Sorry the fun is over. Big chunks of poor Janie have been seen falling off in the last little while and it has been recommended that climbing aboard is no longer safe. So. Sadly, I have no alternative but to archive this cache. Thanks for the favourite points and all those wonderful logs. Glad you all enjoyed it so much.
Found on our way from St Arnaud to Collingwood. While everyone hopped and skipped their way out to the boat, once the lily pads stopped so did the crew. It was up to Mr EU to complete the final metres to the cache, and of course enjoy the health benefits of the terra firma! TFTC
Was here a week ago but things turned to custard when a small crab ran over the bare foot of my young caching friend, he starting screaming, his father in the car thought i was trying to kill him and starting screaming so i abandoned the adventure 3 metres from GZ. Back today with a more mature support crew and soon had the cache in hand. Mum grew up here and had never been out to the wreck. Thanks for bringing us here and a fun adventure

I haven't laughed so hard in ages! Big Fuzzy gallantly offered to walk through the mud to get the cache while I stood on the beach in fits of laughter until I noticed the rock path and skipped across to meet him! Great fun to wander around on the old boat. TFTC.
Found this great cache on my birthday. Thanks for offering such a nice adventure.
After being born and growing up in Motueka, today was the first time I have ever actually crossed the mud and climbed aboard the Janie Seddon. When I was kid some friends and I caught a little shark near here. My timing for crossing the mud was perfect and I chose the easier stone path then climbed up into the wreck and went searching….in the wrong place. Something wasn't right - I was using an old GPX. My iPhone corrected the situation and I soon had the cache. A few others were keen enough to follow me out into the mud but I have no idea if they were after the cache as I was back onshore as they were boarding. I checked out the nearby historical marker which I found to be an interesting read before attempting to clean my fathers gumboots. Thanks for getting this one back up and running Ro. It was a great adventure and my first ship wreck cache, plus it brought me back out here after a long time. A favourite point awarded.
[Green] In Motueka from Palmerston North for a bit of a family gathering over Christmas. Man it is hot today! Decided to do some Christmas Day caching before the Christmas Day obligations kick in.
Discovered it is low tide so parked the bike, took off my socks and shoes and went wading. Decide to climb aboard, figuring that wherever it is hidden, from inside is bound to be easier (which it is). Oh no! I left my pen behind! Decided to grab the cache, wade back to the bike, sign then wade back to the boat to replace the cache. There is a pencil in the cache! THANK YOU!!

Found it. Good fun with the kids exploring the boat. Took a while to find and reach the cache, but we were having fun, muddy feet and all!
With a little encouragement, this one is up and running again. Description and hint have been changed slightly.
I went along as a "booster" for Sidewaze...it was only possible for one of us to climb on the boat, given height, circumference and the fact that there were no kitchen steps involved...you can guess my role in the exercise...yes, in lieu of kitchen steps, I "boosted" and ended up standing in the mud for sometime while cache maintenance and some photography was carried out by Sidewaze. To fill in time I took some photos of my own.
The stepping stones were the easy part, especially since I'm in runners! Man it would have looked funny watching this one armed (cast) cacher getting in! Man that was hard! Timed this perfect tonight since I was dropped off for an evening walk, glad this is still structure safe! Great cache, now theres millions of crabs for company back. thanks
The tide was well out today. It still looked pretty sludgy and I only had my hiking boots. Oh well, lets give it a go because I have driven past this cache once too often. Luckily I found the "path" which ended at a "clamber" point. What fun walking on the wreck. Inside to cache and then on top back to the egress point. I did have a moment where I wondered if I really did know my port from starboard but managed to spot the prize before I completely doubted myself.
Definitely a favourite.

The kids made it out to the Janie Seddon & had a good look around. Couldn't find anything. Nice & muddy feet though:) They loved it!
Well 1st off missed seeing the easy way, thought it was lucky had on my gumboots only to get them stuck in the mud so I was down to my socks. Mr Cacher soon had the find(thank-goodness) & easily made our way back. Great sight to see. TFTC
Great spot, my brother couldn't find it, but I proved to him that I'm a better at finding Geocaches than him.
Awesome place for a cache, love exploring old shipwrecks. PS, disregard what Knowlesie.24 said, he's lying.
Noted the tide was way out so I seized the opportunity to do this while passing through Mot this afternoon .. WOW! Awesome wreckage to explore & photograph ..
Thanks for bringing me here Sidewaze, and to those who commented about the stepping stones which I used as I only hand my good running shoes with me .. Someone saw me on the boat and also decided to come out, only they took the mud route, and regretted it lol
Definitely worth a fav!

