This Cache still exists and people are still visiting and maintaining however, I haven't lived in the location for over a decade but continue to receive messages for assistance in finding.

What a good adventure. We created the puzzle cache and then went on to this one. The track was OK except for a couple of stretches. We walked about the last 650m. We renewed the container and of course the hint matches perfectly and the coords spot on. Thanks for sharing this with us and fav point alloc.

20-Mar-21
Well we hiked all the way up past the gun torrents and artillery sheds. When we got to the chimney we looked everywhere. Did not find but we enjoyed the view.

It is gone the bushfire probably wiped it out.

One of my favorite parts of this hobby is the beautiful places you discover along the way. Thanks for bringing me to this beautiful location.

We found and signed the logbook but there was no container anywhere. Could the next cacher please bring one. Great place and history! TFTC

Dropped in today as I was close by and replaced the container with something I had in my Ute not ideal but better than last one which was a temporary placed over a year ago. Placed in more protected spot within a metre

The caches out here were our goal for the day. What an adventure it turned out to be. Found all the caches, learnt more of our history and did one very strenous walk, for an oldie as well as managed to get strung up by wait awhile that wanted us to stay longer.
This was the strenuous walk even though it wss short but the cache now bears my name. It was certainly easier coming back down. TFTC TNLN SL

Log is soaking and needs replacing. I unfortunately had not carried spares up with me and I certainly wasn't going to do that climb again.
Sincerest apologies for not having read COs comments regarding maintenance prior to this I only hope that someone else will be more alert and carry a fresh log.

DNF’d this last year but revisited upon another holiday in Cairns! Unfortunately the logbook didn’t survive the wet season and the cache had a fair bit of water in it. Took ages to find but happy to finally have this one ticked off! TFTC Smile

Visiting from Perth... Had fun exploring the area. I found GZ without much trouble but no sign of the cache after a big search. Unfortunately some locals thought it was ok to vandalise the historical structures and injure the native bats; make sure you guys report any of this illegal behaviour!

Very interesting location with stacks of history and magnificent views. Arrived at GZ but cache has been muggled again.

Unfortunately muggled, have replaced cache. Thanks for a spectacular day

Walked to this one with my son, it was well worth the effort. The veiws from here are sensational. This is one of those places that we most probably would not have visited if it were not for the cache being there, and we were really greatful that our hobby takes to so many of these hidden places. Many thanks for this cache.

Found after a beautiful walk on a glorious, sunny day near Cairns. So much history hidden in the bush....and so often it takes a cacher to show us these amazing placesSurprised

The log was in several small screwed up pieces so we replaced it with a new sheet and ziplock bag.

Many thanks for showing us this area Ludwig Leichardt[^][^][^]......another favourite point from usBig Grin

very enjoyable walk with some old history along the way to this great spot, cache found quickly, happy to report that all is in good condition, took some photos and started the return walk.

Thanks for bringing me to this place, a favorite point from me and

What a blumin' awesome spot. This is why I like Geocaching. Absolutely awesome. Thanks for bringing us out here.
After having a quick find, but an extended period of time trying to retrieve it, we signed the log and returned to the gun implacements to do some research on the area.

We enjoyed our walk into GZ. So pleased that there is no longer a need for these gun placements. We are very grateful to the men and women who took on the duty of safe guarding our country so that we can now enjoy the wonderful lifestyle we have. Thanks for bringing us to this spot as we would never have known about if it was not for geocachers like the cache owner who take the time and effort to set a cache for us to find. TNLN TFTC

Out and about with a great bunch of cachers today doing the CITO event presented by Wazza&Kara today. Smile

After trekking through the most beautiful scenery this ares is so famous for we were rewarded with a cache at the end of the path.

So much history here and how exciting (nerve racking) it would have been to be here when it was in full swing.!

TFTC Walter Container and contents all in good order Smile

Found @ 8:30am while attending the False Cape CITO Event Cache.
With cache found it was then all about enjoying this historic area, with gun emplacements and bunkers to search and only imagine the people that built these fortifications to protect our shores.
Long may it stay here to remind us what a sacrifice others have given for so many.
TFTC SL TNLN .....We will give you a "Favourite" for this cache.

excellent location with lots of history. We drove in via old false cape development. 4x4 needed or a car you dont care to much about.

16-Mar-12
I rode out here about 15 years ago. Seeing the cache there gave me a good excuse to do it again. While the track was a little overgrown in places it is still an enjoyable mountain bike ride. Found the cache fairly quickly and headed up to the observation post which I didnt know was there last time. TFTC

Awesome place. I came out here with a friend today and I was pleasantly surprised at the area. The weather was incredible and the views were crazy. So many buildings around. I will be out here a lot more often. Beautiful.

I've been meaning to head out to False Cape Battery for a long time and today finally made it. What a great view! The gun emplacements are interesting to look around. Cache is in tip-top condition but I did have trouble in the wind with some of the log sheets that had come loose. TFTC!

09.45 - Continued our leisurely walk and discussions from 'Ghost Dozer' with its cache owners Walter + Ingrid further to the tip of False Cape. Also here, a recent fire cleared the vegetation. The cache is still safe and well hidden. +/0. T4TC.

