Logs
We continued today our tour of several AUS states in the NorthWest and thereby searched, found and logged this interesting Traditional-Cache.The weather was - said in one word simply best. The good hidden caches and the being on holidays kept us the whole day in a good mood. The cache had good coordinates, and thus was easy to find. The logbook was okay, and allowed easy logging. For the excellent location we give a FP.Thanks to bubblensqueak for the generation of this nice cache Rock On (with the proper agenda), for leading us here and for showing us this funny location as well as the ongoing maintenance of this cache.PS: Please forgive us the uniform log which is needed due to timing problems - if necessary special actions and happenings are there described where they happened.Greetings from Germany together with the hope to meet somewhere like event or wood. Definitely trust the gps, not where you'd think it would be. Container is cracked, but contents seemed ok, quick sign, and then back in the disco on the way to Cobbald
GPS was working on my phone but after using some previous logs and photos it was in our hands!
OCW PelDroedGwin towing the caravan with geodog Peppa and geocat Levin in the car.The perfect t place to stretch our legs. Tftc
Found with my daughter. Did not sign as container compromised and log sheets were wet. Still cool in the outback.
Way too wet to sign, might need some maintenance, but overall a fun little hide and a good stretch. TFTC!! )
Found it TFTC Found in good condition. Remember to cover with a flat rock to protect container from sun
Great Northern escape 2022 Day 62. Mount Surprise to Western Creek Station near Georgetown. It was only a short drive today. I tried to have a leisurely start, but the birds were having none of that. I headed off and had a smooth drive. Once in Georgetown I walked to the two town caches and then the cemetery for the third. I had a look at the van parks and they seemed very full, so with two more caches out on the Forsythe road I decided to go to western Creek station. Very remote and despite plenty of people, very quiet.
That was a change, I did not have to go to the top of the rock ! Nice area. A concerned traveler even stopped to make sure I was ok. I love the outback.
Thanks for the cache bubblensqueak

Took the opportunity to stop for a few caches as we passed and to stretch the legs in the sunshine here, the cache was found easily and off down the road to the next!
With GreyHams we set out on an epic 5 day caching trip from Cairns, to the Northern Territory and back again. 3400km via Burketown with the occasional detour off into different directions as was needed! Looong straight roads, many on dirt or rock and rough but luckily only the 1 flat tyre. Camels, a crocodile, wildlife in abundance of numbers and types and a crazy number of kangaroos after dark it was a little scary! Such a great trip through all the LGA's and we saw so much!
Day 1: We arrived in Cairns after midday to pick up the car with several hours of driving ahead of us to get to Hughenden. With road reports having just changed to open after recent rains it was a little unknown what was ahead of us. 'Drive to conditions and 4WD'... down the Lind in the dark and not a car to be seen for hours... we found out why! Some old caches, virtuals and earth caches to stop at, it was a good start into a few areas otherwise easy to drive by and miss their little discoveries.
Day 2: With reports of snow falling back home in Canberra we woke to a pleasant sunny day of blue sky and warmth. Hughendens windmills and dinosaur visited and then off into the unknown of more dirt roads of 'drive to conditions and 4WD' and a fascinating day of Earthcaches through the region. Cloncurry was our stop overnight and despite its many accommodation options it was a long search before the 'have you tried the road runner?' It proved better than expectations and as usual things just worked out. The Leichharde for dinner was a good snitty hotel, an event at the central was great to meet some local cachers and proved to be the steak place as we saw!
Day 3: The most epic of all days of the trip in the distance and events. Leaving The Curry it was up to The Isa, some local caching, local cachers and then south for a bit before returning through The Isa and off to the Northern Territory. Camooweal to Burke 'up the dirt' rough, rocky, lots of creek crossing, AKA 'dips' and a bit of water in places. A flat trye slowed things dramatically, after the crazy number of little kangaroos and 3 hours to travel 160km we limped into a thriving Burketown relieved to have made it with only 1 roo casualty. The hotel was a busy and friendly place, dinner at the closing TA and then the hotel closed and silence...
Day 4: Started off at the great guys at Nowlands who had the tyre repaired quickly. Checked in for our flight to Mornington and then off to the Burketown bore and wetlands while we wait, cool spot! Doomadgee missed the day before, we squeezed it in today which was worth the drive, the roos of the night made way for so many wedgies on the road and stopped overnight in Croydon at a great Queenslander hotel with the best meals and the best sauces to go with them. Yummy, caching fuel!
Day 5: Croydon to Mareeba, with a FTF opportunity at Einasleigh Gorge, great geology and a lovely discovery, lunch at the hotel and then off down some more dirt roads, creeks, water and corrugations, the road crews keep busy out these ways and we were pleased to meet some along the way! A little scramble for accommodation but Mareeba pushed us a little further and was well placed.
Day 6: A casual morning collecting a few local LGA's around the Cairns area before returning the tough and mighty little hire car and the flights down south to winter... aargh! Sunny Queensland, you will be missed!
Such a great trip, long days, long roads, landscapes and wildlife of such variety and abundance. Great caches, people and memories. Thanks for your cache that guided us through this area!

