Was here shearing sheep and thought I’d just look and see if there was any a caches nearby.
Beautiful spot to be working!!

What a lovely spot. If I still had my campervan I'd willingly stop the night here. Toilets with soap and towels even.
Easy find of the cache but contents all damp and mushy.
I added a spare waterproof log paper which I signed, placed in a fresh ziplock bag and added to the sodden stuff in this cache. Good to go again.

Planning to attend an event at Pahiatua this evening so decided to do some of the backcountry road as I had the afternoon off. Quick find however the log was completely sodden hence the photo. A quiet here although it’s apparently going to be busy tonight with a bonfire event when all the locals turn up. Thanks Skindo for the smiley.

A diversion off the main highway here, nice hide but very wet today.

It's International Earthcaching weekend and I am 'bach' so have a free rein on what's optional, ding dong. I have had a plan for a while to knock off my remaining 52 on SH52 caches and that seemed viable, via Castlepoint for an EC. However, just South of Pongaroa the road is missing, so a new route home was needed and Rimu Road came up trumps. Quite a few skindo caches were found, and much enjoyment was had, cheers all COs. Almost 70 finds for the day, Ad Labs included, so all was good.

Day 2 Cache 25 today, but 68 all up for my mad mission to the Wairarapa for the 100-10-7 Challenge. Ethness has offered to drive again today. A big skindo day planned – a first for me.
Very quiet in the Domain today no international golf tournaments - probably due to the drizzle. Container full of water. Emptied and log just writeable. TFTC.

Team TECATS (TwigNZ, Etherlord Clan and the Seagnoid) are on yet another raid into the Wairarapa, seeking elusive Skindo caches and any others we happen to pass by.
Ably assisted today by SkyCraneKid (EC Jnr), we travelled over from Palmy to concentrate on a very windy southerly jaunt from Paihiatua towards Tinui, before turning West to Alfredton and the relative ease of SH2 back to Palmy. A lot of these roads are ones I have never travelled before, but we had a fantastic day for it so it was great to explore new Valleys and Peaks.

The find here was easy enough but then we encountered an interesting new development (for me at least). I am used to Sistema containers, and have been frustrated many times in the past by water ingress. This was one of the 'new' type of Sistema, and boy was it a bugger to prise open! I hope that is a sign that their ability to rebuff the elements is much improved, but lets just say I'm glad I don't have arthritis! We signed the log for ourselves and replaced what we found where we found it.

Thanks for placing this cache Smile

John, Tom, Thomas, and BenjaminThomas are on another bi-monthly assault on SkindoLand looking for alluring archived listings.
Our plan today is to start at Pahiatua, cache our way over to Makuri, down to Alfredton, and then back to Palmerston North in time for Mr Newman to provide Mr Seagnoid with inter-city transportation back to the capital. We completed this plan with 14min to spare, albeit without the traditional stop at an icecream shop...

TwigNZ made the find here, in an obvious spot that our initial cursory glancing search had not revealed.

All logs signed as TECatS - TwigNZ, Etherlord Clan, and the Seagnoid

#6844. I love geocaching in the Wairarapa. And today had to be the most perfect day for caching over here. Never seen the Tararua Ranges look so pristine. Not a cloud in sight all day, clear, calm, sunny, mild conditions and 100 km visibility. Spent the whole day wishing I was up on the tops but enjoying the drive around the back rounds finding caches and listening to old time music on the The Sound. Now into the area I had targeted for todays caching raid. The back roads behind Eketahuna. Any caches with wet or tatty log sheets I added a new log sheet of waterproof paper and sometimes a new plastic bag.

Drove down the side road to the domain. A muggle was cutting up wood nearby and others were driving around the domain on motorbikes. Guess that is how rural people pass their Good Friday holidays. Wandered over to the GZ and soon located the cache. The container was full of water and the logsheets inside were quite wet. Added a fresh log sheet and new plastic bag. Signed the new logbook and replaced the cache as found. Thanks skindo for placing these caches in the back of beyond.

Good to be on the true back roads of NZ Gives you and the car a good work out. Taking half the road home with me as car now brown. Lots of water in the streams after rain over night . Great views over the hills and a few interesting cached. TFTC

what damage was done to this bridge! see photos.
We left fairly early and headed for skindo land - route 52 -or a part of it - making use of the remaining summer's drier conditions etc . We were amazed at the effects of the storm /flooding just over a week ago on the road and surrounding area and the many wash outs slips etc and we took some photos of this which i will log also. despite leaving early we still had only got as far as the waihi falls for lunch as we detoured a little and went for the lovely walk through the small reserve at mangatoro to see the giant trees there. we replaced several caches and log books that were very wet, with water proof paper.
thank you for this series of caches and the happy faces.

Cache well protected by slippery shell covered muggles. Persuaded them to move on then placed a waterproof logsheet after emptying water.

Thanks for another smilie.

Did you know that planning has started for a Mega Event in Wellington in 2018? Check out the details on the [Wellington Event NZ (WENZ) Website](https://sites.google.com/site/wenzgeo2018/home) or visit the event's page on [FaceBook](https://www.facebook.com/groups/590545297801072/).

