I had intended traveling thru the Molesworth and camping and tramping. But I left it too late in the season and road is locked.
The camp ground was so peaceful looking. I was very tempted to carry the sleeping bag and tent in and camp. But it wasn't even 12 o'clock so I retraced by way back to hamner.

A few people camping today, snuck in and grabbed the cache. Some Chinese gooseberries where by the exit. Haven’t had once since I was a child. They are still bitter!
Quick find thanks to a good hint. We thoroughly enjoyed our drive through the station today
Day 4 of our 17 day South island Rd trip. We started our trip in Hamilton. Trip meter ticked over 1000 kms today. We left Hanmer Springs this morning to travel as far as we could today into Molesworth Station. We went roughly 60 kms down the rd then returned as we needed to be at our accommodation tonight at Orari in South Canterbury. Elaine always had the goal to travel some way up this rd and today was the day. Beautiful weather for the trip and so many lovely photo stops along the way.
This was the 3rd stop on our trip today. Mmm cant see how this was a lvl 3 terrain as its really a park and grab. TFTC and an easy find

Early in the day sharing the area with a couple of cyclists who had cycled down the Rainbow and were going back north vie the Molesworth. It was hot and dusty. TFTC
What a great way to spend a day Caching than on the Molesworth Road, finding 8 Caches..We arrived here just as two Cyclists were leaving..Once outta sight we found it..TFTH
Our first find on our drive north from Christchurch. We were in our low-slung motorway mobile, but didn't have any problems with the road. The road was pretty much a normal gravel road - there were a few corrugations and a few potholes but they were easy to avoid. On our journey we only saw half a dozen other cars (mostly all SUVs) and probably another half dozen motorbikes, plus one bicycle.
There was a family having a picnic here but they were around the other side of the building, so it was a nice quick find. TFTC.

We were here to kayak/raft the Clarence, and due to shuttle logistics, we had a quiet evening here, so I used it to go for a walk to find a few caches. I suspect I passed this once previously when I didn't have time to look. An easy find, and a quizzical look from a cyclist that was camping nearby as I emerged from the undergrowth. TFTC.
Found this Cache on our way from Hanmer Springs to Molesworth Cob Cottage Campground. TFTC
Day 3 of our southern trip. At last, we had left the Molesworth, dropping car-shaped shadows of dust whereever we parked, and showered dust when we ran our fingers through our hair. However, this was not the end of the gravel so our celebrations were short-lived. TFTC
A short getaway to catch up with family on the Mainland and drive some roads not travelled before.
Driving from Blenheim to Hanmer via Molesworth today. Quick stop as we were running out of day.

What a great experience this was. A wonderful bit of back country history, peace and quiet and gooseberries - - - yay! Found a cache (a fav for that) and some lovely desserts in the near future. Found with Coconuts3 and thank goodness for their 4WD vehicle. TFTH
We came here with Busy paws for an explore of Geocaches on Jollies Pass. Enjoyed a good nosey here and then the bonus of picking a bag of Gooseberries. Thanks for bringing us here and the cache Annie &PB.
On from Hanmer on day 2 of a geocaching mission with Nosynel. We signed logs when room was cramped as JE NN. The aim of the trip was to try and find most of the Molesworth caches. My lovely son loaned me his flash Toyota Hilux so we were in more comfort bouncing over corrugations than we would have been otherwise. Thank you for placing a cache in this spot. Cache in good order.
The big Molesworth circuit has begun. Today is day two of Jude _E and my geotour. Thanks to her kind son we have use of a Toyota Hilux, very handy! Tonight's destination is Blenheim via the Molesworth.
Sadly there is no large event in New Zealand in 2019 but there are a few Mega events planned in Australia. I plan on going to the OzGeomuster in July. To find out more visit this site: https://www.ozgeomuster.com.au
If you can't make Aussie. New Zealand will have another large event in 2020 in Auckland. I will keep you posted in my logs.

The accommodation house is fenced off due to earthquake damage ... So I suppose we'll have to come back once repairs are finished. A fascinating historical site- same age as the Lee Stream accommodation house in Otago. Cache well defended by gooseberries, nice and dry, hooray a regular too
What an awesome little spot to have a night in the tent with some top blokes. We got here at about 8 and set up camp then set about finding the cache, a bit of a hunt around then all good.
An awesome Molesworth Mission trip with Karma Reprint and The Wanglers (signed as K2T), tonight up to Acheron Accommodation campsite. Thanks Annie & PB for the cache, 11 of 132 for the trip. Cheers

