We are camped at Bjelke Peterson Dam near Murgon for a week. Today we did a loop via Nanango, Kingaroy , Murgon and back to base camp.Found all caches to be in great condition.Beautiful day to be out for a drive and cacheTFTC.
Thanks YOF for another cache hidden in this area. All good with this one. I actually was looking at the root balls and there it was hiding in plain view. Proof again when you are looking for something different you can miss the obvious.
This cache highlighted the Bora Grounds - Indigenous cultural / heritage site near this cache. We were extremely disappointed at the state of the site, and as such I contacted the South Burnett Regional Council based on my view that if it was such an important site, why hasn’t it been maintained. I was very thankful to receive a reply today which I though was worth sharing in the hope that the area will be reinstated to included the appropriate information and history regarding the Bora Grounds.
The reply:
Thank you for contacting us today regarding the Bora Grounds at Coolabunia. This area was formally handed back to the Wakka Wakka tribe several years ago and unfortunately your photos clearly demonstrate that the area is not being maintained at all.
We have discussed this with one of our lovely indigenous Council staff members (Cain) who will approach his elders to advise that we would like to offer whatever assistance we can to help restore the area and perhaps organise maintenance to be performed on a regular basis. Cain has been working on a few indigenous areas of late in Murgon which look fantastic, so we would be able to dedicate him to resurrecting the area and perhaps add to it to enhance the site with some interesting features.
We will definitely pursue this and will keep you in the loop down the track with any advancements. Please also keep in mind that they may also refuse any work or assistance which is at their discretion.
Again, thank you for bringing this to our attention and fingers crossed we will get the opportunity to bring this treasure back to life, our indigenous history is so precious!

Bora grounds were the stage for one of the most important ceremonies of Aboriginal culture. There is a sign at the grounds that is unfortunately too faded to properly read. It’s an interesting piece of history and I hope the site receives some love for more people to find and to learn about.
A little bit of a google search explained the ceremonies in a bit more detail:
“Bora, also called “Burbung , is the initiation ceremony for young boys being welcomed to adulthood. This may last some weeks and involves learning sacred songs, dances, stories, and traditional lore. Circumcision, scarification, and removal of a tooth as mentioned earlier, or a part of a finger are often involved”
I’m sure some components of the ceremony are still upheld, just not the bit where you’d sacrifice a finger
Thanks to CO’s for taking time to set out and maintain hides and for showing us your very special part of the world

Easy find. Pity the Bora Grounds have been left in such disrepair. Found whilst on a very non direct route to QOGM - Charleville 2022. On the hunting trail again with SeasonedBird (aka Mrs Geo, Salty Chook, the Old Boiler, Old Chook, Dirty Bird, Angry Bird & occasionally even Love Bird). It’s a great day for caching.

Stopping in Nanango for a couple of days, no need to rush to QOGM 22. Got into the caravan park early and set off for some caches. Some caches were damp, but understandably after the amount of rain the area has had. Great containers John and easily with standing the natural elements. Only one DNF on todays adventure.

This is a very special place to visit. As i rode to Nanango i saw the Bora Ring sign and had to stop to check how far it was. Cycling i have the freedom to explore little detours like this. Once i arrived and walked around i realised there was a cache as well. Adventure bonus!

Completing a multitude of backlogs from a Bromance trip in August 21. Apologies for the late log. This was a bromance run in between COVID lockdowns, and somehow I didn't get to logging these finds. I was with Seffnjarah and a full team of JeznDez in the new jalopy they had recently purchased. Thanks ot the CO's for the great caches we picked up. Caching roadtrips with friends are the BEST!
This cache wasn't actually on my weekend list of caches to try but seeing as it was a bora bora site we decided to check it out. Sadly it looks more like a big quarry now which trail bikes / motor bikes had ridden through. Was very hot out here this afternoon. Summer has made its way here. no. 35 of day 1. TFTC.
Road trips for The Bromance have been few and far between since Covid-19 raised its ugly head so, with the recent travel restrictions now eased, Seffnjarah, Swellerfungus and a full complement of JezNDez headed off to subject JezNDez's new acquisition Max to the rigours of its first The Bromance geocaching weekend.
Our trip covered the Nanango, Goomeri and Kilkivan areas, and although we had visited this area back in May, we still had plenty of caches left to find up this way, including this one.
We probably could have driven much closer to the cache but instead took a longer walk to inspect the Bora ring. Sadly the sign was too faded to read about the location. Continuing on towards GZ, the cache was found after a short search. Logbook stamped with The Bromance team stamp. TFTC