Thanks to the Cache Owner who has gone to the trouble of creating this cache, determining the coordinates and then averaging them to make sure they are accurate, placing the cache and registering it online for our enjoyment. Without Cache Owners doing their bit, there wouldn't be a fun hobby that we all love - so again a big THANK YOU. For our bit, all we need to do is find and log the cache that was carefully placed for our personal enjoyment. As we log it we should consider that the Cache Owner also needs to maintain it - when the log sheet fills up, they must replace it. When the container becomes full of water, they need to empty it. When the container is broken, they need to repair it. When it goes missing they need to find or replace it. Well..... the great news is we can do our bit too - make sure your log doesn't take an entire page - just a name and date. If full of water, empty and dry the cache as best as possible. Be careful when handling the cache and make sure you replace it where you found it. If it has a bag, seal it. Just remember - the Cache Owner showed respect to you by placing the cache - please respect them and fellow cachers that follow you by being careful with the cache. And if you have a spare log sheet and the cache you are at needs one, please leave it behind. Finally, if the cache does need maintenance, please let the Cache Owner know - you can log a Maintenance Log or you can drop a line to the Cache Owner. Above all - have fun and remember the Geocaching Code.

This is the prime mover for today's excursion. It seems that this is the nearest cache to Wellington hidden on 8th April. This is only important if one is filling in the 'Date Hidden' grid on Project-GC. Together with a couple of other finds today, specifically chosen for the purpose, this completes my grid. Maybe it's time for a challenge cache....

I'd found the cache, in a field, in the middle of nowhere. There wasn't a soul about. As I signed the log I looked up to find myself suddenly surrounded by about 150 sheep that had been shepherded into the field by a farmer. He wasn't bothered by my presence, but came over for a chat. We exchanged pleasantries for a few moments before I made my way back to the car and he headed off with his three dogs to...somewhere.

TFTC, +FP for taking me somewhere more remote than I can ever remember being.

A lovely spot to have lunch in the shade of the trees. The toilets have running water, electric light and toilet paper in the toilets - most important.

31-Jul-16
Off into the Wairarapa today for a little expedition with edvern - Pahiatua Track, Pahiatua-Pongaroa Rd, Coonoor Rd, Waitahora Rd, Dannevirke and back to Palmerston North. We hoped the forecast wild weather would not be too wild and indeed it was quite a pleasant winter's day for the most part. We were quite happy with our success rate too - 24 out of 26 caches. The other two must be missing!
Interesting to visit the Makuri recreation hub! What an intriguing golf course - plenty of rough for sure. TFTC

Found on a drive through back country Wairarapa. Enjoying the scenery and the company of the geodatums. It looks like this pleasant sports area gets some use in the summer. TFTC skindo.

Operation 997.
After our recent mission to the November snow I realized I was now within 47 caches of 1000. The idea was then conceived to get three under 1000 (997) in order to get cache 1000 in Rarotonga at the end of November or early December. To get these last 44 we headed to Wairarapa (AKA Skindo Land) to pick up mostly park and grabs. The planned route had 49 to allow for DNFs, of which we used four. The mission took longer than expected but it was an interesting day - from getting stuck behind cows and then sheep through to an awesome lunch in Pongaroa - all in nice weather.

Started on the wrong side of the fence before quickly (and correctly for a change) identifying where it would be.

As said in Tommygun9's log below we embarked on a mission to collect 44 caches before our holiday/ honeymoon to Rarotonga. I had a lot of Skindo puzzles sitting solved so I searched out a route to collect the required number of caches- and didn't end up going past a single puzzle cache! (Oh well, looks like another mission will be needed).
Cache #750 for me. TFTC

A day in the country, eating Waiwawapa roads with the XV cache-mow-bill, sun and wind on the face. Nothing better gets this!
We enjoyed our time at the country club. Sneaky hide this one.

mike-miss, funkymunkyzone, vistra and I met early Saturday morning for a two-day-geocaching-trip and once we collected the smallest relocation car available (a green camouflaged Yaris) we were on our way. funkymunkyzone already descripted the route we took in detail and I am still very impressed how he managed mostly the driving without getting lost a single time. Clearly he has his own Topo map in his head Wink. This was a great team effort and I enjoyed the groups spirits and its laughs along the way till the sleep finally got me after the last cache in Taranaki.

In total I collected with the "Team AMFV" 278 smiles along the way and the word "brace" is no longer foreign to me. I would like to give a big thanks to Skindo and all the other cache owners for all the placements along our tour and hope I don’t annoy too much with the copy and paste logs. TFTC

This cache was found as part of a marathon weekend of geocaching with alpenmilch80, mike-miss and funkymunkyzone - aka "Team AMFV" It was a full on weekend of non-stop caching, mostly on windy gravel Wairarapa roads!

I had flown down to Wellington on Friday, then met up with the others first thing Saturday morning. We loaded up a Toyota Yaris rental car, then slowly made our way back up to Auckland, arriving late on Sunday night! The poor little car certainly got put through a lot!

It was an incredibly long and tiring weekend, but great fun at the same time, with a great group of cachers! All up I found 250 new caches over the weekend and revisited a few that I had found before. Sorry for the copy and paste logs, but the weekend is already a blur! TFTC!!

