I managed to get to GZ, but I couldn't find the cache. However, I did find another use for tweezers: extracting gorse thorns from my fingers!!
I kept on going up and down hills, being confronted by private land blocking my route towards GZ. Dusk may have defeated me today, but I'll try again at the weekend!
First day on my 2nd visit to the South Island. Came up here with a friend and thought it would be a good spot for a cache. Then as we turned to start heading back down, I saw the cache sitting out in plain sight! We signed the log and put it away, this time a little more hidden. Amazing view!
Found after a hike up the hill with MRos68. Hint had me scratching around in the gorse, best being gloves and /or long sleeves.
75 minutes walk from Newgate Street, testing every bench along the way. What a reward of a view! Box is watertight but inside of bag is wet. TNLN. TFTC. Found with ARos71. P.S. I hate gorse!!
Quick find and a LONG walk! Now all the caches in Picton are completed for us! Amazing view but had to wait for 3 pairs of muggles to leave. TFTH
Found on a beautifully sunny New Years eve walk... log book was too wet to log but I see others have made this comment. A perfect spot for a bit of lunch... stunning! TFTC
We found the cache on our walk through NZ
Thanks for showing the beautiful place.

Found 7:09 pm TFTC No TB in it. The log is wet. Last entry was 24th Nov NZJudy. We're from a cruise ship Voyager of the seas.
Wonderful view. Water in container and log book sodden but the seat was a great place to sit and dry it out a little.
Great view. Cache very wet. Dried out container - possible to write in wet log book if you bring your own pen. Pencil blunt and sharpener too rusty to work so I removed it

Beautiful view built damp cache. Tried to give it 15 minutes in the sun but only helped a little, but a little is better then none TFTC
What an amazing view. Unfortunately I couldnt sign the logsheet cause it was completely weat. So I took a picture instead.tftc
Amazing view! The cache had water in it when I found it, logbook was okay though. I tried to let things dry out in the sun for a bit before I replaced it. Took TB.
Great views and definitely the best seat in the house - not that the single muggle who was sitting on it was going to let us find out. She sat sprawled all over it wither her and her dear. A grunty climb but was probably tougher on the french tourist we chatted to who was pushing her MTB up. TFTC.
We had just done the hike out to the lake and I convinced Chocochunk to go just as far as this cache seeing that it wasn't that far away. The track on my map looked straightforward. That was not the reality, though. After a lot of sweat and grunting the whole way, we made it to GZ. Of course there was a muggle there. Luckily the cache was not at the same spot. Phew! We sure got our workout today! Took TB, and left one. Thanks for the excellent hike and views Stayonmytail!
Muggles around, pretending to stretch after a run up the essons valley side, while simultaneously looking for the cache. Had to wait a while until they left before I could find it.
Sunny beautiful day! !
Sunny beautiful day! !
Beautiful day and cache to kickstart our long fast from geocaching! Thanks for the cache and for the exercise too
You mean I do a 220m vertical ascent and I only get 1.5 stars of terrain? Reckon it should be more.
Anyway, amazing view and definitely worth the walk. Another place I probably wouldn't have visited if not for the cache. A favourite point.

After being unable to do the Esson Valley caches because of the closed tracks, we decided to do some mountaineering instead. As we were already at the Esson Valley end, we went from that side, although it does seem the approach from the other direction is less steep, as we were told by a local lady we met at the top, and maybe faster. It is certainly a spectacular view, and worth the effort of getting there. The cache itself was a quick easy find. TFTC

Great spot! We climbed the hill on this beautifull day before taking the ferry.
Took a bit of crawling to find the cache, wouldn't want to do it on a rainy day!
Dropped a TB.

A good find on the last day of my south island holiday. Good walk up and great view from the seat. First finder this year. SL TFTC
I have done this walk once before and did not plan on doing it again. But thank you for giving me a great reason to do it. The view is so worth it. Found with BeeanTee's. TFTC
Great location, and found pretty quik. Box is letting in a little water, but log was dry. Tftc
Was fortunate to have superb weather for this walk from Newgate St to Essons Valley Road. On the way up watched a tui close up in full song and heard bellbirds too. Wonderful views from the top. The container was wet and the logbook too wet to write on. Dried things out as much as possible and dropped in a temporary piece of paper to write on. Interesting stepping stones over the stream at the end of the walk. Fortunately managed not to fall in. Thanks for placing this cache and enticing us up this track. Recommended!
Went for a walk up today in the rain - was still a brilliant walk but very slippery. First Geocache I've ever found and was fun - tried to log in the book but it was quite damp. Still good fun though. This might be a new hobby.
Came here on an early morning walk after staying in Picton overnight. A quick and energetic tramp up from Esson's Valley. Absolutely the best view I have ever found of Picton! Cache was a quick find. Signed log, TFTC.
A nice peaceful walk in a light, misty rain. That might explain the quiet! The first time I came up here about 4 years ago I thoght it would be a good place for a cache. I'm glad stayonmmytail thought likewise. TFTC
A great tramp up from Essons Valley rewarded us with a magnificent view from GZ - cache in hand - no muggles - no waiting round - too cold today. TNLN. TFTC.
This was one hard slog for Hello Mrs determined to complete another challenge. Much easier for Old Boots. Started at Newgate street and bought honey at the other end. The views were great and we took photos at one of the seats on the way. TFTC
Best seat in town, was also on of my best mornings this week. On the way up I meet a french hicker. After a good yarn he spontaneously decided to come with me and see what geocaching is all about it. He loved geocaching straight away and came with me to the next cache. He will come back to NZ next year and do some more geocach ing with me,should be fun. Thanks for the cache and a wounderful morning.
Would like to add a photo, but don't know how.

Logging from GZ. Certainly worth the time to come up. Was here about 2 years ago with a film canister cache and thought better of it. Good to be back. TFTC.
A great way to start 2011 first cache find for the year. Really nice walk and view on a lovely day. Thanks

We had a very wet day, and whilst Kitty! enjoyed a hot shower and some relaxation drying out some clothes, I decided to jog up this hill in the rain... Prepared for everything except the sun coming out, so a very pleasant surprise to have sunny views at the end of it! Great cache, should get more visitors.
I was very pleased to see that seat! You know its going to be a hard grind when the sign says one hour and the GPS says its less than 500 metres. I think the 1.5 terrain rating is very under stated. Worth it though. TFTC #1664
Certainly a view worth the walk. The flat top of the signpost at the top was perfect to capture a picture of all 12 Eyes using the 'timer' feature, with the view in the background. With all the rain lately it was a slippery and squelchy walk/climb at times, Tip-toeing through a waterfall/ford crossing the path was a highlight for all. Some tired legs this afternoon ... TFTC.
Found it while walking the dog on saturday after the rain had died. Made some photo's of the interislander leaving picton and finished the track. TFTC

Don't leave your camera behind (like we did - had to buy a postcard) on a gorgeous warm and sunny day with no wind.
Glorious day, A bit of a grunt up the hill but rewarded with wonderful view and a first to find!
