Found during a trip to St Arnaud to attend the 2019 Victorian Mega event. The weekend was spent primarily with e.gregory1, FeatherWaite, Freddo, and gridge98 as we geocached around the vicinity of St Arnaud. All of the events and CITOs were attended, we completed the available adventure labs and lab caches available at the showgrounds, many of the creative trails were gasped at their construction, and interesting puzzles were solved and collected during the weekend.
We all left on Thursday in two separate cars, and met up at the evening event, before finding a camp spot for the night in a very CITO location. On Friday, we targeted the StARS (St Arnaud Ramble Series) and the higher quality, well-constructed geocaches that were famous here in St Arnaud, and got lucky with the 2019 published series that we managed to snag FTFs on. Sunday had us continuing to find the other sets of high-quality caches around the neighbouring town parks, the challenge series, before spending a few hours at geocaching HQ participating in the labs that had been published. The event was also great to see some of the South Australians honoured with geocaching life awards (in amongst everyone on the list). Our final day, Sunday, had us do a big loop finishing off our geocache collection, driving all the way out to Kooreh and around via Stuart Mill, walking the conservation park at Mount Gowar, and finishing off at the GIFF event. A massive weekend that turned out to be a great mega! Thanks to all those who organised the Mega and the associated events. The variety between the local high-quality caches, the new series placed by the mega team, and those who needed to be around for the labs and main centre fielding questions was appreciated immensely.
Today with our final day in St Arnaud, we went east and south focusing on some of the *Original Road* series, and the various geocaches that were placed along these routes. Once we did a loop through Stuart Mill, we did a final drive around the town vicinity, performed a hike around Mount Gowar, and then attended the final GIFF event. From there, we went separate ways from e.gregory1 and FeatherWaite, and made our way towards Horsham for the evening. This cache was found along the way as we detoured through the back roads. I'm not sure what the attributes are used for these days other than for challenges, but we actually used this geocache's camping attribute to visit and actually camp here tonight. It was a really cool location for a geocache (and for camping). The cache container and logbook were in good shape. Thanks tigersden for placing and maintaining this cache.

After St Arnuad, Freddo, Davidwazza and myself took off for Horsham, we stopped at some caches along the way, all the caches were quick finds and in good order
What a big trip this was! I headed over to St Arnaud for the 2019 Victorian mega with e.gregory1, Davidwazza, Featherwaite and Freddo for the long weekend.
The weekend was filled with a lot of finds ranging in puzzles, a few events and some very well constructed hides around the area.
Day 1: I headed over with e.gregory1 and featherwaite, with the aim to collect some unfound LGAs for the guys, with only a 500km drive to the mega from home we added an extra 450km to the trip by going over to Bendigo and further south exploring some regional towns, overall we added an extra 6 LGAs with only 18 finds for the day. Was great to see some of the interesting little towns and what they had to offer for future visits.
Day 2: As a group we hit the trails in St Arnaud as a group signing the logbooks as DEFF98 (Davidwazza, e.gregory1, Freddo, featherwaite and gridge98) to save a lot of room in the logbook. We started off with the geoart Stars and thought it would take most of the day, as we finished it in 2.5 hours we were a bit surprised so hit the well constructed caches in the south of the town in the bush throwing a CITO in the mix. All the caches were amazing and something you don’t see anywhere else. Adding in 15 FTFs along the way with: everlasting, crank1 and Pwola. The evening settled in and we headed into town for a buffet dinner and a catch up with some familiar faces.
Day 3:
After attending the GV2020 event for the morning we set off to hit the last of the trails left in town of the metal containers, followed by the challenges for the mega as well as quite a few trads around the back roads. We ended the day by having a go at the lab caches at the mega then off to the CITO. I don't think I have ever seen so mant people at a tip before. Topped off the day with an evening event.
Day 4: By today the town was almost cleaned out and only a few caches to find, so we did the last few caches within a rough 15km radius driving around finding the odd cache here and there. The GIFF was finished off the mega so we decided to head to Horsham for the evening.
Day 5: After leaving our camp site for the morning, we cached for the morning around Horsham collecting a few grads and a well earned swim. Then made the long drive back home to Adelaide.
Thanks to all the COs for their cache placements and the Geocaching Victoria crew for organising a fantastic weekend away.

Found during a visit to Horsham for the week. Today I headed north to complete a circuit of the area, enjoying the driving, the scenery and the caching! Thanks for the cache tigersden!
A quick and easy find on a rainy morning.
My god! The track in I would recommend a 4WD!
We survived the trip in, now to get out!

