We have been to this area years ago to visit the possum fur shop (when it was one) I remember just how beautiful the blankets were. A jolly good use of possums. We had never walked up to look around this area so we were keen to come and explore. The wee fairy dell was pretty cute at the start of the walk, the herb research area was quite interesting to see too.The bush was lovely, and the mining area was interesting.\Thanks for showing us this area, it was a lovely way to spend some time, and we got a bumandworker cache to add to our statistics so it was a well spent couple of hours.
A beautiful walk into here, I was pleased most of it was under shelter as it was very hot, I still took the opportunity to throw some water over my head in the river after finding the cache which was far easier than I expected with the tree cover throwing the GPS all over the place, it was in the second place I looked. Thanks B&W#15022
The plan today was to walk up to the Kaituna Forks, But the weather when we got to the carpark was some good old West coast downpours. So we settled on a quick jaunt up to the Gold Field relics, which have been well and truly taken over by the rejuvenating bush since the last time I was here, which was probably 15 odd years ago. The cache was a nice quick find, as I spied a bit of "colour" as I approached. Left it a bit more covered. TFTC
.Met some kids at the bridge who helped us with directions. They were having fun trying to capture a large trout that was playing with them. Now its time for a short walk to get this one tagged. Replaced log with a Temp RITR log to keep this one rolling along. Cheers
Its Saturday and we are off exploring around Collingwood and up towards the Heaphy.
Its a long weekend to Takaka, with Collingwood and Farewell Spit in the mix, with Zara Toby and Bullertroutss Bro. So lets go exploring. Visited lots of awesome places. But never enough time. I will be back.

Over in Collingwood today for a funeral. The first one since my husband's so wanted a bit of a walk to clear my head before the drive back over the hill home. This fulfilled that brilliantly - a nice easy walk in the bush with complete peace and solitude. What a fantastic place. Found the cache in the first place I checked too. Tipped out all the water, dried it out as much as I could and then checked out the river and the area a bit more before the short walk back to the car. TFTC # 11,646
Day 3 of our caching trip over the hill around golden bay. Today the weather wasn't great but we were determined to make the best of the day. It had been raining heavily as we arrived here and so we took a coffee and a muffin and waited for it to stop. A lovely track up thto cache but it has seen some damage and trees down in the recent storms. All added to the atmosphere getting to gz. Not sure about head height for the cache. To gain access we had to climb around the back so it was then below foot level for us! TFTC which gets a fav from us.
I've been meaning to call by to do this one for a while now.
Had my walking legs all warmed up at Milnthorpe this morning so I popped over here for the short walk in.

Silver found on a lovely day 24 hours after arriving in the bay from China. This is much better than our usual geocaching in the UK at this time of the year! TFTC.
Couldn't find this on the way out to the river fork, but gps was better on the way back so we finally found it. The log is pretty wet. SL TFTC
A pleasant walk to a fairly quick find. As the log was mushy, we added a waterproof log sheet. TFTC
Enjoyed the walk in to find the cache, took a bit of finding when we got there however, but found it in a logical place soon enough. Returned to the carpark and nearby cafe to overpay for a poor quality snack that took almost an hour... soured the walk somewhat. TFTC (1382)
Beautiful track... Wonderfull café... Nice cache. Thanks and greetings from Belgium!
I have enjoyed the odd leisurely lunch at the nearby establishment, but not today. Other things on my mind. Interesting to find gold workings in here too. They're all over the place. Really enjoyed the walk through the bush. I think I smelt a dead possum on my way but didn't investigate to make sure. TFTC
Found on a day's exploration around the region, letting the geocaches lead me to all the interesting places. Came for a very pleasant walk to here after a substantial lunch at the nearby establishment, I had been wanting to visit that for quite a while. Interesting old workings. The cache was a quick find - signed log, TFTC
NP was closed so no-one else about when little Juicy & I went for a walk in the bush to find this one today ..
Log is starting to get a bit damp but I was still able to write in it .. Thanks for the hide

This was quite a celebratory cache for me as it marks the completion of my date grid which I have completed consecutively. It has been a great year of caching and although I have had a few difficult patches (especially with the English weather not always making caching so appealing) I have thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and am very proud to now have achieved 366 days consecutive caching.
Great walk with the family and although the hot weather which we have had every day since we started our holiday in New Zealand at the beginning of December has been lovely, it was refreshing to have a slightly cooler walk today.
TFTC and favourite point given.

How convenient. We arrived at the parking coordinates right on lunchtime. Had a good feed of high quality "wild" food. yum. Took swimming gear up to the cache site but the water wasn't a particularly nice colour so decided to find an alternative place to swim. Enjoyable stroll through the bush.
Many thanks
Many thanks
We trhink this is a must do cache just to be in the bush and to hear the birds TFTC
Thanks for the walk in the beautiful bush to these gold workings. This is what geocaching is all about to us, something neat to look see the cache site. TFTC
Lovely time up there swimming & exploring. Sandflies must have taken the day off. cheers B&W
We definitely needed the hint here as we had no reception. Had to venture into the stream to get sufficient reception to confirm we were in the right area and this gave us only a rough idea of where the cache might be. A search of possible areas gave Mrs Sobad only a cut finger before Sobad said 'here it is'. We did enjoy the walk to the area and the chance to check out the local cafe. Mrs Sobad even found she had been in the same 'Toy Library' group as the person serving!! (She won't say how many years ago). Thanks
Nice walkway - like the last log says, trust your GPS and the hint, as it's not where you might first venture but further on and the coordinates are spot-on. TFTC.
Favourite spot of mine BC (before caching) but not been back until now. Cache is NOT in the tailings. Visible damage from cachers searching at GZ. May pay to put note on cache page? TFTC.
A nice walk to the gold workings today. Would have liked to check out the possum but had already had coffee and a biscuit in Bainham. TFTC, Biggles.
Another holiday tradition - a walk to the Forks and something nice to eat at the Naked Possum! A cache on the way was an added bonus
Headed to the Possum for a feed but found it closed . Tore up the track in the (badly needed) rain and signed the log before heading back to Collingwood for dry clothes and a meal at the tavern. TFTC.
1400hrs Don't get mislead. Head to the river to reactivate your GPS if you have too and then trust it. Interesting place that's for sure. All man made, no machines, no wonder they died young. The Italian Job was here......! Our blog www.motorhominginxs.blogspot.com
Actually we wrote in the log! and were there on July 9th but have only just managed to get to a computer......we thought someone had been there before us as they had written in the log and were therefore second to find................oh well, was a great walk whatever the order of attendees.............
A nice wee walk this, it would be a good one for young families. Just Mr KE here today attempting to restore some work/life balance before an evening and weekend shift (I don't do weekends!! - unless they can't be avoided!!). First time at the naked possum too, good to see some of Dave's influence from Labyrinth Rocks here. 2nd FTF for the morning. TFTC. +/- coins
