Unfortunately with the rise in gold price, access to here has been closed off for a while.
Only the one cache to find today & the location was fantastic. FP given for that.
We parked at the gate & it was a short stroll to GZ & the lookout over the mine. Lots of information to read here on the history of the mine.
Took a couple of minutes before spotting the cache
Thanks The Johnos for the cache.

On our travels we stopped to grab this cache and wow I am soooo glad we did, what a view, after a while we remember why we were here and found the cache, thank you for bringing us to this amazing place
Travelling with richlink from Perth to Darwin along the west coast and returning to Perth through the centre and the Nullarbor. We drove in with a caravan to a place where we could turn around and walked the 500m to GZ. The cache was found 10m from where our GPS was indicating. TFTC the John's.
Travelling with iluvtrekking up the WA coast to NT and down through the Centre to SA and back home across the Nullabor. After overnighting at Banka Banka Station we are travelling through Tennant Creek to Devils Marbles. Side detour off the highway to visit this location. Bit of a stroll to gz but happy to make the find. Thanks for the hide.
I was in town for a meeting and knowing this would most likely be my last trip to Tennant Creek decided to clean out the town. This was my second and last stop. The drive here was longer than expected and I wasn't able to use the suggested parking spot thanks to being in a work 'town car' which I wasn't allowed to take off the black top.
My early unsuccessful search pattern was based on the T/D rating, eventually I lowered my sights and, about to give up, spotted an out of place rock. Bingo.
Thanks for the cache The Johnos.

Was not so easy to get there cause seems quite busy at the moment. Saw many people there with messure equipment.

We have finally arrived in Tennant Creek on our trip from Brisbane to Darwin. We are taking our time and exploring as much of this incredible landscape as we can.
After setting up camp, and collecting a bit of shopping in town we decided to finish the afternoon with this cache.
We parked the car and walked up to GZ, where we could see across the almighty hole in the ground, some trucks and workers who definitely look like they’re involved in mining.
Clearly something is still going on around here, albeit on the other side of this large abyss.
After reading the history of the area, we went to work searching for the Hide which we found very quickly.
We have added our name to the log and look forward to more adventures in this area.
Last signature in the log book is 20 August 2021, from Featherwaite.
Thanks The Johnos

Found between campsites near Tennant Creek and Ti Tree on my way south on the Stuart Highway. The cache was a little hidden by run-off and grasses but found it after a short search. Hid it a little more obviously for the next finder. Thanks for the cache The Johnos.
Day 24 of my solo camping trip north from Adelaide.
I travelled up the Strzelecki Track to Innamincka, then through central and western Queensland, eventually ending up at Mount Isa. I then crossed into the Northern Territory to Tennant Creek via the Barkly Highway where I found a spot to roll out the swag last night.
This morning I completed a few caches around Tennant Creek before starting to make my way south down the Stuart Highway towards Alice Springs, doing the caches along the way. But as seems to be my way with these trips, I got a bit distracted. I noticed two earthcaches that looked to be in interesting locations off the Binns Track well east of the Stuart Highway and north of the Plenty Highway, and thought I’d head there for tonight instead.
After reading some previous logs I wondered if I’d be able to get to this one, but thought I’d take a punt. As it turned out, the gate was open and I could drive right up to GZ.
An interesting outlook over the mine and information on the boards. Hard to believe that this was one of Australia’s most productive gold mines.
The cache was a quick find and is in reasonable condition.
Thanks The Johnos for the cache.

Hi there The Johnos. While on holiday in Northern Territory we found this cache after a (very) short search - and the container and log are in good condition. TN, Left 3 extra log sheets, SL. We drove all the way in and parked at the top, about 10 mtrs from the cache - there is a fair (roughish going uphill) condition track if you have high clearance (4wd). Thanks to The Johnos for this cache and the fun drive to it - our find 7306
TFTC Thank you for hiding this cache. You have shown us a new place and have helped make geocaching an enjoyable activity.
Reasonably easy to get to the cache. Was able to drive pretty much the whole way. I like exploring old stuff like this, TFTC
This is a very interesting place. Impressive open cut, interesting history, good information about everything. We went with the camper all the way up and were rewarded with a stunning view. Thank you so much for leading us there by placing the cache The Johnos.
We are lucky enough to be travelling Australia for all of 2018
A short stop over in Tennant creek to have a look around
It's amazing where geocaching will take us and we wonder what the muggle miss out on

