A group of eager cachers decided to brave the chilly morning and venture up Booroomba Rocks. All caches we found were signed as Ice Breakers due to the thin layers of ice covering all the puddles and how entertaining they are to drop and smash on the nearby rocks. The weather warmed up throughout the day and made for a beautiful day out in the sun. I've come to enjoy these group ventures as you always get to know people better and create some great friendships along the way. It was a tough slog getting to this cache as the 'trail' marked on the maps appeared to be almost non-existent. My guess is, after the fires ravaged this area the new flora grew extremely densely ensuring any remnants of the paths could no longer be identified. The black ice encountered on the way made this hike even tougher, but we made it in the end, and the views were incredible making the trek worth it. Thank you 2 Leg Drive for the cache!
It was quite a bit of a wander from the previous caches to reach this golden oldie.According to the geocaching trails map there *should* be a trail straight to this cache, and at some points there certainly were. For other points, the only trail was the recently trampled foliage from the people in the front of the group! Regardless, we managed to navigate the thick bush to find ourselves at a much clearer slab of granite. From there it was some easy walking to the cache, with a large amount of rockpools along the way to implement our team name. The cache was soon uncovered by pantspeople in great condition. Sweet.A bit of a rest stop taken here before tackling the nearby mystery which proved to be rather challenging! Thanks for keeping this cache alive 2 Leg Drive!
**This Cache:**I cant believe it has taken me so many years to finally nab ACTs 4th oldest cache! This was the second main goal for me today, and it was such a great walk! We came across some black ice not long after we turned off the main track on the downhill granite section which we had to be careful of, then came the scrub bash, before finally some nice open walking along the granite once again! Thankfully there was a track marked on our maps the entire way. Even if it didnt exist in some parts, it helped us take the easiest route! Upon reaching GZ the cache was quickly located in great condition! Such a great spot, thanks for bringing us here. **Today:**The Ice Breakers tackle Booroomba! The group consisted of Myself, panstpeople, Scaphoid, DeadThief, Turtle284, EthisEthat, Googlehihihi, C10A + two extras. We started the day by taking two trips in DeadThiefs 4WD, as we quickly discovered the Booroomba Rocks access road is not suitable for any other vehicles! Our main target was the archived multi Temple of Nature, as well as one of Canberras oldest caches & some high terrain scrambles down the cliff! It was a hugely successful day, 10km of walking and all the main targets were conquered, only missed a couple on the way back! Got out of Namadgi before sunset too! Thanks to all the COs
Signed as pantspeople. Cracking spot so thanks for bringing us here. Accompanied by Loci612, Googlehihihi and his Dad, C10A and her friend, Scaphoid, DeadThief Turtle284 and EthisEthat. Spotted from about 5m away. All in good nick and cache is securely and safely tucked away. Thanks 2 Leg Drive for the old hide and view. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------In the spirit of reconciliation we would like to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of country on which we geocache throughout Australia and their long lasting, and ongoing connections to land, sea and community. We (the pants people) pay our respects to Traditional Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
#4921 Three years ago we were forced to turn back and head home when a chilling storm hit us out of the blue.Today was a complete turnaround and the weather could not have been more suitable. Our group navigated through the thick foliage before finding the openness of the granite slabs. An amazing area with scattered rock pools along the way.We did split up and approach from different angles but met up where it all mattered and signed off as the icebreakers. Thanks 2 Leg Drive for placing this cache all those years ago. Great to tick off another oldie.
Found with Icebreakers - As GHHH said it was an adventure, trek and bush bashing!Signed as Icebreakers, to reflect the cool morning, consisting of pantspeople, Loci612, Googlehihihi + his Dad, C10A and her friend, Scaphoid, DeadThief, Turtle284 and EthisEthat.*I am grateful to Geocache on this land, which has been cared for by the Ngunnawal ancestors (ACT) for generations. I promise to respect this land and its people, to celebrate together, and to learn from one another. I will care for the land as the Ngunnawal ancestors have always done.*
Amazing spot for a cache but it was a strenuous trek with ICEBREAKERS and an amazing container. We lost the track a few times and got spilt up but we still made it. TFTC
Found on a perfect Autumn day exploring the area. New log book signed. What an amazing location, a favourite for sure. TFTC
It's been a long time of wanting to do the Booroomba rocks walk, and make it to the 2001 at the top. Today was the day, and nicer weather you couldn't have asked for. It was a pleasant enough walk up in the shadows of the mornings cloud, which lifted for a beautiful sunny day.The wildflowers were lovely and carpeted the area, and it's a beautiful area to visit. The fire damage still very evident but I'm very pleased to have finally got here to enjoy it.While here, GreyHams and I stopped for a few other caches. It's good to find these and the views were amazing once up the top. It's such a stunning location, thanks for your cache! This was our target cache, the last 2001 we had left to find in the ACT. For the most part the walk was without issue. There is a track, as faint as it is through the thick growth of flowers but its not challenging. Once out and onto the slabs, it's easy going, aided by rock cairns to guide us along. So great to make it here and have the cache found. Great views and from the nearby slab, the views way down to the carpark showed just how far up we walked!
On a day trip to finally, at last, claim the only remaining 2001 cache in the ACT.It looked a bit rainy at my place but Aquilus1 & I decided to press on and try our luck. In the end the weather was really beautiful.A lot of steps, a lot of elevation, some bush bashing but a lot of satisfied 'we found the trail' action. We found this cache, and a few others. Thanks for placing. AT LAST!!!! I hurt my knee getting up here, but I think it was worth it
Was in a Booroomba kinda mood, so dragged an old mate up with an eye to picking up as many caches as possible on a glorious Saturday arvo.
Of all the incredible rock formations in Booroomba’s backyard, this is my favourite spot of all. The smooth rocks are absolutely spectacular! As are the 360 degree views, not to mention the little ant cars almost directly below. Pretty sure this my first find of a cache placed all the way back in 2001 so that’s also rather exciting…thanks for the cache and the incredible views!

