Redeemed fairly quickly. Not shaw about the volcanic glass?! OCW Brewmaker. TFTC OneOneSix
Found with EverestHigh.
One of my favourite movies, but the Stephen King novella it is based on is even better. We bush bashed our way from the end of Pembroke Ave to GZ, following a bit of trail through the ferns. Searched a bit before I found it in a little crevice. The volcanic rock was inside. Redemption for us!' TFTC

Searched along the 10 meters of 'wall' between the 2 major formations..
Searched the 2 major rock structures, even the damn log..
Nothing. Not a hint of glassed lava..

I didn’t find it but am not logging a DNF, it should be a Did Not Get Close. I hadn’t read the logs so didn’t know how to get to it. I tried first from the NE the Sheldon Forest, then the end of Pembroke Ave and then up from Comenarra Parkway and Avondale Dam. The last clearly has no way through. The first two I found two potential ways down, but was not sure if I would be able to get back up so turned back. Having read some of the longs I know what I should have done. Another time, maybe.
Went for a 12km walk to pick up three D/T combos that are missing from my grid within my local area. Skipped plenty of caches on the way past but unlike pokemon, you don't gotta catch them all. This one wasn't really on the list but I was passing by on the walk and it had a fair bit of unloved attached so I figured I'd see if the day was going to be lucky or not.
I had a quick look where my GPS and phone both wanted me to be and came up empty handed. A quick check of the logs showed that the most recent visits were both experienced cachers and both DNFs so I thought I might need to add to the list. Figured I'd spend 5-10 minutes and expand my search a little and then - not long after I had a small pice of volcanic glass (temporarily) in my hand and my name perminantly in the log.

Has been on my radar for some time as I love the book.
Came in today chasing a lost beastie. Had quite a good look around but didn't find it, perhaps Andy has come back to collect it.

Tried to find this cache today but it looks like the trail is blocked from debris from the recent rain.
A caching outing in and around Turramurra and Lane Cove NP. I was in the area to pick up some second hand sporting gear and while here I wanted to do some caching in these unspoiled parts, plus making sure I finally get Australias oldest cache!
I had an awesome time, mostly doing caches in the bush. I had all the bush completly to myself and even if some of the walks where not far from houses (and all right in civilisation) it still felt like a real nature outing.
This cache:
Coming from the caches to the caches to the northeast this was a short drive to get close to the coords . But I had no idea of how bad the terrain would be....turns out that this was a perfectly easy acess with a decent cleared waY, dare I say path, to get to GZ. Qick find, nice cache in a nice spot, all in good order.
Thank you OneOneSix for putting the cache out and maintaining it.

Great spot and a neat hide. For some reason I tried instinct before the GPS coords. The coords were the better bet. Another good sized container so I left a TB. TFTC.
A perfect morning to come caching. Not too hot, not too cold, not too humid.
I did intend to get up earlier this morning and come grab a cache before getting to something productive however the snooze button must have magically pressed itself.
After parking at the end of Pembroke Ave i headed down the hill to the GZ. It took me a little while to zero in on the cache location and i was going in circles before i finally spotted the hiding spot.
I had to vacate the area pretty quickly as the mozzies were beginning to swarm and i kind of like my blood where it is thank you very much.
Thanks.

Found this with TheJugheads today. There has been some recent hazard reduction in the area, so there is no bush to bash through (still a fun track to scramble up and down though). We were a little concerned upon approach, but the cache turned out to be completely unharmed by the fire, and right where we expected it to be. TFTC - a lovely one for a nice day followed by morning tea overlooking the water.
Found it after a scramble thru thick undergrowth. Again in a wonderful forest environment once you get there. Great frog chorus. Cache in good condition. TFTC
Could not access the path as there was a red and white tape across the path, and signs that said Access was prohibited. So we stayed away.
Well, it wasn't quite wading though a river of human excrement, but it was close.
No clear path down, no clear path back up.
Vines everywhere grabbing at my ankles, bugs galore and not much solid footing.
There might be an easier way in than we found, but if not, I reckon it's a bit harder than a T3.
Regardless, MrSmith00, Knappstien and myself made it there and back again.

