pulled over on my way to Canvastown for the night a couple of times to claim some smileys. Was very wet but I was armed with proper gear so still doable. Found them all thanks to clear locations, hints and sometimes previous logs. Thanks all CO's!

29-Feb-24
Nice hint, thxJust arrived from the North Island heading over to Blenheim, but took my time to stop for a cache or two or three Well foundTftc

11-Jun-23
Previously, I skipped this cache due to bad weather, and on another trip tried to find it, but failed. Today, I had along Marchwood, a super cacher and all round nice guy to help me. I still fixated on the tree that fit the cache name without any results. Fortunately, Marchwood, expanded the search to the left and a bit up the bank and made the find. TFTC.

22-Jan-23
Another warm Sunday buzz on Bumblebee-st. Got on the road while it was still quite quiet and cool. This was the sixth find for today. Not too bad, after dodging the toilet area. Just as per hint, and it has survived the weather event of Aug 22.

14-Oct-22
I stopped by several weeks ago, but it was raining, so I didn't feel that I gave it all the time it deserved. I returned today and looked fairly carefully. I found the tree sticking out, which is probably where the cx should be, but I found nothing.

01-Oct-21
Quick find. TFTC

10-Sep-21
Not as tricky as it sounded. Just followed the geotrail! All in good order. Bone dry! TFTC Smile

06-May-21
A solo trip over the hill today for an evening meeting in Blenheim enabled me to stop at a few of these little pull over spots with out the rest of the family saying no. Nice quick find and sign. Thanks for the cache.

30-Aug-20
Almost overshot the parking area for this one but managed to stop in time. Climbed over the dirt hump and made our way through the prickles etc to GZ where cache was quickly spotted. tftc

20-Jul-19
Heading home from Nelson and have a few caches sitting in my off line list just waiting for the right moment. Pretty mucky here.... but cache in good nick tucked away.

Why not indeed.
A quick find here and all good.
There are a few spots like this down this road where the road direction has changed and nature has been left to take over the old road sections or temporary roads that were around. If you ever wanted to film a post apocalyptic movie there are plenty of options for filming locations! That’s what I always think of when grabbing ones like this. TFTC Samy!

I devised a plan today for those kind of ‘pesky’ caches on the road to Nelson. Pesky in the respect that anytime we are heading past we always seem to have other plans, or a car up your bum not allowing you to stop in time.
So, I decided today will be the day for the last 15 between Rai and Hira. Take it easy, cache safely, and never again have to say ‘oh, there’s one there I have not got yet’.
Just me today, Jo is working. 15 targeted, one not attempted due to muggles, 2 DNFs and the rest tagged and bagged succesfully. Thanks to all COs.

Found this cache on my way to Picton.

Thanks Malta-Dinger

17-Jan-19
We are on vacation in New Zealand and of course we seek some caches.
Thanks for this one!
Greetings from the Dutch.

Quick find this afternoon with eltee291 and crman1 on the way back to Blenheim from Nelson. Great little hiding spot, very quiet back there. Signed the log and replaced as found. Visiting from Victoria, BC, Canada. Thanks for the cache, samy! Smile

14-Jan-19
Found today with hingis20 and crman1. It was supposed to be a relatively nice day out that way but the inconsistent weather followed us and in Nelson we encountered some downpours. Didn’t stop us from caching though. TFTC

14-Jan-19
Hingis20, eltee291 and I are on our way to Nelson to see the sites and cache a bit. Tftc

24-Apr-18
good hide, thank you samy

14-Jul-17
Interesting that the road is just abandoned. It might come in use again. It allowed me to run rampent without the presence of muggles. I found it pretty quickly & put it back in place. Find #307

05-Jun-17
A nice toilet stop for some untidy travellers. Yuck. Cache all good though. Cheers.

Found on a long weekend up in Nelson/Marlborough, with family, friends, and caching. Ticks all my boxes!!

Thanks to all of the CO's for the hides. Cheers.

09-May-17
Y not indeed.

There's something eerily attractive about these abandoned roads; or is that just me?

