Found by The Empire + HAfter finishing our walk around the Tronoh Dredge Reserve, we hopped back in the car and headed towards Bright. The drive back was as scenic as ever, with the late afternoon sun casting a warm glow over the Alpine landscape. The winding road took us through lush greenery and past familiar sights, but the light at this time of day made everything feel new. The Ovens River flowed alongside the road, its gentle rush adding to the peaceful atmosphere. A quick jump out and wander through the bushes to this cool location. Thanks for the cache Cacheadactyl.-M
Interesting history. Don't know what I was expecting up there, but that was definitely not it. Another of those places that you would never find if it wasn't for a geocache. Thanks
A very unexpected location, and intriguing enough to go to the extra lengths to find the cache associated with this sad little burial plot. Someone with time and motive on their side needs to do more to resurrect this site ......... not the inhabitants ! Thankyou for your work here Cacheadactyl. Take a favourite from us !
Out and about today exploring Harrietville with Grannan55 and Geodogs. What a sad but special place. More of our forgotten history. Thank you for taking the time to show us this piece of history. All good here. Now, onto the next one for the day. TNLN TFTC
Nice walk up the hill to find this, got tangled in black berries on the way back
Thanks for the cache

On our way up to Harrietville today meeting up with family members. Keen to complete a few caches whilst up there, didn't get a chance to collect any from the SNOMO series but that leaves a reason to visit this lovely little town again.
Last one for the day as its nearly dark. Very steep little climb to end the day with! Seems like strange place for a cemetery. Interesting reading the sign at the bottom.
Picked up geocoin to move along.

Weekend away with Bogonghazy. Bit of a walk up the hill Quick find. Log book is drenched. Thanks for placing the the geocache
I was staying nearby in the caravan park so wanted to collect this one. A bit of a slog up the hill but only a little way to go.
Cache contents are still a bit wet. I tried to dry out what I could but only had limited time.
Some sad history in the cemetary. But good to see family is still about.
Had a little cool down in the river when I got back to the car

What a fascinating spot, and lots of wildflowers coming out so a double win logbook is soaked!
Not an easy climb. A few trees down, lots of blackberries and no clear path, but we made it. The cache itself is very wet and we could not leave a mark in the log. Have emptied the cache of water and returned. TFTC. Such a special part of the local history we would have driven past if it weren’t for this cache.
Great afternoon meander with intent - Shrubbery not yet grown after winter so a lovely stroll up the obvious trail - first saw the apparent grave sites a bit above the GZ and then backtracked to #7. Poignant history. Peaceful spot. Passing cars as background lullaby. TFTC!
Happy New Year
Out and about with the whole OSHFAM clan on board except geo dog Roxy and Babcia who stayed behind in the van in Porepunkah. After a few marvelous days of sunny weather, today it was not to be with the skies full of heavy clouds and lots of rain pelting down on us. It did not stop our enthusiasm for finding some caches today.
4 out of 5 of us decided it was a good idea to make the climb up this very steep and slippery, prickly slope. The teenager was the only smart one to stay in the car where it was nice, warm and dry. At GZ a quick find was made. Nice. The cache and log was in good condition.
I think I was the only one to slip and slide on my behind on the way down and found myself in the blackberries at the bottom. The kids said I had a dirty big muddy patch on my pants that looked like I had rolled in poo. On our return into Bright afterwards to pick up a bite to eat, some random passer by comes up to me and says it looked like I had s**t my pants. I said “Champ, mate, I’ve just climbed a muddy mountain”. Obviously my hubby and kids laughed at me. Ha ha. Anyway it was fun.
Thank you for the cache here sarrett How can I not give you a favourite point for our adventures here.