Tftc, I needed a cache for an unfound day and Azzepious needed one to keep his streak going. Our friend Knapstien arrived from QLD so we made him come with us. This was one of my cloesest unfound so dragged them along. Bush bashed our way down and up. That was a rough T3. GPS bounced around so it took a while but Azzepious made the find.
I wish I could say this was a quick find but the iPhone had me bouncing around. I was about to give up when I chanced upon a location that yielded the cache Thanks one one six for placing the cache it is dry and safe cheers
Today we drove our new geomobile over to South Turramurra to target the cluster of caches, both new and old, that are located in the area. This was the 10th of 11 finds, and 2 DNF's, for the day.
After finding quite a few caches west of the Comenarra Parkway, we were now heading back toward home, but decided to have a look at a couple of unfound caches on the eastern side of the road. This was the 1st of the two.
Parked the geomobile at the end of Pembroke Avenue, then went on a nice little bush bash down to the water, then along the fence, then up to GZ. Looked in various hidey holes before uncovering the hide and having CIH. TNLNSL, and then replaced as found. Found a slightly better, and quicker, way back up to the geomobile for the return journey. TFTC OneOneSix.

Ok, so maybe today wasn't the best day to attempt this cache but hey, we did it.
The way down was pretty slippery and we let out a few squeals and giggles as we slip/slid our way down.
Searched around for the hint item but found nothing, eventually reading a previous log that noted it was missing.
The iPhone struggled to get a lock on GZ so we looked were we would hide it and soon had CIH.
Enjoyed nice view of the lake then climbed/dragged our way out

I parked my car at the end of Pembroke Avenue and found a small path downhill. Actually 'path' is not correct, it is more of a gap between the plants. While my descent I was putting my new hiking boots to the test. I was happy that they provided me with the required grip on the slippery terrain. Quite a change from my previous 5 year old hiking boots.
The log of crash2079 was very helpful and it was not before long that I ended up at a rocky area. From the corner of my eye I spotted something suspicious, and then I had cache in hand Right at the spot where the GPS indicated it should be! Very accurate coordinates.
I dropped off a TB, signed log and then retraced my steps downhill and then uphill again.
Thanks for the cache OneOneSix.

This has been showing up in my 30 closest caches so thought it was about time to give it a visit. Parked at the end of Pembroke Ave and made my way along the trail heading down. Got to the fence and followed it along, occasionally fighting the lantana. Veered uphill towards a rocky area and after a quick scout, caught sight of the cache out of the corner of my eye. SL and readied myself for the uphill trek back to the car.

After the visit from the letterbox, I sought even this cache. I could find it quickly.

It was a boot of a slippery slippery going down to that cache. Then again Andy went down a slippery slope of fraud when he was in prison.

Thanks for the cache.
dropped in on the way home, following the steep trail down the hill, in which you reach a T intersection at 90 degrees to the main trail.
Walked over to admire the view of the lake from the rock, then set my sights on the container. Its very pretty with ferns, rock orchards, birds nest ferns etc at the cache location.

A fun short steep downhill from a nearby street. Once down it was a flat short bushbash until gz. Once there couldnt find any glass. Just birds calling out to each other and a cache. TFTC
Great spot - but a lot of damage to the local vegetation so her wis a hint. You do not need to move leaf litter, or branches or plants. You do not need to squash plants at all. It's a classic hide that if you use eyes rather than plan force it's not a problem ...
Found this one again cause I live so close to it. Tried to find it from memory without a GPS which was a bit of a challenge. It was a metal box last time...sad someone's nicked the obsidian too. Oh well. The old logbook that asked "what are you escaping from" was pretty cool! Should bring that back! Still a very cool cache.

