Adelaide Trip. May 2021. Day 10. This was the last day of the trip away, and it took me from to Hay to home via Rankin Springs and Cootamundra. I climbed a hill I have been avoiding for years and arrived home with plenty of time to unpack before dark.

This was quite a bit in the middle of nowhere, but I was nice to visit and find this one today.

Thanks for the cache malleechick

Found on our way home from cliffhanger

I decided I needed to go check out Hillston before moving away from the area so today I went for a drive there and back. Almost everything was closed so I wasn't there long.

The best part today was discovering little interesting places like this and the road here. I came from the south on my way to hillston. The road was nicely dried. Looking around and thinking of how it could fill with water made me wonder about that old inland sea, or more accurately, the sea that so much of this country was once under. It also got me wondering about how some organisations and groups are so full on about protecting the native plants when, well, if there was once ocean here, where did the plants come from? They weren't native once upon a time. Haha.

I've always wondered what the black stump meant but never looked it up. Now I am educated in this phenomena. How awful. But how great that this geocache brings us here to tell us this story. Thank you.

I don't normally pick up TBs but I was worried they may be stuck here for a while so freed two I found in the cache. I'll move them on soon. I'll be leaving griffith in a couple of weeks so they can come for a ride to the coast. I better check their goal first of course.

A long weekend brings with it a weekend of camping and caching. fitzy_1965 and I decided to do a loop from Goulburn out to Naranderra, Griffith, Condoblin and back home so I could pick up the last few counties out that way.

Heading from Griffith to Condoblin today. A lovely drive out on the back roads to get to this cache today. A sad story indeed.

21,689. Found with minniek during our October Long Weekend Outback Adventure.

Day 3 of our October Long Weekend Outback NSW trip. After packing up camp we headed off for more caches. This was the next on the list for me. After the fun drive in we made a quick find. We then read about the rather disturbing events that happed here. Life was tough back then.

According to Wikipedia, there is *another* Black Stump monument back in Merriwagga as well which is about 20km's to the NE while Barbara Blaine is apparently buried in Gunbar which is about 20km's to the SW! I guess the monument in Merriwagga is aimed at catching the interest of passer-bys since no one other than cachers will take the time to travel here.

It must have been some dress of hers that caught fire if it rendered her to no more than what her husband described as "a black stump"!

We thought this cache looked a bit out of the way but still easy enough to get to so we did the side trip to do it.
This memorial makes us realise the hardships of them olden days !
Signed logsheet 4:30 pm and replaced all as found.
malleechick - TFTC.
Took the TB that's been here for the past 15 months ! He's going to Melbourne then back to Qld.

[:(!] Went to Griffith via West Wyalong to visit two of my grandchildren and their parents for part of the weekend, picking up a few caches along the way and this was one of them, parked the geocar as close as possible to GZ and walked in from there, on arrival at GZ and the cache was located, it was in hand in a matter of minutes.

Ooops! Forgot to tell you all that a new container has been placed in this location and is full of swaps.

Cache active again.

The cache was in terrible condition and the contents completely soaked. So I have disabled the cache until I cad dry it all out and get a new container.

02-Jul-13
Found while driving from Bendigo to Birdsville via Hay and Bourke at 2050 pm. Container badly broken due to brittleness of the plastic, water infiltrated cache so all damp. Log placed in baggie as well as cache placed in baggie. Many thanks for the cache, a tragic event indeed.

This cache had escaped my radar, as it was just a bit outside my radius for notifications... However I did spot it a week or so ago, and didn't have the chance to go for a drive until now.
And yes, true to form I was again *FTF* on another of Aggysaunt's hides. Smile

This turned out to be one of my favourite types of caches, the out of the way little historical markers that I would probably otherwise never have known about. This one had some local history that I was unaware of as well, so it was a double bonus! After checking out the history, a very short walk and some accurate coordinates made for a quick find.

Thanks for the history lesson aggysaunt! Such interesting local history, and I hadn't heard of it until now.
Took nothing, and Left a Pathtag.
Cheers,
Murf.