Found with Booroomba Bash (BB or JBB) consisting of me, albida33, AngelG27, FurfacesLL, Joolay, Kittykatch and sebass19. Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic! I was so excited to nab this old goldie 2001 cache, it was definitely the highlight of my day. The views were outstanding (the iconic landmarks of Canberra looked so small and insignificant from up here) and the sense of achievement to reach the summit. The bush bashing below was a bit of a challenge but the end prize made it worth it. The group has replaced the cache with the CO's permission with a brand new ammo can ready to withstand the next 22 years of this cache's life! TFTC 2LG and thank you for hiding caches all those years ago to kickstart geocaching in our wonderful community!
Members of the Canberra Geocaching Walks group got together to tacklev the caches at Booroomba Rocks. Signed caches as Booroomba Bash (BB). So cool to finally get to the top of Booroomba Peak and to find this cache. It is has been in my sights for a long time. Beautiful day to find it too. Thanks for the hide 2 Leg Drive
Cache 10251 on 11 Jun 2023.
What a beautiful day for a bush walk, and even better to have some caches to aim for. Headed out with KittyKatch, Joolay, Albida, Toyhunters, FurfacesLL, and Sebass to get to Booroomba rocks, my first time. It was a bit of a slog to get up the hill, but the views were amazing! Grabbed a few caches while wandering around at the top, South Canberra Views being the highlight! A wonderful day with and wonderful buddies to cache with!
It was all about the bush bash, up to the junction, then up to a ridge, then down, then more up and then more up to finally make it to GZ. The real path petered out pretty quickly so we just followed our noses. Lots of new undergrowth and hidden rocks to watch out for! At GZ, I found the replacement cache which StarsAlign had hidden. Joolay and the group had carried a replacement ammo can which we replaced in the same spot at the request of the CO. Dropped a couple of path tags, a TB came through for a visit and of course a fav point!
Thanks 2 Leg Drive for this old cache and the fun!

Wow so cool to finally get to this oldie. And the views ??.
The walk here was hard and no real track but kind of follow the red like on the Cachly map and you will get there.
Took a replacement ammo can up for the CO and all good to go again.
Perfect day for my first visit to Booroombra Rocks. Signing as JBB for June Booroombra Bash except for this one where named were added.
Thanks for getting me out and about 2 Leg Drive

Today FFLL no 2 joined albida33, AngelG27, Toy Hunters, Joolay, Kittykatch and sebass19 to grab a few caches around the Booromba Rocks for a bit of fun. We couldn't have asked for better weather for this walk. A cool start and clear blue sky all day as we trekked up the rocky hills and down the rocky dales, stopping when we needed to give the old knees a break, or take in some great vistas. Some of the areas required a bit of a scramble through thick undergrowth, but still worth it. Today we called ourselves the June Booroomba Bash (JBB or BB).
This was one of the target caches for the group today, so when we arrived at GZ, the cache was soon found, and the container swapped out. Thanks 2 Leg Drive for bringing us to this area.

Took another quick stroll up to this area to pick up this one. Such a beautiful spot, I am trying to stretch them out one at a time around this area. This was an easy find, after a short 15 minute bush bash over the ridge. FYI future cachers, there isn't much of a 'trail' here. A few cairns along the way, but no visible foot pad. Cache was an easy find and greeted with a beautiful view. TFTC!
This cache was found today and brings our overall cache find tally to 12217.
In 2008 I came up to Booroomba with FarmerFrentzen to introduce him to geocaching but after climbing up and down around the rocks we decided that we would come back another day and get this one so 15 years later here I am!
I forgot how much of a heart starter it is to get up to the rocks and then the climbing begins. Following the track is pretty easy on the rocks but it’s a lucky dip through the bush but it as around 45 minutes to the top.
Finding the container took a bit and I had to resort to checking out the gallery to make sure I was looking in the right spot. Sure enough it was in a spot I’d previously checked. This one gets a favourite point just for the views!
Thanks 2 Leg Drive for the cache.