#1339 (2 of 2 today)
After visiting my mother I decided I could grab a few caches in Turramurra as there was still plenty of daylight. Could have tried the two micros, but decided I wanted something substantial at the end of my bush forays.
* * * END OF CUT AND PASTE SECTION * * *
After the last find I made my way here, and like Gaztek & Jackscruff found a track at the end of Pembroke Avenue. Made my way carefully down - anyone thought to ask if a slippery slide could be installed here - it's steep enough.
The trail then took a 90 degree right hand turn and... for the second time today I lost Internet coverage on my iPhone. And then the GC App hung... and...
So I climbed back up to the top where I was able to save the cache details, meaning net access was no longer necessary.
And so, back down the slope a second time I made my way to GZ.
Ended up overshooting my target and was met with a view over a lake. Zeroed in finally for a mercifully quick find when I actually started searching.
Thanks to the trails I'd had no trouble avoiding the ferns on the way down, but strangely, they were a problem when I looked for a place to sit and complete signing duties.
The thin vines on the other hand I could happily destroy as they tried more than once to garrotte me! Even more so on the way back.
Speaking of which, I made it back up the slope without incident for the second time. Phew!

Haven't seen the movie but funnily enough there was a question about it on Million Dollar Minute tonight.
Parked at the end of Pembroke and followed a sort of track which went very steeply down and would have been impossible in wet weather. Actually it probably wasn't a track it was more likely made by the runoff from the end of the street after storms.
Anyway made my way to almost GZ via a spot where I could see the lake, avoiding things slithering away from me into the bush. It was an easy find once there.
Must have taken a different route back up because even though it looked less like a track, it was much quicker and not nearly so steep.

This one had me puzzled for a while as GPS was having me at several GZ spots but I ended up widening my search area looking for any nice hidey hole and sure enough, had cache in hand in no time. Went across an sat down on the large rock to get a good view of the water and have lunch. Thanks for bringing me here and TFTC.
Parked at the end of Pembroke Ave and found a path - a very steep path. It is navigable but with wet, slippery leaves on top of mossy rocks and mud, you had to be pretty careful not to descend on your bum. Fortunately we had some walking sticks in the car and they helped. Not far down and the track levelled out and the path to GZ was fairly clear. That lake is pretty cool and unexpected! Worked out a likely hiding area and sure enough there it was. Nice to find a new dry container but unfortunately no cash! Lovely walk here with cockatoos screeching all the way and the scent of native frangipani just about to bloom. TN L a small plastic toolkit SL TFTC Cheers... Gaztek

A steep slippery trail in really bad shoes, and a long bush bash was all worth it. The hardest part was getting to the cache. Once I hit the right area it was pretty quick and easy!
I most likely took the worst route there. The cockatoos were looking down at me like they weren't happy I was there. They really are the worst birds. They're more than happy to blast out a 600dB scream on your balcony at 7 in the morning but give you the stink eye when you're quietly geocaching around their trees. Anyway rant over.
Thanks for restoring/maintaining the cache dj quack.

With some assistance from Yarrara, I contacted the owner to see if they would mind me giving this cache some maintenance and they agreed as they are no longer in the area. We replaced the large tin container and added a new dry log book. New container is not so large as the old big one. May try to find one of a similar size in future. Also, the beautiful lump of obsidian that sat on top has sadly managed to walk off but still a great cache
The logbook has gone back to nature, and the cache will barely open. It's a faithful reenactment.
Glad I can tick that one done.
Glad I can tick that one done.
By the time I got there, the sun was setting, and I thought I'd never get out! Although everything was a mess as stated, I signed the front cover of the log anyway and put it back in plastic. The lid was off, so I put that back on too. The whole thing needs replacing - I'm sure a sturdier water proof container could be sustituted. The geological specimen was nowhere to be seen. I was amazed I didn't come out covered in leaches and ticks! quite a tangle of creeper-vines the way I came in, so be prepared. I came in from Pembroke Ave. Thanks for a fun finish to a great days caching south of the Highway 116!