Aquilus1 & I are on a mission to visit every LGA in Australia and on this short & sweet 5 day mission we went from Cairns to the Northern Territory and back again. 3400km's, 1 flat tyre, 600-700 kangaroo's seen, 1 hit, and all the other fauna & flora.
What a nuts adventure!
Day 1: Arrive in Cairns at before noon, grab the car and immediately off to Guyala for the first LGA of the day. During the day we saw massive trees, and old virtual and some earthcaches.....and at least 200km of dirt road without seeing anything at all except for one car. Limped into Hughenden from The Lynd about 9:15pm. Had to spend 15 minutes killing mozzies in the room before I was willing to go to bed.
Day 2: Leave Hughenden after admiring the windmill & the dinosaur for a day of largely earthcaches.....and long dirt roads that were marked '4WD only'. Our mightly little pretend SUV ate them for breakfast. Had a mad scramble for accommodation at the end of the day in Cloncurry.....eventually getting a cabin at the 'Road Runner'..... which clearly has a poor reputation based on the looks we got when mentioning it. Local event was great and met TeamPops for the first time.
Day 3: Left The Curry on the way to The Isa.....detoured south a bit before returning and doing some cool gadget caches by drrnrchr...some real talent there! Then off to the NT of course, as you do! From there it was a slog to Burketown...."up the dirt" which was a very poor road. Got the flat right near the end of the worst stretch so then limped in at 50-60km/h for the next 3 hours. I have never seen so many roo's in all my life and I live in Canberra which has a serious roo problem.....it was crazy. We arrived just near closing of the pub & takeaway and the town was in party mode....then 15 minutes later was completely silent.
Day 4: At sparrows got the car to the awesome guys at Nowland to fix the puncture. This was the day for visiting the aboriginal LGA's, we checked in for our 30 minute Mornington Island flights at the Shire Council, first time I have ever done that! Doomadgee was visited as well, the road there being excellent with an exciting river crossing for fun......and we discovered it was actually Mabo Day so we were very lucky to visit on that day, the towns were fascinating, the Rosie's chicken at the Doomadgee roadhouse delicious. Heading east along the Savannah way, we saw a croc & a canberra cacher....of all the things!
Day 5: Another long day from Croydon to Mareeba, with my first Queensland FTF as well on an amazing earthcache at Einasleigh....more swful roads but thankfully these were the very last! As always an interesting hunt for accommodation, but it all worked out.
Day 6: This was a relaxed day just cleaning up the few surrounding Cairns LGA's and cruising into the airport...where they tried to charge me $500 for having a puncture that was now repaired...jeez guys, c'mon! Sorted out quickly but I was set to 'ramming speed' for a few moments.
What a nuts adventure!