Decided to give Baroomba a go today. Found this with SA, Contesta and MB. I've been here caching many times with different cachers, however this is my first since becoming SocialClimber. TFTC
The Wednesday bushwalkers today explored the rock slabs and high points of the Booroomba Rocks plateau. This was my first visit to Booroomba Rocks since the bushfires of two summers ago and I was shocked at the extent of the bushfire damage. The bushwalk provided the opportunity to seek out this geocache which was a straightforward find, being in a spot obvious to geocachers on the coordinates. Thank you 2 Leg Drive for installing and maintaining this cache.
Found while spending a few days around Canberra to get some finds for my Ausmer/Jasmer. This was one of them.
Turned off the track to head up to the highest point where GZ was located. After a bit of scrub-bashing and rock-scrambling got to that highest point only to realise there was another highest point. After a bit more scrub-bashing and rock-scrambling actually reached GZ.
Amazing views up here! Had been cloudy on the way up but the sun came out when I was at the top, was still windy though.
Made the find without too much trouble.
This cache alone was worth the trip to Canberra.
Awarding a favourite point.

A big thank-you to the recent finders and for their maintenance efforts.
A big shout out to Geo hack, StarsAlign,Mountainsbeyond and contesta for the efforts to get to the cache, placing a new container and log and dragging the soggy mess back to me. So pleased to see it back in my hands.
I managed to dry out the log and pry the pages apart. Most of it is still very readable with a bit of bleed through towards the back.
Some interesting stories in there. especially the fire finder tb.
I will post pictures of all 18 pages. a few pictures per log.
Great to see this cache live for another day and hopefully no more fires.

Great job Nigel!
The log book was very wet and slimy when Mountainsbeyond dragged it out of its hiding place. I’m really impressed that you were able to salvage so many memories from the historic pages .
I actually enjoyed reading through the logs.
Many Thx Nigel

A big caching day around Booroomba with Contesta, StarsAlign + GeoPartner. A long walk in along Booroomba Rd from the locked gate at the carpark on Apollo Rd - Booroomba Rd is closed because the bridge over the second creek crossing was washed out in the floods. This adds a a nice few km as a warmup (and later, a cooldown) walk!
Up the Booroomba Rocks trail to the expansive, big sky views at the top, we then walked around, below and beyond the rocks picking up all the caches we could.
Great company and fantastic weather made for a very enjoyable day out.
As geo-hack mentioned the cache container was soaking wet, as were its contents (which were, perplexingly, still there - even the vegan cookbook - see pic!). The ever-prepared Contesta produced a bespoke replacement cache container and log which was rehidden as per the hint. We've taken the old cache container and all the contents out for disposal.
Thanks, 2 Leg Drive - love these slabs! Favourite for the placement on these big-sky slabs.

**This Cache**
Expecting to find nothing at GZ Mountainsbeyond located the broken container and its sodden contents. We found that none of the contents were salvageable and it should not be left on site to pollute the environment despite being a good weight. (1.25 kg - weighed on return home).
We had contacted the CO the previous day and he was happy for us to replace the cache given the most recent maintenance log. Contesta set about to replace it was a new container, log and a toy for the next cacher.
The granite platforms in this area are truly impressive and we stood there a while admiring the views and naming many of the distant mountains beyond - tehe
We all look forward to coming back here sometime in the next couple of years. Worth a favourite point for the location. From here we headed off to Booroomba's Beautiful Butt. TFTC 2 Leg Drive.
**Our Day**
At 9.00 hours, on a beautiful sunny warm Autumn day, Contesta, Mountainsbeyond and his partner, GeoPartner (to all) and I headed out from the lower Booroomba carpark locked gate. Then, upwards on the dirt road to the upper Booroomba carpark for a brief pit-stop, then on-track to the very top of the mountain and beyond (Lol - mountainsbeyond)!
We were undertaking a planned day hike around Booroomba Rocks that would end up taking 8 hours for a distance of 14.05 kms with 786m of ascent/descent. My moving average was just 2.4km, and not unexpected, given the slow off-track, with careful walking between and around granite shards, burnt fallen trees and branches and thick undergrowth.
The devastation from the 2020 fires is obvious and the low regrowth varied and just gorgeous between the granite rocks and shards in some locations. While the sun shone brightly and warm the cold winds up around the very exposed massive baron rock platforms of 'South Canberra Views' had us reaching for our wind cheaters.
The only fauna I saw today was a small brown wallaby , a tiny lizard and many large suspended spiders all while scrub-bashing. There was plenty of water flowing in the streams and creeks, and on rock platforms making them slippery and dangerous so much so that we were unable to retrieve one cache despite being 3m above from GZ.
Our key target caches, in the following order, were:
1. 'Booroomba Central' - container damaged, cache replaced
2. 'Jamming the Line' - in perfect condition despite fire devastation all around
3. 'Just a Saturday Stroll' - retrieval not possible, too wet & slippery therefore too dangerous
4. 'South Canberra Views' - container damaged & full of water, cache replaced
5. 'Booroomba"s Beautiful Butt' - container burnt/melted, cache replaced
6. 'King Kong' - in perfect condition despite fire devastation around, safely hidden in a rock gorilla's butt!
Both Contesta & mountainsbeyond replaced/fixed caches found today.
A fun and at times challenging hike, with wonderful company on another perfect day in paradise. Now for a good rest, having for the first time in a long time, tired feet. Now to get ready for my first COVID jab in the morning. See you all on the other side!

Grateful thanks for placing and maintaining so many great caches to entertain me on my journey.

