Loved it! Lovely to visit Charlotte's place and the beautiful view. Quiet day with a nice breeze and enjoyed the journey and the find.
WA Big Trip Winter 2024. Day 125 - Kununurra Day 2. Today was a day around town and the close area. I was happy to find some DNFs from may last visit in 2018. I was glad there were not too many long walks, but the Mirima National park is always great and the Gardens of stone area was fun driving and one short walk. My final stop was the Ivanhoe crossing. The water level had come down a bit but it is well and truly closed still. Still pretty hot all day, I am glad there was a pool to cool off in a few times. I cooked dinner at the van tonight and will be off to Timber Creek tomorrow. The next three caches were out in the city of stones area along some very sandy tracks. I was happy two where virtually drive bys and only one a 100m walk. There were three well themed caches that are well worth the effort of a visit. Thanks for the cache Bushies248954.6 TNLNVisited: World Traveling Gold GC A#6 & 2018 El Dorado Manoa Compass Rose A#378**Albida**
TFTC Nice suprise. We replaced the pad and a new sandwitch bag as the old one was wet.
Found it quite fast. Charlotte scared me though. I also forgot to bring a pen so didn’t get to leave my mark on the log book!
Heading north with richlink on our way to Darwin and beyond enjoying the spectacular scenery and finding a cache or two along our route.
As richlink had previously found this series, they headed back to camp while we negotiated the tracks to the various GZ conducted maintenance as required. Thanks, Bushies2, another group of excellent caches.

A late log...
We decided to park the geovehicle roadside and adopt the sandy walk option, good choice, pretty rugged tracks...
We enjoyed our afternoon walk through these spectacular rock formations, the sun highlighting the Kimberley red, searching for the clever cache containers, we managed to find all 5 in the vicinity, too much unlove on this cluster of geocaches, TFTC's Bushies2

Poor old Mr M climbed all around as we didn't realise there was a spoiler photo. Maybe add it to the hint. Once we saw that it was much easier especially with me directing from a flat spot. Cute charlotte. TFTC
Find 6 of 17 with 1 DNF on an action packed day, with a whirlwind tour of Kununurra and then out to Emma Gorge for a fabulous walk/swim/meal and return under the stars.
Set off walking to join these 5 caches up together and even though it was only about 9am it was pretty warm. This was much tougher than we expected but we did it, with a lot of scratchy bush bashing and not much track walking. Amazing landscapes all around and some good finds. Quite a tough trek across and up to this one and getting the right level took a while. The best views of all from up here.
TFTC Bushies2!

Out for a morning of caching in the City of Ruins. Beaut spot but sheesh, she’s a bit warm.
Found all the caches ok and ended up going for a quick dip at Ivanhoe with the locals. Gee, it was nice but I wasn’t in there for long.
The geo Mazdarati made it through the sand ok.

We got up early this morning to try for these before the heat of the day. So pleased that we made the effort. TFTC Bushies2
A other excellent cache found by master 5. That’s two for two him today. This place is super cool!
Found this one, really like the caches places around this area, lovely rock formations and creative containers
ME AND MY COUSIN WENT FOR A WALK AND WENT ALL OVER THE PLACE TRYING TO FIND CHARLOTTE LIVES HERE AFTER ABOUT 45 MIN WE FOUND IT. IT WAS A AWESOME GEOCACHE BY THE TIME WE GOT HOME WE HAD IT HAD BEEN ABOUT 3 HOUR. THANKS!!
This is our third visit to the Kimberley, a place we love and always have a hankering to return to. It is a place of amazing beauty and adventure.
On our last visit we cached quite seriously, but still left the area with a number of unfound caches. We were 4 years less experienced, and sometimes you are just blind and have no luck.
It was a good hide, in a logical spot but we seem to remember that last time we drove around and around on more and more obscure tracks without coming any closer to GZ. This time we got to 70 m before we had to get out and walk/climb. Lots of possible spots but Mr Ski sighted something that suggested to him “geocache” and, what do you know, we got to sign the log! Another hot, sweaty and dusty day caching!

