This looked tricky from the start. Took a while to pluck up courage to enter the garden. Then where to start as GPS wasnt that much use. Decided I had the right tree & convinced agile daughter to get out of car to climb the tree but no cache there. On extending the hunting zone I found it. I Feel like this one earns a higher difficulty rating than it has however. TFTC

#11,300. I stayed overnight in Murchison and drove through to Westport this morning to meet a work colleague. We are heading down to Punakaiki today. After picking her up at the airport I mentioned there was a cache here so we wandered over to GZ to look for it. Had to check a few of the trees before spotting the cache. Signed the log and replaced the cache as found. Thanks weenz for hiding it here.

04-Apr-22
After doing a bit of the new cycle trail we decided to do a loop and grab the caches out towards south point. We did a circle of the garden before finding the best approach to the tree. Found and signed. TFTC

TFTC. Things you learn caching - Westport has an airport. A wet day today so we were only aiming for drivebys. This one took the longest and we got wet legs in the foliage.

Found 15th Jan: My first night time geocache (@ 10pm). Phone had me at 1m from hint object - not the right one. Hand went into an empty birds nest by mistake - no body home thank goodness! Kept increasing search area for other hint matches ignoring mobile readings - found at last. Very easy find once at correct hint object
Everything nice and dry and tucked back in place. TFTC

04-Jan-20
Like the previous finder, my phone GPS pointed to a plausible, but wrong tree. Found by searching all the other options fitting the hint! TFTC

20-Jul-19
Just been down the beach on the other side of the air strip so now we are parked at the airstrip. Dusk is approaching fast so torches come in handy to add some extra light to snag and tag this one. Cheers. No flying machines to be seen.

Its off on another geotour this weekend with The Seagnoid, Zara and Toby. We spent last Sunday in Nelson collecting the gemstones from the Museum Heist, so this weekend we are on a Geotour to the Westcoast with The Seagnoid, Zara and Toby, to return the gems. Early Saturday morning we went on another magical tour of Denniston. Great views today just after dawn. Enjoyed a walk along the Kawatiri River Trail. Visited Tauranga Bay to snag an old cache.

20-Jul-19
Another cache I thought I had been to, back in May 2015. but there is noting in the logs, so maybe maybe not. It's getting late in the day, needing torches to find the cache. Well, to not trip over the roots, anyway. Now that this cache has been found and the gems are back in the fault, it's time to head for bed, Another busy day tomorrow!

Taybeedragon and I headed out to the West Coast to figure out how to return the jewels taken from that big heist at the Teague-Ulmer Museum back into their vault. And I picked the West Coast to do that as there is a cache nearby that gives me the last hidden month for a NZ Jasmer. And on top of all that, it is the 50 year anniversary of the first men on the moon - Happy Moon Landing Day! While the rest of the country was bathed in glorious rain, we were stuck with sunshine and clouds. Oh, well, can't have it all.

So Westport has a daily flight to Wellington? Must be very useful, to judge from the number of cars parked here.

10-Nov-18
Having just spent 5 days walking The Old Ghost Road (& one very comfortable night at the Rough and Tumble Lodge) we somehow had the energy to cache our way home. We found 18 and had one DNF, and then wilted and stayed the night in Reefton rather than continuing to Christchurch.

I'm afraid I'm going to continue the cut and paste logs, but at least the weather improved so we could actually open containers without them filling with water (all logs signed Wink).

Speaking of which; we signed the logs BRN (Bo&bronnie, Rincewind3, and Not Manly Jack) to save time and space in the log books.

NMJ wanted to drive out to the rivermouth, and that took us past the airport so...
Let's grab the cache there too! Wink A nice easy find under the watchful eye of a cat in the window of a nearby window.

Found with NZDi. We had been intending to do a trip to the Coast after a workmate and fellow geocacher came back from a Christmas camping holiday and dropped a map of walks around Westport on my desk. On comparing the walk and geocaching maps, it was apparent to see there was plenty of scope for a geocaching holiday or three to the coast. The only thing we needed to ensure was that the weather played the game, unlike when my workmate had her Christmas break there. Knowing that we had the weekend free this weekend I kept an eye on the forecast for the coast and it was looking pretty good, so a motel was booked and a rudimentary and flexible geocaching plan was hatched.

The idea was to head to the Coast early on Friday morning picking up no more than half a dozen caches along the way. We limited ourselves to this as we know from previous experience that it can take over six hours to do an hour and a quarter trip if you are geocaching as well.. Once we got to the coast, we were going to do the Cape Foulwind walk, then cache as much as we could from there back to town. We then intended to do as much of the K.R.T caches before retiring for the night and in the morning do the Charming Creek Walk before heading back home again picking up the odd cache along the way. In the end it was mission achieved with 74 finds over two days and only one DNF along the way.

After our trip from Blenheim, severely limiting the amount of caches we grabbed along the way, we arrived at the carpark around 10am. After getting changed into more appropriate caching attire we walked the track to Tauranga Bay picking up all the caches in order apart from the nearby multi. After completing the Cape Foulwind walk, we headed back towards Westport picking up as many caches as we could along the way.

Only a few more caches on this side of the river to find, however now that I am at home logging all the finds, I see that I missed a nearby Letter Box Hybrid. A disappointment but nothing to worry too much about as I will be coming back to this part of the country for geocaching a few more times in the future.

As for this cache, its another one of those QEF PnGs.

Nocturnal caching trip after kids in bed at the camp ground. Felt a little bit uncertain in the bushes in the dark. Wouldn't do that in Christchurch! Found soon enough fortunately. Thanks to all cache owners for taking the time to place and maintain your caches. BJ25.

A long weekend proved to be just what it said on the tin; a weekend that was long. With mrs capperz trapped in work for 2 of the 3 days this weekend a plan was made to head over to the West Coast for some caching, with the added bonus of some fine weather too. Forecast was for clear skies and low 4, high of 15 degrees, which is some preferred caching weather. Also in possession of a geocaching map of Westport being virgin territory there was every chance of finding a 'few'.
A slight chance of one of 2 FTFs in Westport and the bait was dangled and too good to not take a swipe at. Headed off at 0830 on Sunday and got back around 1830 on Monday so a full on couple of days with park n grabs, beachside specials and a walk along the Cape Foulwind walkway (there wasn't any wind, and it wasn't foul so thinking of renaming it Cape Nicesun.
Day 2 of our trip and most caches were on the Western side of the Buller river. Nice and easy find here as we head towards (in a zig-zaggingly styled) the Foulwind walkway
Coordinates a bit out here, but only one real option for a viable G Z
