After finding that (despite some misinformation I'd recieved) I still couldn't get into the Orroral valley, and too late in the day to plan out an alternative trek, I consoled myself with a little climb up Fitz's Hill. Collected a couple of caches here and enjoyed the gorgeous view in the evening light!

Thank you!

This was a warm-up before heading down Boboyan Road to grab some caches now Namadgi is partially reopened. Luckily the hill provides quite a warm-up - it seemed remarkably steep first thing in the morning. Big views from both Fitz's 5000th and then at the top for Fitz's Fun.

Cache took a little while to find, it was in fact out in the open 10m north of the coords (see pic), but still closed an undamaged... no idea how it got there. Log signed, and cache returned to its proper GZ.

Thanks, tankengine - a great view from a hill I'd never really considered before.

**This Cache**
A steady climb to the top of the knoll taking approximately 45 min return walk of ust 2.4 km. We had our lunch close to GZ admiring the views and a few sheep that were roaming about. Some were shaun and other had their full winter fleece and probably the lucky ones with today's very cool temperatures. Good views. Quick and easy find. TFTC Tankengine.

**Our Day**
We decided to do just a few short easy but adventurous walks today to save enough energy for our indoor rock climbing training and 'test' late afternoon to gain our biannual belay passes.

The first walk was down Smith Road collecting two caches. For these we walked a total of 2 kms with a total ascent/descent of 100m. We had good views over the Murrumbidgee. The second walk was up top of Fitz's Hill for some good views back over Mt Tennent and down towards the Nass Valley. This was a 2..4 km walk with a total ascent/descent of 160m.

On our way back home we picked up two puzzle caches and a new traditional cache. It was a relatively cold and overcast day and headed home mid afternoon to prepare for our indoor activities where it would be much warmer.

Found with Darksidedan.. Thanks

I decided to visit Orroral Valley today and I took All7 along for the ride. We collected numerous caches around the area. I had my head split open by a swooping magpie, we spotted 5 of the biggest Red Belly Black Snakes I have ever seen. A fantastic day out, I love hiking around this park of the ACT there is always something to see. Thanks for placing this cache. The logbook was signed dsd or darksidedan or darkside.

Last cache of the day. Thanks for the view and the cache was in great condition

Had planned a big ride in the hills but with a last minute to the schedule, decided to keep it closer to the road. Still, a good hike up and great views back towards but not to Canberra. TNLNSL TFTC

I have noticed these two caches up this hill for awhile and today I drove out to find them. Not as hard a walk as I expected and a great view from the top. TFTC Tankengine.

#1712 I parked at the gate. Walked up the track from the other fitzy cache to this cache. Quick find. Signed log and replaced as found. Thanks Tankengine.

Great views. TFTC Cool

The sheep we saw on the way up to this cache reminded me of the expression 'mutton dressed up as lamb' and I explained it to TikvaNZ while we walked. I wonder if the expression will survive the politically correct era? TikvaNZ introduced me to an expression too - 'rats and mice' (or was it 'mice and rats'?) to refer to little pockets of caches that are out of the way a bit and hard to include in a caching circuit. The term seems to have no derogatory connotations. Well, that's enough musing about semantics!

I really enjoyed the views from GZ, and the views on the way back down the hill.

XN SL.

Thanks again Fitzy!

I've driven past these two Fitzy's caches many times now but not had the time to head on up and get them. Today, after completing the Trail of the Damned, ZQX and I still had time available for some more caches - a perfect opportunity, so up we went. A quick find here. Great views. TFTC.

We were rather concerned about the private property issue but decided to go for it anyway. We were definitely puffing once we reached the top. Great views, despite being illegal. Quick find at GZ. Thanks Tankengine Big Grin

What a great spot. Large rocks and great views. TFTC Tankengine.

05-Apr-16
A steep walk, but the views and rocks on top were worth the walk. A pity about all the smoke ruining the view!

Thanks

Decided to spend the morning, which turned out to include some of the afternoon, finding the caches around Nursery Swamp and Rendezvous Creek. Afterwards on the way home did a few drive by caches. Few sheep encountered on the way up the hill. Good views from the rocks on the top. TFTC.

Making my way up Fitzy's Hill with OutRangerous when a guy in a truck stopped going the hill stopped and told us did we realise we were on private property. He mentioned it was private property and the national park was across the road. He gave us permission to continue the walk. Another few hundred meters and the cache was in hand. Great views. TFTC

10-Mar-16
a great view but not such a 'fun' uphill walk to get there. lots of skinks about.

21-Nov-15
Tough last cache for the day but the views were worth it. Left two geo-kids at the previous cache to wait
for me, signed log and quickly made my way back. Downhill is so much better:-)

Fitz's Hill...a popular run for cyclists with strong hearts and even better brakes! We drove about halfway up before getting chicken and walking (only to find out the car could've done it comfortably!). Great little stroll nonetheless, which was rewarded by some breathtaking views. Fave point added. TFTC Tankengine.