TFTC. Found while out and about with Dat87 on a day trip to Cobbold Gorge. A great day out and a nice quick find on the way home
After getting into Forsayth later than expected last night as we had chosen the wrong road and a very swollen flooded river blocked our patch so we had to come in via Georgetown so there was no caching done on our way in.
Today with a nice fresh start we headed out to Enslaigh to grab the two out there before heading our way towards Croydon.
We have to agree with the cache page this is indeed a vast country and this area certainly has it's share of volcanic rocks. We pulled up on the side of the road and thought mmm, this isn't going to be pleasant but once we got through the long grass on the side of the road it was a nice easy walk to gz and the cache page says just trust your GPS, we found the container right where it was pointing.
We added our name to the log before returning everything as it was.
Many thanks bubblensqueak for the cache

Fun, adventure, travel, history, geology, mental stimulation, social gatherings, support and friendship are just some of the elements of geocaching.
Out and about enjoying the opportunity to grab a few caches, yours being one of those I targeted on my journey today. Thanks ??

Found after an awesome visit to Cobbold. On our way to Karumba. Found with NutCacheBNE
After spending 3 weeks travelling from Cairns to Cape York and back with FeatherWaite and another friend from Hobart, we headed off on our separate ways home.
With the current dynamic covid situation and the restrictions in place in terms of entry back into SA, I haven’t really decided on my final route, but I was in no hurry!
I am making my way west towards Karumba.
I spent much of yesterday visiting the Undara Volcanic National Park to check out the Kalkani Crater and the lava tubes, then camped at the Einasleigh River last night.
This morning I noticed that there were some caches further south near the towns of Einasleigh and Forsayth, so decided to do a loop down there, then back up to Georgetown.
It was a bit of a deviation, but I’m glad I did it as it was quite a pleasant drive and the scenery was great. It was good to check out the two old mining towns and the Copperfield Gorge was worth seeing.
This cache was a quick find, fortunately at good coordinates.
Thanks bubblensqueak for the cache.

Travelling west to do some caching and this was one we targeted and found. Thanks for hiding and giving us the opportunity to explore. Beautiful scenery. We had a container we could use to replace damaged one. Fav point
This one is awesome. The lid is damaged so if the next person can replace it that would be great!
A quick stroll from the road has me at the listed coordinates and soon had my hands on the cache, as reported the container is pretty fragile but contents still good, thanks for placing and

We needed the hint but it was spot on. Nice to break up the trip to Cobbold. TFTC.
At first I was a little hesitant to walk into the long grass, but the well trodden path helped alleviate my fears
I trusted my GPS and I found, signed and replaced this cache as we were coming out of Cobbold Gorge. A difficult place to park with a large van but with his usual skill Pa found a spot. I wish I had realised how far past the cache we had driven and it would have been as easier find. Thanks for placing this cache bubblensqueak. It is in good condition.
How did the big rock get on to of the little rock. Nature does much better than people piling up cairns along the roadside. The cache was found quickly and easily.
We had stopped at Forsayth from Cobbold Gorge for a coffee. We needed it as a speeding cruiser flew past at a million miles an hour, spewing stones everywhere, wit one hitting the driver's window, smashing it to smiterreens. Fortunately the tinting kept it largely intact. This was the first one outside town.
There was a lovely phot op with the termite mounds, but the parking I chose was not the best, and I forgot my camera in my haste.

Trusted the GPS and found the cache hide.
It was a great place to "stretch the legs" and generally ponder the remoteness of outback Queensland!

My husband and I started caching in 2006. Placing quiet a few caches over the years. Unfortunately Garry's life was cut short in an accident Dec 2016. As we moved around a little with his work our caches are well spread out and I currently don't have the time to get to all of them to replace logbooks. I am asking if you are planning on visiting any of our caches if you wouldn't mind taking along a spare notebook and replace if necessary. Already I have had to archive a few but would love to keep the remaining ones going for years to come. I would be most grateful to anyone for helping out.
Geohubby kindly walked around GZ and soon had the cache in hand and the log signed.
Many thanks for the hide bubblensqueak

Day 10 of our tour up to Cooktown and then around the outback to the west of Cairns...and our last day as we headed back to Cairns...to fly home the next day.
I nearly missed this cache as we headed into Georgetown from Cobbold Gorge. I hadn't checked my GPS for a while and drove right past this cache . I only discovered this when I stopped for Flat Creek cache a little further down the road...which I almost drove past . As I may never be back this way, I decided a short back-track was in order. A reasonably quick find after walking in a rather large circle.
Thanks bubblensquaek for putting this cache here.

