We were travelling from the south, and made the mistake of turning into the road signposted "Ohakea". Soon realised we weren't going to get much further and backtracked and took the correct road.

#3749. I have actually landed at Ohakea. Was on a United flight from LAX to AKL, and got diverted because it was foggy. Dunno why we didn't go down to CHC. We landed early on a Sunday morning. Took the air force boys a while to get into gear, and a while to get enough fuel on to a 747. The pilot announced we had landed at O-Ha-Keeeeeey-a. Was fun trying to explain to some American fellow-passengers where we had landed (quite close to Bulls).
Cache was an easy find once we got onto the right road.

Yeah found, but alas no coin, sorry I5BADSS. Glad you enjoyed the airshow. TFTC J 'N' K.
Contents of cache very wet but the log is fine inside the film canister. A quick find which is just as well given we were due in Wellington an hour ago. Took geocoin. Happy Easter TFTC

Heading home after the Ohakea air show to commemorate the 75th birthday of the RNZAF. Thought I would drop off Spread the fevere GC here and see if KIWIH3 end up grabbing it as team KIWIH3 go past here twice a day. TNLSSL TFTC
Passing by so had a look in. All OK, though a little damp.
Might leave some TBs here for this Saturdays Airshow

Found by the Etherlord Family during a very wet road trip to from Palmerston North to Wanganui. Thanks for the Cache, and also the personal story behind the cache . Mrs Etherlord and I am about to place a similar one
A great quick find in a quiet location, apart from the haymakers in the field next door. Trip had an air of 007 as we wondered if a khaki jeep might come flying down the road, as we must've looked a bit suss, climbing all around the outcrop. lol

Forgot to log this - found it on 23rd August while visiting my Mum in Manawatu - wondered while no smiley on the map - nice cache and nice reason for placing it
Found this one during a nice drive north on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. It's nice to do a few caches out of Wellington for a change.
It took a little while to locate this one so thumbs up to the hide and the camo- it makes it all the more satisfying when your eyes see it and then your brain realises "that's it!". Felt a little nervous with the hint of security in the area, but no problems. Thanks.

Had the place to ourselves, so were able to have a very good look with nothing to be found. I see it was done yesterday .... ?
Thanks for the history.
Thanks for the history.
As you say not many places to hide the cache. I have returned it to a higher position so its off the ground but well hidden as it had got wet in all the rain. Dried it off but log was fine. really enjoyed reading the history of Ohakea. Thanks for showing us something new about New Zealand.
Flying visit on the way north. Have only been to Ohakea twice: at age four for an open day during which I in got to have my photo taken in a fighter plane; and again a few years ago on a work trip.
What a lovely history behind a cache placement [8)]. A quick find on a lovely winter day whilst in the area for work. TFTC and the history lesson J 'N' K.
Indeed - reminiscing is about all one can do these days about the fighter wing. Was in Darwin recently and it was impressive to see them regularly flying jet patrols with the nearby threats. Cheers Gav [9390]
Once I sorted out how to get GZ without going thru security. Cache found quickly. TFTC
We must be getting better at this. The kids found it while i was still getting out of the car.
Thanks
Thanks
All quiet here today, but we did get to see a couple of helicopters. Thank you for the history of Ohakea, most interesting.
Our first find while travelling through the Manawatu. Also got a glimpse of one of the new NZRAF helicopters. TNLNSL TFTC
Hey JNK... TFTC... and the lovely memories. Spent some time explaining to Jnr kiwiav8a OUR history. Cheers
I'm still a serving member but of the RAAF and have spent most of my time working on Orions.
Was lucky to see a NZ Orion doing the bump and goes today and even got some photo's.
Thanks for bringing us here.

4.22pm. Nicely camouflaged cache and nice to have success after DNF at 3 Dog Nite across SH1. TFTC
Nice easy find after waiting for several air force people out jogging to head down the road. TFTC
A road I have never travelled before. Thanks for the cache & bringing me here.
Quick find this time. Last time I didn't even attempt to search as too much muggle activity around further along the road. TNLNSL TFTC. Cache dry and secure.
No loop road here anymore - well and truly locked out!
Had to wait out a lunchtime jogger before returning the cache.

The Freezer Mice strike again!!!
En-route to Palmerston North for a short afternoon trip, just enough time to stop in here along the way and grab this cache.

We are staying on base for xmas. The kids are loving it. The prize was only a short stroll out of a side gate. Thanks
Nice easy find for my 7 year old and me. Nice quiet spot too. Took a rubber band, left a medal.
First of a relaxing wander around the Bulls area. Quick find, dropped off Across the Sea geocoin. TFTC.
Roads changed since my last drive here. Could see man standing by main gate along road. TFTC
A quick find on a short rest break on the way north this morning. Great day and not a soul around, so an easy find and replace. Signed log, TFTC!
Interesting information on cache page. A quick find on the way home from the orienteering. TFTC
Interesting to be able to drive at the Air force base. A helicopter was landing so that was the action for the day. Nice spot. Just as we left, air security passed us and gave us a wave. Thanks J 'N' K.
Thanks for the reminisce. I served here as a civvie Controller for a couple of years. Good times.

Thanks for sharing your reminessence of Ohakea, for us too this trip will be worth remembering, a stormy return trip from Whakatane to Palmerston North, including snow on the Desert road!! First time Mrs Geckoh has seen snow in the North Island, and first time the 2 dogs (Buster and Blaff) experienced snow.
Thanks for the cache and of course another .......
Base of Tree was covered with water but cache was just high enough.

This one brought back memories of the Bulls Bridge Collapse nearby also in the 70's....T4TC
5th find of 7 today. Nice camo but was full of water after recent flooding. Log was nice and dry as was in a seprate container. Signed log, left signature trade item then replaced off the ground. TFTC
Quickly in hand, have been here many times working on base.
