After finishing the OGR adventure I had to start the fun part of hitching back to the start..decided to get of road half way along the track thinking only 1 bridge was closed...luckily it held my wait and the cache was soon found before going through the tunnel...stopped at the end of the track waiting for my ride...awesome 5 days on the road..

Stopped to do this little walkway as we left town. Nice flat walk but from this side of bridge we could not see chasm.
A nice easy find when you count from the right end. Thanks for the cache

Started this cache at Seddonville end. The bridges are closed so had to go back and start from the other end. Opps. My 6 year old came with me and he just loved this cache, going through the tunnel, and he was the one that the cache for me. Thanks so much for putting this cache here. Great spot.

With the bridge closed we headed in one way, and back another. Wish I'd taken a photo near the bridge, the views were (yet again) awesome. Cache was tracked down as per the hint.
T F T C weenz

Onto the next part of the trip, we headed around the local-ish area in the van and cached out where we could without heading too far afield. Some more good caches and some more good sights that were seen.

This weekends activities was a treat. A weekend trip across to the West Coast and a double dip at two tracks over that way. Day 1 was to be Charming Creek out of Hector and up to Seddonville with a van collecting us from the track end. Day 2 was to be a dabble at the end of the Old Ghost Road which thus far I'd only glanced longingly at, following a 'did not happen' organised trip which was switched off late into the planning.
We set off from a sulky grey Blenheim and as we headed through the Buller River area the weather steadily improved until arriving at Westport the sun blazed it's very best. Along for the trip were a few from Base, and Ricardinho who had not been out this way before.
We were onto the track just after 1230 and came off the top end around 3 hours later. A gently rising and well formed tracks with great views, historical vale and information as well as renovated relics, discarded relics, and 23 caches. We only DNFd the one which is almost certainly missing and grabbed caches from a variety of COs. Awesome trip and I would say the best short walk I've done in NZ.
We followed all this activity up with a later trip out in the van into the surrounding area and grabbed a few more for a decent haul of 34 for the day. Good for the numbers and good for the diversity and enjoyment, as well as a 10KM plus walk.

23-Feb-19
An easy find for Capperz. We arrived and departed from different directions as the bridge was closed, but all good here. Stunning view of the river below. TFTC weenz.

I got the invite from Capperz to go for a tramp this weekend with a few other keen souls from his work’s outdoor adventure group.
The target area was the Charming Creek walkway on day one, while on the second day we planned a taster of a few hours on the Old Ghost Road. Good news for me as I have not been up here before, so it was all new unexplored territory.
We had decent digs in Seddonville on the Saturday night as well so made use of the this and the van to get a few others in this area and nearby Mokihinui.
We’d kept an eye on the weather forecasts, but in the end it worked out pretty well. Saturday was stunning, and Charming Creek was a picture. I cannot recommend this walk enough - it is an easy gradient, has great views and history dotted along it and is well maintained.
Sunday morning dawned wet - no problem for us, but not so great for some of the others camping down the road. However, once on the OGR it had cleared up, and by the time we did our out-and-back it was quite warm. Back in the van and back to base by 5 ish.
All up a fun trip, and thanks again to the COs for bringing us here.

11-Jan-19
Enjoyed a short walk through here. Even though the bridges are closed you can still access the cache as it is before the first bridge, if coming from the end closest to the highway. This walk had a little bit of everything. Thanks for bringing us here!

08-Jan-19
Bridges still closed so unable to access.

10-Nov-18
Having just spent 5 days walking The Old Ghost Road (& one very comfortable night at the Rough and Tumble Lodge) we somehow had the energy to cache our way home.
We found 18 and had one DNF, and then wilted and stayed the night in Reefton rather than continuing to Christchurch.

I'm afraid I'm going to continue the cut and paste logs, but at least the weather improved so we could actually open containers without them filling with water (all logs signed Wink). Speaking of which; we signed the logs BRN (Bo&bronnie, Rincewind3, and Not Manly Jack) to save time and space in the log books.

I'm afraid we didn't actually walk the track. We parked closer to GZ than that, to suss it out, then Bo decided to bush bash down to the track. I'd told him the hint so he decided it would be *on* the bridge (see pic).
Hint: it's not.
Hint 2: it's easier to work that out if the person holding the GPSr/phone is down there too.
Once I made my way down there, after unwrapping the bush lawyer from around my waist, it became obvious where we should be.
After that we crossed the bridge, made the quick find. Then it was another bush bash straight back up to the road, and on to the next cache.

