There are some really quirky places in Lightning Ridge. I really enjoyed driving around looking at them all. Even found an interesting dunny!
Heading up to Lightning Ridge for the day with the middle geokid. Awesome weather for exploring. Left Carinda around 10 am and didn't get back until 7 pm. Great day spent in a really unique area, explored mines, camps, artesian springs, and did a heap of caches along the way. Last one in Lightning Ridge before we head over to Grawin Opal Fields for a look. TFTC!
Such a fascinating place. I could see myself taking a few months to live out here and search for opals, but can't image the drive needed to go full time. We have really enjoyed looking at all the jerry rigged structures and machines in the opal fields. Thanks for the cache!
GCLOGAN TripFound with GrimRaider on our drive up to Lunatic Hill. We have watched many of the Outback Ooal Hunters shows so it is great to be here and checking out the camps. I am travelling with GrimRaider to GCLogan and then to western NSW on our first trip with the van. Thanks for hiding this cache O319
On a family roadtrip from Brisbane and decided to hunt some geocaches.Nice easy find. Tftc
Day 5 of our day trip from Maryborough Vic to Maryborough QLD/Hervey Bay. We got to Lightning Ridge just in time to set up the van before dark last night so today has been dedicated to exploring this quirky town before we continue to Toowoomba tomorrow. We enjoyed a great tour of The Chambers of the Black hand, a delicious pizza at the take away place and yummy ice cream across the road. We managed to check out all of the main attractions, nab lots of caches and then had a huge, tasty meal at the bowling club. Unfortunately this cache was the least fun part of my day. I spent 2 minutes finding the cache and 20 minutes painstakingly tweezing Hudson pear out of my leg and shoes.
#7721Day 3 of road trip to Camerons Corner, travelling from Moree to Lightning Ridge. Grabbed this one after very informative underground opal tour. Then setup camp and watched the sunset. TFTC O319
Some weird and run down camps up here. Not really my cup of tea. but thanks for bringing me for a look.
The cache and log are good. I went through my trinkets looking for what was apt to leave here, and found the perfect thing, an opal earring. "An", as its mate is missing. The colours glinted in the sun. If you only have one ear this is perfect.A VERY spiny plant here. I had to pull the spines from the soles of my shoes. See photograph. I trod on a dead version of that near to GZ.TFTC O319.

Out caching with my caching buddy, MrsShep77, and our faithful drivers. Thanks for the great hides.
An early morning start after our overnight stay. I am traveling with my friends, hatzofff, RoddyC, Snickersallan and grannysmith1947. We are signing all logs as "5 for QLD" to save space. All caches were found, signed and replaced as foundAfter some early caches and an event we headed off to some special geoart and an overnight stay before heading back to Adelaide for the start of the Mega. Today has been one of the hottest and windiest we have had so far. [:(!] Here's hoping Adelaide will be a bit cooler tomorrow.
We are one our way to Adelaide for the leap Year Mega. After an early start from our overnight accommodation, we set off to find the caches on our target list. All caches were found and signed as "5 for QLD" for our traveling group of hatzofff (myself), RoddyC, Imbunda, Snickersallan and grannysmith1947.

A Leap Year Mega draws us to Adelaide. Today's our intrepid group has our first full day of caching. We are using the Acronym 5 for QLD to sign the log sheets. Most of the caches this day were nice quick finds. And so happily I say that the logs were signed and caches replaced as found on this day, 21st February 2024. TFTC, O319.
Found this with geo-pup while waiting for family to finish a tour near by. A unique landscape and quirky place.
Slowly meandering home after attending the Longreach QOGM. Grabbing anything along the way. Most hides where found after a short search. Loved the different containers and hides. Thanks for placing the cache and doing the maintenance needed, so we can find this cache.
QOGM 2023 Longreach Day 31. Traveling St George to Lightning Ridge via Thallon and Hebel. Fitzy_1965 and Albida33 are on our trip in early spring to Longreach. The journey home is well under way. There were only a couple of local caches to visit before the days drive began. We were pleased to spend time in Thallon along the way getting another Large QLD object and then head to Hebel for lunch. We ended the day In Lightning Ridge where we went for a short tour to do the LABs and visit a few caches that this time were for only me. We sat out a late afternoon storm on the pub and went to the Bowls club for dinner. The place is amazing and it would have been nice to spend a bit longer here. This area and the area covered by the LABs were an eye opener for how people manage to live and dig up here. It sure is a very interesting environment. Thanks for the cache O31944603.12 TNLNVisited: World Traveling Gold GC A#6 & Braille A#117**Albida**

Interesting Accomodation in this area. Dropped off a TB that we have taken to lots of places but time to set it free for someone else to find it. Farewell Bump.

We are on a journey to Rutherglen Mega at Easter.
Today we arrived in Lightning Ridge. We always stop for coffee first and enjoyed ours at the Busy Bee. Then we decided to take the camper off the car but not open as it was too hot. Caching and car door tours in the cool of the car was the go. We were on the yellow car door tour when we went past this one. A quick find here.
Soo many tracks here. I wouldn't want to get lost at night!