This summit has been on my TODO list for over a decade, since seeing the inviting slabs from afar around late 2009. Today our trio went up Booroomba to check out the fire damage, views and explore around the top. After checking out the lookout and the summit on top of the North Buttress, we headed over. The peak was a lot more visible from all the fire damage, many of the trees were burned out & hadn't recovered. It didn't take too long to make it across the burned saddle, then to the low angled slabs. A quick scramble got us to the top of the slab & it was easy to the top from there.
After admiring views over Canberra, Mt Tennent, Deadmans Hill, Bimberi, Gingera & Split Rock, we made for GZ for a quick find. The old, melted cache was plastic rubbish. The newer replacement cache had no signs of fire damage. Unfortunately the log book was absolutely saturated and unusable (ditto the vegan cookery paperback, which has remained unswapped for yeeeears). We couldn't sign, but did bag up the old cache container and drag it out as rubbish.
We exited by heading east, checking out more slabs and finding some rock pools. From there our descent was off track, heading down near a creek line to arrive at the Dr Slaughter boulder. From there it was a quick trip back to Honeysuckle Campground. TFTC!

What a fantastic spot I wonder why actual trails to Deadmans Hill haven't been developed? Not that I mind a bit of pushing through shrubs and getting my cheeks whipped with twigs, and I certainly enjoyed having the entire place to myself. Incredibly windy, confounded my attempts to shoot time-lapse footage.
With the weather now cool enough for me to comfortably wear proper bush-bashing kit, I made a return to Boroomba to try for some of the harder-to-reach caches.
And, well, I made this one harder for myself than need be; having previously concluded that there was not, actually, a walking track *leading* to this tor, I opted to head up the Boroomba rocks track until due east of it, then head straight up the hill. And the cliff, as it turned out. It was a mistake, but after some serious carnage amid the foliage, and very precarious rock scrambling, I made it to the top.
And it was absolutely lovely up there! Once I'd found the cache, I stayed a while longer in the afternoon sun, just relaxing in the lovely solitude.
On the return, I took a much easier route, still bushbashing but followings trail markers left by some helpful traveller - this came out near the clearing at the rocks, from where I could take the walking track back to the carpark.
Thanks for leading me to this place!

Found with Lpud who was here last week and decided it was something I needed to see. He was right, it was a really good hike in that I thoroughly enjoyed and views at the top are nothing short of spectacular. Gets a favourite from me. TFTC
After intending on doing this cache for a long time, and having recently acquired a 4wd i discussed with LPUD and it was decided that we would make the trek out here to complete on of the oldest in order to continue the work toward the oldest cache challenge.
After a false start in which we missed a turn driving down here (there was also one on the path) we began around lunch time today and followed the trail up, A bit of settled snow on the way made for a good sight
Once had seen the view and retrieved the details for the nearby earth cache we turned off on to the side path and missed the cairn indicating the correct path to GZ, realizing about 50m down the track and back tracking we located the second turn and began our way across toward the cache.
Beautiful views the majority of the way, even if conditions were sub-optimal, we soon reached the summit/GZ and located the cache - Cheer's and the view were both drunk in.
Definitely worth the effort to reach, Thanks for the cache 2 Leg Drive

Napalm237, described our journey very well.
This was epic for a lot of reasons, but really reinforced my enjoyment and passion, as to why i cache.
This took us to areas with fantastic vista's, snow covered mossy rocks and even a almost friendly Rock Wallaby.
We both thoroughly enjoyed the hike in and were blown away, by the stunning views at GZ.
The inclement weather, was an added ingredient, that really put the icing on the cake for such a great adventure.
gets a BIG favorite from me!!

Before leaving the peak, we just had to come and give this a try! Both a 2001 and a walk with a view, we made our way over from what had become muggle central. Taking in the new sights looking to the south we found the cache safe and sound. Explored the granite top before heading out. TFTC!!!!
Although definitely worth doing in and of its own right, we were especially keen to collect this cache because it completed the old school challenge for us. The track, although indistinct in places, was easy enough to follow, especially with all the cairns marking the way over the rocks. Stunning views, awesome granite, and not too much bush-bashing! We enjoyed the serenity at the top, and spent some time reading through all the old logs. Definitely a memorable cache and we're very happy to finally have our names added to the logbook. Brilliant cache - what caching is all about for us! Thanks 2 Leg Drive
ound on a Canberra Bushwalking Club trip with JohnnyBoy ACT and one muggle. Nice views though bit of scrub to negotiate coming up from the north west side. TFTC.
A full day of caching, starting with a great trek of about 5hrs around Booroomba Rocks with ZQX and TikvaNZ, followed by some additional caches in the afternoon requiring my mountain bike. In all, 9 caches, completing four Canberra Toughest Challenge caches, a 2001 cache, some puzzles, some trads and some Waypoints for another cache. Beautiful day for it, but a tiring one by the end.
ZQX and TikvaNZ had already collected this cache, but were happy to trek to GZ with me. I needed this to accrue my 2001 caches for the ACT Old School Challenge. Didn't take long to find and sign the cache. Magnificant views, as to be expected, with layers of fog in distant valleys. TFTC 2 Leg Drive