First cache today as we arrive into TC. Crazy to think how much gold would still be in there now. Great place for a cache and some history. TFTC
Detour around Australia - family of 6 travelling in a camper trailer for 6 months!!
We have actually been to the Red Centre previously (before kids) and didn't plan to detour past again, but last time we took the Plenty Hwy and missed the Devils Marbles - so we detoured and camped for a couple of nights there. Time to head back to Tenant Creek to stock up. It wasn't the most tourist friendly town so we decided to find a couple of caches as that usually turns things around and makes any place interesting. First we stopped for lunch at Lake Mary Ann but we couldn't get to the cache with a bunch of locals rather settled in for the rest of the day near the cache location. So we decided to have a look at this mine. It seemed a bit off-putting to go to an abandoned mine, up rough tracks and past a gate. But wow! - why don't they tell more tourists about this place?!? Such an amazing story that should be remembered and told. I can't believe this was all found by 2 men - 1 who was blind and the other who only had 1 eye!!! Thankfully we have caching to keep us educated when the tourism department fails!
Thanks for the cache. Loved it!

WOW...thanks for bringing me here - what a find - how interesting. The basin on the east side is awesome too. I drove right up to the cache - no lockout at this point. TFTC - fav point for that one.
Still travelling NT after the Red Centre Experience but now moving towards Birdsville in QLD for the Big Red Bash.
Moving day today.
True to form we didn't leave till 10.00am, and hoping to get to our next camp before dark o'clock.
After speaking to Team Crackers who we bumped into at Mataranka Roadhouse we diverted to make camp at The Pebbles the night before, so we could get cheap fuel in Tennant Creek and explore the area of your cache.

Today we explored Tennant Creek and surrounds using geocaching as a guide and picking up a few caches on the way and this was one of them. An easy find at GZ, excellent views of the open cut gold mine and adding to our favourites. Thanks The Johnos for bringing us here to see the history of Tennant Creek!
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment.
We spent the night camping not far from The Nobel Nob gold mine and then started our way north again this morning picking up caches along the way.
We arrived here just s the sun was getting very low in the sky and decided to make camp and look for the cache in the morning. after a leisurely breakfast and pack up we found our way to gz and were extremely impressed by what we found. The history about this once extremely profitable mine was excellent. The owners would have been over the moon when they were reaping over 4 ounces to the tonne.
The cache itself took us a lot longer than it should have to locate as the GPS kept changing it's mind as to where it wanted us to look.
We must say that the hint did help though in the end and our name is now in the log.
Many thanks The Johnos for the cache, a fantastic way to start the day, a favourite point from us.

Pa really indulged me today and brought me out to grab this cache despite the fact that I had said that the emphasis on caching would be over once we left Alice. What an incredible spot. Being well trained in rural manners, we left the gate exactly as we found it and continued on to GZ. It took a little time to track this one down and eventually the familiar, Here it is! rang out and I was able to stamp the log.. Thanks for placing this cache for us to find - I doubt we would have ever seen this big hole otherwise. Stamped log.

#6950 - 08:00; Day 17 of the Alice Mega Road Trip with Sol de lune, albida33 and fitzy_1965, so signing logs as A.L.F.S. We spent the night in Tennant Creek enroute to Darwin after attending the Red Centre Experience event in Alice Springs. Another quieter caching day as we headed north towards Mataranka Springs via Threeways, Elliott and Daly Waters. This was our first stop after an early morning pack up. Made our way out collecting a couple of trigs as well as rthis cache after making it past a couple of road blocks. Interesting spot and f65 came up with the goods as we searched the logical location. Alice trip 2017. Day 15. After a great time in the Red center it was time to push further north. Today took Sol de Lune, Luckyl10n, Fitzy_1965 and I from Tennant creek to Mataranka. Another light day of caching with plenty of Trigs along the way. I really enjoyed coming up here and am quite disappointed to see everything is supposed to be closed.
Thanks.

13395. First find of Day 07 of the Red Centre Experience Roadtrip. Heading North.
I flew into Alice Springs to meet up with my caching mates Sol de Lune, Albida33 and LuckyL10n (signing mostly as ALFS) to attend the Red Centre Experience and then venture up north to Darwin and then east into Qld before heading south for home - a three week caching trek.
First stop for the day. Quick find at GZ. Signed the log, replaced the cache, and it was off to the next cache.
TNLN - TFTC !! Now thats a big hole here !