A Canberra Bushwalking Club trip. We threw in Fitzs Hill for the 2 caches up there then, from the Brandy Flat Walking Track car park, went up to the drystone walls for the 2 caches there. We returned via the Billy Range. Trip report at http://www.johnevans.id.au/wp/5-september-2015-fitz-hill-glendale-drystone-walls-and-the-billy-range/ . TFTC.

The view is worth the sweat. TFTC

Once you've found fitzs five thousandth this one is an easy walk!

I am home this week looking after 2 of my daughters who are on school holidays. After watching them do nothing but sit in front of the tv all day yesterday, I decided they needed some exercise and fresh air. So today, they came with me to do some geocaching in southern Namadgi.
This one was the first for the day. It was a little chilly, but we were all warmed up by the time we arrived at the first switch back on our way to this cache. There's nothing like a little ascent to get the blood pumping. Anyway an easy find and a great way to start the day. Wonderful view also. Dropped a geocoin.

Decided to go for a scenic drive and find a couple of caches on the way. Didn't expect to spend over an hour climbing some steep tracks but had a great time doing so. TFTC and some spectacular views.

Hmm, strange idea of fun, but with much grumbling and aching of legs (well for me, at least), Noikmeister, BatgirlandCo and I made the long uphill journey to this cache. Smile
Well it seemed long after a 20km walk earlier in the day!

TFTC!

Fun? What sort of fun is this?? Like my caching cohorts, I have often driven past this site but been either too time-poor or energy-deficient to take the detour. However as our first effort of the day hadn't taken too long so we still had a fair swathe of daylight for outdoor pursuits. That hill hurt however after having already been out for around 18km of Namadgi! And luckilly, there was now another cache to make the effort seem worthwhile.

28-Jul-13
So many times I have driven past her after other adventures and have always been too buggered to be bothered or out of time or dayliight. Today I was still buggered, but had the time and the daylight and willing companions in BatGirl and Doppelfrog.

Awesome views from the top!

27-Jul-13
After leaving Captain Tomato to rest down at the other cache I made why way up further to this cache. Was happy that the track had no corners in it and it was straight for 400 meters or so to the cache. Got to gz and made a quick find. Sat back and enjoyed the view. Over 1000 meters up here TFTC

The second part of this climb was much easier, and I was soon at the top and ready to look for this one. Plenty of rocks to check out and it took way longer than I would have liked. I am glad there was phone coverage up here as I badly needed that spoiler picture. Thanks.

Found on a nice, hot, windy day in Namadgi. A nice but tough walk up the hill. Saw a hawk flying above us and we also had a nice view. Once we got to GZ, the cache found was after a little while of searching. Great view from the top too. Fantastic location. TNLN. TFTC Tankengine!Wink

1194. I headed up here after a successful FTF on the cache down the hill a little, two for the price of one. Arrived at GZ and soon found what I was looking for and then sat down for a bit and admired the great views with a gathering of wallabies sunning themselves on the flat just below. A really pretty part of the world.
Thanks TE for another great spot and the exercise.

I like it! Congrats on 5000 finds!!!

09-Sep-12
5000 + 572 = 5572. Yes my 5000th GC Find !!

When Tankengine first published this Cache I considered that it would be 'Fun' to find this as a Milestone Cache. Well a few went past and it didn't happen - but as 5000 approached I decided that this should be it.

So today Sol de Lune and I headed out to Namadgi with me sitting on 4999. We arrived at the gate and headed on up the hill. Talking about past and future Caches - and avoiding the resident wildlife - we soon found ourselves at GZ. As SDL had found this one already I took a look in the usual suspects places and soon had the cache in hand ! Yah !

I never imagined when I started this hobby that I would go on to find so many (did someone say addicted??). It was appropriate that I chose this cache for my 5000th as I have found more caches by Tankengine that anyone else - Thanks Tankengine !

TNLN - TFTC !!

Cheers....

We headed out later then we had hoped but were keen for some caching and Mr Stormcatcher had been eyeing this one off. We headed up the hill and we raced the sun that was going below the hills. After trekking to the top we enjoyed the sunset views. A great spot. Thanks Tankengine for bringing us here.

Stopped by to grab this one after a campout in the Park. Dropped off a couple of TBs for the next cacher to have something to retrieve after the steep hike.

Happy Anzac day find! What a view
Thanks for taking me there

15-May-11
After a Cub hike at Brayshaws hut we decided to grab a few "easy" caches on the way home. It looks a lot closer to the road on the map, but after some "bribury" for the geokiddies, we made the top. What a great view and we could just make out the start of the Tuggeranong to the north.

Finally!

Have passed by this one on so many occasions, usually on the way back to town after a bush bash, so never in the mood.

Team determined to nail this one, so after doing a few caches down south, spurred to make the grab.

Thanks TE for the cache and lovely views. Not so hard after all!