Found at 5:26 PM GAFF1.
It is always a surprise to find a random sudden outcrop of rock after thousands of kilometers of flat ground. As we approached GZ we thought that we had to do a bit of climbing, but we then looked at the Terrain rating and realised that we didn't have to overly exert ourselves this time [^]
Found the cache very quickly as it was not fully covered..
Thanks bubblensqueak.
Feedback: Container has been patched with a piece of tape and it is letting in moisture.

Found while driving from Karumba to Cairns. This one was a little out of my way but just too close to resist another great location! SL TFTC
Found it on our way out from Cobbold Gorge, love the rocks around here and this pile was particularly attractive. It's very dry underfoot with lots of dead crunchy leaves, but no long grass, nevertheless approached with caution and very heavy treads, after listening to savannah guide talking about mulga snakes, fierce snakes, taipans, death adders etc, made a quick find and continued on our way. Tftc
Taken me a few days to log this cache (sorry). I went from Forsayth to Georgetown to do some shopping and to check my emails (no reception in Forsayth) and remembered to check for local caches. Found this one on my return journey. I hate rocky areas on a hot day but I was determined to add another cache to my collection. GPSr spot on

Found this on a trip to Gobbold Gorge back a few years ago, forgot to log it, sorry. Yes it is a good place for a stretch and wonder. The gorge is a must see.
The rails had ended at Forsayth and so it was time to head back to dull monotony of the Gulf Development Road.
The Forsayth to Georgetown Road was providing a last few kilometres of quiet, scenic country driving
And an excellent excuse to stop by the roadside in the form of a geocache [^]
Hey nice rocks !!
This pile actually looks like Mother Nature put them there too !!
The really big rock on the top looks to heavy for any bulldozer or excavator to have placed it there [:o]
I had noticed that there must have been some bored excavator drivers when they upgraded the road, and “balance the boulders” seems to have been a popular pastime
To find the cache, I followed the GPS as instructed, and voila !!
A nice easy to find cache in rocks !!
Will wonders ever cease ?

This pile actually looks like Mother Nature put them there too !!
The really big rock on the top looks to heavy for any bulldozer or excavator to have placed it there [:o]
I had noticed that there must have been some bored excavator drivers when they upgraded the road, and “balance the boulders” seems to have been a popular pastime
To find the cache, I followed the GPS as instructed, and voila !!
A nice easy to find cache in rocks !!
Will wonders ever cease ?
TFTC and leg stretch [^]
Stopped at this cache site on our way through to Georgetown from Forsayth.
While I'm not usually a big fan of the cache hidden in the rocks, I rather enjoyed this find.
Don't get me wrong, hundreds and hundreds of rocks, but with a little faith in the GPS the cache hide was soon revealed. Signed the log but took nothing and left nothing.
Thanks bubblensqueak for this cache.

This cache definitely makes the trip from Forsayth to Geogetown much more interesting and enjoyable. It was not only the cache that fascinated me. The big boulders around are quite impressive. On top of that they accomodate a spine-tingling skeleton.
It was a matter of seconds for Warren to hold the container in his hands.

My job takes me out to Forsayth all most weekly by train and never by road. So have been wanting to get this cache for a long time, but have never had the means to get out to the GZ until today. Finally got a car job from Forsayth to Mount Surprise via Georgetown, so today was the day to finally get the cache. Quick easy find once I was at the GZ. TFTC TNLN SL . {#124}

This cache was a welcome stop on the way back from Cobbold Gorge to Undara. TFTC!
was going to try and find on way to Mt Surprise - however some fast driver decided to not slow down and smash and windscreen. Decided to keep going to get windscreen fixed.