My last day in Kununurra before heading back to Canberra in the afternoon. I had been planning to use the morning to gather some caches, so was glad of the lack of rain. I wasn't about to test my hired soft roader on the tracks (especially after rain) so enjoyed a good walk instead.
By the time I was leaving Kimberley Rock my phone battery had died, leaving me with just my tablet. The geocaching app works well enough on it, and the distance is pretty accurate, but the compass really doesn't know what to do. So there is a fair bit of trial and error involved in navigating to a cache.
I eventually found the right area, but the GPS wanted to take me too far - the spoiler photo sorted that. Being of a certain age, I knew what to expect from the cache, but it was still cool to find. TFTC

The satellites kept bouncing both the phone and the handheld gps so we searched crevices for an hour or so blind but no luck. Till next time charlotte!
Got back to the car and read some of the previous logs.....spoiler photo thanks a bunch. Quick walk up and spotted (gave it a little wash). Gps def took us much further up then required. Tftc
Went in armedwith a stick, wasn't sure ifit was real or not!!! Thankyou, a favourite from me today.
Hi there Bushies2 - while stopped in Kununnura during our 2016 Northern Adventure TWO decided to let me have *another* day out by myself to pick up some caches that were too rough for her to accompany me. This was our find number 4133 - SL. Thanks to Bushies2 for the cache.
This one took us a lot longer than it should have! First we were searching on the wrong side then we were up too high but Geohubby persevered and in the end we had to revert to the spoiler photo ... Finally the lovely Charlotte was located! Thanks Bushies2 for the cache
Fantastic!! Thanks for showing us this beautiful place. TOOK THE SMILEY BADGE

Our current visit to Australia had been in the planning for over a year with the very significant help and advice from friends who live in Melbourne. The original plan was for a 2 month visit, but as things progressed we just couldn't help extending our trip to the full 90 days allowed on our visas - after all it's a big country and so much to see and do, especially with our favourite pastimes being birding, hiking and of course geocaching! Our journey started with our arrival at Perth airport followed by a day cycling around Rottnest Island before travelling on to Adelaide where we met up with our friends. We then continued on to spend some time on Kangaroo Island, before heading to Melbourne via Goolwa, Strathalbyn, Coorong, Mount Gambier, Cape Bridgewater, the Grampians National Park, Port Campbell, Cape Otway and Lorne, cramming in as much as possible on route. The second leg of our journey was a fabulous 9 days in Tasmania. Having then returned to Melbourne we set off on the third leg of our journey, which was to Sydney via Wilson’s Promontory, Lakes Entrance, Mallacoota, Pambula Beach, Thredbo, Canberra and Fitzroy Falls. We then spent a few days in Sydney with geocaching friends efore flying on to the Gold Coast for the fourth leg of our travels, that included visits to Lamington National Park, Noosa and an overnight trip out to Fraser Island. We then flew from Brisbane to Cairns, where we spent a couple of nights before heading out to the birding hotspots of Yungaburra and Daintree. Following on from a visit to Cape Tribulation we turned to Port Douglas. After a day out on the Great Barrier Reef we returned to Cairns for the flight to Alice Springs and the fifth leg of our travels, which was a wonderful week driving the circuit to and from Ayers Rock in our 4x4 camper. On returning to Alice Springs we then flew on to Darwin, where we picked up another 4x4 camper. We are currently making our way towards Broome via Kakadu, Cooinda, Katherine Gorge, Kununarra, Lake Argyle, Emma Gorge, the Bungle Bungle’s and Fitzroy Crossing. Our last two nights in Australia will be spent in Broome before we fly back to Perth, from where we will connect with the flight all the way back home to Zimbabwe via South Africa. We already know we can't wait to return!
Once again geocaching took us to another fabulous location - this time the "City of Ruins", that we wouldn't have visited or even known about had it not been for geocaching. We also had a great deal of fun on the 4WD tracks, having successfully disabled the highly restrictive big brother tracker in our 4WD hire vehicle that Britz has untold boundaries, for despite their so called "No Boundaries" logo - to the degree that we wonder why on earth they rent out 4x4's when they don't want the vehicles to do what they are built for or go where they are made for! - still, always nice to break the rules and use our 4WD hire vehicle for what we had hired it for! At Ground Zero Charlotte had been doing her stuff since the last geocacher was here, so we had to avoid as many of her relatives as we could! We found her after quite a scramble over the rocks. Thanks so much for the cache and please have another favourite point!

