Day 2 of our wonderful weekend on Kgari. We have left Captain Vimes and JDavs at the resort to enjoy a sleep in and the day spa, while Beardman75, Peppa and myself were up early to explore the north of the island. We visited the pinnacles 3 years ago but didnt realise there was an EC there at the time. Righted that wrong today as we stopped in our our way north. AustraliaA country that has fascinated me for a long time. But the distance to get there was just as great as the desire to drive there. So it was dreamed but not implemented. But then our friend nalfion moved again. And this time to Down Under. That gave the go-ahead to plan a little more firmly for the first ideas and fantasies. The bosses were asked about a longer vacation and then we went to the travel agency with our rough ideas. For such a complex thing we wanted to have support. And after a few appointments there, the basic structure was in place.During our summer holidays we went to Sydney via Singapore, where we spent 2 days. 2 days in Sydney city and then we went with a small camper van with the whole family via Katoomba to Cairns. Our friend lives in Adelaide so ended up staying there for a few more days at the hotel before heading back to Germany without any lengthy stops via Melbourne and Singapore.A wonderful holiday that at least brought us a little closer to this huge country and gave us many great memories. We spend a few days in Urangan to make a day trip to K'gari.Such an amazing island with such a beautiful lake.We even saw some Dingos, but only out of our coach. Thanks for the Cache.

We are on our long-awaited journey around the world in 99 days. Second try after canceling in 2020.
Our fourth stop after Los Angeles, Hawaii and New Zealand is Australia.

This time was of course used to find some geocaches here.
Today we visited Fraser Island and while that we were searching for the Earthcache **Fraser Island’s Coloured Sands**

At the given coordinates the needed answers where found quickly and after sending them, ther is a new smile on our geocaching map!

At least we would like to take this opportunity to thank CADS11 for creating this Earthcache!

We were here today on our QLD coast leg of our ‘Around Australia’ trip.
We set off back at the start of 2021 expecting to go around Australia in 12 months - here we are still going in 2023 with about 1/3 of the island left to lap.
My (Geo Mum) personal Favourite experience: Too many to choose, Finding Gold and Opal high up there, working on a CQ cattle station was awesome too.
Favourite location: Gibb River Road/ Kimberley closely followed by Nhulunbuy/ Arnhem Land.
Best paid activity: Horizontal falls
Best free activity: Kings Canyon Rim Walk, Matt Wright putting us up for free in one of his helicopters was pretty awesome. (Let’s not talk about his current situation )
Most interesting location. Arnhem Land
What you have learnt: I wish I had something insightful to put in here, if I though really hard about it perhaps I do but I guess the most practical things I learnt are: Mango sap burns, midges are xxxx’s and dog beds are a versatile alternative to real furniture.
Miss the most: Family & Friends, closely followed by my garden and my chooks.
Look forward to the most: The Whitsundays
Regrets? Worrying so much and not heading off years ago!

I saw this area while driving to Sandy Cape and decided to visit when coming back down. One of many beautiful locations on this wondrous Island. A small plane landed on the beach with tourists when I was there. I'd rather drive the island than fly over it.. but maybe that's just me haha. Thank you for this Earthcache.

Rolled up here in a hurry as the tide was coming in fast. The beach was disappearing!

My first visit to spectacular K’Gari island and I decided only to log Earthcaches. This was the first location for today ️ I would struggle to count 72 colours but did enjoy the amazing display.

The Maheno shipwreck was something else!!!

Planning to come back for a longer stay and do some of the walking trails

Finally catching up on all my logging from my recent trip north with geo friends chamad and TripleTurnmoil.
We had driven past this Earthcache twice but then remembered we had to stop on our way back prior to catching the barge over to the mainland. We enjoyed seeing these amazing colours that seemed to appear out of the blue as the landscape really changes as you progress along this fantastic sand highway! We were a little confused with question 2, thickness or height but came up with an idea each.

Answers were sent to CO as per e-mail option.

I have never had the opportunity to visit Fraser Island. Chamad wanted an adventure. A road trip and I am super grateful that he took me along. We had a 3 day road trip, on Fraser Island, Double Island Point and Rainbow beach, plus a detour on the way home to Brisbane through Gympie, Boreen Point and Noosa. Snickersallen joined us too and it was great to meet someone new, especially someone fun to cache with. So many laughs, frustrations and more laughs. Lots achieved. Some road blocks preventing some wanted achievements, but we enjoyed ourselves anyway. This was day 2 of our adventure.

We were not really sure of GZ for this one. It put us at a very tree-covered hill with no coloured sands at all. So we travelled 800m north to an area that matched the picture and the name. Nature is amazing.