I have been keen to visit the False Cape Battery site for a while now and today was the day. With Walter as our guide, our party of four set off. The fantastic weather ensured great views back over to Cairns, Double Island, Green Island and Cape Grafton.
While the track was a little overgrown, it was easy enough to follow and a one-way walk took about 45 minutes.
I would highly recommend this walk to other cachers as both the scenery and the history are exceptional.
We located the cache easily enough and took the small torch. Left a Red Travel Racer Formula One trackable as it was small enough to fit easily inside the cache container. Thanks Walter for a great morning outing and Ludwig for placing this cache.

Well, today a major Geocaching event at the False Cape took place. Brahms6, Wazza&Kara and I went to the place of historic interest. It was quite a bit of bashing through high overgrowth i.e. Guinea grass. We were lucky finding this nice spot on a sunny morning and being able to endulge in the great view we had from the destination. We could see tourist boats going to the reef and hear and watch a helikopter heading for Green Island. To the North Green Island came clearly into sight. We inspected all the buildings of fortunately bygone days.
After returning we had a beautiful BBQBig Grin at lunch I was fortunatly invited to.

[:X][^]Thank you Ludwig Leichhard, for the opportunity you gave us for this enterprise[^][:X].
The cache is still in a very good conditionSmile!

Brahms6 found this one.

Set out on a morning trip to False cape with our intrepid Guide "Walterhelmut" and partners in crime "Wazza&Kara" and Mrs Wazza&Kara The path is a bit overgrown but the walk is great. Don't be put off by this one it is not as hard as you may think. After all Wazza didn't even trip or fall over.

The old site is something to see and the view out over the water is impressive. There is a great seclude little beach along the way that is just yelling out for a day trip in fishing. And the freshwater rockpool looks like it needs to be swum in.

Thanks Walter for the guide.

BBQ after with Wazza&kara, Walterhelmut and The Banjo and then off to the blues festival a great day was had.

Walked down the creek bed from the Brown Bay cache site and followed the easy track to the cache site. Great views towards Double Island and Cairns. Cache was located and we (Neil, Gary and Joe) enjoyed a cool drink and chocolate bar each.

Great area for the locals to find and learn some history. TFTC TNLN

I love history so this cache has top ratings from me! A great walk to reach it and then plenty to explore once there - we spent a good hour looking around and taking photos before heading back to the Jeep for a well earned lunch on the grass by the ocean.

Thanks so much for showing us this spot.

Great adventure was had by all as we walked out to the cache today. Parked near the gate and walked along the foreshore until we found a path back into the development and the lower road. Followed this road until we came to the beach where the little ones remained whilst I made short work of the remainder of the trip to the Cape. After wandering about the overgrown ruins for a bit I headed up to GZ and quickly located to cache. Left a torch and then headed back to the beach. Walked on the upper road on the way back. Thanks for the great location. Still plenty of space out here for a few more caches.

Came through the developers and gee they have made a mess. I lost the track at the rock pool and ended up rock hopping to the end, Not recommended for un-co people such as myself. The cacke container was a lot smaller than i would have expected and was a tricky find. I returned via the old track which only took 15 min instead of 1 hour. I recorded positions on the trail returning 16o52.578S 145o50.872E at the dozer near the rock pool. 16o52.469S 145o50.909E mid way and 16o52.318 145o50.928Eat the end near a ammo store. Lovely spot and walk at the end. Thanks heaps for the Cache

Today was the day that I headed back out to False Cape.
It's been about 15 years since I've visited this spot. Back then you used to be able to 4wd right out to the point.
The developers have put an end to that. They shouldn't have been able to start developing this spot let alone leaving it in that state.[:(!]
I walked along the track that I remembered from all those years ago, although it's changed some what.
The old track is fairly over grown but easy enough to navigate still.
GZ hasn't changed a bit except for more modern graffiti on the walls.[:(!]
Once the cache had been located and dealt with, I headed back to the car. It was a very hot, windless and exposed trek that took me 30mins to complete.
Take plenty of water with you if your walking on a hot day like it was for me.
T. Pure goldGC
L. nothing, as all my other swaps wouldn't fit in the cache. It's a great container but could be lots bigger.
TFTC.

We came at this the hard way, bush-bashing from "Brown Bay" as we didn't want to walk past the signs pointing the obvious way. Ironically, we almost ended up back here anyway, found the road and enjoyed an easier walk along a beautifully maintained road high up the hill (courtesy of the developers who have made an interesting but terrible mess). The site was very interesting and we enjoyed the view and historical points, but failed to find the cache. A case of cache too small, area too large, too many possibilities and too little time. Looked for about 15 minutes (had GZ narrowed down to a smallish area) then had to abandon search as the approaching dark was threatening our return. The walk took us a lot longer thsn Walter's, especially once the darkness fell, and it was well over half an hour back to where we should have left the car, and an hour to where we did leave it (by road this time- much faster!). 7.45pm and very dark when we finally sat down, hot and sweaty and dirty, home 9pm. Gotta love geocaching. Logging a DNF as we ae unlikely to return, it's a long way from home.

To reach the place simply follow the cache listing’s „Driving Directions“ and park your vehicle at S16°52.922’ E145°50.235’.
You can then go arduously rock hopping along the seashore until you find a freshwater rock pool at S16°52.606’ E145°50.831’
or
walk through the nearby gate (no entry!) at S16°52.915’ E145°50.266’ and beyond on rough gravel for about 15 minutes. You will approach the rock pool in question after keeping left and descending a bit getting wet shoes quite likely.
From the pool you will see an overgrown track. Follow it. You are right if you pass an old caterpillar grader bearing witness to the old days when this road was still in use. Close to GZ you have to climb a few steps.
Happy hunting!