On the road to the Alice Springs Mega with LuckyL10n and Albida33. We arrived in Alice Springs to pick up fitzy_1965 to complete our group and set about the fun of attending the event.
We spent the next 5 days caching around the region enjoying the area and finding a lot of the local caches. After the event we set our sights on Darwin and started off on the next stage of our road trip.
Managed to find another few caches and had a great time doing so.
Thanks for all the caches and the fun in grabbing them.

We decided to give this one a go. It hasn't been found since 2015. The gps took a little while to settle. A short search and I found it still in good condition. Interesting history around here.
Today we drive Stuart Highway from Alice Springs to Tennent Creek. On the way we visit a couple of caches. We drove an extra 24 km to get this one. We saw a nice 'lost' place with a lot of trash, but unfortunately we couldn't find the cache.
great location, nice place; waaaaw !!!!

Sorry for the late log, haven't had a chance to get in and log all of the caches I have found lately.

An excellent cache, more people should visit. Interesting history and well worth a visit Cache found and Ok. My first NT cache! Thanks.
We travelled right up to this site due to the previous perimeter gate being unhinged. A great view of the cut. Got GPS to zero, looked and looked but couldn't find. Tried hint but it didn't produce a cache. I see this cache hadn't been found since August 2014 so may need a check from CO.
Travelling around Australia - left Alice Springs and we are now heading north.
Stopped in Tennant Creek, dropped off the caravan, to hunt for the caches in the area.
What a great spot, pity it's not maintained as a tourist attraction.
Cache was found easily, and in good condition.
Many thanks for placing this cache, The Johnos, for us and others to find.

Wonderful site turn left at the gate creative locals have made a few nice camp spots round the back. Keep going and climb up by car and up at the site. Thrilled to find this one. Wonderful history lesson liked the ogre samples! !!!! Just watch the spikey grass. Tftc.
This cache is behind a locked gate. You could easily get through but decided not to break geocaching courtesy rules. It is private property after all.
I suggest the owner moves the cache because the gate will put others off too, and the drive is beautiful so a pity not to get the reward.

This was our 1st cache in our caching run today - and we found it at around 09:54.
(So this is our 4577th total find.)
It is a real pity that this site has been left unaddended for so long. With a bit of TLC this site could be a great tourist attraction for the town.
We nearly walked away from this one, but decided to phone a friend instead.
(The cache size needs to be updated on the Groundspeak site!)
Took: Nothing

Very interesting mine site but please not: Mine is officially closed due to a collpase they had a couple of years ago. If you do visit please take extreme caution and not suitable for small children I would say. TFTC The Johnos.
Took a while as we didn't come very prepared and had no idea what size we were looking for. Perserverance paid off in the end though. Our first find for the day in another one of those spots that you would not know about if it wasn't for geocaching. A great bit of history. Thanks.
The original cache was missing so we replaced it with a smaller cache, a MM tube with a new logbook in a cliplock bag and a pencil which was approved by the owner. It was worth a visit to this old mine, thanks The Johnos for bringing us to this historical place.
Found at 11.50am GAFF1. What a huge cut! So much taken out of the ground. Odd that this place looks like it is abandoned and yet the signs to the lookout are still up.
Thanks The Johnos.
Thanks The Johnos.
learnt some more history today TFTC enjoyed the walk. Took Thong keyring left gold coins for the next prospector.
Because we were towing a camping trailer stopped short of the parking spot, just to be safe, and then walked in only to find that we could have drive right up to GZ and have heaps of space to turn around. Yes Bundy, the GPS was right. TFTC.
A good find and nice bit of mining history to discover as well. The soldiers geo coin had moved on from this cache.
Find number 8 for the day, and find number 137 on the sixteenth day of our month long trip to Warwick, Lightning Ridge, Boulia, Plenty Highway, Alice Springs, Ayres Rock, Darwin, and home. Found at 1730hrs Qld time.
2nd visitor to this cache today. I walked round and round, while the ladies took pics. Eventually, I followed the GPS instead of my head, and grabbed the cache.

We went to a gold pour at Noble's Knob in 1975... it was a shock to find just how heavy a gold ingot was - and how slippery the pure gold felt.
The whole place looks a bit sadder now than it did then.
