Doing a vacation to find year 2000 caches and a few others that caught my eye. Looking for quality. Not quantity. Dropped a few pathtags along the way.
Signing as “MB” to save space on smaller logs. Drive right up to GZ in my rented jeep. Note to all catchers. Never buy a used rental car. I might have used it. Returned the cache to where I found it.
Thanks for hiding and maintaining this cache.

On a cross-country tour with MyBetterHalf and today we are in Idaho. This was the main goal for today. Thought we had a good set of instructions to follow but of course I messed that up. I wrote it down wrong! Do not turn right at waypoint 2. Go straight onto NF1445 like the previous post says!We turn right at #2 and took about an hour to figure out we should’ve gone the other way.. Eventually made it back to waypoint #2 and went on the other road. Things went a lot smoother after that and only had to pass by one or two logging trucks. The road kept getting smaller and smaller but we followed the way points perfectly and when we got to the downed tree we had to walk from there. Didn’t bring the chainsaw with me! Short walk only a quarter mile. Arrived at GZ and found our favorite container type!
We SL RAF Thanks for keeping the oldie alive and TFTC
Took one travel bug but forgot to bring some to leave.

I was in town visiting my brother at University of Idaho when I decided to take the opportunity to visit these old caches.
The last time I was in town was in May, and I made the rounds to find all the oldies I could. These two caches however we're just laughing at me on the map as the access road to Eggcellent was still closed, plus I think there was still a fair bit of snow on the ground. It was tempting to make the find attempt then, but I decided to use my better judgement wait till the next time I was in town.
That time is now.
I was dismayed to hear that the road may be blocked by a tree, I didn't bring my chainsaw so I brought supplies to hike in if needed. I really appreciated the waypoints provided by the previous catcher. It made navigation an absolute breeze. I came on a weekend, so no loggers to speak of and I didn't see a single person on the way up.
I would say that the majority of the road is passable by any vehicle, but it does get a bit narrower and a little more degraded the further up you go. Towards the end the gravel stops and the real fun begins.
I didn't see any wildlife, expect for some tagged catal blocking the road. As soon as they saw me though they ran out of the way.
I kept my eye out for the downed tree, but when I finally came upon it I just had to laugh. It's In a wide spot of the road and you can litterally just go around without touching it. Maybe not in a low sedan but any SUV or larger could do it. I think I came across one or two more trees as well that just received the same treatment.
The dirt "road" was full of pot holes, drainage ditches, and a fair number of big rocks. I like to brage about how many dirt roads I take my Camry on, but this requires something with more ground clearance. I was grinding the undercarriage on my borrowed Highlander. The hybrid function of which came in really handy, I got ~25mpg coming up and down this road.
As I continued the "road" got worse, and worse, I was a bit worried I might miss the cache or make a wrong turn but the GPS took me right to it. The drivable road happens to end abruptly right front of the cache, I hopped out and made the quick find. Basically a park and grab!
On my back I explored some of the forest "roads" that weren't on my map, and thankfully didn't get stuck anywhere. Took some good pictures while I was at it. I finally saw some other humans in quads near the bottom blocking the road at the turn off for the NF-1963.
Thank you Ry Jones for the cache! You get a big favorite point from me.
Found at 1:15 PM.
I for those that use c:geo, copy and paste the personal note below to automatically add the waypoints to the app.

County Rd #1963....left at #1445
Hello from Northern California! Traveling with my hubby, Budzdunwerkin across this beautiful country. We started our journey in Sacramento, CA, drove through the midwest up to Maine, down the Eastern Seaboard, across the south, back west. Stopped home for a few days to catch up with the mail, and restock supplies then off we went, up to Oregon, Washington, now Idaho. This is day #117 on the road, and it has been a blast! This cache was on our list, and with help from previous cachers, we took Rd#1963. Once we got to #1445, we decided to go straight. DO NOT GO STRAIGHT! Once we got back on track, we followed the waypoints and stopped at the downed tree where we walked the rest of the way. Short pleasant hike downhill where we walked straight to the cache. We SL with our team stamp, RAF. Thank you for adding a smiley to our day, maintaining this oldie, and TFTC.

**NOTE:** There is an **ACTIVE logging operation** going on. I purposefully planned to attemt getting to the cache late afternoon, knowing from my days in forestry that loggers start early and are generally out by 3-4PM. I saw a few logging trucks as I drove on the hardstand heading in the opposite direction, so I felt good about my timing. THEN, as I startef up the forest road, two pick-up trucks came ZOOMING by. They know the roads, the conditions and their trucks. I stopped a third driver and asked if they were any other trucks heading down. The last thing I wanted to do was inconvenience someone earning a living. Those folks work hard. He answer was all logging trucks were out and he was the last crew member out.
**First**, big thanks to "[llenseuqm](https://www.geocaching.com/p/?guid=6854e769-0acb-484d-a9e5-0b131ca55149&wid=b8e6baf4-ecc7-4eb2-abf9-14e61e56c8dd&ds=2)" for the WPs. They were very helpful. Also, to assist follow-on cachers, **look for pink ribbons hanging from trees** at the various intersections. The ribbons have been placed to indicate what fork to take and were probably placed by the folks logging. I don't remember seeing any past WP5 though; yet, from there the adventure is pretty straight forward.
**Second**, super thanks to [crs98](https://www.geocaching.com/p/?guid=5746431c-c512-4639-8981-fc4024aa201f) for providing road conditions. crs98's description in dead on.
Although, it appears you can drive to the cache (now is a P&G the spirit from which geocaching evolved ?), after roughly 5.5 hours driving from Ennis, MT, I opted to take the short hike down the old road and dropping down the hillside on a game trail I came across 330 feet abeam GZ.
Cache and contents were in great condition and order.
Disappointing was I didn't see moose or elk ascrs98 did. The only four legged forest dweller I saw was a small heard of free range [black angus](https://www.agdaily.com/livestock/facts-about-black-angus-cattle/). Dang, if that wasn't a lot of rib eye on a hoof, I mean hooves!!