An Easter Sunday treasure hunt with a difference. What a magical place! Just stunning views, geology, and fascinating fresh water ponds with frogs, all atop giant granite tors. Came over from the rather busy Booroomba rocks via SH 1372 and SH 1396. A little bit of a bush bash, but cunningly placed cairns guide your pathway. We enjoyed in solitude a little picnic at the top, a good explore, and an admire of four wedge-tailed eagles. I found the leaving of the previous cache box, melted and battered by the bushfires a poignant reminder of how ravaged NNP had been, but look how it has bounced back. At home, looked over some photos from Booroomba rocks back in 2006 and 2014, and compared to now, nature is amazing. TFTC. Gets a favourite from me.
Found with TikvaNZ on an overcast morning. This was the second of six for me for the trip.
I've only been to Cairns once in my life, but today I felt like I was there again. Not because of the weather or the latitude, but because of all the cairns. They were quite useful.
Finding this means I'm only one cache away from qualifying for Old School Challenge. I think I've found the five ACT caches from 2001 that I need. Just one more from 2002 to grab.
At GZ we decided that we would go for Booroomba's Beautiful Butt. I figured it might be a two-hour round trip, but we managed to get back to South Canberra Views in eighty minutes.

Thx 2 Leg Drive!

The second cache find of the day. Found with ZQX on a morning expedition to grab as many of the Booroomba Rocks caches as we could before any bad weather came in. We were right up in the clouds to start with, but they lifted enough for some photos. I enjoyed wandering over the rocks getting to GZ. A quick find once we arrived. This completes the qualifications for The Old School Challenge cache. TFTC.

After doing cache crowning glory a few days ago I decided i had to come back to do this one,
jamming and vertical in one hit,or try to.So after completing both vertical and Jamming I bush bashed off the well beaten track until I found a rock cairn, then another, then another until they virtually led me all the way to the cache. Brilliant, whoever did that I thank, it made the trip up to the cache alot easier. The views up top were spectacular and well worth the short hike up to cache. Happy New year:-) TFTC.

Last time we went to come down hear they were re grading the road so it was closed to cars and we did not have the spare time to walk the extra 3km each way. Today we knew our trip would be cut short again with after noon storms predicted and when we arrived in the parking area the rain started up and we thought we might have to fore go the two lower caches T4.5 but with the weather holding we completed those and the nearby ones to final head for this old one. We missed the start of the track from near the rocks but soon came across the cairns. The start of the track is S35 33.477, E148 59.532 by the small cut stump. Plenty of markers are various points with some over ground parts. Great views from up top and great to see an original looking container. We completed the signing duties and re hid. TFTC
A Canberra Bushwalking Club walk to Booroomba Rocks and the trip leader kindly allowed me some caching opportunities. Trip report at http://www.johnevans.id.au/wp/?p=3607 . Easy find. TFTC.
After a change of plans about just how hard a day we needed a trip out to Booroomba was just the ticket with Noikmeister. I know a lot of this area fairly well - even though it is somewhat rusty. But this bit I will admit I didn't know at all. But what a tops area! I suspected there must be a trail heading in the direction we wanted so we headed back up from Jamming the Line until we found the branch in the trail. Following the cairns made the approach to this one pretty easy and I made the find very quickly and was truly rewarded with some spectacular views. Amused to see the older container is still there too.
Third time to this cache for me! This time with a fellow geocacher TienHua and some friends. This is a great spot for a cache, amazing 360 degree views.
I left: Hide, hide, HIDE and Mountain Bushfire Geocoins... which I had held for a while (sorry).
Took: A leopard plastic toy figurine.

This was the final cache for our trip around Booroomba rocks. The rain had created some new (or added to) ecosystems up on the rocks. No bushes here which is great! We made our way quickly to the top and made a quick find. It is great to see an old one like this still kicking on and I hope it brings as much joy to future cachers as it had me. This trip was great. Thank you for the company mr_roo, Captain Tomato, Nemo4 and my dad! A really great trip and finished with a great cache! TFTC 2 Leg Drive!

Another cache found today with Cankid Mr roo and Captain tomato. This one was a bit easier to walk to than the rest of them. Love the views, and thanks
I bush-bashed from the south side to get there, and took an easier path down again. TFTC.
Great views, nice to tick off a really old cache. The cairns sure made getting here easy! It seems that this cache is found by muggles, however all is still fine. Great to see a cache over ten years old still surviving. These bushwalking caches are my favourites!
Cheers

On our day today it was nice and perfect walking weather. At GZ the views were clear and spectacular. To get there it is a matter of just following the cairns. Somebody must have had a cracker of a day to put that many out there! The way back to the car didn't take have as long as the way up.

Found on a foray into Namadgi National Park with Hoojar and Wilbert67.
Another I wanted to get today since it was my oldest unfound ACT cache to find. Bit of a scrub bash at times to get to GZ but on the way back it seemed much easier. Not many finds considering just how long it has been out there. And, of course the views to Canberra, the Brindabellas and beyond were just fantastic! TFTC!

