Quite a tough cache to get too, despite even being on the correct side of the river for the entire walk! Either way you come however, I feel like the terrain is a tad too low.

I started approaching this cache from "Cliffhanger" further downstream. Given I was already on the correct side of the river I made my hike from here. I got about halfway, when I noticed **three** people on horses, hoarding sheep! Such a strange location for them to be! I can barely see an access road on satellite view to work out where they came through to access this paddock!

I was in a big open area so they also spotted me, and one of them called out asking what I was up too. I assured them I was just bush walking along the river corridor, and won't get in their way. After all I was on the opposite side of the fence to where they were controlling the sheep....

Eventually I got close to GZ, and found the cache sitting right where it should be in all it's former glory Big Grin Untouched for the past year since the last finder, but still in good condition.
**I retrieved the cache** from it's position given it is archived and in a pretty remote spot. It barely even got many finds in the 8 years it was active, so will contact the CO and see what happens with it.

Thanks rbirtles, a fantastic location, shame more people didn't come out to find this cache before it went to the cache gods

Catching up with my best mate we decided to head down to this lovely spot to enjoy the view and a swim.

We had been there a number of times for to have a swim before lying on a rock shooting the breeze while enjoying the view and sun. My best mate is a rock climber who had visited the spot a number of times to bolt the cliffs opposite for rock climbing (with approval from the ACT Gov) so we knew the area well.

Only recently becoming a geocaches and him stopping a number of years ago we had a great excuse to go again discovering there was one so close (not that we needed an excuse).

We took our known route down the cliffs opposite the cache and enjoyed the area while some teenage muggles swimming nearby packed up and left (first time I have ever seen anybody else there). Once they were gone we jumped in the water, swam over and climbed up the other side to this lovely spot and the cache. Unfortunately didn't have anything to trade this time but when I am next there I will bring something along. Enjoyed some more swimming and sun before heading back up the cliffs.

Ahh, brings back memories of exploring the rivers edges waaaaay back then. And those carp, big buggers, kings of the river (unfortunately). Great views down and back down the river. Favorite added. TNLNSL TFTC

After going to an Art Quilt meeting, I decided I felt like a walk ... make use of the last of the long days/light evenings B4 daylight saving ends Smile
So ... I parked near the sewerage works and headed along the track ... got to the edge of the river and realised that the one on THIS side of the river is actually the other one, further along - oops! ... Oh well - not quite Sunset yet, and not too cold - wonder if I can find a place to cross without getting too wet? - actually found so where I could take off my shoes and socks and only get wet below the knees (if I was 30 years younger and not so uncoordinated I may have just been able to jump over - lol)
TFTC - what an amazing place! ... pity it was starting to get dark - the Sun set while I was at GZ signing the log and taking photos ... but it was still light for long enough to cross the river at a different spot ... Took my shoes off again, but got the bottom of my jeans (knees down) wet this time ... got home and remembered I had forgotten to look at the number I was meant to note down - oops! ... Oh well - good excuse to come back here again (probably on the way to do the other one Smile and have another explore - which meant I was actually slightly disappointed when I looked at my photos and realised I had taken one of the open cache, and I could see the number - lol

After doing the Cliffhanger cache decided to head here for a quick find. It was certainly worth the visit, what a delightful spot. TFTC.

3891. Found with Tanso during a great trip out in this part of the world. We successfully negotiated our way from No. 4 and reached a wonderful spot. A quick find here this time. Everything was in A1 condition and we sat and admired the scenery for several minutes while I rested a rolled ankle. Now where is the path to 2a?
Many thanks rbirtles for the cache and bringing us to this lovely spot. I grabbed your coin to move on. I figured it had been here long enough despite it being a great place.

Boot65 and myself came out, after missing out on number 4 we thought should just go and look at the rest, and this one is in good shape "YES". It has been a great walk today along here.
I'll be back to see this guy again one day.
Thanks rbirtles

The last stop on a great morning walk with Rbirtles along the Molongalo River. And another great vantage point Smile.

Many happy memories and reminiscing as we walked to the cache. Rbirtles, myself and our dog used to come up around here but on the opposite side of the river every so often on a weekend and to do some exploring walks - it really is another top spot. TFTC Rbirtles - good to see another ammo box in the wild Big Grin

1884+100=1984 with Captain Tomato

What a marvellous first hide - an entire adventure series! Excellent - thanks Rbirtles!

Although we did them all in one day, Captain Tomato says that we were looking to be put on the Gentlemen's Challenge Honour Board. It isn't his fault - he was held back by my feet which are still playing up since the Scabby expedition and my podiatrist stills says I shouldn't be "tramping". So we did it in the leisurely style - 35min 2km round trip from Coppins Crossing to wp1; 3.5 hours 8.2km round trip from the poo factory to pick up wps 2,3,4 and watch CT climb Cliffhanger whilst I listened to the water babbling beautifully by; 2.5 hours 6.7km round trip Woodstock Nature Reserve past Uriarra Crossing to pick up 5 and GZ. So a Gentleman's effort of 16.9km. The trick - staying very high on the fence bordering the Corridor whenever possible - this kept us in open gound.