24-Apr-21
A three day camping road trip with Snickersallan, Triple turmoil and myself was organised to see Fraser Island, Rainbow Beach and Double island point. What a fantastic time we had; driving around enjoying the scenery, bush walks, visiting lakes, lunch and dinners on the beach, and a great camp site at Dundubara. The trip was full of laughs and great companionship, thank you.

Day 2 and it was now time to start heading back on our tour of the island. We arrived at GZ only to find that it was 800 metres up the beach. With the information obtained and answers sent to the CO we were off to the next one. Thanks for placing this one here.

A really interesting place to end our journey up the sand ‘highway’ before making an about turn and retracing our steps back to the barge. A wonderful journey all round!

Our today’s trip took us with a guided tour to magnificent Fraser Island. What a spectacular overflow of natural wonders! We really enjoyed this day at so many amazing places. It goes without saying that the three Earthcaches along the route were geocachers duty to do.
The first EC on our 4WD-adventure were the Pinnacles or Coloured Sands. Such a great spot ! TFTC!

Visiting Fraser on a 4wd tour for earth cache weekend with Nyssaflutterby 1minniemoo Team nanabombana and Mrs Membsec.
I expected more colours though the tour guy said there’s 72. I thought they’d be more different colours.
Very cool how these pinnacles have formed here.

12/10/19 2:20 pm Find #2766
A weekend on Fraser Island for Earthcache Weekend courtesy of the wonderful NyssaFlutterby’s planning, had us girls (NyssaFlutterby, wombles and co, membsec, teamnanabombana and I) finding 4 earthcaches, w out g this one being our third of the day.
As the clouds began to drizzle chilly rain down on us we left the Maheno and made our way here, our furthest point on the island, to check out the pinnacles.
Such an impressive sight, and although we didn’t have too long here, the group of us stood and seriously debated our answers for this one, as time has obviously changed things here.
Satisfied with our answers, we hopped back on the bus and headed off for our final stop of the day.
Thanks for the cache CADS11.

Lady membsec came up from Tassie especially for Earthcache weekend which has become a tradition amongst a few of the girls! We were excited to find a tour that would take us to some Earthcaches on our way around Fraser Island.

Can remember coming here twice before and I cannot wait to get home to view photos taken in 1979 (our first visit) and then again in 2000 as I believe this area has changed over the time.

Thanks for making us take a better look at the coloured sands! A great area of Fraser.

Great day with the family up here while on holidays, reminiscing with my kids all the fun times we ourselves had as kids. Plenty of memories of trips and holidays in this place. But that was back when we were kids, the fish were more plentiful and the people were few. Now it's the other way around. Thanks for the cache.

It's a long time ago, that i set my feet on the sand of Fraser Island, but I still remember the great time traveling there and to other nice places in Australia.
Arriving from Rainbow-Beach my travel-mate and me reached Fraser Island and spent three beautiful days on that island. The right terrain for our bush-camper.
Driving on the 70-mile-Beach was so nice, but also the hikes to the dunes and lakes a bit far away from the beach. The sandy roads in the inland were pretty rough and we felt very shaked....
I liked the long beach, this width … We also enjoyed the Pinacels and the landscape around it. So nice, all these natural colours.

Thank you, CADS11, for this little "flash-back" to a great traveling-time in Australia!

24-Jan-18
Fraser Island I arrived with a tourist group, which I didn't know before. Because we had two Petes in our group, I was named Swiss Pete. While introduction theorie a guide asked, who's already experienced in driving on sand. I held up my finger. That made the people curious. Where in Switzerland there would be any sand? I told them, that I was a truck driver in the Swiss army and there we trained on sand as well. After that I was called Swiss Army Pete...
On the island we had a fantastic time together. The group matched perfect. We felt like in paradise. The only matter was, inspite of the beauty of the sand, it disturbed in the mouth. Even when you opened a new beer, there was already sand in it... Big Grin

In the eve we made a fire, sat around and played a few funny games. We learned a lot about each other. After midnight the folk went in their tents for sleep. I asked two British girls, if they wanna sleep next to the fire beside me (not with me). First they were scared about the dingos. Eventually they decided to agree. After talking for a while under the stars we aslept. In the middle of the night I awoke about a noise. When I awoke and opened my eyes, I looked straightly in the eyes of a dingo. Oops, that I didn't expected. I throwed a few empty tins to the dingo and tried to be calm, I didn't want to awake the girls. The dingo disappeared and I slept on...
In the morning I meant, nobody would know about the nightly visit. But I forgot that there were traces in the sand. So I had a longer discussion, before we drove to the next place... Smile

Thank you very much for this Earthcache. For the great memory and the beautiful place I give a blue heart.

Claiming this cache as answers have been accepted thank you. The sands were interesting formations to see, hard to believe it's just sand and difficult to estimate size from such a distance!