Tougher walk than the two lower Booriomba caches. Follow the cairns and all us good but get off track and IRS rough!
Found this cache a little while back but just logging now. Number three for the day with caching buddies Bruces Run & the Keswick Kid. Awesome views made the tough going well worth it. Found a cool natural water hole that had plenty of frogs at home. After a spot of lunch we decided to try out best to hospitalise ourselves leaving plenty of DNA behind as we decended to the carpark way below. TFTC
Our third for the day, which just kept on getting better! Sharing l unch on top of this view is what public holidays are made for! The decision to just walk straight down to the car had us checking our ambulance cover, collecting a few branches and leaving a bit of skin. All good fun in the name of caching!
Cracker of a location with some awesome views. Stopped and had lunch and then made a bee-line straight from the cache down the east face to the track and outvtobthe car. Now that was hard yakka. TFTC.
I've always wanted to explore this part of Baroomba, and finally an excuse to push our way through the scrub.
We also took the time to sit up and just contemplate the world. Nice and quiet and peaceful on a Wednesday afternoon.
Awesome views from here too and it served as part of Pipedreamer's and Hamster's introduction to Geocaching.

One I shouldnt of done.
After going up to the collimate tower site I tell blackbunny and Just a cacher id be back soon at the carpark. There is a cache only 600 meters away.
I start on the walk up and see that if I go off the track and just go straight to the cache it is shorter.
Well I got to 50 meters away from the cache and just couldnt find a way up to the cache. I keep walking around the rocks bush bashing my way. Finally it opens up a little and I manage to find a way up. Past some snow and I spot where the cache is. A quick sign, yes put Just a cacher and blackbunny in as im sure they will be angry when I get back to the car. I didnt even stop to look at the view. I rushed my way along the top. I finally found the track and ran down it to get back to the car. Yup they were angry and worried I left them for 3 hours waiting! oops shouldnt of done it! TFTC

We walked first to Booroomba Rocks, which were nice but we could see the expanses of granite to the South calling us. I knew the cache was "over there somewhere" from my GPS, but also noted it was a fair way away about 500 metres, which through thick scrub can take a lot of time and scratches. Walking back down the path from Booroomba we saw another "path" going off to the South West, so we decided to give it a go.
As we were finding the trail, we kept noticing that there were little piles of rocks, along the easiest route. Very very helpful, especially as my GPS battery ran out on the return journey. Keep following the rock piles up the closest granite outcrop and over to the other side, through a gully (a bit of scrub, but not too scratchy) and up the other side to a much larger granite outcrop. Really amazing up there, with big ponds in the rock full of tadpoles, we could hear frogs too. Follow the rock piles up to the top where there's a small cairn. We built it up a little more. The cache is just a little further on the other side.
Found it very quickly, great spot for a cache! We noticed as well the melted remains of the previous cache container.
I left a pendant.
Saw snoopy, copper church, torch (not working), rubber snake, cook book (with space shuttle sticker inside), badge, magnets, possum yowie, (I might have forgot some things too). I was tempted to take the corroboree frog geocoin, but left it. Took nothing.

I came direct from King Kong. Unpleasant, the undergrowth was bad and my fitness not much better. I have plenty of cuts and scratches by which to remember this one by for a while. Took a while to find the cache. The views were awesome, which provided sufficient justification and motivation for my fellow walkers. Retrievd 2 TBs. Walked out via the track and with very sore legs.
Found on a nice day walk with mtrax and rbitles. The 7km walk took in this cache, Booroomba's Beautiful Butt and King Kong. Followed the rocks trail up towards Booroomba and picked a spot to bush bash. This section was probably the hardest of the walk with steep ascents, lots of scrub and plenty of granite blobs to circumnavigate. Rbirtles made the grab once at the top and fantastic views and a well deserved rest was taken. When replacing the cache we managed to drag out the old, melted container and have a look, but we left it with its mate. Left Dora the Explorer TB and took a GC.
A great morning walk up here with Norkmeister and Mtrax - took a nice steady climb up to the cache and we were rewarded with fabulous views. Found the cache intact and in good order. Unfortunately this is where I rolled/sprained my ankle and after a bit of a rest and strapping we decided to head towards Booroomba's Beautiful Butt and King Kong. Norkmeister and Mtrax found the molten remains of the original cache and returned it to its' resting place. Many thanks to Norkmeister for allowing me to use one of his walking poles to allow me to not put full weight on my ankle.
Left Pathtag and Tiki Good Luck TB. Photos will be added soon.

Started on this one from Booroomba’s Crowning glory. Thought we would check out what sin the area. Crossed the first ridge but couldn’t make it, too far for today.
Will try this another time, perhaps from Honeysuckle.

Time to push the boys a bit harder. Make them glad to get back to school for a rest.
The under growth is way thicker than I ever remember it. You used to be able to run across from the south buttress carrying ropes.
Just the same it was a great adventure. We started off in sun and when the snow flurries stared to blow in decided it was time to high tail it to a more sheltered location.
I was really pleased to be able to see the famous original container that survived the fires.

We had the thermal gear, we had the wet weather gear, we had the guide (RexTrex), we had the food (yum!), we had the motivation.
It took a while but we did it! The geokids rose to the challenge and powered up the rocky slopes. Very impressive. And it was great to see someone I introduced to caching reach such a milestone. Well done Bewilderbeest!
All in all, a fantastic day with great company and spectacular views.