What a marvellous, enjoyable day! What a pleasure finding nice ammox boxes at each waypoint and a nice big double one at the GZ! Rbirtles, here is the mtbikeroz seal of approval - well done - VERY WELL DONE.

#1 - an easy ramble to a nice rocky hilltop with some lovely views below.
#2 - a lovely spot to overlook a lovely wide rocky crossing area with flat rocks
#3 - gobsmackingly wonderful - I loved this location. My photos won't do it justice because the light was all wrong. An incredible gorge with steep cliffs and a long rock obstruction right across the river. I found the cache and then had to go back and find CT - he was obviously bored because he decided climb up a super steep cliff whilst hanging on to his blackberry thwacker. He scared the daylights out of me! We had come down off the corridor edge and followed an animal trail to the bottom of the western cliffs and then wandered around into the gorge proper - great fun scramble - I almost wish I had gone up the way he did - scary fun!!
#4 Another lovely high rocky location overlooking rapids and open areas.
#5 I loved this rocky little orange outcrop - the hide was well-positioned for fun! and so I scrambled up the rocky spine to the top for more fun.
GZ After carrying the blackberry thwackers all the way, they finally went to use for 10m. My arms were sore - and I said it would be easier going through Darkest Africa. Another great rocky location overlooking deep pools of water in the Murrumbidgee.

Back at the car at 2:30 for another coffee and then off for some more caching!

Thanks for the great cheerful company as usual, Captain Tomato.

Just had to leave a coin and travel slug at this excellent spot.

Found with SecretSquirrel-BJC.

After enjoying a few minutes at RR2 we headed across the river and made our way up to the edge of the river corridor and followed the fence a fair way towards the GZ. Then we traversed along the hillside, gradually making our way lower until we arrived at the river.

My GPSr was wandering a fair bit and it looked very much like we may have made a bad decision to keep low. So I started out on what looked like a suitable way up over the ridge. BAD move.. Surfice to say I survived a short but scary ascent up the cliff, only to find SS over the other side at a much lower altitude - with cache in hand. The rest was easy..

Thanks for another ammo box at a great location. Loved the area.

Number 3 found by Puk Ed, escapetheratrace and I on our completion of the Rivers Run challenge. This was a beautiful spot for a cache and the rock formations and water are just stunning. Taking hints from previous logs we struck out from Number 2 across the river and found the mythical fence line and then followed that until we found the spur that we took down to 3. As previous cachers have noted we found the dynamic lifter and gardening tools but didn't come across any 'funny plants'.
I saw a fish jump in the water too. Smile

Thanks for the cache, rbirtles.

Still completing the challend with PUDDLE GANG and all the rivers run. Very nice spot for a cache. Our sprits are still high although the body is starting to fade. TFTC

2867. It's good logging last as most the details are already filled in. The most unusual thing I found on the way down to GZ was the pristine packet of Sugar Cane Mulch and another of Dynamic Lifter. Hmmm as one of the team remarked "there's weed somewhere". This was to be very prophetic - but I wonder why you would grow it in this very remote area?

A definite highlight at GZ and a wonderful spot to stop and admire. I took of in search of the next jewel as the few hours were rapidly getting to a bit more than that.

TFTC and the GORGE-eous view (sorry about that - it's late)

Yes as stated by all other finders this is the jewel in the series.

On advice, we took the fence line till GZ was about 3 o’clock then made the scramble down to the cache.

What a remarkable, unexpected location. Surprised no other cache has ever been placed here. The water looked so inviting, but time was against us on this one.

If you can only do one cache in this series make it this one.
Good Stuff rbirtles

Undoubtedly the best of the locations, just in case it hasn't been said before! By now McWindeLune7 were into a good rythmn, except for Mrs W - I was feeling a bit off colour and I was offered the chance to rest up the hill from the cache. Thank goodness I'm too stubborn to give in because it would have been a great shame to miss this location, as well as the many Crowea bushes in bloom as we came down the loose slope and a small orange coloured snake that nearly came to grief under my boot. I've never seen a snake like it - a coppery orange, and diminutive in both size and demeanour - the BEST sort of snake [^]. The rare and strange ACT legless lizard perhaps? The boys made the find while I messed around with photos, then we continued further down river along the rocks. Some great rock hopping as the day became quite warm and we faced more climbs to get up to Number 4. What a wonderful spot, thanks rbirtles.

28-Feb-10
Continuing on from number 2 and keeping to the high ground, the team pushed on and once somewhere near the suggested area to descend, we took to the scrub and headed down towards the water.

And what a great view was presented to us as we came out of the scrub and onto the rocks above GZ. A great gorge which, a couple of weeks ago would have had the water fairly pumping through. (One member of the team should have a tale to tell about their trip down towards GZ) The views from the GZ was excellent and you could certainly see which way the river goes

Thanks rbirtles....... a great spot with great views........and the team moves on.