Headed out on the first flight to Wellington Saturday morning with FMZ and Lostcourse. Relocating a vehicle back to Auckland meant we had a big caching road trip ahead of us...! We headed back through the Wairarapa towards Napier, clocking up the numbers through skindo land. Sorry for the copy/paste log as its now all abit of a blur having cached for 36 hours with only a few short naps in between. Enjoyed the drive through these rough and winding gravel roads and saw alot of interesting sights.

36 hours, 1,200km, & 315 finds made for an epic adventure! Many thanks for the cache and the perfect excuse to make a weekend of it! Big GrinBig Grin

Headed down to Wellington for a fly-down-drive-back-caching weekend with mike-miss and Lostcourse - basically a caching binge drive back to Auckland, caching under the moniker "Team F.M.L." We headed out of Wellington as quickly as possible to get some serious caching done in the Wairarapa and Hawkes Bay before heading back to Auckland. Apologies for the copy/paste log, but we found >310 caches in 36 hours and for many it's hard to remember specific details. We headed through a bunch of interesting winding back roads and saw a lot of beautiful sights and historic spots. We shared the driving and stopped for about an hour to catch some shut eye in Pongaroa before continuing, caching all the way. Saturday was my biggest caching day ever, and this Feb, after just the first 36 hours, is already my biggest month ever. TFTC!!! Big Grin

Took the first flight down to Wellington on Saturday for a fly-down-drive-back-caching weekend with mike-miss and FMZ - basically a caching raid across the North Island.Team FML! for the win! We headed out of Wellington making a beeline for the Wairarapa and Hawkes Bay before venturing back to Auckland. We headed through a bunch of interesting winding back roads and saw a lot of beautiful sights and historic spots that only geocaching could have bought us too. We shared the duties around and took a few micro naps when ever prudent. Saturday was my biggest caching day ever, and this February, is easily my biggest month ever. We made a real meal of this one one by searching the wrong side of the stream for way to long. Eventually we worked out our error and made a quick find on the correct side of things. Cheers for the cache placement!

[green] Popmac rings me up, wanting to do a raid on Skindoland. We bring in super-new cacher Bright_Jun and sneak in under the cover of darkness. We left Palmy at 6am, attacked the natives of Skindoland with a relentless assault lasting 15 hours (including an hour off for tea and crumpets at the Pongaroa Picnic Event), travelling over 450km. We even had spare petrol in the boot, because there were no shops where we went. We defeated over 90 of the little blighters, not even a decimation. I bet the lords of Skindoland won't even notice.
First we drove down this road, then decide the cache was over there, and drove down that road. But there is a river to cross so U turned again and back to the first road. Travelling the last 500m took longer than finding the cache!

Planned a huge day caching. Left at around 6.30 and started heading to pongaroa to the event. 40 caches on the way there then realized we couldnt do the rest we planned or we would be late. So headed a different way. After the Lunch we had another huge list of caches to get but got to pongaroa and petrol station wasnt open, 1 1/2 hours to masterton or 45 mins to pahiatua or dannivirke....hmmm that stuffs that plan up, should have thought about that earlier opps. So headed straight back to dannivirke and missed out a huge chunk of our planned trip. Thanks for a cache owners of all the ones we found along our trip.

A MEGA Adventure

Both Nova Lightning and myself had set ourselves caching targets that we were hoping to meet in time for the NZMEGA in a few weeks. So with a plan in progress and fuel in the tank away we set.
Departed home at 6pm Friday, returned home 3.30pm Monday, 7 hours sleep approx 470 caches and a great adventure.

Thanks to all those that have placed caches especially Skindo as I think we gave his caches a bit of a nudge

Thanks for a great weekend of Caching and Bull.

Mega Weekend

It all started about a month ago when Cats&Dragons brought up the idea of heading down the line to collect 350+ caches. We both had targets that we wanted to meet before attending the NZ Mega. Plans and locations were drawn up and puzzles were begun to be solved. It took me a while to get my head around a few of the puzzles and with the help of a cacher I was soon on a roll.

The weekend finally came and we departed Hamilton at 6pm on a Friday night. 3days, 2,000km, & 11hrs sleep, later 472 caches collected. Thanks to all those who's caches I found especially Skindo with a huge number laid.

A quick find on a long day's caching in the area. Overshot this one at first and then realised where the access was so we turned around and went back. There's a decent sized river in the way if you want to get to it via the most direct route from the main road. Very enjoyable countryside. Signed log, TFTC

FTF! A long drive through beautiful rolling countryside but almost ran over a huge falcon that was feasting on fresh road kill. Just as we came around the bend, we caught the big bird by surprise, and it took to flight, flying in front of us. Our speed matched the bird's and it appear to hover in front of our windscreen. The span of its wings from tip to tip was as wide as the breath of our car. A magnificent sight to behold. The GPS lead us to a quiet recreation reserve where we enjoyed a secluded picnic lunch. This cache has all the boxes ticked, including scenery and picnic tables. A well chosen site. Thanks Skindo for the cache.