TFTC (& the "adventure") weenz Cool

Cool breeze brrr. Thank you

Easy find, bit tricky to get too with the bridges closed, I'm sure DOC will open them for summer tftf

The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and I are on another 4 day exploration of the Upper West Coast. Charming Creek Walkway is bagged but its still daylight so time for more exploring.
Another walkway. Have to check this out. Saw the bridge briefly while driving past. Missed the entrance so its a u-turn up the road. Love the huge tunnel here. Amazing. Pity the bridge is closed. The hint here saved us many hunting hours. snagged and tagged. Cheers

01-Jun-18
Taybeedragon and I are on a 4-day trip to the northern West Coast. Lots of walking, lots of caching. Just finished hte Charming Creek railway, and what the heck, let's do another. I love how these old rail lines are being given new life as walkways. Alas the bridge has been closed here (still looks safe, though...) but the rest of the track and the tunnel are all good. Gets a favourite from me, even though we could not walk to the end. I noticce the track was not on the map, so I plotted it on the GPS and will update the maps in a few days.

25-Apr-18
The path is closed at the moment

05-Apr-18
Found while on a walk from the Seddonville Hotel. The walkway is well boarded up and heavily fenced but an approach from the up stream end is manageable and avoids the mucky wade through the tunnel. TFTC

07-Jan-18
Parked at the correct end of the track to access the cache and made our way towards it. There was more seepage inside the tunnel raining down on us, than outside with the showery weather. We managed to be driving between caches whenever a shower of rain went over. Cache was quickly located and signed then we made our way back to the car. tftc

31-Dec-17
#15089. We overshoot the parking coords on our way in (Troodles thought she was navigating to the parking coords but was actually navigating to the cache coords. No matter; we stopped on our way out (though by they light rain had started). We made good time to GZ (even through the tunnel) and made a quick find once there. TFTC.

31-Dec-17
Found with StreetWalker on our week long post Christmas trip to Reefton and the West Coast. Day 6: Karamea to Waimangaroa.
Unfortunately, overshot the parking co-ords on our way up the valley as I was navigating [:0] - this is why I usually drive and SW navigates - so stopped on the way back to the main road. By this stage, it was drizzling steadily so we donned rain jackets and set off. Lost satellite reception going through the tunnel and didn't get it back until the walk back, so appreciated the good hint.
Pity the bridge was deemed too dangerous to cross, but could still get an appreciation of the gorge. Fabulous walk, thanks for bringing me here and TFTC.

12-Dec-17
Had spotted the track entry for this one in the morning, dropping off a car to do the Charming Creek walk. A short walk to a scenic place - clearly a must do, so on the way back we made a point of stopping. Loved the cutting festooned with ferns, and fun going through the tunnel. Then some counting - climbed up to the top layer as instructed and searched fruitlessly - then climbed back down and went for the more easily reachable spot with success. A nice way to end the day, thanks weenz!

12-Dec-17
This really was the highlight of the day.Such a lovely little walk. We came from the correct direction and if you stand back there are some higher levels so it took more than a moment to locate the cache. well worth the visit.

26-Apr-17
Nice walk on track. Easy find.

30-Mar-17
Our last cache before checking in at Seddonville and what a beauty.
Very pleasant walk. Neat tunnel and then on to look at the creek running under the bridge.

TFTC! What great find with the kids!

21-Nov-16
Wow - that is one fantastic wee walk. I noticed this entrance as I drove past earlier and then did get to within 25 metres on the road. Then I saw another entrance on the way back this afternoon so stopped but came to the bridge closed sign so I looked up the great map on my GPS and sure enough the cache was on the other side of the river from there. So back along the road to the better advertised entrance. Loved every second of this walk - the vivid colours, the delicate and stunning waterfall, the walled bits and of course the tunnel. It was all brilliant! And then of course there was a cache - the icing on the cake but it would've been a great walk even without it. Magic! TFTC #9685

A cool highlight to finish. Tftc

This spot was on the to-do list and managed to get it done right before we headed home after our weekend away. Mr hunter spied the hide instantly, TFTC!

28-Feb-16
Parked at the Seddonville end of the track only to find two bridges stood between me and the cache. The bridges looked sturdy enough to me so I carefully climbed the barrier and gingerly walked over. No creaking boards or shaking, funny that the track between the two is still being maintained if you aren't supposed to cross them. Cache found quickly and returned the way I'd come although I did get up onto the road which meant I could avoid one of the bridges. TFTC

I spied the bridge yesterday on our way to the start of the Charming Creek walkway and told Chocochunk I wanted to stop. He must not have heard me. But today my voice was heard. What a treat!! Wow!!! Shame the bridge is closed, but the walk leading up to it is 5 star! It was so hot today I was ready to jump through a clearing into the river. One of our boys isn't up to walking too far, so we did not make our way over to access the fantastic paradise to take a swim. Such a shame. Another time. Thanks for placing this cache!

