For anyone making Geo plans, do yourself a favour and visit Australia’s only current Geotour at Ballarat while it lasts: https://www.geocaching.com/play/geotours/ballarat-victoria

And for anyone that can travel to Longreach, Queensland, late September 2023, Google “QOGM” which is the Queensland Outback Geocaching Muster. You’ll have at least 8 or 9 days of pure geocaching fun with around 200 like minded people attending a mix of events and access to over 200 geocaches placed by the QOGM team. It’s not a Mega, it’s better.

Found the cache towards sunset just after arriving in town. Was worried the recent rain might’ve made the cache difficult to find but a quick search later and we stumbled upon it.

The rock formations at the gorge were gorgeous at golden hour so if you have a chance to stay in the evening definitely take it.

Thanks for the great cache!

Its an impressive Gorge, love the quality container here also.

With GreyHams we set out on an epic 5 day caching trip from Cairns, to the Northern Territory and back again. 3400km via Burketown with the occasional detour off into different directions as was needed! Looong straight roads, many on dirt or rock and rough but luckily only the 1 flat tyre. Camels, a crocodile, wildlife in abundance of numbers and types and a crazy number of kangaroos after dark it was a little scary! Such a great trip through all the LGA's and we saw so much!

Day 1: We arrived in Cairns after midday to pick up the car with several hours of driving ahead of us to get to Hughenden. With road reports having just changed to open after recent rains it was a little unknown what was ahead of us. 'Drive to conditions and 4WD'... down the Lind in the dark and not a car to be seen for hours... we found out why! Some old caches, virtuals and earth caches to stop at, it was a good start into a few areas otherwise easy to drive by and miss their little discoveries.

Day 2: With reports of snow falling back home in Canberra we woke to a pleasant sunny day of blue sky and warmth. Hughendens windmills and dinosaur visited and then off into the unknown of more dirt roads of 'drive to conditions and 4WD' and a fascinating day of Earthcaches through the region. Cloncurry was our stop overnight and despite its many accommodation options it was a long search before the 'have you tried the road runner?' It proved better than expectations and as usual things just worked out. The Leichharde for dinner was a good snitty hotel, an event at the central was great to meet some local cachers and proved to be the steak place as we saw!

Day 3: The most epic of all days of the trip in the distance and events. Leaving The Curry it was up to The Isa, some local caching, local cachers and then south for a bit before returning through The Isa and off to the Northern Territory. Camooweal to Burke 'up the dirt' rough, rocky, lots of creek crossing, AKA 'dips' and a bit of water in places. A flat trye slowed things dramatically, after the crazy number of little kangaroos and 3 hours to travel 160km we limped into a thriving Burketown relieved to have made it with only 1 roo casualty. The hotel was a busy and friendly place, dinner at the closing TA and then the hotel closed and silence...

Day 4: Started off at the great guys at Nowlands who had the tyre repaired quickly. Checked in for our flight to Mornington and then off to the Burketown bore and wetlands while we wait, cool spot! Doomadgee missed the day before, we squeezed it in today which was worth the drive, the roos of the night made way for so many wedgies on the road and stopped overnight in Croydon at a great Queenslander hotel with the best meals and the best sauces to go with them. Yummy, caching fuel!

Day 5: Croydon to Mareeba, with a FTF opportunity at Einasleigh Gorge, great geology and a lovely discovery, lunch at the hotel and then off down some more dirt roads, creeks, water and corrugations, the road crews keep busy out these ways and we were pleased to meet some along the way! A little scramble for accommodation but Mareeba pushed us a little further and was well placed.

Day 6: A casual morning collecting a few local LGA's around the Cairns area before returning the tough and mighty little hire car and the flights down south to winter... aargh! Sunny Queensland, you will be missed!

Such a great trip, long days, long roads, landscapes and wildlife of such variety and abundance. Great caches, people and memories. Thanks for your cache that guided us through this area!

Aquilus1 & I are on a mission to visit every LGA in Australia and on this short & sweet 5 day mission we went from Cairns to the Northern Territory and back again. 3400km's, 1 flat tyre, 600-700 kangaroo's seen, 1 hit, and all the other fauna & flora.

What a nuts adventure!

Day 1: Arrive in Cairns at before noon, grab the car and immediately off to Guyala for the first LGA of the day. During the day we saw massive trees, and old virtual and some earthcaches.....and at least 200km of dirt road without seeing anything at all except for one car. Limped into Hughenden from The Lynd about 9:15pm. Had to spend 15 minutes killing mozzies in the room before I was willing to go to bed.

Day 2: Leave Hughenden after admiring the windmill & the dinosaur for a day of largely earthcaches.....and long dirt roads that were marked '4WD only'. Our mightly little pretend SUV ate them for breakfast. Had a mad scramble for accommodation at the end of the day in Cloncurry.....eventually getting a cabin at the 'Road Runner'..... which clearly has a poor reputation based on the looks we got when mentioning it. Local event was great and met TeamPops for the first time.