Suscoe's second day of caching in Horsham and the countryside around this region.
Another brilliant Winter's day.
Sunshine all day with a breeze from the north. The car said 17 was the top temp but it felt warmer at times.
Quiet locations for the caches that we visited and lots of fun as we wandered the back roads of this region.
Thanks to tigersden for this hide, with the road closed the bike came out and off Suscoe went.
Soon the reason for the road closure became evident, deep ruts full of water all the way along the side of the river.
Finally arrived, made the find with good co-ordinates today.
Yes the container has a hole in it but at least the hide will protect it a little.
Now for the muddy bike ride back to the car.

Good One! My first geocache! And one of my favorite spots! It’s a really nice reach of the river
We've been to this old weir twice by canoe. Once paddling out from town, and another time passing over it when the river was flowing a bit harder than it was today. And these were many years ago and probably before we knew about caching.
But every time I thought about approaching this cache from land it had been raining so I never quite got around to it.
Not any more. Muggle son recently got himself a mountain bike and has started visiting 'The Maze' circuit nearby to GZ. He was keen to get us along for a look. After cross matching his Strava map I knew I need to bring my caching tools (at least a pen!).
We started with a hair raising cycle along the edge of the river heading out of town. I'm not a huge fan of narrow bike paths on the side of the river bank where one wrong turn can put you into the drink.
After a much slower than average ride through 'The Maze' we paused while I quickly found the cache and reminded myself what the old weir looked like. Then started the hard slog back with a headwind and plenty of raised dust.
TFTC tigersden and giving me that little extra on my bike ride.

TFTC on overnight stopover and so did some caches we had not been able to do. Yes certainly dry weather road only sadly this route could be upgraded as it’s a good spot to visit
Found after a some four wheel driving in a 2 wheel drive car. Thn I had to get myself out again. TFTC.
Found It!
An interesting drive into this nice little spot I've never visited before! Thankfully the track was dry today - would have been a very different story in the wet!

St Arnaud weekend and I just had to be there because it is always such a cool and quality [^] weekend!
46 caches found and 4 events attended made for an awesome 3 day trip away and since there was a new cache trail at St Arnaud, well we all know that the caches were amazing, as always![^][^]
There were a few SA geocachers that I hadn't seen for ages and so it was lovely to catch up and cache with them [^]
Although the end of the trip involved an unexpected detour home through Horsham in case Rex, who had decided that a bloody large wriggly stick seemed like a fun toy to play with, required emergency vet work after he tried to touch noses with the big brown that was up and striking at him!
Thankfully Rex didn't need vet assistance [^] and he now seems to have a healthy fear of snakes (he even jumped away from a plastic crocodile head cache near Horsham[^]) and is much more aware in the bush (even better because the following weekend he found another big brown wriggly stick at the lake in the caravan park we live in and jumped away from it[^] )
If nothing else the drive to Horsham gave me a chance to find a cache that has always been in a flooded or wet area previously and inaccessible so that find was a bonus
Then it was a very late night [|)] trip back home via St Arnaud again to pick up a cache container that a friend had forgotten to pick up for another geocacher
As I have been about 8 months behind in logging, I'm resorting to template logs to catch up.
My heartfelt thanks to the COs who have placed some tricky, funny, exercise required, scary, interesting and devious caches in some amazing spots! [^]
Rex and I have had some amazing adventures and enjoyed some incredible moments thanks to this fantastic hobby

Been here many times but have been out of the game for a few years now, so never even thought to look. The old weir here used to supply doern via the channel to the west.
This was one of the caches we had not found due to the access road being listed as Dry Weather ONLY. We had experienced these types of roads in SA and were not sure our street car - a 2WD Kia Cerato, would be able to negotiate the track. We needn't have worried as Plati made its way slowly but surely along the track straddling the deep ruts and sticking to the harder surfaces while avoiding the softer sand.
After a slow journey in we made a quick find of the well hidden container. Extraction took a little while as there were thousands of smallants running up and down the tree trunk. The crevice where the cache hid was filled with them. After putting her hand in to try and remove the cache and getting it covered by ants that immediately started to bite Mrs Y'stassie resorted to using her walking pole to flip the container out. Container and contents were in good condition.
Thanks tigersden for this cache and for providing us with a challenging caching experience.

Thanks for the cache, nice neat little hide. Didn’t take long to find but took awhile to get there.
At last found this cache Has been on the find list for years Always been a bit wet and sloppy down this track.
But today nice and fine weather and soon had the cache in hand. Signed the log.

Can't believe we've lived about 3km from here for years and haven't been to the old weir. Beautiful spot, well worth the visit. We'll be coming back here!