Whatever the answer to that it does make a handy stopping off and caching point between Nelson and Blenheim.

With an hour or two to spare this afternoon, I decided to head out for a few park and grabs to keep my numbers ticking on.

A quick find here, thanks in part to some handy geotrails!

Thanks

#3447. I was over on a work trip and had a meeting at Havelock this morning. On the drive back to Nelson I had time to stop for a few caches before I needed to catch my flight back to Wellington at 5pm. The weather today was stunning - very hot and sunny. Luckily all the caches found were fairly straightforward finds. Nice change from the tricky urban caches in Nelson yesterday. Y not indeed. Stopped and walked past the piles of toilet paper on the old road. None freshly deposited luckily. The geotrail was spotted and soon after the cache was in the hand. Signed the logbook and replaced as found. Thanks for hiding it here.

09-Feb-17
I needed a cache that started with the letter 'y' and this one certainly does so it was a fairly long drive to get to this one, which was an easy find. Thank you samy for the cache

#8669. We stopped by State Highway 6 in Whangamoa for a short walk. GZ was all quiet when we visited. Quick find. The log book was damp, but writeable. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.

Thanks for bringing us to the site, and …

Our first foray into geocaching after an 8 month break so we decided to look for a few on our way to Nelson for the day. TFTC!

18-Sep-16
TaybeeDragon decided we should go To Nelson, so I decided we should go *toward* Nelson - and work on those caches we keep driving past. It is raining. So caching in raincoats, driving in raincoats, and despite the air con trying to dry out the car, we had a major case of steamy windows. Alas, no Tina Turner album in the car!
Another in the excellent *The Road Used to go Here* series. But with a cache title like that I suspected the cache would be up top, and was about to scout ways to get up there when we found the cache Smile.

18-Sep-16
Rain forecast for Blenheim and fine for Nelson. The Seagnoid has a mission so lets go to Nelson. Mission objective gets a slight change with caching on the Whangamoas on the way. Yeh right - Its raincoat season and everywhere is wet and often slippery. Trying to keep logs dry in the rain is an interesting experience. Its interesting where roads use to be and this one is no exception and use to be a lot narrower and bendy. Thought we were in for a bank climb but the Seagnoid spotted the boxy. Cheers

29-Aug-16
Found this little cache lying on the ground just off the beaten track. Returned it to just above head height. Tftc

01-May-16
A nice quick find here, and the log seems fine thanks to someone recently replacing it. It was tempting to drive the road, but the banks at each end looked like they should be obeyed. TFTC

26-Apr-16
Quick find on our way to Blenheim. Thanks for the cache

26-Feb-16
This is a revisit for us and we are glad to collect this smilie. TFTC it does need a new log as it is sodden. We have put a new piece of paper in as a temporary measure .

23-Jan-16
Took a little while as the gps was off but found it eventually in 30c heat! Probably needs a bit of maintenance - log looks a bit knackered. TFTC though Smile

After reading some logs I thought it might be difficult to find but when I reached GZ it was a very easy find, lucky!

November in Europe, the dark month, neighter autumn nor winter: short days, rain, fog. Everywhere unlucky people.
But now we are in NZ. Early sunrise, mighty green and flowers everywhere. Happy cows and sheeps also. We delight look forward to such lovely challenge. Thank you NZ. Greetings from Germany, from the mountains of Harz. TFTC

Could have been cool if this strip of road had been left open..

I left the container the right side up.. it also helps if the replacement-log someone put in there doesn't stick out of the box to act as a water-bridge Wink

Found at 03:56 PM - #5969

This cache was placed to break the journey and that is what it did for us today. Heading for Nelson up the coast road from Kaiapoi where we attended a picnic for the MEGA we put in this co-ords to get us going in the right direction. Thanks for placing the cache samy! We managed to sign the log with our Power Tank pen but the log is satched. Sorry, as we are travelling in a hire car we didn't have our stash to replace the log for you.

22-Oct-15
Like others have said - log is full and the replacement piece of paper is damp. Needs some TLC by CO next visit. Thanks for breaking my journey and placing the cache.

Log sodden, needs replacement.

