This cache needed maintenance when I looked at it last time I was in Whakatane, over a year ago. And it looks like there have been problems for a while before that.
Tried this out this morning despite the dnf previously. Guessed at the cords for the second waypoint From the hint we think we are in the right place but so much work has gone on down here including tree felling that it's hard to tell where it may have been and in all likelihood it's been muggled. A shame as it is s great walk and an asset for Whakatane.
Nice walkway but having walked from town to get the coords for wp2 then arrived at wp2 to no sign within 50 m think that things may have changed since this cache was placed. Pity as it makes a pleasant walk. Noted that it hasn't been logged since 2014!!.
We had done half of this another day and finally finished and found it no sunshine and was starting to spit but a good morning all the same
We had done some of the walk another time, so thought we would finish it today. Cache all good. TFTC
didn't read the previous logs and raced off to find the 2nd way point missing, enjoyed the walk anyway.
Out for a full days mission to clean up as many cache's as possible in and around Whakatane, that I still haven't found. Early start this morning and was at the first GZ about 30mins after sunrise, while called it a day 20mins after the sun had gone down. Great day out and just about completed what I set out to do, a couple of DNF's so will be back again one day.
Attempted this multi a while ago, but got stuck trying to find the WP3 co-ords as the sign had disappeared. Had kept an eye on it and found that it had can be found by hunting out the next stage, and skipping the missing way point. So I adopted the same method and by taking a estimated guess at where this multi would be taking me I worked backwards and looked for the a sign that fitted in with the final clues.
After checking a couple of signs I found one that seemed to make sense, and once I worked out the co-ords it looked like a pretty likely spot. Searched around a bit but only one spot looked likely, so decided to clear away a few fallen rocks and luck would have it the cache revealed itself. Well... I should probably say the logbook revealed itself as the container has completely disintegrated, but the log book was in prefect condition. A great multi, but a little sad it the missing way point hasn't been fixed, worth a fav point nonetheless.

I had trouble today as the 2nd sign isn't there
but had great fun trying to figure out the cords

We had some confusion as to which sign to use at the start, but as they both gave virtually the same answer, this wasn’t too much of a problem. However we weren’t able to find a sign at all at WP2 which somewhat stymied us. We decided to try further along the walkway, and discovered a sign we thought might be at WP4, so gave it a try. It was indeed the right sign, and the cache was soon in hand, although opening it took a little longer. We suggest people take a small screwdriver or pocket knife with them. TFTC
Found the cache, but have to admit, I barely walked any of the track. Found waypoint 1 and calculated for waypoint 2; which I drove to. I couldn't find the relevant sign, though I did see a few of the cool locations in the description.
That was just about game over without the coords for the rest of the multi. I didn't want to give up, so had a play with some of the given information, and headed to a likely final.
Checked one location, which was over run with pest traps. The second location would have been a cool place for a cache... but no luck. A little further on, a tell-tale stack gave it away. All up, this epic walkway multi took me about 20 minutes. TFTC.

First multi for me, doing a spot of research for my own potential challenge! Enjoyed the trip down the river only to be met by a high tide and a big swell. Cache survived the onslaught!
Came back again after the cache was missing last time - thank goodness we found it this time
Finally got back to finish this one - had to widen the search but NZ Biscuit soon had it in her hands - lovely spot on this beautiful spot - thanks for keeping this one going TFTC
Sorry to previous two cachers - checked and this has been muggled yet again. The spot has become rather popular since the development of the new closer parking area so I'll have to find a new spot - until then will disable, and get sorted before summer
After all that work was gutted to have a DNF - the hint looked like it should have been pretty obvious
Good call Fab&Gap
Have Disabled until I get down there for a look and see what can be used.
But if want to continue using the sign that F&B found thats cool with me - Good Luck.
Also dropped off TB that wants to be by the sea.

1.35pm - Doggie sign gone missing at the beginning so went looking further on for one that we thought would be the sameand with a bit of luck found one by the motor camp. Todays weather had fined up just nicely for us to complete the walk and retrieve the cache. SLTFTC - Took Geocoin
Ok another is in place. Seas were obviously really high to wash it out
Sorry kiwicouple - hope you are still in the area.
Have placed the Poppy geocoin to help remember our ANZAC troops on this day.

No final cache when I went for a check today so will be disabled for a bit till I get it sorted
Enjoyed doing the waypoints for this multi. The final was in a great spot, but unfortunately we couldn't find the cache. We are late logging this DNF, and see that Ymana has now checked and temporarily disabled this cache as it is indeed missing. We will be back!
Busy place in late afternoon. but worth the walk. Glad on at end at high tide and inshore wind. Would make a good bonfire to cook the fish caught off the rocks.
Nice running along the river! Was in surprisingly good conditions after the flooding.
Also our first multi-cache and we were successful (although we had to back track a bit to make sure we got the co-ordinates correct when we couldn't find the third sign). Thanks
Part of a 7 day adventure around the east coast with the beautiful bjarni1
We were too exhausted to walk all the way to the end so we drove from WP to WP
The second one had us walking around a bit figuring out which sign to look at but was quickly found through process of elimination.
Took TB's

Nicely put together multi. We came back into Whakatane from Matata especially to do it before heading back west on our way home.
Great day, so went for a walk, surprising who you meet up with, then along the wharf people fishing. I ended up having a coffee with a charter boat skipper, so the family continued for the find. Good to meet tjr-nz, at the site. Happy New Year.
Dropped of 2 TB's
Garfield Gold Nugget not in cache so dont know where this has gone

What a nice walkway, took quite a while to complete but worth the effort. Took a long search to find cache (I over thought the hint). SL TFTC
Just checking after wet weather and local construction - all well

Realy enjoyed this multi, thanks for all the trouble you went to with this cache.
Beautiful clear sunny day, enjoyed this multi but didn't have time to walk the whole way, however each waypoint provided different views of people enjoying this lovely day in the sunshine. Enjoyed the final very much, a lovely spot. TFTC. Swapped TBs.
4665 A most enjoyable multi, enjoyed our walk. Co-ords were all spot on.

A wee blue at the start got me in the poo...luckily there was a clue for WP2...I got on back track, then to stumble from wrong angle of attack...Ymana I did dial, she said don't frown, "smile"....from there it all did float, from log to log, another find for this old goat....[:o)]
Geckoh FTF also found some glitches so will disable until i get them sorted.
Thanx Geckoh sorry you had to get wet

Wow, a Ymana cache that we beat the Waimanians to, lol, great walkway now they have done it up, must walk it one day, shame it was pissing down so we had to settle for drive between waypoints in the dark, aka the P&P method of multi caching
We had a couple of mishaps along the way getting the numbers to work but a bit of local knowledge got us there in the end!! Will email owner to query some possible issues, Thanks for another great Ymana cache.
TNLN TFTC!!