Kind of in a rush but the cache was obvious and on the way down I fell into a prickle bush
We decided a while ago we needed a night in Bright so we booked a motel a few weeks ago. We had a couple of appointments so it was a later start than I hoped so the original intention of heading up Buffalo was replaced with a couple of short walk near the base and then into town where I had 1.5 hours exploring while the kids amused themselves in the pool.
This was an intriguing cache and I read the sign at the start before heading off - things were tough in those days. The notes said that snakes and blackberries may be an issue. The former don’t worry me but the latter I don’t like and there were plenty here. Though thankfully after getting through the first 10 metres or so the going was steep but prickle free. At GZ no sign of the graves - must have been some good detective work to find them. Cache was yuck log located and log signed.
On the way back to the car I took a different route which avoided the worst of the blackberries but I had to be carefully on the descent as an uncontrolled one could end in trouble.

A sobering story in a tranquil bush setting.
The tranquil green and browns of the bush were quite a contrast to the white snow of Hotham that I had been through.
Thanks for the cache.

Pretty sure I’d already found this one a while ago but maybe forgot to log it. So today on the way back from skiing I decided to go back and find it again. So, after the short walk/scramble up the hill,I navigated to GZ and the cache was found, signed and returned. At the bottom of the hill, stopped for a look at the sign contributed to by my great grandmother. Nice cache. TFTC
Thanks for the find couldn’t find any graves to too many BlackBerries in the area. cheers
While on a geo trip up the the Alpine region, we detoured past this one to stretch the legs. Such a sad history but a nice place to visit at the same time. The walk to the cache was a bit tricky and steep. Cache was found after we walked around the wrong side and through blackberries

Found in the company of Na'wal and the lady Na'wal. A tough little climb and such a sad bit of history. Love these hidden places with a forgotten story. Thanks for showing us this area. TFTC Cacheadactyl
What a way to get out #100 cache. Just watch your feet because we got blackberry bush prickles everywhere and we all got bitten by bull ants. Tuff hike with the kids. TFTC and a happy new year!
P.S Just watch out for the resident huntsman in the letter box.

Have had my eye on this one for quiet some time. Mainly the DT. Always cruising past, just never enough time.
Well today, on myself and Pacmans 5th day caching, despite pouring rain, we pulled over whilst i went out and did the hike. It was wet, soaking in fact. Uphill, slippery, dirty, mossy. Eventually reached GZ signed the log. Couldn't see a memorial site, but then again all the reasons above. Back down again. Blackberries. Blackberries. Blackberries!
Well worth it tho Thanks sarrett!

just as the sun went down i made my way up the hill for the last cache of the day. an interesting place, yet a very sad story. wondering if anyone would still visit the former cemetery if not for the cache. TFTC!
Got time to run away from the farm for a couple of hours today, so we decided to finish off the Harrietville 5. Already solved, it was going to be a quick easy find. So, we had to do something to fill in a couple more hours. We had passed this point last time, and as we did not have the time, passed by, but today we had the time. Found the parking waypoint easily, read the plaques, and a scramble up and down the hill, avoiding the blackberry (I did have to use my blackberry removal tool once) before stumbling on the easy find.
Thanks sarrett, cache is in good condition.