14-Mar-11
This cache suffers from being on the way to or the way home from a much longer walk. Consequently we have passed it by many times without stopping, because we were heading for a big walk or stuffed after a big walk. Today was the day! Knocked this one off after completing the Lost German Tourist with Sol de Lune, McPhan and Zsazsa7. Thanks Tankengine.

4067. [font=Century Gothic][green]Yep, have passed by this spot many times but hadn't ever noticed the firetrail up to the top. Today was the day for a stop and a bit of training for harder caches. Some good views from the top and a special thanks to SDL for driving stopping and accompanying us to the top even though he'd done it before.

Didn't know this hill was named after my alter ego did you ????? Me neither! Well compared to the caches that lie to the South and West from here, you would almost need to call this a drive-by! However, after walking 10 minutes, I noticed, my distance to cache was still roughly the same. Bugger, should have dragged the proper camera up, the views are magnificent ! Dropped GC

Yes, I expect that the paddocks are private property, but if you keep to the fire trail, then you should be fine! As Norkmeister mentions, TAMS lists it as "TAMS-VACANT (OTHER) - Environment - Unleased"

Found with darkmadviking, Injuryman and Bleeding-Boy(formerly T20.) on the way to Orroral camp ground.
After this cache I was really looking forward to roasted marshmallows on the campfire tonight.[^]Mmmmmmmmm!

This was a good fun cache, and the walk up the hill made it all the more rewarding.

This was one of those where I looked in the right spot and didn't see it (just didn't dig deep enough). Then Jezza10 spied it from a different angle. Dad stood there saying over and over "nah, I can't see it". Then it was "oh, there it is".

I was talking to a ranger the next day and said I'd taken the boys for a walk up this hill, and he said it was actually private property. Is that right??

Thanks TankEngine for a very rewarding hide.

I thoroughly enjoyed the easy walk along the track to the top of the hill where I was greeted by wonderful views and some nice boulders. I enjoyed the new perspective. The views on the way back down were great too as I spied some familiar mountain tops afar.

Thanks Tankengine for showing me this location - very nice..

Dropped off geocoin and trackable

A easy Saturday morning with not much to do, so out for a drive to grab a few caches out this way. Parked at the (road) top of the hill and then followed the trail to the top of the (actual) hill and quickly had the cache in hand.

Great views anyway you looked from here. Another hill climb worth the effort.

Thanks Tankengine..............

Been there, done that, on the Mountain bike, before Geocaching and BEFORE the track was graded. Rode all the way from Tugg too.
Up I go again.

Coooeeee, a *FTF*.

Thought I had better go and get this seeing as it was out my back door so to speak. As I was walking up the track, I remembered when I last rode up here, it was late 1999 and I was giving my new Mountain Bike its first serious climb. I remember the effort well, and then I remember riding and puffing up to the top, turning the bend at the top, and WOW, the views caught my eye then and NOW too. Views unchanged, wonderful again. Didn't see the adjacent stockyards though just over the fence, they seem to have gone.

Smelt the rotten roo, found the cache, then wondered again - has TankEngine come up here and gone looking for a Trig at the top and/or laid a cache up the top. I still had plenty of daylight left, so up to the top I went, scoured around, no Trig, no cache, but, I did get to witness a very colourful sunset with magnificent contrasts. Got some nice pics too.

Then down I went, and as I was at the last hairpin bend on the track, I saw a Black Bunny car pull up. We exchange echoing Coooeeess, then I met them down by the gate, Geomutt and team. (It would have been embarrasing to have been beaten by a Northsider to this cache). I also got to discover a Travel Bug too - a GREAT BIG ONE.

As for Fitz's Fun, my top speed down the North face road is 86km/h on the Mountain bike, that's one big Coooeeeeeee. I have reached 84km/h on the road bike down there, but the road bike being so light and with skinny high pressure tyres is a really bumpy shaky ride, far less stable than the smooth MTB. Cooeee, thanks TankEngine.

Well, I didn’t expect any trigs up here, but still, I wasn’t sure, and just in case – yes I also when up to the top! – Nope, no trigs, and also, no spots quite as nice as the spot where I eventually hid the cache! – So you are all lucky – you don’t have to go all the way up, unless of course you want too!

29-Mar-10
Well we thought that no one else would be crazy enough to attempt this tonight so we thought a bit of evening/night caching was called for. We bounced down south only to find Angle Vale road closed so had to divert our original approach to GZ.

On arriving we spotted not a mountain bike but a P76 parked near the gate and the ascent to GZ. As we prepared for our trek to the summit we could hear a distant Cooooeeee echo across the hills and answered mtbikeroz in kind. We meet at the gate and exchanged pleasantries before we headed up.

We enjoyed the views and sunset on the walk to GZ but muttered about what a sadist this Fitz bloke was to call this trek fun, but oh well there is a cache up there somewhere.

We got to GZ at 2000 as the sun was well and truly gone and made the cache retrieval by torch light to SL and enjoy what was left of the view and lights of Canberra.

thanks for the cache Tankengine.