Was the right time of day...Gumboots in hand or on foots...attack. Found. signed. leaving carefully when I grabbed onto something which turned out to be the other ones gumboot, which was covered in the proverbial. Fun fun. TFTC
The adventure and the laughs we had with this one was worth it even it ended the day's caching! Janie was the name of MacPacMum's doll in childhood, so thought would head there. Saw that we had timed it right and MacPacMum gave MacPacDad her camera, put on the gumboots and headed toward the prize with determination. About five steps later, the gumboots stayed and MacPacMum kept going in her brand new jeans, first time into the grey sticky mud - and MPD missed the photo! Pulling herself out laughing she headed for a stonier route that lead her (about) 1/2 way there to the stepping stones that she should have been using. Using her Port is left, Starboard is right mantra because Port wine is red - look for the red light wasn't going to help here, she disappeared out of sight from MacPacDad. He then decided that he could get there using those handy stepping stones and came out (scraping his arm getting in) only to find MacPacMum had got out the small camera and going snap happy not caching at all. Both headed towards the stern (MPD banging head and scraping the other arm) to get the cache. MPD find. He headed back on the lower levels and MPM went over the top to have the Titanic moment on the bow. A definite favourite from us and we will post some photos when we have access to broadband again.
17:50 - Nice adventure this boat TFTC

This has to be the craziest thing we have done for a while. The mud sucked my shoes off!! Was not cold fortunately sober squelched our way around and found the cache. We are now all cleaned up and ready to go again. TFTC
We found this one really hard to find for some reason...um probably because I dont know my starboard from my port...and GPS was playing up..Finally found it..Container has no lid but contents log was dry.
Thanks, I hear mud is good for the skin..

What a beauty. With wandercat. Having bogged our muddy way around the hulk. We had lunch and half an hour later noted a young female cacher from Finland trip lightly out to the hulk in jandals, climb nimbly inside and hit GZ. Timing is everything.
Arrived in time for lunch but as the tide was out decided to forgo eating and tackle the cache first.....should of waited as I think the tide had only just turned. On with the gum boots and off we went carefully stepping from one nicely placed stone to the next....but they ran out and wandercat was soon firmly stuck in the mud up to her knees. The extraction kept shore based observers amused. A full circuit of the hull established the cache position and posed the big question of how to reach it. Eventually the log was signed and we retreated to our motor home for lunch.
Arrived at the site and found tide right out so walked out on the rocks that some thoughtful person had placed on the mud - unfortunately still had to get muddy for the last few steps. Easy find once aboard the wreck.
I waded a little bit and it took me a while to find this cache, but I enjoyed it a lot in extraordinary place like this.. something new for me. Nice cache, thanks!
Found the tide right albeit a wee bit gloopy.Climbed aboard, but the GPS did'nt want to play the game.Hunted for a wee while, and finally spied the little rascal.Womble Terry realy enjoyed the scramble out to the Wreck.TFTC
We've been looking to do this one for a while, just taken sometime to get the tides right and the gumboots in the right place. What an awesome spot! Great fun to come out and explore this wreck. Great views from the aft deck and big plans for a rum drinking pirate party on here one day….
LOVE IT! Awesome adventure finding this one, check out this photo album...Brilliant. TFTC https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10152250283095273.929945.834190272&type=3
took us some while climbing barefoot around the wreckage! didn't plan the trip so got wet cold muddy feet, but it was worth it T4TC! Nik from PT13
We didn't found it but we have had a lot of fun.
The impression to play in "Fort Boyard", a french game.
If the rain stops, we will probably try to find it again.

On a cachertour in Motueka we stoped at this place. We have been waiting for better weather to walk in the Abel Tasman Nationalpark and what is better than geocaching...
We explored the wreck but our gps batterie was empty. So we couldn't find it. But it is a great spot. Thanks for the fun

This has been a long time coming. Mrs got within 5m of the wreck on 16 12 2010 - SoBad had come to his senses earlier - and we said we would be back with gumboots. Since then we were at the wrong time for tides or too busy or too well dressed. Today this was the target cache so we had checked the tides and had our suitable footwear. SoBad had been first to embark so Mrs stayed in the mud... until it hadn't been found. With support she too clambered aboard to help -and ended up watching the retrieval. Not the only mud walk we have done for a cache but one of the best. But why did there have to be three people on the path just as we emerged from the beach - before the mud could be washed off! Not much you can say really. Also found the convenient puddle. Thanks - a favourite for the fun.

