9.10am. Decided to archive and leave the site for someone else to use. Cache has had a five year life and probably run its course.

Clearly the gardener has changed things a little. Will look and see if there is a better location for the cache or whether it needs archiving.

Staying with family for Xmas and went for a walk in the drizzle to keep excited children in check. Had a very thorough search in bushes but no luck. Flax looks like it has been trimmed recently, so maybe gardener moved it? Better luck next time.
Found with EthBru, a young family from UK, new to geocaching. They had family nearby with a painting of the old store my grandfather had owned in 1914 so was delighted to be invited for a cuppa. I love combining my hobbies of caching and family history. Thanks for the cache and the opportunity to meet new people.

Second visit to this cache as we didn't find it first time round and still not fully equipped with roaming geocache app. Thanks tparty for sharing your geocaching experience and help! [:o)]
Kids were bored so we headed out for a quick geocache. Easy find. Got married in this church so fond memories here. We had been here recently for a school trip. Saw a morepork in one of the trees in the grounds. Unfortunately he wasn't around today.
This is my second day in Northland finding caches that might be suitable for a proposed challenge cache.
Another nice bit of history.
Cheers for the cache.

Stayed overnight in paihia. Headed out this morning to return to Auckland via Waipoua Forest and decided to follow the brown sign to the mission. Enjoying the peace and beauty once here then thought bet there's a cache nearby. Ha! 60m away. Quickly found and signed all before the mission opened and the chooks appeared. PINO TFTC
Today the council for the New Zealand Church Missionary Society was here in this special place where our history in New Zealand really begins.
Rev. Samuel Marsden came to Oihi bay at the invitation of Ruatara, although originally he had been invited by Te Pahi, unfortunately Te Pahi was killed by musket shot before Marsden arrived here.
Ruatara and Marsden were close friends, they had met some years before on a ship returning to Australia from England. Ruatara was very ill and close to death and Marsden cared for him throughout the voyage and allowed him to convalesce at his home in Paramatta where Marsden was chaplain to New South Wales.
During this time Marsden learned Te Reo from Ruatara and developed a love for the Maori people. He wanted to come to New Zealand to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with Ruatara's help, but unfortunately the Boyd incident meant that Marsden wasn't able to come sooner. In 1814 Marsden finally had the green light and he came to this special place.
After he preached at Oihi Bay he sought the support of the Church Missionary Society based in England (this society was founded by William Wilberforce and other members of the Clapham sect who worked towards the abolition of slavery in England and also established the RSPCA!) and had more CMS missionaries sent to New Zealand.
I was in the area to celebrate the signing of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and participate in a congress for Christian leaders. Today the NZCMS Council trekked around the area visiting places of importance to the Society, and to New Zealand.
The men appointed to establish the Waimate Mission were the Rev. W. Yate and the lay members of the CMS, Messrs. R. Davis, G. Clarke and J. Hamlin. They worked very hard in this area so it was great to be able to see where they lived and ministered among Maori

Took us a while but with some perseverance we made the find. Dont have to jump the fence just need long arms.
2nd time in a week that we have met geocachers that are on their first day of the game. Despite massive amounts of grass clippings the cache was not covered by them and was eventually found. TFTC
We had given up when some more experienced members turned up and put us out of our misery and shared some of their knowledge - a positive end thanks guys

Didn't find it. We suppose it's covered with recent gras clipping. Marie & Carsten
Took a short while to locate as I wasnt sure which side I had to be on. Figured out that I didn't need to jump the fence after all. Awesome place.
Found orginally as part of phasevisitor team, now created own account, re-logging as yorkshirekiwi83.
We were visiting family in Whangarei, together with HOLE-IN-ONE2 from the UK. Decided to go for a day trip up North. GPS was a bit out here, but found the cache by following the hint. A nice historic spot here, thanks for the cache!

Slight diversion on the way to Hokianga to see and show the family this significant historical piece on New Zealand history. Truly an amazing and beautiful spot to come to, tah nks for placing this cache here.
Changed coordinates confused me a little bit, but finally mission accomplished.. I like that church.

A couple of Aussies based in Paihia to spend a few days around the Bay of Islands area. Everything was a bit wet this morning, which actually made the area look even more attractive. The camo on the cache is great - sure we saw a number of 'fakes' before the real thing.
TNLN . . . SL . . Thanks for the hunt Just Floundering.

Out and about around the Bay of Islands area. This was a must stop on the itinerary. Took a bit of tooing and froing to locate cache, but we found it in the end. Lovely spot, had a wander and look around while we were here. SL. TFTC.
There was a wedding going on when we arrived. You needed to pay topdollar to take a look inside. hmm not for us. So we just picked up the cache and TB and moved on.
someone is throwing grass clipping where the cache is hidden. great spot for a cache though
No flax near the coords.... no 500 ml container that we could see either. Check?
Coordinates changed from:
S 35° 18.949 E 173° 52.515

S 35° 18.949 E 173° 52.510
Distance from original: 24.7 feet or 7.5 meters.
Due to recent gardening cache needed replacing. Moved slightly west. New co-ordinates S35 18.949 E173 52.510. Now a 500ml camo coloured plastic container. Added a geocoin.

We had been meaning to visit this building for a while and finally took the time and the Historic Trusts membership to drop by. Very interesting and charming. The cache may have gone as it certainly wasn't obvious or easy, or we could just be having another day of DNFs.
My worst caching day in terms of DNFs - this was the second of seven! Enjoyed the historic location. There has been a lot of painting and clearing around where my GPS zeroed out at a point which could match the hint. This may need checking.
A quick easy find on my way to Okaihau on a beautiful winter's day....

Good to see Butterfly Lady's name in the log a few days ahead of mine. Got some great photos of this old mission church and grounds. And had a good chat to the rostered 'caretaker' for the day.
Good to see another cache here in this historic site. Always enjoy detouring to visit here. Left GC

Interesting piece of N.Z. history with all the historic buildings & cemetery. The Mission House is having a 'face lift' so will return sometime to see it in its glory. TFTC
Never visited this historic site before - thanks for the reason to do so now. Very well-kept grounds, with the many large trees providing welcome shade on a hot day.

4794 Mrs YuGeo remembered visiting the Mission House on a school trip a very long time ago. It’s always nice to return to these historic spots, TFTC.
Very strraight forward find on a cold Sunday morning. A few at church, but no-one close enough to disturb us. Left a small frog, and took TB to move along. TFTC
Enjoyed the drive from Kerikeri via back roads and gobstopped to find two other motorhomes plus cars parked up and the occupants enjoying some NZ history. It's winter after all. All, including us, were fleeing from the chilly South!! No problem finding the cache but we had to be sneaky with so many muggles afoot. TFTC
