The road has now been fenced off and I was unable to get to the cache as it was an electric fence.

Found on our 25 day New Zealand South Island holiday.
Apologies for the late log but with little or no internet as we travelled and only super slow WiFi in van parks I decided to log all finds on my return home.

6760. Out for the day geocaching from our base in Kumara to Lake Kaniere. This was cache number nine
of twenty one for the day. An interesting and easy cache not far off the main road. Thanks for the history lesson and for the cache. Rodney and Iris.

I enjoyed reading the additional information in the description and the humour. Great to pick up another of these classic older style caches. TFTC #6649
Thanks to all the owners of the geocaches that we found today on our way to Hokitika and Kaniere Lake. We' ve seen beautiful things!
TFTC and greetings from Belgium.

Found this back on the 15th November but phone died so logging it now. Was a quick find. Remember going to the pub years ago
Found with Mapper Ted. An interesting little detour into past history, thanks. Like the title
Heading out to cache for the day with my little geobuddies Coco and Milo and Nosynel of course.
Was just about to step closer to the cache and a weka jumps out with fright. Not sure who was more scard me or it. Lol.

Hair of the Dog??? and you put a logbook with a picture of a cat on the front, haha loved it. Easy cache although I did fall into the ditch in front of the cache. The others just laughed!
After driving around in circles and finding some references to dogs we ended up with a fortunate cache find.
Dakotacats found this, I laughed when she ended up in the ditch - it looked funny from the car!!
A quick find. We found our first geocoin yay. We are just finding out what to do with it. TFTC
Quick find. Remember well the days the highway came this way. Nature is taking it back
Ah. That's the bit I should have read more carefully - - - dog-leg to nowhere. After signing the log I was cruising along, tuning the radio - as you do, when I suddenly became aware I was running out of road. You can't be too careful!!!! I reckon I remember the pub. How times have changed. TFTC .
Going from Hokitika to Greymouth today, enjoying the fact that caches point out a few back roads. Thanks.
A car was parked right beside it. But we still managed to retrieve it and put it back without being seen. TFTC.
Two Muggles were sitting in their car eating Pies.Womble Terry went over to the window and told them that the Lights were on,and it was sneakily found signed and quickly put back.TFTH
Just down the road from my grandparents house! Cool history and although smelly beautiful scene!
Had to search a bit for this one as the grass was really long and wet after days of rain. Tftc
Whilst staying at the lovely motorhome camp we went for a stroll to find some nearby caches. Found quickly. TFTC
A quick find on the way to Hokitika today. I'm sure I must have driven along here in the past but the memories are a bit distant. Signed log, TFTC
Nice trip down memory lane as we have often been round this corner when there was no other way to go! TNLN. TFTC.
It felt strange driving along this abandoned road with the white centre line markings. TFTC
It seems like yesterday that the hotel burnt down, I remember it well. Thanks

Im loading all my finds from my Alpha Males (aka GenCuster) logs, where he deigned to remember that I was with him... As if he could forget...10/01/13 15:30

took a nice detour to this one, and visited a well-disguised hole on the way between cache and car TFTC!!
10/01/13 15:30 Think the terrain rating should be higher as I thought I'd have to resort to rescue equipment after HM disappeared down a grass covered hole between park & grab JC Cache Dawg scoffed as he'd have leapt it. Cheers, GC.

Cache soon in hand with the help of the hint. Met by two local four legged muggles who seemed to be out for a walk on their own TFTC.
Interesting history, and also to consider that this used to be the main road. On our way back to Christchurch. TFTC
ZH & Blondie invade NZ 2012!

Last time a campervan was parked direct in front of GZ. So had to come back today. Well, with that amount of rain even a campervan would not have stopped us! TFTC
Oh No! Our holiday is drawing to a close. Day 18 and travelling from Hokitika to Greymouth today. Again no rain but a little overcast. Still nipping around in our little Corolla, Geo Hire Car with Flags flying - Getting noticed everywhere we go. lol....
Checked out of our accommodation and before leaving town decided to pick up a few local caches as we headed off.
Well no drinks here today! But we managed to find the cache.
Noticed after picking up a cache opposite that there was a farm worker nearby after we left so lucky we werent muggled at this one too it would seem.

Set farmer Rolly on is way again. No better place for him than to be amongst beautiful farm land during calving time!
No dogs, no hairs, just a cache on a sad lonely old bit of road. A quick stop and hunt and the smiley was mine. Thanks
Just getting to log West coast caches - only managed to do a few as other on holiday with me not so keen. This one wasn't a good choice as bit hard to turn the caravan on the dead end road so no more caches for me that day.
Interesting preserving of the old bridge and area - tftc

Down in Hoki today, so dropped by to fix this one up. Dried off, replaced logbook, and moved a few metres to a slightly higher spot.
Thanks for helping us to pass an idle day around Hokitika, waiting for the one day Coast to Coast race tomorrow.
Cache contents are very wet.
Cache contents are very wet.
Easy find although mobile took us on 2.5km trip that should have been 500m - wet log
Found end of last year but due to unforseen circumstances never logged it on here.
I remember the cache being extremely wet, as it was just after recent flooding, as this area was under water.
Logbook was wet then too.

Found it, it's a bit wet, so didn't write in the book. Might go out and replace the notebook next time I'm going past.
Found!! Very Wet!! Tried to write name in without much success - cool piece of history TFTC
Another very wet log. It seems to be a bit of a problem with most caches round Hokitika.TFTC
Not knowing this road at all I couldnt figure out the reason for the cache while we were there sitting here now reading the cache notes and logs it makes sense!!!! good - one explained lol It was a quick find and we did drive to the dead end just to have a look - signed log thanks for the cache
Had picked early on that it looked like an old roadway but never knew the story till going to grab the cache thanks for bringing us here TFTC
Nice quick driveby, and had a lovely view of the pink peaks of the mountain under the light of the set sun. Cheers Gav [9531]
The road certainly is going to nowhere and the cache is in the middle of nowhere.TFTC.
It is hard to believe that this was once a busy spot. It is amazing the effect a small road change can make. Thanks.
On our Pounamu search we thaught to reach an interesting beach spot through this road but only found a (not even green) box - at least. TFTC!
Yet another random vehicle gone up and down here for the cache - not too many other travellers though! TNLN thanks
