So glad that they kept this small part of history. Sound like the iron works hard a tough life to.

I am amazed at the historical display under there. I have only been to the shopping center a few times, but I remember before it was built. I had no idea anything like this was nearby!
This was a surprise, great bit of cleverly displayed history in this cool carpark. Thanks I enjoyed it.
Illawarra Feb 2012. I love that they have preserved as much as possible of this place under the shopping center. It was fun reading the signs looking for what you wanted to be sent. Thanks for checking the e-mail Sol de Lune sent for both of us. Thanks.

I was with bikerbuddy on a caching trip around the area today, he had previously found this cache back when it had a container. It was early morning when we got to Mittagong and he was worried that the carpark wouldn't be open & that I would miss seeing this spot. But the carpark was open & we were able to get to the correct spot & find the information required.
Fascinating location and good spot for a cache. I will have something similar across the road from where I work soon - there's a large commercial/residential development being built over an archeological site, and they will be incorporating the remains into the ground floor of the development.
Thanks

this is one interesting place to visit as the iron works were part of my research when I ws doing my guiding courses . sending info to CO but this is against a traditional hide type and ground speak guidelines . suggest you archive the traditional and change to a multi using the info from the board's to get a GZ and then could be placed outside the security area. I will give it a fave for the location . TFTC

We have really enjoyed touring around this area, beautiful gardens, homes and parklands and some cute towns as well. We had a few caches on our list for the day and this was one we were able to find after a short search. We really liked this one - it was so totally unexpected. We will send the answer to cache owner shortly and give this one a fav point.
Nice work with the cache thanks to powerplayx2.

We looked high, we looked low, we looked in, we looked out, but today there was no way we could work this one out! Never the less, the visit to this site was worth it as this is a stunning way to preserve such an interesting historical feature. If we had found it we would have given it a favorite tick.
NOTE TO CO:
1. We checked out the hint and then did a visual - no cache. Suggest the cache be disabled until it can be checked out.
2. Technically this is not a Traditional type cache as the provided co-ordinates do not place you at the cache location - see Groundspeak definition of a Traditional cache. We believe a Multi would be the correct classification.
Thanks for the hunt anyway powerplayx2 .

Did lot's of searching, no cache that we could find.
We are almost certain there is no cache here

One of the most interesting caches I have stopped at for a long time, and worth the several minutes it took (to read the signs and look around).
As for the hint - it took more than fingers to find the cache - I had to lean right over the fence at the correct sign and look, only to find it was dead-centre (under) the sign.
After signing the log, I replaced it within a hand's reach of the base of the sign so it complied with the hint.

Found with JYGE on a Southern Highlands caching day.
Wow what a cache. We visited this one and proceeded to search the area without any luck. I must have leaned a bit too far over the fence, when I heard a Will Robinson style voice "INTRUDER ALERT, INTRUDER ALERT. SECURITY ARE MONITORING AND ARE ON THEIR WAY!!" or something to that effect. It was so loud. I looked at JYGE and said "Should we run?" but we thought we would stay and see what will happen. Moments later a security guard ran down there and made a few enquiries with us. We had a bit more of a look after he left but couldn't find it.
I emailed a previous finder who gave me more of a hint which I couldn't believe it as I would have found it if I had not been interrupted by security.
We returned later that day to make a very quick find. Thanks for the cache, history and the thrill. I am awarding a favourite point for the thrill alone.

This was our 26th find for the day on a caching raid of the area, truth be known, it should have been our 9th. Our first attempt was a DNF, who would have known that the area has motion sensors and a very loud speaker announcing our over exuberance in the efforts to find the cache and security guards as well. If my fellow cacher on the day wants to explain more in his log.........Any way, a quick thinking, person who shall remain name less.....contacted the CO and just before we called it a day, the CO advised that we where in the right spot but just needed to try a little harder and it was soon in hand. I'm going to give it a favourite, because its the first cache I have been too with such an elaborate security presence protecting it.
Checked in on this one today as I had to literally drive past it anyway. It's still there. As per the description: "The cache is a nano it is placed on one of the signs and you will not be able to see it fingertip search will uncover the cache." Combine that with the info in the hint and it's an easy find.
after checking every sign and sticking my finger in some gum i gave up. maybe the guard removed it so people would stop setting off the alarm?
A great location, but I searched in the appropriate place until a security guard informed me that I was setting off the alarms. He didn't seem to be concerned as to why I was reaching over, he just politely told me to stop.
As popular as this cache is, it might be worth re-thinking its hiding spot or providing precise instructions to avoid the alarms.
I would have given this one a favourite point if I found it.

Wow, what an interesting place with a very interesting history. Amazing that this survived the construction of the shopping centre. I guess for the residents of Mittagong (Mittagonians ??) this is nothing new but for us passing by it is great! TFTC.
Apparently the security system gets set off easily. Alarms, security. Too much noise lol
4th of 7 finds in Mittagong on the way back to Sydney. Scratched my head on this one, though it was up top! Once I worked it out it all made sense. I can't believe all this is inside a shopping centre. It's quite bizarre. Thanks for bringing me here!
Thanks for showing this little piece of history, what a cool find. Easy grab, had to remember why we were there, too much reading was going on.