Yesterday NZDi (aka Mrs Kiwimykl) said that if it was fine today she wanted to go to Nelson for some retail therapy and perhaps we could do some caching during the trip. I'm not normally a religious man, but last night there was much praying to the weather Gods, and this morning my prayers were answered... in reality the only praying that went on was that the weather forecast would be right and this is the Top of the South, so divine intervention didn't really have a lot of say in the matter.

To make things easier, NZDi took over the driving duties, while I did the navigating. Over the course of the day we looked for 12 caches and found them all, some were in good condition and some were not. We repaired/replaced some but not all as we ran out of repair material.

This was our final cache of the day, NZDi's OCD even number fetish meant we had to finish on an even number and this was supposed to be number twelve. If anybody checks back at today's caches, they will see that I mis-counted and it is actually 13... oops. Oh well 13 is made up of 1 and 3, and 1 plus 3 equals 4, and 4 is an even number... somehow I don't think that will cut the mustard.

Anyway onto the cache, all in all a QEF, unfortunately the log was sodden and I didn't have anything left in the cache mobile to replace it. I signed our names on another EFTPOS receipt and placed it with the sodden log.

TFTC samy!

Found on our 25 day New Zealand South Island holiday.

Apologies for the late log but with little or no internet as we travelled and only super slow WiFi in van parks I decided to log all finds on my return home.

Grabbed this one while heading North.

After a nice and comfortable crossing of Cook Strait (where we suddenly saw a lot of dolphins Smile) on The Interislander Ferry we were now ready to "explore" The South Island. At the I-site in Picton we ordered a B&B northwest to Nelson, and on our way there we made some stops to enjoy the many scenic views and of course find some caches, too Wink.

Because of the very precise hint it was no problem to locate the box.

Thanks for the cache.

Today we went together with Silli1310 from Nelson to Duncan Bay. Since we still had a few days until the next appointment, we chose smaller roads to see a bit more of the country. This allowed us to stop every now and then and take a closer look at the area or look for one or the other cache. Many thanks for the cache.

For the sake of sanity Wink we set off with sonia26642 for a crazy geocaching trip, aiming to cache until we drop. The main destination was Nelson and the ‘surrounding’ area, but then we ended up covering a few miles in three northernmost regions, plus a few in Canterbury. We were signing/stamping the log as 'Team Polak' or ‘TP’ for the two of us on this trip to save logbook space. We found a lot of different caches, city ones, road side, park side, up a hill and on an island, and we enjoyed every single one of them. It was good to be a professional thingfinder for a few days!

We had great fun and are grateful to all CO’s who placed caches for us to find, and help restore our sanity before returning to our other non-geocaching lives!!

Come and join us the next New Zealand geocaching MEGA event!! Register your interest now at www.nzmega2015.com to receive newsletter updates and be the first to know. It will be a great event, come and be a part of it!!

[green]Day 3 of our 5 day Easter caching roadtrip. Today we are heading from Blenheim to Nelson.[/green]
Traffic was busy while we were in here and I can imagine what they mustve been thinking we were up to. The container is a 200ml not 400ml sistema, it had a bit of water in it but thankfully the last cachers sealed the bag properly so the logbook is fine. Thanks for the cache Smile

Both ends of the road now seem to be blocked. Pulled off the road at the east end and saw a camper van, with a person walking along the blocked road - figuring it could *only* be another cacher, we wandered over and talked to him as he found it, then signed the log. TFTC.

This cache was found as part of my epic as move down south to Christchurch from Auckland - A drive that involved around 3,000km, 350 caches, 14 days, and a bit of a detour through East Cape, Gisbourne, Napier/Hastings, some back roads in the Wairarapa, Cape Pallisier and Nelson/Tasman as well as every CANZ cache along the way that I was still missing. (Hence my excuse for the not as interesting log as I usually try to make mine.) But thanks to every awesome amazing as cacher that placed caches along these roads, you made my trip awesome, and very cache happy! SmileSmileSmile

Another epic abandoned road!! Awesome!! Container was easily found once I read the size, but it was very very soaked.