So hidden, wouldn't have known about the site without a cache bringing us here. Tftc
Been staying at the Smoko Camp ground for a few days and finally decided to walk up and get this cache. It's such a beautiful area, will have to come back and camp here again soon.
Second day of a 2 week horse ride for which I was driving a support vehicle ( I am just getting to log my finds now that I am back) we had the long drive all round to the Bogong High Plains from the other side of Mt Hotham. After a delightful morning tea in Harrietville, I stopped to find this cache. After a short time I had the cache in hand and then was off again. TFTC
It’s a very very sad state of affairs, what happened here. A letterbox denied its full life expectancy while at its pine. Was the truck driver charged? After all, I’m sure the letterbox is not paid as much to be a geocache as it was as a fully functioning letterbox. It just seems so cruel. TFTC Cacheadactyl
This cache piqued our interest with its sad story, your memorial research and logs talking about tough terrain. So while visiting this awesome area we made the stop with McLookers to see if we could fight the blackberries and locate the cache. Once up the steep hill the noxious weed wasn't as bad as we first thought it would be as access to the cache was handled by the male Triton.
Thanks Cacheadactyl for laying to rest No.7 here in this significant area.
Thanks Cacheadactyl for laying to rest No.7 here in this significant area.
The climb was OK but The Tritonz was the brave one near GZ. Love the cache and the story. Thanks sarrett, a favourite from me.
Not a pleasant one at all. Be prepared for thick blackberries and multiple scratches. Wouldn't waste time on this one unless really determined
Wanting something more than a mint tin on a guard rail we headed over. An interesting bit of history. Up we went negotiating the blackberries on a rough track. The memorial was soon spotted and then it was up to the cache. Looks like it's host has toppled over. We completed the signing duties and re hid. TFTC.
Found it! Bonus find was a wild apple tree across the road from the GZ which was laden with delicious ripe apples TFTC
Wandered up there with friends 30+ years ago. Now dense with blackberry and heavily over grown. Did however go straight to number 7 so coordinates excellent. Thanx
Wow. Wow. Wow. What a location. Turned the family into geo mountain climbers to get to the GZ! My gps had me right on a hollow log which looked so obvious a hide before daughter's boyfriend Bazil Brush called "found it" from 10m away. Thanks for the cache, will get my first favorite later.
Tftc and the history, found the grave marker, if you want to find it head about 20 meters downhill from gz and go slightly to your right, there is a rock pile marking the graves
After a couple of after dark caches - in the wet, it was nice to warm up a bit with the walk up the hill.
Lots of little birds going for the disturbed insects. Found the markers, and the depressions in the ground for the graves. Shame there is no markers, but I guess they are 'unknown'.
Yep found the cache easily, and then worked out what the 'Memorial' was for.
Cache dry and intact, reasonable coordinates, so left a Correct Site Marker - surgical marking pen.
A nice D/T combo

What a fascinating piece of history is represented at this site. Thank you sarrett for the cache and the history lesson.

TFTC. We have often passed this spot, not realising the significance. A couple of years ago returning from Harrietville on a bike, a few of us stopped to read the plaque by the road. Seeing this on the map, I drove out to the spot to investigate the site further. Found the historical markers o erg roan by blackberries and then found the memorial to number 7. Very clever.
Found during a one-week roadtrip, caching around Mt Buffalo and surrounds.
While heading from Harrietville back to Bright this higher-terrain roadside cache caught my eye.
As it turned out, a 35m elevation climb it was, and slippery underfoot with morning dew about after dodging blackberries. It sure deserves this terrain rating !
I found the cache at the battered #7, but no traces of the Dibbins' final resting places.
Thanks, sarrett. I love this bushland.

After a great lunch at the Bright Brewery, It was time to pick up Day's repaired car. We then decided to gradually make our way to tonight's campsite in Smoko, picking up a few caches along the way. Around the lunch table, we pinpointed this one for the interesting history on the cache page. We found the cache quite quickly, but unable to spot the graves.

For one reason or another this one has been on a few of my bookmark lists. It is an interesting little cache that is close by to a place that I really love visiting, so it's always been a kind of "must do" cache. Finally today I was driving along the road with little to do than find a camp spot and enjoy a beer.
So we made a little time for the short trip up.
Of course we found the cache. We looked around but couldn't find any nearby evidence of the graves, which was a pity.
A very sad story indeed, but not one that is unique to this family at this time unfortunately.
Thanks for the cache and for the information sarrett.....

Found well into the dark, cemeteries are always best then right?
We parked at the suggested coordinates and read the nearby sign before heading up the hill carefully picking a path to avoid the blackberries which were in abundance. Once at GZ the cache was very obvious, with logbook signed we scouted around for any sign of the cemetery but failed to find any trace.
Thanks

Today was a sort of rest day after our climb to Feathertop yesterday. It was spent finding a few caches in the Bright area.
WE read the various signs we encountered about this sad storey.
The walk up the hill lead us to the cache, although the blackberries and thorns took their toll on us.
We didn't really see any evidence of the actual cemetery which might be a bit higher up I guess, unless it's completely overgrown.
Thanks for placing this cache sarrett