A plan was hatched and the plan set into motion, Kiwi Moose and Karma Reprint asked me if I'd like to join them on a Mad Marvelous Molesworth Mission... I asked them to give me a day or two to get back to them. I was able to get the Cachelets sorted so I was on like Donkey Kong.
Day 1: Boys picked me up and we headed to Hanmer for a cache or two and some mean as burgers for dinner. Popped over the Hill and camped at the Acheron DOC campsite. Enjoyed the many stars, we would have enjoyed more if we were on the other side of the trees, doh!
Day 2: Up and at em nice and early and cached our way to the coast. Weather was good with a bit of patchy rain. Spotted the the High Country Flying Club hooning up the valley, we saw 10 or so light aircraft. We were stopped at the Wards Pass by the Molesworth Station Manager Jim and had a sausage and a cuppa while we waited for the mob of 1000 head of cattle to wander up the pass. Great yarns were told by Jim. We decided on a camp site but it was crap and we headed into Seddon for the night at the Awatere Motor Camp.. that was interesting.
Day 3: Worked our way home via the coast and a few side trips. KM's vehicle had started acting up so we nursed her home and got home just after 5pm.
Great company, great fun and a few caches were ticked off the ol' list.
Quick grab as we were sorting out camp fees.
We signed the log as K2T (Kiwi Moose, Karma Reprint and TheWanglers)
Thanks for the cache Annie & PB.

Easter road trip through the moles worth stopped here for the night so cache was nice and handy after walking the loop tftc
Found with StreetWalker on our Hanmer to Blenheim trip. Driving the Molesworth has been on our bucket list for a while now and with Easter's road closure imminent, we decided this weekend would be a good time to tackle it.
The early morning mist had lifted by now and we had brilliant blue skies for the rest of the day. After SW found the cache, I went for a wander around the building. Wonderful old building, but sad to see it in disrepair after the earthquake.
There was a group of cyclists in the camp ground. Cycling this road would be quite an adventure - and tough as well.
Thanks for bringing me here and TFTC.

#15198. A good spot to stretch our legs, and read up on the area on the information boards. TFTC.
Found after driving up from Hanmer for a picnic with group of fitness fanatics. TFTC
Another beautiful day for our weekend roadtrip. I was traveling with a friend who has family history in the area which was fascinating to listen to as we travelled. It's a shame to see the old building damaged by the quakes. Tftc
29 December 2017 12:02. Had a brief chat to the Doc ranger about gooseberries (not ripe for another week or so, unfortunately). Cache was quickly found and in excellent condition. Tftc
Found the cache. Staying here the night. Amazing old building. Shame about quake damage. Tftc
A quick find on our Molesworth trek...first time through at 63 years....quite looking forward to it I assure you. Thanks for getting us started.
Found with the hint! Nice hide here and a very dry cache! Weka walking up to the next one..... TFTC
First larger cache we found on this trip to NZ, certainly happy about it!

On our way from Christchurch to Nelson, we decided to go via Hamner Springs and Jacks Pass along the Acheron River. It was amazing to see new astonishing landscape after every bend.
We could find a lot of caches along the way with beautiful scenery, thanks!
So far seen on this trip: Thailand and New Zealand.
TFTC from a geocacher on his journey through the world.

Just about gave up on this one. GPS had us looking elsewhere but jojo had a hunch and soon cache was found. TFTC.
Nice place. Lots of bees. Had to wait for doc man to finish with his sign. Drive around the block while staying at hamner.
Enjoyed looking through the house while we waited for a couple to move away from the board. Just as the log was signed and cache returned a huge motorhome pulled up - very pleased that I wasn't going to be meeting it anywhere along the road. We were surprised to see the guy who left the Cob Cottage about an hour ahead of us this morning on his bike here setting up camp - good on him. TFTC #8242
Zara and I teamed up with the Seagnoid for an adventure in my new house on wheels to the Molesworth and Hanmer for the weekend. New to using GPS but been finding the odd cache but have gone solo so this is a double adventure. The Seagnoid teams up with Zara and I get the GPS to learn to navigate.
Finally at Cob cottage. Had a good look around after finding the cache. What an amazing building and lots of interesting info to read. Thanks for getting us to stop here. Cheers Back on the road again

Like it seems a few others before us we planned this trip about a month ago. Chelzea and I doing a weekend cache run through Hanmer to Blenheim through Molesworth Station, an overnight camp and then return along the main highway back to ChCh. A pretty intense weekend with over 120 caches found that most seem to blend together so reluctantly cut and paste logging. Had a great time finding many wonderful caches in a fair few cool spots worthy of the visit. Very few DNF's but will note anything interesting or wrong with individual caches. Thanks to all the cache owners.

Sevren and I decided on a caching road trip Hanmer , Blenheim via Molesworth Sation.
Girls weekend with daughter! Last year we decided to head out to Molesworth with a suitable vehicle, and now was a good time for it. Saturday was quite hot and muggy. We started caching past Hanmer Springs and wanted to see where we get to. We concentrated on drive-by's with a few shorter lookout walks in the mix. Great time in an amazing area, thanks to all the CO's for their caches to keep us entertained along the way!!!