A very nice view and we had a very nice picnic here. It was a hard walk to get there, because in some places the small plants were way bigger than me !
Thank you thank you!!!
Thank you thank you!!!
It was a pleasure to join Beewilderbeest, Team Bananaphone and Tealby to help celebrate this great 1000th find.
Since its placement eight years ago this cache had only been visited about 25 times - an indication of the extra effort required to get to GZ. That meant I was very impressed with the way the team (and particularly the smaller members who were often out of sight below the scrub level) handled themselves in the bush - great job guys.
The rewards were the wonderful granite rock caps, the spooky ravine, and the great south Canberra views. Thanks team for sharing a great day out in Namadgi and congratulations on reaching 1000.

Hi
Congrats Bewilderbeest on the 1000 finds! A top effort., especially seeing as you started the year with less than 700.
Also another big thanks for making my south Canberra views cache the big one. Thanks..... A really good cache I think.
Have fun and happy hunting for the 2000 mark.

Ah, this was a very enjoyable find. I had great company on this excursion, with RexTrex and Tealby coming along as well as my usual caching companions from 'Team Bananaphone'. With the cache found, we sat down and had a lovely afternoon tea in the dappled sunshine, took a few photos and made a call to Geotalk. Very enjoyable. When we returned the cache to its home, we noticed the original container still in situ, although a little melty around the edges!
It was a great walk up (made a little easier by the guidance of RexTrex), and wonderful views from up top. We were very lucky with the weather today, despite it looking a bit threatening at times, we had a lovely fine, cool day for it.
I had a great time finding my 1000th cache - thanks to the others for hanging back as we neared GZ so that I could make the find, all the better on a cache I've always wanted to do.
Thanks very much 2 Leg Drive

Well this was an adventure today. Came along with Bewilderbeest & family to celebrate his 1000th cache find. Rextrex also came along for the walk, despite not getting another smilie for his troubles. Which is just as well, because he could lead us once we got off the formed trail.
The initial climb was a bit of a struggle for me, having not been 100% recently, plus general lack of fitness, but the rock scrambling & bush bashing was not too hard for me - and fortunately the rocks were not at all slippery.
Enjoyed a snack at GZ while enjoying the views. It was interesting to note that one member in our party was younger than the cache!
L: Donald TB & swapped pathtags
TFTC - and thanks to everyone for their company today - otherwise there is little likelihood of me venturing out this far.
Congratulations to Bewilderbeest too!

South Canberra Views was an unplanned third cache find out here for the day. I had completed Vertical Bushwalking and Jamming the Line, then decided that at less than 700 meters from JTL that I should eyeball it from a nearby hill.
Clambered up the nearest hill and saw that the location was 'just over there' - pity about the valley in between - prickly bushes and tree falls, sigh!
Anyway, shoulders back, head held high, bravely bashes into the scrub and crawls humbly out the other side onto the rock. Enjoyed the find and the views, and seeing the old cache container.
TNLN, all is in good order. TFTC

989 - Until today my oldest unfound ACT cache - so that was the incentive to get up here and find it.
I hope its the last time up the path for a long long time. Cut off to the left at an appropriate spot and after much scrambling arrived at GZ. Its nice to see the old container still there as well as the current one. Took a piccie of Snoopy - what a long time he's been up here - and a survivor as well.
Signed the log - enjoyed the views - looked across at my next destination - and began the careful way back to the carpark.
Great cache - Graet Experience...

I had given this one away on my last visit after almost overdoing it on 'vertical bush walking', today it was scheduled before the 'hard one', and I am glad I made it up here. The rocky bits are good, the prickly bits are not fun. Great view, no wind at GZ today. Interesting to see the old container, it must have been a bad day ! Thanks.

This was a tough walk.
Ended up following the path (from Honeysuckle) all the way til about 500 metres out, then a hard left and followed the (sort of) ridge line. Actually ran into a group of about 10 bushwalkers heading back as I reached the first rocky outcrop. A little conversation followed, but nothing about caching, even with my GPS in plain view, so they weren't cachers I guessed.
After reaching the top of that area, I groaned as the GPS said another 450 metres away, which would make the GZ on the next rocky area/peak. So it was down the small gully, up the other side and then another 150 metres, up of course, and I had the cache in hand.
Only took a minute or two to find as the hint was good to it's word.... .
After the long walk it was great to sit down and add my name to the original log book.
My oldest unfound cache now completed, it was time to head down and start the walk back to the car.
Thanks for a very scenic cache, the views were fantastic, as the attached photo's show.
Took nothing, left a pathtag.

Took a hybrid approach along the trail and then shot off at a tangent.. was tough and needed a bit of a scramble to get ontop of the rock.
Great views of the area and quiet a unique place to visit, brought a friend for the walk. Found the cache and saw the new container and the old contain.. took a picture of the two.
now off to tackle some of the nearby SS-BJC caches.
I'll upload a picture shortly.

It's with considerable regret that I log a DNF for this cache. It's at the top of my "to-do" list, being the oldest cache in Canberra that I'm yet to find.
I got to within about 500m before going cross-country, but the terrain got too difficult. I maybe could have made it if I'd had another hour or two, but I had to give up.
I was VERY lucky not to be bitten by a snake on the way down - when I put my foot down a step, it startled a large brown snake which fled into the undergrowth. If it had decided to defend itself instead of fleeing, it could have bitten me before I even realised it was there [xx(].
*sigh* perhaps another chance will come along another day...