Long weekend brings us to Bright... This weekend is going to be really REALLY pour weather (did you see what I did there??), so we had alot of opportunities to get out driving in the 4WD in the hills around..
On the way back to Bright this arvo, I took a chance on the quiet kids to quickly (or so I thought) grab this cache...
So I put on hubby's fluro orange HUGE MASSIVE waterproof jacket... and a Fishing hat (you know those broad brimmed, keep the sun off everwhere types??), bet I was looking a treat for all the cars passing by on the road...
Set off following the animal trails and found a way up, remember its been raining for 3 days straight by this stage.... One foot here, one foot there.... On my knee here, on my butt there.... Covered in mud and trees and pooh and whatever else may have been lying around... I made my way to GZ and made a quick find.. There are a few signs around that tell a bit of the history of the place.. Well worth the read...
Then it was time to head back to the car.... I could see it... it was just over there.... So I headed that way... WRONG! Doubled back and headed down again until i found a track... This wasn't the way I came up but it was heading the right way, until I got to the edge.... Rightio... I backed out of that. A few steps sideways and I was on the right path... Holding onto trees, roots, grass and anything else I could find. I made it safely to the bottom with enough mud on my rump to plant a veggie patch!!
Thanks Sarrett for this adventure!!!

At the last moment, I received time off of work in order to head over to do the High Voltage 101 power trail and spend time 4WDing in the amazing and wonderful Victorian high country
GPS, thewhitedoggang and Princess Consuela were my travelling companions and great company they were, too [^]
All up, over 6 days, 161 caches were found with only 2 DNFs (one of which we later realised was already disabled )
Also, during our High Voltage experience, I hit my 8,000th cache find
In this day and age, it is unusual for children to die yet not so long ago, it was common...how lucky are we to live now!
Thanks for bringing us to this spot and reminding us that life really isn't so difficult! [^]

Just don't know how the pioneers managed to deal with the deaths of their children. Can not imagine losing five children!! Rest in peace little ones and know that Geocachers will visit you.
Travelled from SA to do some High Country trails with The White Dog Gang, Princess Consuela and Locus Cache. We all had a great time.

In glorious sunshine, this is one of a wide variety of caches we found while out and about with Liz and Bruce. We started at Myrtleford, travelled up the Ovens Valley as far as Smoko, stopping by the river for lunch and visiting a number of lookouts with spectacular views. A solemn reminder of hard times in days gone by.
Thanks to sarrett for the hunt.

We were able to find this cache while out exploring the area around Bright with Phetlern. A glorious sunny day displayed the area to its best though an Autumn visit is something we would like to do. Nice one. Thanks to sarrett for placing this cache.
Really sad story and after a 12 km ride bit of a tough climb but great cache - thanks for bringing us up here!
Nice steep climb, to introduce some new 'cacher friends to our game. Sad story, but these mountains would be full of such hardships in those days.
Thanks to sarrett for bringing us here.
Deserves a fav. from us and we tend to give them sparingly.

Going through some of my geocaching notepads today because I have a tendency to not log caches and found a heap of them so sorry for the late log!
In the area doing a few other caches when we stopped by this one.
Interestingly sad cache and it does make you wonder about how hard they had it back in their day with children dying so young and having loose 5 children I can only imagine the heartbreak!

Catching up with some caching logs after travelling O/S. Found this with BILY58 before the Bright Alpine Climb (4 days 4 mountains around Bright) Great to read about the history behind this cache. The walk up on dusk provided the local insects to feast on us!! TNTL TFTC
Love these type of caches, a quick 200 metre walk to GZ.

Found this sad site on the way home from annual Hotham snow adventure.
Once again caching shows up an interesting bit of history!

3545. Found by baby&Mrs gopher at 1340. Tnx for the parking information made it easy to get the vehicle safely away from traffic. Scrambled our way uphill to SL and give a favourite point Tnx sarrett
Did the recon work on this for parking on the way home from the snow. Today we found the cache. Had a hike of about 200m with a geokid on my back. Was looking around them spotted the unusual bush object. Cache log signed and I was very happy. Tftc
[:(!] What better way of spending the day but to do a bit of caching and this was one of them, parked the geocar as close as possible to GZ and walked in from there, on arrival at GZ , the cache was located, it was in hand in a matter of minutes.
I love it