Thanks for reinstating the cache National Steel. Have returned for a successful find! Woohoo!
Ah ha! was looking in the right place all along..gotch this tine. Amazing history lesson. SL..TFTC.
Used a bit of stealth to find this little cache but we thoroughly enjoyed reading the history & checking out the ruins, what a surprise find in a shopping centre car park, quite amazing. Favourite point from us. First to sign the new log! TNLN,SL TFTC
The cache is back up and BIG THANKS to National Steel for replaceing the cache.
I had an hour or two to kill while my car was being serviced, so I walked here and replaced the cache and log. I used the same type and placed it in the same spot as when I previously found it. So it's back now, and hopefully won't be muggled again anytime soon.
I happened to park near this today and as a previous finder I can confirm it is no longer there. I have a spare container of this type and can replace it if that's of any help to the CO?
Looks like this one gone missing will replace soon, still if in the area go
and have a look at the sight.
and have a look at the sight.
Attempted this one, followed the clue and no luck. We were able to look at the back of the signs by hanging over and it certainly wasn't there. Will return when it is replaced.
Wow! What an amazing cache location. Who would have guessed this was here. I looked at all the different signs and couldn't find the cache. Phoned a friend who told me specifically where to look, but I am a shortie and couldn't reach it. I was leaning way over the barrier fence with my feet off the ground horizontally trying to reach but then some muggles came and started to explore the site which put an end to my visions of climbing the fence to retrieve the cache. I'll come back for this one. Thanks powerplayx2 for the cache.
You park out the front of the shops, walk to GZ, and find a huge bit of history in the middle of an underground car park? We were in total amazement to find something like this here, it was totally unexpected. I think we read every sign and had a great look around at the same time (from behind the fence of course). You defiantly learn something new every day. Thanks for the awesome cache powerplayx2.
Thanks For The Cache

Found this one previously when I was just a muggle. Disappointed not to find it today with Mosaikmum.
GPS doesn't work in this environment but fortunately I knew exactly where it would be once I read the description. Very interesting spot that not many locals know about. I'm glad I have long arms! Log is completely full and needs replacing. Took photo of PARLAY trackable on site. TFTC!

Found the timeline. Unable to locate the cache. However the location was well worth the visit. Will be back
GPS not working but found the underground car park and the sign but no sign of the cache. What an amazing place to have a heritage site, well worth the visit!! Thanks for taking us there, pity but we really think the cache is gone.
Great cache for nifty little fingers. Will return one day to read the signs properly. I'm still perplexed as to why a shopping centre was built on top of this heritage site - surely there is no shortage of other suitable land out here?
We really need to slow down and actually read the signs sometimes! After scratching our heads for a bit, Zita returned to the car to look up some past logs and Enzo read the sign for something to do - we both had the 'Aha!' moment at the same time.
Who would suspect that something so cool would be tucked away here? We love this find and it gets a favourite point from us TFTC

While in mittagong, stopped in at this one. Having just bulk uploaded a bunch of caches to the gps had no description or anything to go by so didnt realise at first that a short trip into the basement was in order. Thankfully i had the clue which gave me the needed directions...
This place is amazing, if not a little sad. Its great that they've preserved these historic ruins so well and in such an information rich way. But on the flip side, why build a giant shopping complex over the very top of it to begin with?
Really enjoyed the juxtaposition of historic ruins, with the convenience of underground parking

Found on the way from Adelaide to Sydney for a work trip. Stopped nearby for lunch and was about to leave, and had a quick check for local caches. I didn't know this history was right here under the building. A quick find, a slow re-rolling of the log sheet. SL. TFTC.

Logging this DNF. We actually could see the cache and managed to take a pic with our camera, however its been placed back in a position which makes it impossible to reach without either climbing over the railing or having half your body over the railing. Reading previous logs about setting off alarms we thought it safest not to attempt to retrieve cache.
We'll be back for another look next time we are down this way.
We'll be back for another look next time we are down this way.
Caching with friends again (including clojo92), this one took us a bit. Our friend set off the alarm, the security guard didn't seem to mind (he must be used to some cachers looking for it) (DO NOT LEAN OVER THE RAILING TOO MUCH!).
Thanks for the cache!
Thanks for the cache!
good spot. felt around a bit with nothing. eventually found with the assistance of my phone's video camera
I'd remembered reading about the cache in this piece of hidden history, but unfortunately it wasn't loaded in my GPS when I found myself in Mittagong. So, relying on my vague memory, I parked the car in a shopping mall, and went walking! Luckily found the vicinity of GZ, then followed the clue to locate the cache.
It's great to see this valuable site preserved, thanks for bringing me here powerplayx2!

Sad DNF for us as my gps not right gz around, read previous logs as said something, beleiver underground and interest history story, still seached as no cache... maybe come back....
I was here a week ago on a trip from the Gong but I didn't check for caches. This is the best part of the shopping centre. TFTC
What an amazing history in this area! Didn't take us long to find this sneaky cache and we really enjoyed the history lesson that came with it. TFTC
Not sure that I was in the right place for this one. GPS kept pushing me into the building. I think I need to reread the description.