This Rivers Run series is getting better by the cache! This is an absolute fantastic location! I stayed nearly half an hour after finding the cache, just to soak it in! It’s been a fair while since I have been this impressed by a new cache location in the ACT! Mind you, right now was a fantastic time to visit! The river is still high, offering a fantastic landscape! – I felt like diving in, and just soaking it up!

If you only do one “Rivers Run†cache, then do this cache! This is a fantastic location! (All Canberrans should visit this location!) – But do it soon, to get the full effect! (Before the river returns to a trickle).

Unless another cache pops up in 2010 with a better location – which would be rather difficult, I will vote for this cache as best location for 2010!

Had to wade across the river to get back to the car! No rock hopping available at the moment! But that was all part of the fun!

Thanks rbirtles for the cache, and the series – wonderful!

Logs pretty much the same for all as I DID THEM ALL IN THE ONE DAY. Pics taken for all too.

Parked car at Coppins crossing in the dark at 6am, then proceeded to walk to #1. Arrived there at 6:15am by torchlight, light drizzle. My eyes coped with the pre-dawn overcast sky very well and I could see Black Mountain tower glowing over in the distance and dawn just arising. Nice little views of the Molonglo too. Nice spot #1.
Walked back to car, got out the Mountain bike, crossed the Molonglo, and then proceeded to ride and slosh down the track on the Nth side for some considerable distance until I was nearly directly above #2. Dumped bike, then I zig-zagged down the very steep embankment following well defined GOAT tracks. Arrived at #2 well hidden a la natural. Relieved the cache of its TB and Geocoin. Nice spot #2. Arrived there 7:50am.
Consulted GPS, Hmmmm, I need to cross the river for nos 3&4. So, I crossed there and then – LOTS of water flowing, but OK. Then it was a pretty severe bush bash, steep gullies, deep side creeks (all flowing vigoursly), having enough of this I made for MUCH higher ground and followed the fence line till I was on the spur leading to No. 3. Down the spur I went, found no. 3 – WOW – TOP SPOT! Seeing the water flow through here is quite something – it must be speccie when in flood. Arrived there 8:55am. Admired the geology and scenery for a while, then back up the hill a bit and headed off to #4.
Down again to the rivers edge for #4, another nice location. Arrived there 9:30am. Then I crossed the river there and went straight up and up and up till I had clear grass and an easy stroll back to the bike, admiring the gorge scenery from the heights as I went.
A drizzly ride back to car, hopped in car and drove to near #5. Met the local farmer and had a good chat as I wandered down the road. Onwards to #5 – approached from the high ground, got to GZ coords, but no cache – looked vertically down, hmmmm, it must be down there. So backtrack a bit, round I go, and there I find it – another nice little hide with trickiness. (easily retrieved in the wet as there were good footholds). #5 – another great spot. Arrived there at 12:10pm.

GZ calculated, off I go, some tracks, some bushbashing, some rocks, arrived at GZ – Hmmmmm, this is NOTHING like rBirtles would do, and nothing like the other wonderful locations. Blackberries and more blackberries in the middle of more blackberries. Hmmmm, consulted my numbers, yep, all OK. Arrived there 1pm.
(*^&^%^%^()*&(*^%(*&&* - There was clearly something wrong with the formula, and I had no idea what as the numbers and formula were quite specific. OK, whip out phone and call rBirtles – DAMN – no signal down here. UP I go and UP I go, ah, at last, a signal, nobody home. Double Damn. Wrung out all my clothes as by now there was a fair bit of rain, and I was literally STEAMING. Waited a while, tried again, nothing. Dejected, I then wandered off back to the car, found a much easier way back. Took off gaiters, boots etc etc, and was about to drive off, ring ring…..hello – Yay, mr. Birtles with the correct coords. A bit of chat, and OMG – That’s further than I went before, and the rain is still falling. Oh well, I’m wet, WARM & steamy, still OK after some lunch, so off I went. Some considerable time later (hey, after 15km walking and 16km riding one is allowed to slow down a bit), I found the elusive cache. Arrived there 3:30pm.
ANOTHER nice location. Then returned back to car, completing 16km bike riding and 21km walking for the day with considerable rock climbing.

In summary, 2 FTF’s (#2 and final Puzzle), [red], one top series of spectacular caches with simply excellent locations[/red], [blue] Easily #3 was the top spot, such a wonderful geological and scenic spot.[/blue]

Thanks rBirtles for the wonderful series, the sustenance and the geocoin too, well done.

Yay! Another *FTF* Smile

After doing No. 4 nearby debated if still enough daylight, as 6:30pm and sunset at 8:04pm decided worth a try.
Scrambled along the river, climbing up a bit to avoid cliffs. Sun even came out for a nice view along the river.

Got to GZ at 7:00 pm and found it easily.

Hurried back to the car as didn't fancy rock hopping the river in the dark, managed to get back by 7:45pm, still daylight, phew Smile
Thanks for the cache and adventure!