Fantastic 360 degree views from just above the cache location, Thanks McPhan for accompanying me over to this one especially as you have been here before. The bush is a bit thick in places and there is no real track to the area but the views make it all worthwhile. We found a small pond out on top of the rocks with frogs croaking away in it, a promising sign after all of the devastation from the fires and drought.
Back over to baroomba rocks and down again, this was a real journey into this general area and we got three out of four before we were too tired to try for any others, The leg cramps have settled down now BTW.

What a fantastic location! This was cache 3 out of 5 today, with an average terrain rating of almost four, so this one seemed easy. After doing Jamming the Line we traversed from the top of Booroomba across here without much trouble. The regrowth is a bit thick in places, but mostly not hard going especially once you are up on the rocky expanses. This was my favourite for the day, on a very sunny and calm day. I have wanted to do this cache for some time, so pleased to get here today. Had a cup of coffee up here and a bit more lunch, then back to Vertical Bushwalking. Very interesting rock structures here - lots of granite then straight lines of inclusions that look like someone has laid concrete! A great cache, throroughly recommended. Thanks!
540. Originally I was going to do the two at Booroomba rocks but got lost somewhere on the way to Jammin' the Line, so decided that this one would be a better choice and would qualify as one for RDMH. Headed off to it from the lookout at Booroomba rocks and it was easy until we got over the irst crest and had no path to follow and many trees and rocks. Still not as hard as some others in the area.
Finally made it to GZ lathered in perspiration, but had to quickly put our tops on as the wind was very fresh. Found the cache after reading the clue as the GPSr had us 10m NNW from where it was. Left TB and signed log.
Then we decided to bush bash down the mountain. Good fun but it wold have been easier to go back the way we came. Finally made it back to the carpark with thighs like jelly.
TFTC the views and a great workout after a 3 week break.

Found @ 10:20am with SecretSquirrel-BJC. This cache was a "just had to get it" opportunity since we were already at a nearby rock feature and had already attained the right altitude. What an excellent view on such a clear day. On the way back we noticed an odd thing. Just near the summit was a rock pool with LIVE plants and lots of frogs. Truly amazing! Thanks for the cache, with its ever present reminders of the tragic bush fires. TNLN

Of course we had to come and pay homage to this historic firestorm-survivor. The big new cache still holds the melted lid and the Snoopy.
The wind had dropped by this time and we thoroughly enjoyed exploring the top of this crag (er.. cache). The sky was a brilliant deep blue. The sun was shining. The frogs were croaking in the pond. (Hey what????!!!!)
Awesome views - the rain had cleared the air and you could see all over Namadgi. I was amazed at the huge sheets/squares of onionskin granite 2 foot thick.
Thanks 2LegDrive - a great location

Didn't quite follow the path on the way up, so turned out to be quite a day of hiking, great place though, would like to return and explore some more. Great views, and new box!

After a long wait I have been back to visit this cache of mine. For a Maintenace visit to replace the burnt and melted box. More than 4 years from that fateful day.
Hope every new visitor enjoys the new box.

Found it on a wet although not cold afternoon. It is still in usable condition - given what it has been through. I drove to the car park, walked the path then bush-bashed up. How come I strike all the big rock faces on a wet day?
The rain clouds lifted long enough for me to appreciate the excellent views you can enjoy from this cache.

Two and a half years since our last visit to this cache. Nice to be back. Went with friends who will probably log their find soon.
This was the first geocache sought and found by our Troop from the Southwell Scout Group. We had a great (though unseasonably hot) day out, hiking up from our camp at Honeysuckle Creek. This area has specially meaning for our Group, since our Scout Hall in Belconnen was constructed from demountables once used at the Honeysuckle Creek tracking station. The view from the cache site is truly superb, and the rock scrambling required to reach it was a pleasant challenge.
We took Woodstock (some of the Scouts wanted to take Snoopy, but we decided his apparent survival of the 2003 bushfires meant he deserved to be "heritage listed", and left in peace), and left a set of Scout badges identifying our troop.
The Scouts really enjoyed this activity, and are looking forward to visits to other caches in the future.

Decided to come and pay a visit to one very cute (and lonely) SpaceMan 'Snoopy' with one slightly melted helmet. (I assume from the bushfires)
Took a strange metal keyring like object??, and left a padlock.
Took a couple of photos of the scenery, then left, leaving 'Snoopy' to patiently wait until the next adventuring geocacher makes his way up to this high point in the ACT.
NB: The plastic bag holding the logbook, is starting to split, so it would be a idea for the next visitor to bring a replacement.

Great cache with a great view. Was surprised when I got to the top that there was still a ways to go. Bush bashed it to the cache area and could see it 20 metres away (from the clue).
Thought it had been replaced so I didn't bring a new one along. This contents are dry and the spot keeps the rain away, so it is great to keep as a historical reminder of what it has been through with the bush fires.
I decided to rescue the Spaceman TB that has been stuck here for the last 9 months. Didn't do any swaps.
Thanks for the cache.