With the fishing comp on this weekend we thought we would head up early and grab some caches before it starts. Thanks for highlighting the old weir. Tftc

Well what can I say??
To me this is what caching is about. Since I moved to St. Arnaud I have been to the big smoke or Horsham close to 100 or so times. Each time I drove past this little track and river without even giving it a glance. What an amazing place that will be well worth exploring in a lot more detail next time I am here.
I drove up and soon, thanks to the good coordinates, I had this cache in hand. However, I did have an issue. You see as I walked up to the cache my teeth felt decidedly dirty. Normally I run an impeccable hygiene routine, but today, nope. Yuck. What I really needed as a good flossing.
Well bugger me!!
Inside the cache was a small container of dental floss. Just what I was after. I grabbed the floss which had been pulled out slightly and flossed away; content.
Now of course I am just kidding for two reasons. 1) I don't do the swag thing in caches (it's one part of the game that never latched onto me) and 2), I had no need to floss. After all I had picked the remains of last night's meal from my teeth using a broken match.
Serious though. I cleaned out the floss from the cache (it looked pretty yuck) and removed two broken ziplock bags that had been stuffed in the hiding hole with the cache.
I had a read of the logbook...."Found by an old fisherman just taking a leak" caught my eye.
With everything right in the world again I was off. TFTC Tigersden, a ripper area.

Sadly unable to visit today as the road both ends was closed with official gates. Closed temporarily as a dry weather road only!
A miserable grey day that the locals hope will turn into some decent rain. Managed to grab the car while Pa was helping his cousin with some secret men's business, so decided to try for a couple more caches. This was the first on the list, and luckily it didn't start to rain until I was almost back out. Once at GZ it was an easy find - far too easy in fact as there was little in the way of a hide involved. So after signing log I returned the cache a little more secretively so that it wouldn't be muggled by the next group of party goers. What an interesting spot. Thanks for bringing me here as the local relies are more interested in work than showing us the countryside. TNLN SL TFTC tigersden

Trying to clean up few remaining horsham caches today. Easy find. Almost sprung by another cacher. Had a good chat with him. Dropped TB

Being such a good day I decided to head over Horsham way to grab some of the caches in the area so I could turn their icons into smilies.
What a track to take. but I managed to dodge all the deep ruts with my 2wd ute only to find that when I got to GZ there was another car parked near by. only to find it was a fellow cacher that had just made the find. after a good chat they were on their way and I still had to find the cache. once my name was in the log I just had to negotiate the minefield back to the black top.

Our second visit here, the first time the gates were locked. A good thing they do lock the gates as some of the potholes could hide a small car in them LOL.
A top place to visit, the frogs were in full voice, no other animals where seen or heard.
The cache is in good condition.

We took an anticlockwise approach around the swamp before coming to a padlocked gate with still nearly one kilometre to travel. I could have dismantled the flimsy fence and continued driving, but it appears someone wants to keep people out of here. We continued our anticlockwise loop until we were back where we started.
Road blocked/gates couldn't get close enough to it but I do remember the place.

Found on a visit to Horsham for the day. I must admit I had second thougts about approaching this one in my wifes nice newish car. If I was in my Triton it wouldnt have been a problem. However since my wife was not with me I decided to gingerly crawl along. Finally arrived at the GZ and found the Weir. Was good to see with water in the river instead of the other pics of a dry hole in the ground. Found an amusing muggle log in the logbook. I will try to post some pics when I get my camera inside. Thanks to Tigersden for bringing me to this interesting place.
Had a bit of trouble getting to this one at first- as no roads on gps to get there. Soon found a side road off riverside rd that led me along a mostly smooth (and sometimes bumpy) track to a nice tranquil GZ. Last log before mine on 15/10/13 was hilarious! 'found by an old fisherman taking a leak'!
Took the Geokids for a cruise along the river to this interesting cache. LOTS of activity along the river this Easter, campers, kayakers, and anglers. Nice weather too. We found the cache and checked out the "weir". It would be great to find out more info about this structure. TFTC tigersden.

Headed out this morning with a mates 4wd as I wasn't sure how my car (which is a wee bit too close to the ground) would cope. The road was a bit rough in places and had muddy potholes to negotoiate, it is great to have mates that allow you to take their pride and joy and go out caching. Nice part of the river and I never knew that this old weir was out this way. Nice easy find, thanks tigersden for the cache.
Nice easy find. Cache was on ground near GZ. Have re-hidden. Thanks for the long afternoon stroll.
Happy 2nd birthday to this cache. We found ourselves on the wrong side of the river still some distance from the cache so back tracked and found the way in. Luckily it hasn't been too wet. We eventually found our way to the site and the find was an easy one with no one around. A nice spot with some interesting ruins. SL TFTC
Nice easy find with the geomissus and geokids and the geodog got to have a nice run and we got lost on the way out lol thanks for the find
Found cache very exposed, which made it a little too easy to find. We have hidden it again where it obviously should have been.
Took small scales and left a platypus figurine.
Thanks for the find.