Woah what a fright. Took geowife to teach her 4wd to get some of the caches we've been meaning to get to for a while
I found lots of Charlotte's little sisters and brothers before I found the queen herself!
Drove around the sandy tracks until we were as close as we could get. Later realised we could have driven around the other side, but the walk was good. Climbed up the rocks, and even after telling geohubby what he would probably find, it still scared the day lights out of him while I was standing below laughing at him.
Today we visited the City of Ruins a stunning location that we would have visited if it was not for geocaching. We enjoyed the cache containers and adding to our favourites.
Thanks Bushies2 for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment.

Today I wanted to find all City of Ruins' area caches. Let's just say If there was possible, of course I searched at first wrong places. Like really wrong place! Look other side and you will find it. I had little scary suprise! TFTH greetings from Estonia
This was our 1st cache find in a caching run of 8 Finds & 0 DNFs today.
We found it at 08:59 so this now makes our total find count 6983.
[blue]
Another great caching day in the Kununurra area.
We found the cache easily this time around. Just sort of walked up to it and the hiding spot was really obvious, we really don't know how we missed it last time we looked. (Looking at the spoiler pic the other day may have had something to do with the ease, but the GPS didn't look at the pictures. )
[/blue]
Coordinate Accuracy: Excellent (Around 2 metres).
Cache Condition: Container and log book are in good shape.
Took: Nothing.
Left: Smiley Badge.
Thanks Bushies2 for the hunt today.

After more fun and games getting the geomobile to the parking spot, I found meself surrounded by scenery everywhere I looked [^]
Hey !! Top spot
By and by I bounded off into the scenery to find me a cache
Well I soon found GZ as indicated by the GPS and set about searching some likely spots.
After a long 20 minutes I couldn't find a thing
There was a new hope left to salvage a find.
Help me Obe-3G-Kenobe, you're my only hope [:o]
And so back at the geomobile I glanced at the spoiler pictures displayed by the onboard computer
Um!! I could not recognise anything !!
So I returned to where I had been looking and spent another 10 minutes or more trying to nut out the problem.
I had the pictures, but nothing matched !!
Ergo !! I was in the wrong place
So I wandered well away from my GZ and wouldn't you know it the GPS wandered with me.
About 30 metres from my original search area, in a spot that resembled the clues, the GPS still showed me at GZ [:(!]
Damn cliffs !!
And once in the right area, I soon spotted the spot in the picture !!
And there she was.
G'day Charlotte, nice to meet you.
And where's Wilbur ?
Oh I see, I hope he tasted nice