Out caching for the weekend with mum. She had hired a 4wd for us to be able to attempt getting some caches which we may not be able to otherwise! So we did a quick two day weekend trip to see what and how many we could find.
We drove up to hanmer, and then took the Molesworth route. Fun times, lots of caches, and plenty of other people around every now and then too!
Didn't do that huge a weekend, but had fun, and still got sleep too!
Thanks for all the hides on the way

After some planning Shannonp1 and I got sorted for a mission into areas we hadn't been. Up to Hanmer through the Molesworth to Blenheim, down the Wairau valley to St Arnaud down the Shannandoa to Murchison and then home via the Lewis. 209 caches for the weekend and a pretty high success rate. Thanks to all the cache owners especially Bum and Worker and sorry for the cut and paste.
So a few weeks in the planning phase, me and Surveybase finally got out and about for a mission. Through Hanmer, up the Molesworth to Blenheim, across through St Arnaud, Murchison and then home. 209 caches for the weekend and a pretty high success rate. Thanks to all the cache owners and sorry for the cut and paste. Cheers.

Had no phone coverage by the time we got here but used my Spidey sense to find. Completed yesterday. Good spot for some gooseberry picking at this time of the year.
Returning from Lake Tennyson after gf & I stayed overnight, we came through to Acheron for a visit. Unfortunately I'd neglected to download the cache details to my device, and it could've been almost anywhere - and I looked in all the usual suspects, but not the correct one. We enjoyed our wander around, so TFT Opportunity. Lovely spot, lovely day.
Tented within two minutes walk of this cache. Nice old tree. Enjoyed the red currants but the gooseberries needed more time for ripening.
NZDi and I decided to do a trip through the Molesworth today, overnight in Hanmer Springs and return to Blenheim via the Inland Kaikoura Route tomorrow. Of course any unfound caches we came across would gladly be turned into smiley faces. We departed Blenheim at zero dark early (6.15am) and arrived in Hanmer Springs just over 11 hours later and as a result of this trip and one we did back in October, we have cleared all except two caches between Seddon and Hanmer Springs. We didn't have time for dessert today so a couple of caches at Pudding Hill will require another trip. if I get a major Lotto win tonight, I can see a helicopter charter in my future.
It was good to get through the gate with over three hours to spare, which proved we did have time to complete the Pudding Hill Summit cache, but we were glad we left it for another day. The other thing about this cache was, that although it was our sixteenth of the day, it was the first non-bumandworker cache. I don't know what the nearby campers thought of me bashing through the bush to get to the cache, but fortunately it was out of sight while I retrieved and signed the log.

With all the new caches along the 'Molesworth' road from Blenheim to Hanmer, we had taken advantage of a sunny autumn day one day before the road closed to do the trip. This cache was a bonus find at the end as we do like to find the older caches. Sadly we had no time to check this area out more fully as it was getting darker and we were getting hungry.
Thanks.
Thanks.

[green] I teamed up with Taybee and TaybeeNZ for a trip through the Molesworth. We were in a shopping cart, and the trip took longer than I expected, Blenheim to Hamner Springs to Blenheim in 14 hours, caching just the Molesworth road, 34 caches in all for me. A 4 wheel drive with its better grip and higher ground clearance would be faster, but a shopping cart gets through fine. Saw loads of yellowhammers, NZ Falcons, cows, and 500,000 volts. Score at the end of the day: The Seagnoid: 4, Taybee:1, TaybeeNZ: 29. Hard to beat him when he runs everywhere, and the caches are easy to find - he didn't even have a GPS!
There is another cache called "Archeron" on this road - and what I wrote there seems to applies here:
I remembered hearing of Archeron before... Taybee thought it might be to do with archers. I looked it up - Ah, yes, it is another river, along with the River Styx, on the border with the underworld. Eventually "Archeron" was the name used to refer to the whole of Hades. I didn't see Charon or his ferry here, so maybe the border of Hades is further along the river somewhere.
But this could be a good place to stay while waiting for the ferryman!

Camped here because we could make lake tennyson in time. I like this place more anyway. Warmer and sheltered. TFTC. Took nothing out, put sandflies in.
Camping at the campground after a great day at the Hanmer pools. Quick find after looking around the old Acheron Accomodation House and foraging for red currants and sour cherries. Kids had a great time apart from the sandflies which were rampant! TFTC.
Camped here for the first night of our drive through the Molesworth with daughter and granddaughters (StokesNZ). A great place to stop and take in the history, forage and just enjoy the great outdoors. TFTC.
We had intended to find this one lastnight but a determined camper occupying a chair at the cottage until after dark made us change our plans. With a work vehicle disturbing us much later we decided it was now or never and were soon signing the log. Then it was back to the tent and some shut-eye before heading home today. I must say though wild gooseberry and jandals isn't a good mix in the dark. Thank you Annie & PB.
We were camp hosts at the Acheron end of the Molesworth road for a week so it was an ideal opportunity to find this cache.

At Hanmer for a couple of weeks took a break from a busy maintenance schedule at our Holiday home and went off to search out a few geocaches I have yet to find. The Acheron Accommodation house is a place I have biked passed in the “Molesworth Muster” mountain Bike adventure three times and bike to and from (about 60kms round trip) Hanmer Springs a few times, Went for a swim did a little fishing in one of the many water holes in the Clarence River (no fish caught, I did saw fish some ). There were a few peoples were in the vicinity but they were all too busy to notice what 1eyednbf (1 eyed and proud of it) was up to, quick find, Nice place for a GC, TFTC