Found it!! My sole Leap Year Find, a nice little drive out of not so sunny Horsham, fortunately it was not raining yet. Had been to this spot a few weeks back, without gps or bearings and did not look at that time. A nice spot, some hard work has gone into the weir, amazingly the base rockworks have remained despite flooding in past.

The fire brigade urban junior state championships were held in Horsham this year and the Wenchette was competing. With so many teams she had a lot of down time between events so I was able to sneak out and find a few of the local caches I missed on my last trip over this way.
I have distinct memories of having been along here once before. I followed this track on a wet night a couple of years ago. It was a very slippery drive and I had to abandon the search for fear of spending a very long night extricating myself.
This time the tracks were very dry and the cache was found easily after a bumpy trip. The derelict remains in the river look like they formed a weir in days past. I cannot see why anyone would have a bridge in this location when the approach and departure are so uneven and steep.
Thanks Tigersden.

Well off the beaten track, this one turned out to be an easy find. Badly in need of some maintenance SLTNLN TFTC
Found by Mary & David at 0905. Delighted to get to this one after we found the access track closed back in March. Magnificent old trees. The old weir must have been a magnificent construction in its heyday. Our thanks to tigersden.
A lovely scenic area and an enjoyable cache. We added an additional log sheet. Thanks tigersden
The road was dry but there were a few wet patches. The Pahero ended up with a spray job of brown. The structure is still visible. Just. Great camping spot if it is allowed. Clear skies [^]
The pajero got to within 20m from the cache. The road has been wet and the car is suitably scattered with mud.
This would usually be a short walk, but due to roads being closed from being wet, was a nice 2km walk.
Found it, and first time I'd been in the area since the floods, very interesting to see,
The dry sheet left in there is nearing full, needs a new pad.
TFTC!

nice track into this one. Amazing how high the water has been recently. TFTC
A picturesque spot with water still flowing, near sunset and our last for the day TFTC tigersden
Drove in today, track is OK, but i would suggest 4WD or 2WD with clearance..
Original log is real wet, but thanks to IF for leaving a new page..

This was to have been our last for the day. After working out the best-looking approach on the map, we headed off the highway only to run into a 'temporarily closed' sign (because of water damage) where the dirt road began. No idea how long temporary is, or whether there might be other approaches. We'll come back another time.
The gates to the area were open despite the sign suggesting otherwise.
I suspect the locals had cut the chain, but an open gate is an open gate
It was quite dry and dusty along the main track to GZ.
Just a couple of small muddy puddles to dirty up the recently washed geomobile [:o]
Down by the weir or what ever it is I found the cache..... yuk !!
As expected it didn't stay high and dry
Nothing I could do about the log book, so I aired out the rest of the cache and left a fresh log page in a plastic zippie bag to proclaim my find
TFTC in a nice place [^]

Great location. I love discovering new locations close to home. Didn't love the mozzies though. TFTC.
While staying in Horsham thought we'd wander down and find this one. Last time we were here was around the flooding time so not good for caching by the river.
Had a good walk. Picked up trackable and left trackable.
Thanks for the cache.

Was a good easy one with the kids. We had to be careful as there were some muggles in the vicinity. Dropped off a trackable (girl with no name) & hope she enjoys her adventure.
Good to knock this one off my list as it has been sitting there awhile during some very wet weather was good to see that the cache was still there in good order.
Did this cache while out for a bit of caching with datruck.

After making my way to Horsham I teamed up with fellow cacher, Honeysucker, and headed out to clean up the local caches.

We were so surprised when we found this one on the geocaching maps, its right across the river from our cousins house nwhere we stay! We loaded up the family into the tarago, and drove to the island. We all got out and walked across the weir. (This weir has been in the local newspaper, when the river had alot of rain, My uncle got on in the paper in the photo) Quickly located by the middle-cousin when across the river. They actually planted alot of the growing trees too. It was good for them to have a reason to cross the river again. So a very good find for us, TFTC!

Found by Roma and Max.
Recent rain made this one a challenge although the gate was open so we decided to go as far in as practical then walk.
However the track proved to be negotiable and we made this one a drive by.
Thank you again tigersden for this experience.
This was our 10th and last find today and our 460th FTF.