This cache really needs some TLC!
The log book is very wet (so much so that I could not sign it) and needs replacing.
I also did not see any evidence of the item referenced in the clue so maybe it has gone missing.

I see what everyone means by the steep descent to get to GZ. I was almost ready to give up on this cache as my GPS coordinates were jumping around all over the place and just when I thought I'd head back up the hill I discovered it. There was no sign of the chunk of volcanic glass so the clue didn't help at all.
The log and cache are wet and in urgent need of maintenance. In fact, the log book is so wet I did not sign it. There was no sign of the TB although a few other creatures seem to be calling the cache home at the moment, including a big cockroach and a spider. I had planned on leaving a couple of TB's here but changed my mind after seeing the state of the cache. Anyway I took a photo of the cache contents, put it back in its hiding spot and headed back up the hill.

2311 GAFF1 I had been in this area just a few nights before, and had always liked the movie, so will have to get it out and check the scene.
Found a reasonable way in, and having had some locals from the MNC come and grab this recently meant there wasn't so much 'pushing' of the bush to do!
This will be another for the Night Caching thesis bookmark.
Still a bit of water in there.
Think I left a surgical marking pen there, but not sure if it is labeled as a Correct Site Marker, or if it was a generic one!
Brought through for mileage: 3 Bros, Aust Light Houses, B 2 B ingot, I Bashed at MidWest 2007, Iconic Bridges, cache critters Baa, Neigh Neddy, and Oink, and N-JOYO TB and trackable shirt.
Nice to share the caching experience with Manning Valley Mountain Biker

Found at 1:32 PM on our "Get to 9,999 cache finds before the Myriads and Milestones event on 21 April" with Browngang. This was a GAFF5 find.
Loved the movie and always wondered about the "geocaching" element near the end - and he didn't use a GPSr!
Chris did the honours on this one as it looked simple enough to get to GZ, but the bush was very thick.
Thanks OneOneSix.
Feedback: Cache is wet inside.

Found it tonight in the dark with a friend who is new to caching. The GPS on my phone was all over the place. I think by sheer luck we walked past the hint. Nice hide. took nothing and left nothing. thanks for the hide.
Made my way down from the obvious parking spot, following the tracks mentioned in previous logs. Once I got close the iPhone wanted me a few metres further on but I spotted the glass and there it was. Some interesting areas around this part of the North Shore. No swaps today. Thanks OneOneSix.

Love the movie but had not really thought, since we started geocaching a year ago, that it had parallels with caching.

Bush bashed though a steep downhill "track" and then sideways through an even lesser "track", and eventually came across the glass. Beaudy. Contents nice and dry too.
Gets a favourite from us.

Found by Nanny and Bo on a warm August Tuesday Afternoon.
After a scramble down a steep bank, it was cross country to GZ.
The GPS was about +- 7 metres down here and the bush was dense.
But a systematic search found the chunk of volcanic glass, and all was revealed.
A BIG cache and a great hide, so it gets a favorite point.

I found this a week ago with Dad but we went back today with some friends that are new to geocaching. We made them find it, though. Some of the boys grumbled about the steep bushwalk, but I think it's fun. Now that I have my own account, I wanted to sign the log myself and tick this one off. Took nothing, dropped off a Liv doll. This time on the walk back, we went back the way we came, so there was a lot less bush-bashing. We still got scratched a bit, except for the smart dads with jeans on. TFTC.
This was fascinating, I had no idea there was a hidden lake in this area. Nice chunk of obsidian and generously sized container. SL TFTC
wow pretty steep going down. Luckily there's a bit of a path. Geo boy enjoyed sliding down... at first.
Then later on when he noticed some ants, got some scratches etc he wasn't so happy.
I found the cache right when I got to GZ.