Oh hell, what do you do at 11pm in Motueka on a Thursday night? Well, you put the gummies on, grab the hiking poles, and mud plug out to the Janie Seddon! It's many years since I played on this wreck as a kid and though I wasn't so keen to revisit on a moonless night there was a cache waiting to be found. Returning to dry land had it's hiccups when first I got stuck then Hazedarus did after coming to my rescue. Eventually we were back at the car and used the big puddle on the side of the road to clean some mud off aforementioned gummies and poles. TFTC.
On a night caching run with Holymu. No moon but a stunningly bright starry night without the ambient light of 'the big smoke'. The cache was on the list, taken off for the risc factor doing it in total darkness then put back on again when passing. The approach was through thick mud and a bit of a mission but there was a cache waiting out there to be found! After careful inspection the cache was found and log signed. The return trip was slightly less strenuous after we found the better route. A great little adventure! TFTC
Scramble across the mud was easier than the find I thought! Awesome to finally come out here tho.

Came here this morning on a day's caching in the region. Wasn't sure whether I would be able to get to it but the tide was well out. Wore heavy leather tramping boots and with the soft mud even these sank in quite a few centimetres. Climbed up into the stern and found the well-concealed cache after about 10 minutes of hunting in likely locations. All good and dry inside. Interesting old vessel and history. Signed log, TFTC - enjoyed the cache and well worth a favourite point. Climbed back down again and discovered the stepping stones which made things a bit easier on the return trip to shore although still had to traverse some fairly deep mud to get to them.
A lovely day to go out and get this at lunch time. Didn't have much trouble finding cache and had it after a little search. Was a great spot for a cache. Thanks heaps for the cache =)
Been to caches all around and about this fine old lady nice to board today and check her out, got a bit muddy till I found the sepping stones
An interesting cache test ones skills in the sticky mud flats. Great spot for a cache/ TFTC
A classic spot visited at night.
Took a bit of searching in the dark but I cam up with the goods. TFTC.

This area is all-way's so muddy and sticky compared to other areas, not that you see much in the dark. it is a great spot for a cache.

A bit disappointed in ourselves… no issues getting to the Janie Seddon, however we couldn’t find anything remotely resembling a cache near the obvious hint objects. Must book ourselves into the local eye clinic for a checkup. Many thanks for a fun filled muddy mission, we will be back.
Cannot believe this cache has NO FAVOURITE POINTS! - well now it has one. Nice wade out to cache site. Water only a bit above knee height so quite manageable. Enjoyed exploring the wreck. Up on top was surprised how much it rocked with the little waves hitting it. Will post photos when home. Thanks for the cache - really was a highlight of the day.
I've been waiting for an opportunity to do this one for a while now. Decided the time and tide was right today but it was still a muddy, splodgy trudge to GZ. Logging now I really love the pics that sp8sm8 has put up for his attempt at this. Cool, TFTC, Biggles.
That was a mission and a half! The tide had only just gone out, so the mud was rather thick and liquid, to put it mildly! We persevered, and it even took us a while to spot, but no chance of going back with it unfound. Got it! Don't forget to BYO pen, luckily we had one.
There's a picture of this in our unit, and Mrs Sp8 decided she wanted to practice some photography. Realising the tide was right I readily agreed. After letting her get some shots off, I started the trek out, giving her another subject to practice on. About 1/2 way decided to abandon the footware and painfully carried on (theres some sharp shells under that mud) Eventually realised where I needed to be and once there soon had the cache in hand.
TFTC, great fun.

This without doubt is one of my favourite caches...so far. Shame the tide was coming in but it was great fun.
I was in town doing a bit of cache maintenance and threw the gumboots in as well to get this off my need to do list.Tide was right and found cache after a bit of a search.Been a long time since i last climbed this as a kid.TFTC
Tried the wings to get over the mud, but there were no thermals to substain flight.
Got within 10m of the cache, but had to retreat without the boots.

