Hi team lemmings,

This cache appears to be in need of owner intervention. I'm temporarily disabling it, only to discourage people from visiting this location until this cache may be addressed.

**Please note that caches disabled during the current COVID19 crisis you will be given some extra time to react as we recognise that CO's can't just pop out and fix the issue,** geocache maintenance can wait. Once the acute threat of pandemic is over, I will remind you about your cache needing attention.

Should you feel it safe for you to maintain and address this cache now, AND your regional Health and Governmental authorities allow it, please feel free to do so. However, I would like to assure you I will not be archiving any caches which the cache owner does not currently feel safe to maintain.

I'll pass by in about another 45 days and hopefully this will all be over.

[font=Comic Sans MS]Hi there team lemmings. We found your cache "TAA Flight 538" at 11:00:00 AM today.
This was our 3rd cache find in a caching run of 9 Finds & 0 DNFs today. (So this now makes our find count 9691.)
[Blue]
Today's cache run was primarily to add to our current streak of "Most Consecutive Days" cached, (which has been going since New Years Day 2014.) Our "next closest" route took us to some wonderful & scenic locations.

The cache was an easy find. Thanksfor the history lesson today.[/Blue]
Coordinate Accuracy: Excellent. (We found the cache around 2m from where the GPS said we should be looking.)
Cache Condition: Container and log book are in good shape.
Took: Nothing.
Left: Smiley Badge
Thanks for the hunt today,
Regards
Ian & Penny.

Arrived into Mackay just before midnight and decided to grab this cache on my way to the Motel. This cache has been on my to do list for sometime, as I remember reading about this air disaster many, many years ago. At the GZ, quickly solved the quiz and walked the short distance to the cache's hiding location. Cache discovered at 0025 hours. TFTC Team Lemmings. TNLN SL {#317}.

Isn't it funny how geocaching brings you to spots that you have heard about, but didn't really know where they were ? Smile

Having worked in the aviation industry for just shy of 30 years, I know the history of the accident, but never thought I would find a memorial to commemorate the lives lost Smile
Nice to see so many flowers placed here.
Somebody obviously still remembers [^]

As a 'Virgin Airlines' B738 glided overhead on approach to Mackay, I set about finding where GZ was.
A short stroll got me to GZ and I soon found the well hidden cache Smile

Found at 5:06 PM GAFF1. We are quit sure that in 2009 we did a cache relating to this incident, but we cannot find any reference to it at all.
We have done a few caches relating to air crash disasters and most of them were during the 2nd WW training exercises.
Thanks team lemmings.

After reading this cache description I had done a little more reading of articles associated with this crash.
A very sad story indeed.
At waypoint one we were able to gather the appropriate information. With the maths completed we had a set of coordinates and were off.
Identified the cache GZ and located the cache easily enough.
Be mindful, as someone has placed a dead 'Joe Blake' beside the cache site and it does give you a startle.
We left nothing but took Beverly the little red car.
Thanks for this more interesting historical cache Team Lemmings.

This cache stirs many memories. I heard about it while at a northern boarding school and later amongst the drama that developed during the following days discovered that a friend had been on board. Fifty years seems like yesterday.

12-Aug-10
Getting to the park where the memorial is situated, was a slight challenge as the park is rather out of the way. But it was well worth the drive. Found the memorial. There are still lots of fresh floral wreaths placed by families and descendants in memory of this tragedy. The clues were easy to work out and the hiding place of the cache was obvious when I arrived at GZ. There was no one around at GZ so signing the log and replacing the cache was a breeze. T.N.L.N. Thank You Team Lemmings for placing this cache enabling me to discover another piece of Australian and Mackay history.

01-Aug-10
A very sad story at this site although good to recognise it. There was obviously, and not surprisingly, lots of signs of a 50th commemoration at the site. Cache was found easily thanks Team Lemmings.

By coincidence the last finder was Wandering Aus who I did bump into near Alice Springs a year ago!

26-Jul-10
WanderingAus wandered by on day 76 of our annual Climatic Refugee trip, on a night run after dropping the WanderingMrs (aka SWMBO) at the Glenella Dance Hall for four hours or so of line dancing. A quick bit of math by headlamp light and a short walk and I made a very quick and easy GAFF 1 find.

My find No 2784, LCC, TNLNSL, dropped my WanderingAus Happy New Year 2008 Gold GC in for a visit before grabbing it back again.

*Recommended* *Overall Experience: 3*

We stopped by this site to see a heap of wreaths lying around the monument. Reading the plaque made us realise this occurred just over 50 years ago. We also read some of the cards, and its good to see those who died are still well and truely in the memories of those who loved them. Easy calculations, and find at 1330hrs.

Cheers
Bundy

Found it with Rominfree and LittleBowerBird (who got the calculations wrong the first time)!!

Interesting site......read some of the cards left there, very sad and tragic loss of life.