28/07/12 12:10 PM. Spotted by geodaughter after hiking our way down. Great hide for such a big container. Took dolphin, left Gargomel. SL. Lost sight of our path on the way back and ending up having to bush bash a little TFTC!
Got fairly close by following a rough track. Then when I got to GZ and wondered where the cache could be. I should have spent more time looking around me than looking at previous logs - cause I was standing about 1m away!
A track, a track, my kingdom for a track! I pushed my way down, following the paths of those who came before me, until I got close. No sign of the ants, luckily - they must have been sensible and stayed indoors on a damp day like today. Neither GPS had a good lock, and the Garmin's batteries died after about 10 minutes, so I was forced to rely on the iPhone - eek! Luckily it worked sufficiently well for me to approach GZ from the right angle. Phew! Took TB, dropped TB, answered questions, signed log, then headed back up the hill, getting back to the car just as the heavens opened.

After a considerable amount of bush bashing, ant stomping (they are bloody persistent and bite like hell) team gathy and I found the cache. Nice big box. Good hide.
After visiting the hardware emporium, this cache looked like being the nearest to fill a calendar gap.
The track down from Pembroke Ave is steep, but only short and not that difficult, even in today's wet weather. The GPS was quite certain that I should be looking around a large angophera but there was nothing there except leeches (how did they survive before geocachers arrived to feed them?).
I went up to the deckchair rock, where others had started and ventured off again. This time, the GPS gods had me several metres further NE and there was the telltale black "rock". The cache container is bit bent and twisted but the contents are in surprisingly good condition. Took the 10 Jahre KÖLNARENA TB and dropped off Dragonfly Dream. TFTC

I've only recently been told about geocaching and I'm still amazed it exists. I live in Pembroke Ave in #4 and it's crazy theres a geocache here! I used to come down to the dam and walk across the dam wall with the other kids that lived in the street, and this reminded me of it.
Took me quite a while as my phone compass doesn't seem to be too accurate. Finally found it and signed log. Feel free to visit me fellow cachers!
Thanks very much for the cache and the introduction to geocaching!

Lovely morning walk to gz. Saw the deck chair (folded). Not sure if it's a cachers track to gz or other nature appreciators. Lots of credit to troybies in getting down there with a child! It's cockatoo nesting season and this place is gz for that too it would seem!
Swapped tbs and headed out.

Found it today with the Boice and Campbell crew.
Great view of the dam, I wonder who the chair belongs to?

Good cache to find. Steep terrain makes taking an 8 month along with us all the More difficult
THe Murray Family found it! The local vegetation seems to be getting a little battered-one of the nearby ferns had been knocked off its rock. Maybe worthwhile moving this cashe to another location to give the spot some time to recover? Lovely spot though. Listen out for the call of Eastern Dwarf Green Tree Frogs coming up from the lake.
Find #1173 - 2 for today. Found on 9/10/11 10:17 AM
Worked my way down and across to the cache. Coords spot on, the cache located after a short bush bash. Located the track on the way out, much easier. Thanks. TNSLLN

This has long been a favourite novella of mine, so I chased this one before. But, I was rightly advised not to attempt it at night time. Today it was a quick slide down the track and then a track across to GZ where once the GPS settled we soon found the necessary clue (straight from the novella) and the cache.
The way out was easier than the way down and we made it back to the car just as a severe thunder and lighning storm hit and sent us home.

Another very good find on my holiday around Sydney area. A short search had the cache located. Good bush bash down to site. SL Thanks for the fun!
Been meaning to do this cache for quite some time. Parked at the end of pembroke ave and followed the steep track down to the dam. Got a bit wet pushing my way through the vegetation, but no leeches thankfully! Dropped off my backpack at the rocky outcrop and let the gps settle for a bit before following the needle to GZ proper. Co-ords are spot-on, even with the terrain, which is quite impressive! Found the item referred to in the hint (an awesome specimen of this material!), and extracted the cache from its hidey hole. Walked back up to the outcrop to sit and read through the log book. Wrote my own entry, picked up the penguin TB and dropped off some polished stones for future finders =) TFTC oneonesix! ^_^ *favourited*