Day 3: Left The Curry on the way to The Isa.....detoured south a bit before returning and doing some cool gadget caches by drrnrchr...some real talent there! Then off to the NT of course, as you do! From there it was a slog to Burketown...."up the dirt" which was a very poor road. Got the flat right near the end of the worst stretch so then limped in at 50-60km/h for the next 3 hours. I have never seen so many roo's in all my life and I live in Canberra which has a serious roo problem.....it was crazy. We arrived just near closing of the pub & takeaway and the town was in party mode....then 15 minutes later was completely silent.

Day 4: At sparrows got the car to the awesome guys at Nowland to fix the puncture. This was the day for visiting the aboriginal LGA's, we checked in for our 30 minute Mornington Island flights at the Shire Council, first time I have ever done that! Doomadgee was visited as well, the road there being excellent with an exciting river crossing for fun......and we discovered it was actually Mabo Day so we were very lucky to visit on that day, the towns were fascinating, the Rosie's chicken at the Doomadgee roadhouse delicious. Heading east along the Savannah way, we saw a croc & a canberra cacher....of all the things!

Day 5: Another long day from Croydon to Mareeba, with my first Queensland FTF as well on an amazing earthcache at Einasleigh....more swful roads but thankfully these were the very last! As always an interesting hunt for accommodation, but it all worked out.

Day 6: This was a relaxed day just cleaning up the few surrounding Cairns LGA's and cruising into the airport...where they tried to charge me $500 for having a puncture that was now repaired...jeez guys, c'mon! Sorted out quickly but I was set to 'ramming speed' for a few moments.

After getting into Forsayth later than expected last night as we had chosen the wrong road and a very swollen flooded river blocked our patch so we had to come in via Georgetown so there was no caching done on our way in.
Today with a nice fresh start we headed out to Enslaigh to grab the two out there.

This was the first and we were not only impressed with the size of the container but also the area near where it was hidden.
Once we located the cache and added our name to the log we headed off to explore the area a little bit more in hope of perhaps placing an earth cache here.

Many thanks bubblensqueak for bringing us to this location, a favourite point from us.

Fun, adventure, travel, history, geology, mental stimulation, social gatherings, support and friendship are just some of the elements of geocaching.

Out and about enjoying the opportunity to grab a few caches, yours being one of those I targeted on my journey today. Thanks ??

Thanks bubblensqueak (F=881 H=25) for placing this cache and adding to our game.

After spending 3 weeks travelling from Cairns to Cape York and back with FeatherWaite and another friend from Hobart, we headed off on our separate ways home.

With the current dynamic covid situation and the restrictions in place in terms of entry back into SA, I haven’t really decided on my final route, but I was in no hurry!

I am making my way west towards Karumba.

I spent much of yesterday visiting the Undara Volcanic National Park to check out the Kalkani Crater and the lava tubes, then camped at the Einasleigh River last night.

This morning I noticed that there were some caches further south near Einasleigh and Forsayth, so decided to do a loop down there, then back up to Georgetown.

It was a bit of a deviation, but I’m glad I did it as it was quite a pleasant drive and the scenery was great. It was good to check out the two old mining towns and the Copperfield Gorge was worth seeing.

This cache was a quick find as I made my way to the gorge.

Thanks bubblensqueak for the cache.

Continuing my trip through North West Qld I made it up to the Gulf and now I’m slowly making my way back south.
After leaving Cobbold Gorge I was told to stop at Einasleigh and check out Copperfield Gorge on the way through.
A great gorge with plenty of water in it and it would be great to see it when it was flowing.
Walked a fair bit of the rim and took plenty of pics as well.
A fav goes out to you for bringing me here.

Thanks bubblensqueak TFTC.

Cairns trip 2019. Day 8. This was my second day on the Savannahlander train and we traveled from Almaden to Forsaythe via Mt Surprise and Einsliegh. After a quick look around the pub most people headed over to the gorge for a quick look before getting back on the train. This took me via this cache and I was happy to be able to find it without any problems.

Thanks.

Travelling through the region, I stopped to find this cache.
A bit of searching final revelled this (large) cache.

Wow! 100th find!!
Actually I would have found possibly double this amount. It was just that due to time constraints and lack of internet signal, many cache finds were unrecorded.
(Even this cache log is some months after finding it!)

My husband and I started caching in 2006. Placing quiet a few caches over the years. Unfortunately Garry's life was cut short in an accident Dec 2016. As we moved around a little with his work our caches are well spread out and I currently don't have the time to get to all of them to replace logbooks. I am asking if you are planning on visiting any of our caches if you wouldn't mind taking along a spare notebook and replace if necessary. Already I have had to archive a few but would love to keep the remaining ones going for years to come. I would be most grateful to anyone for helping out.

Today it was time to move on to Cobbold Gorge...after a short stop in Mount Surprise our next stop was here in Einasleigh to look for a couple of caches...this was the second which I hunted out after going down to check out the gorge...an amazing sight.

Thanks bubblensqueak for putting this cache here.