Knew we wouldn't have a lot of time in Motueka, so figured this had to be the cache to get.
Bit of a squelch through the mud, with the kids following, but got there in the end.

bare feet squelching through black mud, but great find after learning boat terms. Great seagull nest complete with eggs (on stern!)
An interesting place for a cache. A bit of a struggle and scramble to get to gz but co-ords were spot on and thankful of the precise hint. Thanks.
Mrs Sobad had jandals and got to within 5m before opting out. Sobad had shoes and didn't even go that far.The tide was right so it was worth a go - although it took a while to get rid of the mud. We will return with gumboots!!
No problem with the walk out there but no luck in trying to find the cache, my only DNF for the day too!
this cache has been on the back burner for a while, as each time we go to do it the tide was in.
today luck was with us and it wasn't long before the cache was in our hands
great cache

I listened very carefully at the recent event, and even that didn't help me. I though I'd have to DNF it again when I realised that for Worker to have seen it, it would have to be... THERE. Relief. Cool cache. Amazed that usakiwi got in and out twice. Tip of the hat for that Jerry. Awesome cache! TFTC
Nice One!!!!!!!!!One of the best for the sheer joy of getting muddy, climbing in and out of an historic wreck, having to revisit three times before making the find, having to live with the taunts of the other half who thinks you are an idiot and best of all..... just being a kid again. This cache is what caching is all about. Well done! Thanks
Got here sometime after low tide, so took the shoes off and waded out and climbed into the wreck. Had a fair hunt to find the cache but eventually came up with the goods. Not necessarily the easiest for us normal sized folk to reach Getting back out was fun as the tide had come in a little in the few minutes I'd been there, but was not yet up to the bottom of the shorts. Cheers Gav [7009]
Well this one definitely goes down in our book as one of the more memorable caches we've done. [Why do I never have my camera with me for those Mintie moments?] Mr AK marched briskly into the mudflats in gumboots with his trusty GPS in one hand, taking no notice of the depth of the mud. He promptly got BOTH gumboots firmly stuck six inches into the mud then extracted one socked foot out of the gumboot, tried valiantly for several minutes to keep his balance, arms (and one leg) flailing, then plunged his free hand into the mud, saving the trusty GPS from extinction. I never knew he could come up with so many rude words such a short space of time. It was like watching a game of Twister on sinking sand. Meanwhile I was being my usual supportive self on the sidelines, nearly laughing myself into incontinence. Finally I pulled myself together enough to help him (I wouldn't have minded so much if he hadn't used my love handles to support himself) and together we squelched our way out to GZ. Eventually the cache was in hand and it all seemed worthwhile in the end! This one is definitely for the more adventurous geocacher and not for the faint hearted. If there was a Humour level on caches as well as Difficulty and Terrain, this one would be a 10. Thanks for giving us such a hilarious experience!
What a hoot. I wonder if any onlookers thought you were a tad crazy So glad you found the cache to make it all worthwhile. Some people have been a bit challenged by this one.
Thanks Ricklc. Seems like this little number has been here all along. May the searching resume!
There seem to be issues here so will disable it until we get a chance to check it out.
I searched all through this old wreck. I know I was at the right end but I wasn't absolutely sure what the object in the clue referred to and I didn't find the cache. Bunch of seagulls had a session divebombing mewhile I was on the top deck. The old tub never had so much fun! Cheers.
worker took scenic route, got stuck, and by the time bum extracted her, she was rather grubby. She spotted the cache and left bum to sign while she squelched back to clean up
Too good for Mr B today. Will wait until it's found again and the sun dries the approach during a hot windy day.
nice walk in the mud while other half of team stayed on beach second time lucky thanks
1550hrs A grubby trip in almost bare feet. Met up with USAKiwi who was looking at the time and had to leave. Kept looking and guess what it was right where it was supposed to be. The Italian Job was here......! Our blog www.motorhominginxs.blogspot.com
Found this one with Orange Flame who did a dive into the mud when he became stuck very very funny TFTC
MMMM after getting my second FTF today was just going to drive by this one but the call of a further FTF was to much for me and i Dragged my good wife out to Sea. Luckily it was low tide and with gumboots in the wagon it was slippery muddy trip to find!! A quick search on board with failing light Just as it was getting dark cache was in hand and i had #3 for the day. Word of warning take something to write with !!! Luckily i had a pen with me
Who said cachers arent mad !!! Especially wayward husbands that suddlenly stops and says "the gumboots are in the back " and there should be just enough light - which found us trudging out armed with torch in case he was wrong - luckily cache was found with the last of the light and trudged our way back - home for tea and no more caches for today - not to bad for an unplanned outing thanks for the cache