Another “Rest Day” today, lol, a bit of a contradiction of terms, ha ha. ...............
We returned to the caravan to drop off our shopping and get some lunch for the kids and we then went off to look for some geocaches in an area known as the City of Ruins . We found one of the access tracks into the area and drove in onto a narrow sandy track bordered by very tall straw dry grass and scattered around the area, barely visible were little sandstone towers of the crumbly banded bungle like rock. We chose a cache and navigated towards it along the track winding in and out through the rock towers, over soft boggy sand, carefully picking our way through by climbing up rock shelfs and fallen tree trunks across the track, down into steep sandy creek beds and back up the other side, it was pretty tough going at some stages. We chose a cache “Vampire, GC287KW”, and set off driving around the tracks to get as close as would allow then set off on foot to find, this was a fun cache container and the kids at first were a bit scared but soon realized it was harmless. We signed the log and moved on to the next one “Charlotte lives here! GC287ME”. This one required some more difficult driving but eventually we found a suitable place to park nearby and got out firstly to look at the awesome views from on top of the rocks and then went in search of the cache. We had trouble pinpointing this one as the coords were a little out and was trying to send up to the top of a very high and impossible to reach rock so we resorted to the spoiler photo and soon found its hidey hole. I sent Chloe in to get it and her reaction and the look on her face when she picked up the rock that was sitting on it was priceless, lmao. We signed the log and carried on.
Our next one on the list was “Cave Man, GC287FM”, with more driving around in search of a suitable spot nearby to park and a bit of a bash through 2m high dry straw like grass and over rocks to finally get to GZ, a quick search revealed another clever container. It was now getting quite late and we went in search of another one on the way out but ended up driving around in circles trying to get closer, as I didn’t want to go bashing through the long grass too far. We ended up leaving that one and drove towards the road looking for “City of Ruins #2, GC1TCBG”, I was getting a bit frustrated trying to find this one and while I was looking for the spoiler photo Charlie found it straight away, well done again Charlie. We signed the log and headed out intending to go back to the caravan park. There was a bright full moon rising up over the rock formations and Jacki wanted to get a photo, I thought it would be good to go to “Kelly’s Knob Lookout, GC1KEPN” to get some photos. The last couple of days had been overcast so we were not able to get any good sunsets, today was a bright sunny afternoon and from the top of the lookout all the surrounding hills glowed a fabulous bright red and orange, highlighted by a full silver moon rising in the east. While we were here we put out a replacement container for this cache as it was not to be found last time we visited. We then returned to the caravan for an afternoon cuppa and then it was time to prepare dinners and retire for the night.

wow this one is one of my favorites. Good little drive, this month hidden in 2.5 meter high speargrass and once there: what a place! great view too. Good cache. TFTC Bushies2! I drove a bit further in this maze which has a few tricky washouts... Awesome. And Charlotte: she is still good!
We're with outhavinfun...thought we knew what was coming but still got us jumping!! Lots of fun. Thx Bushies2, lovin it! What a magic place. Can't wait to see this place in the wet:)
Hunted for this one for quiet some time before finally coming up with prize, even though I had a fair idea what to expect it still scared the bejezzas out of me .
This one took me a little while. I walked up to a cliff with the GPS saying 6m. I checked the bottom area to no avail, and though "do I really have to go up?". Fortunately I was able to get reception (I hadn't at the Mirrimah caches) and those great photo spoilers did the rest.
It turns out that the interference from the cliff had had me some 25m or so from the cache! When I got there the coords were pretty good. Many thanks Bushies2.

We found three caches in this area late yesterday afternoon. We enjoyed the area so much that we decided to return this morning to try to find the remaining thee cahes. It was a reasonable walk to GZ, having to take numerous deviations to get around some of the rock outcrops. Once at GZ a quick find was made, although we did poke something to make sure it was not alive before retrieving the cache. TFTC Bushies2 and thanks for the series of six caches - we really enjoyed the area and the caches.
Found at 12.05pm GAFF1. Now not only does it live there, but it also has spun a huge web across the crevice!
Love these type of hides - much better than a nano in the bush which can become so infuriating.
Thanks Bushies2.

This had us going around for a while but found it eventually as it was 25 mts away from where GPS indicated. Just lucky that 'Tango' had the spoiler photos with him. The final co-ords are 15 43.970 128 44.661. We sent Bruce in to uncover the cache and waited for his reaction!!
This one had us going around in circles for a while but eventually we were able to match the spoiler photo to where to find the cache. We have Bruce the job of locating the cache and it was good to see him jump! Lovely location. thanks Bushies2
As what Temingi says about us amending the coordinates, we don't think it will make any difference because of the rocks surrounding the hide, all you can do is look at the spoiler photos. Hope it helps. Good luck!
STF: Interesting cache - worth to find this one - not to be missed. Left my pathtag. Thanks to Bushies for another excellent cache.
# FTF # Gotcha !!! Bushies2 added some photos to the site which helped. GZ on the posted co-ords seemed a long way from the actual cache.Shared our GZ co- ords with Bushies2 tonight and they will check and maybe ammend them, Thanks for bringing us to this interesting area and TFTC
Well she may live here but we couldn't find the door to her house !!! Maybe we'll get back here again in the next few days if time permits. Thanks for bringing us to this interesting area.