07-Feb-16
Found this with Mporokosa and Truffles (our Geocache-mutt). Walking in we met two darling 'older people' attending the Waitangi weekend Seddonville reunion. One of them explained that her father had built the tunnel we walked through. TFTC. A favourite experience and view.

28-Jan-16
Quick find Smile Nice walk - sad that the bridges are closed. This was our cache Nummer 500! Yeah! Thanks for the cache Smile

05-Jan-16
It is a shame that the bridges down stream are closed as this is a lovely walk. We went back to the start of the track and walked through the lovely old tunnel. The cache was hidden well. TFTC.

05-Jan-16
Missed this one on the way through, decided to stop on the way back. Another beautiful walk. TFTC

05-Jan-16
We had two goes at approaching this from the road, one on the way up the valley, the second on the return. We were thwarted this morning by the bridge that has been so thoroughly boarded up as to put off even the most adventurous. - -- One would wonder why the bridges are closed as they look exceptionally solid to me. - - - So we started at the beginning of the walkway and walked the four hundred and some metres to the cache. How stupid we were to try and avoid this walk!!!! It's awesome - - - and an absolute bonus was to spot a powelliphanta as we returned to the cachemobile. Thanks for bringing us here Smile!

30-Dec-15
Fantastic terrain tftc

26-Oct-15
Nice one; we biked in and through the tunnel, as we discovered the day before that the bridges are blocked off the other way! Good one, thanks.

25-Oct-15
Good find and to stretch the legs after a busy day out exploring the countryside.

27-Jan-15
Great little walk for kids - but you can't at present get all the way through the track as the bridge at the 1/2 way mark is closed due to safety.

Unfortunately didn't find this geocache.....maybe next time

23-Dec-13
Quick easy find this time, was washed away last time. Sad that the bridge is now closed and the track is getting rather poor. Thanks for the hide.

20-Feb-13
A pleasant walk along the first part of the walkway. After our Fenian Cave experience, we took 2 torches for the tunnel, but these were unnecessary, although we did get dripped on. A quick easy find, then we had a look at the closed bridge. TFTC

16-Feb-13
Bridge closed signs are still up but it we knew that the last lot of cachers managed to get through anyway. The cache is actually before the bridge so the sign doesnt seem to apply to those going just the this first cache like us. We left the torches in the car but the tunnel isnt very long and is really wide that you dont really need it. 25/41 caches found today. Thanks for the cache Smile

16-Dec-12
Despite signs stating the bridges were closed and said bridges being "boarded" across we still managed to find and sign this cache. This is a walk we have enjoyed in the past. TFTC.

16-Dec-12
Another one of my favourite walks but found the bridges closed for safety. Oh well, got to GZ anyway and got the smilie. TFTC

09-Dec-12
This was a great walk to grab this one

09-Dec-12
Great walk in the tunnel .Few walkers around on a fine Sunday Big Grin

06-Oct-12
Sign at both ends warns of closed bridge....that is a PC joke. Looks fine. We would walk it but fluked coming via the tunnel.....which was welcome when a huge hail shower hit. A photo buff was sheltering there, having just walked the bridge. Took some cunning to get the cache without him knowing.

19-Aug-12
Found this cache on 6th April 2012.. Forgot to log!

21-Jul-12
three years ago the bridge was still open and there was no cache here Smile today we got the cache but were stopped by a sign which said the bridges are now closed Sad

Great cache after a fantastic walk. We had a superb family picnic overlooking the beautiful Mokohinui River on one of those priceless West Coast days. I used to live at Seddonville many many years ago and had forgotten how great this area is. TFTC

Took a fairly direct route, and found easily. Lovely spot Smile

23-Oct-11
Went the direct route (see photo). Initially confused by multiple possible interpretations of the clue but eliminated possibilities, back to first principles and a FIND. TFTC

23-Oct-11
I overshot the bottom carpark so we carried on up to the top end and walked back. A Very cool walkway along the old railway line with the bridges, tunnel and stunning scenery adding to the fun. After locating the cache the rest of the family continued on through while I backtracked to pick up the car before meeting up with them at the bottom carpark. I would recommend a visit to anyone - and definately worthy of a favourite point so thanks for bringing me here. TFTC - 4 of 19.

16-Oct-11
A sudden diversion by Stretch0 lead us to this great walkway ( will come back to see where the walkway ends when we have more time !!!) Such an intersting walkway and such a deep creek - took lots of photos and thoroughly enjoyed the walk along the old railway track - tghanks so much for bringing us here and the cache Smile

Had seen this cache name on the list of ones to do but it was not what we had the GPS set on and without warning to Niteowlnz i made an on the spot change of plans and headed to this one. We were really glad we did. A nice walk enjoyed all the more as it was flat Smile. Some great photo spots and was able to marvel at the work to put these areas in Smile Will have to return when staying up this way and explore more of this walkway Smile TFTC
