Logs
Thanks for find, eventually found it. Log and plastic bag very wet and horrible. Replaced log with piece of paper so could sign
While in the Taranaki area this week, we are trying to find the last few caches we need to qualify for the 174 East challenge. We spent a lot of time looking at various hint objects in the undergrowth here but to no avail, so had to give up and move on. Thanks for bringing us here though, what interesting / sad history.
With Gap (of Fap and Gap)…
Auckland Anniversary: We’ve escaped the atrocious weather that has smashed the top of the North Island. Hopefully things won’t be as rough down the country. We’re hoping Taranaki will have enough sunshine and blue skies for our visit…
Once more, our iPhone gps proved to be a headache. Readings bounced around and we lost so much time chasing shadows. I wandered aimlessly, but Gap focused on an area that seemed to have been recently searched. Without success, he was on the verge of giving up when I joined him. I persisted a little more and found the well concealed cache. Thanks G-2, Gunsmoke and Nicholas Edmunds. TFTC.

Took quiet a bit of hunting. It is still there. Under a log. Takes some clearing. Small black plastic jar type container.
Yes it is still under the end of the log, we have cleared a few weeds away. Cheers
Yep the cache had disappeared so have put another back in the same spot - a small black container.
Found an old log but no cache gz very overgrown
But what a spectacular view. Took photos of course to prove i was there, and i will post Once I am home again which included a wood pigeon that flew over us and settled on a branch just ahead.

gps found the hint but alas overgrowen long grass and all searched and searched but no luck nice hot day and a nice drive in the country side made up for it.
Out in random places to find as many geocaches as possible. Never knew this was here! Third find of the day. #174. TFTC.
We parked at Pratts Sap and walked up to this one. Great views of the river from up here. Nice little bush walk included. Got this one tagged now. Cheers
Day 11- Monday 23 December. Around New Plymouth today with an event at Pukekura Park to top the day off.
The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and I are spending Christmas exploring Taranaki via geocaching. Its been an amazing 3 week adventure. Rattls BBQ was a great event, meeting many other cachers. But also managed to fit in a few more events, especially New Years Day celebrating the start of 2020. Lots of caches - over 500. Lots of cache maintenance. Lots and lots of kilometers. And lots of amazing places visited along our journey. Mt Taranaki remained elusive for much of our travels and the caches on it at the top. Loved Pukekura Park Night Lights Show and the the Wooden Mechanical toy exhibition at NP Info centre.

Taybeedragon and I walked up from Pratt's sap. Should have walked down to it, there is excellent parking here. But no parking waypoint, so we didn't know. A nice stroll through the kauri (those kauri are a long way south! Are they native or were they planted here?) then to the cache. Darn near stepped on the cache, missed it by 5mm, buried under the long grass. Great view over the river!
Gets a favourite for the history. nicely done.
Day eleven of Taybeedragon's and my big 3 week circumnavicaching trip around Mt Taranaki, starting from Palmerston North. Today is wandering about New Plymouth
Highlights:
* 3 weeks, 536 caches
* Mt Taranaki had been removed for washing, which was a bit of a shame. Even after it had been returned we were only allowed to see it for it was less than half an hour a day.
* High percentage of caches with crappy coordinates
* Amazing Pukekura Park
* AMAZING Pukekura Park light show!
* Pukeiti Gardens
* Lots of cache maintenance!

Planning for the [NZ Mega 2020](http://nzmega.com) event is well underway. It will be held in Auckland over Labour Weekend, 23 to 26 October 2020. It's going to be a massive celebration of geocaching:
* 20 years of geocaching worldwide.
* 20 years since New Zealand had the very first geocache hidden outside of USA.
* And it's 2020 - all the 20s!
Talk to your geo-friends and start planning to be part of [this event](https://coord.info/GC87777) - you won't want to miss it!

I had to look up the history of this site since my interest was piqued by the cache page. How sad. Today the site is so beautiful and peaceful, but places like serve to remind us how costly our freedoms really are. Thank you for pointing out this piece o NZ History that I otherwise would not have known about.
18/08/19 16:45 Another great site I’m thrilled that geocaching has brought me to. I took the time to study the site, respectfully to those who lived and died here. The river view is amazing, tempered with the knowledge of what took place. Thanks for placing this. Cheers, GC.
Grandparents with Asha11, Sophie 8, Cooper 6. Our first day caching. Thank you for your effort.
Thank you for sharing this history with us. Quite a cliff and neat hiding spot
Had planned to grab 5 geocaches in New Plymouth today to bring my March total up to 100 for one of the Wiarapa challenges but since work finished up early and there was plenty of time for the journey home I looked for a route that took me passed a few rural caches off the main highway circuit.
Pleasant little walk into this one. My first thought was that it might be missing, but then I checking the previous log entries and I have to give thanks to Mr D as I was echoing Mrs D's short sightedness.
Cheers

What a truly amazing place. Awe inspiring. We were here doing the First Taranaki Land Wars multi waypoints, so went and saw the 1860 rifle parapets as well as the older site. Mrs D was flummoxed, but Mr D pointed out that the hide site has two ends... Thanks for the experience.
TFTC and what an absolute beautiful place, would have never thought to come here if it wasn’t for the cache, thanks again.
Great views but apalling history.
Would be good to have a picnic table. Followed the geotrail.

Oh G--2 you do get around, can I not escape your fiendish hides anywhere? As it turns out this hide is delightfully conventional - perhaps in line with Picasso's Rose Period, so actually not terrifically hard to find. The view from the bluff is simply stunning, even today in a rare for Dec 2017 rainy day. All good here and thanks for the cache.
What an amazing spot & view. Thanks so much for bringing us to this gem of a place. Awesome history lesson. Tftc
quick find many sets of eyes looking dragged the extended family out to check out this pa and battle site just incredible the horrific things that took place here in 1820s. Very graphic account on the web site a hard read but eye opening, not for the fainthearted .
Such a cool hide. Very interesting history around this area and the view is unbelievable! TFTC.
came for this one for the multi the other day, not realizing there was a cache here as well, its a nice day for a drive lol,tftc
What great place for a cache, kids loved tramping through the pa and learning the history. Found my first travel bug so I hope I get this right
Found with Trayc.g, logging now as I have my own account. TFTC My mum loves this location and often talks about this find.
Great spot well deserving of a favourite, dropped tb.
Mission accomplished, this one is a wrap. Thanks for the cache from Blenheim Bear

Stopped by here on the way to Wellington and was not disappointed. I was able to find the cache quickly which gave me some time to view the spectacular landscape. Another great place Geocaching had taken me to enjoy! TFTH.