Its ashame the council no longer mainta6 these places bora rings ..wetlands ect. The bonus is the Dump is no more. Just a gravel pit.
On our way to Kingaroy for a weekend road trip & made this little detour when we saw a sign for the bora ring. Not a huge tourist attraction obviously, as the place was very overgrown and we could just make our the posts placed in a circle amongst the tall grass.
The information signs were well passed their readability time, so were not at all informative.
Despite a very specific description of the cache hide, we still took a while to find it as there were a few similar looking loggish things around.
Good sturdy container. Took happy sack, left blue car.
Our visit broke 237 days of loneliness for this cache. Good to be able to use for an unloved cache challenge though.

After being idle and tied up with household chores over the last few weeks, It didn't take to much prodding to decide a mini road trip was in order.
After consulting the trusty map decided that a little adventure North through Yarraman, Narango and Kingaroy. And because youngoldfella places his caches along some great country roads the marjority of attempts would be on his caches, With a few others thrown in for good measure Nice cache thanks for bringing me here and for the adventure.
Thanks for the great cache and adventure youngoldfella

Love it when you get two for the price of one! Grabbed this one and the GCA virtual while here too. To get to GZ we walked around the bora and although it took a while to get the coordinates the cache was soon spotted in a logical hiding place.
This place is quite interesting and has a sign at the turn off on the highway but then you are sort of abandoned. You would think there would be another sign once you get there.
Thanks.

TFTC! Container and log book bag are no longer water proof, quite a bit of water damage and book is soaked. Did what we could, sorry.
If the lid is put back on correctly the container should not have had water in it. I have replaced the lot. New container and contents. You are now looking for a short length of cammo 90mm storm water piupe. The lid does have a seal. Please screw lid back on so that it is a firm fit to the body, thanks. All good to go. If you park in the right spot on the side of the road yu will see a nice track in for the 30 metre walk, approximately. Please do not enter the council gravel pit area.
I'm still in the area and still enjoying the geocaching in this area. The views are indeed glorious, everywhere I've driven. Was delighted to be finding another youngoldfella geocache and gratefully signed the log. Cheers!
Interesting spot. When we arrived there was a white Ute parked in the main track - seemingly abandoned - with the windows open, but nobody around. Given that we were at an abandoned gravel pit which was fairly scary in itself (deep water holes, steep granite pathways) and recent news items of murders in the bush, all sorts of wild thoughts started coming through our heads. Bah! Nonsense, I reasoned to myself.
So we readied ourselves for a little walking trek as there was not way we could get our GeoFalcon any closer to GZ. Just as w were about to leave, two more vehicles pull up and the occupants are all over the Ute. All good, now - they must have been off doing something nearby together. If any dead bodies are involved, we have these notes as evidence of our witnessing the events! Let's give them a wide berth and start going this way.
So after scrambling down a track, up and over and nearly into a water pond then up a very slippery granite "wall" we were getting closer and closer to GZ. Meanwhile the party back at the vehicles was just carrying on their laughter and chatter and taking no notice of us.
Eventually we arrived at our GZ, and soon had the cache in hand. It was exposed from its identified hiding spot, so after ensuring all is OK after the signing, we replaced it as described rather than as we found it.
Turning around, the "visitors" and their vehicles have all gone, so a safe retreat via direct path to our GeoFalcon was mounted. Nice, memorable adventure, but....
"Hey youngfella,"
"I got Your green trees and bushes and long-steep track,
Some humpty backed walkways, and some steps outa wack.
Some slips and slides and near misses, but John, now here's the thing,
I just can't see no Bora Ring!"
(Apologies to the Irish Rovers - and their Unicorns)

We are heading to Nanango's first event and even though it is not till Saturday we thought we would stop along the way and the get the caches that often get missed followed by the comment we will do that one, one day. We are staying at the showgrounds in Kingaroy and will head further south tomorrow. This was one of the caches we targetted and found. Nice hide. Thanks to youngoldfella for its placement and adding to our enjoyment of this location.
Hi there youngoldfella. We found your cache "Bora View" at 3:09:00 PM today. This cache makes our find count 11313.
[Blue]
We thoroughly enjoyed our trip around the area today. We usually start the day off by nominating a cache some distance away from our caravan park and then take a route mainly determined by the next closest cache according to our GPS. Today we started with a close cache and worked our way towards Kingaroy before stocking up with essential supplies.
[/Blue]
Coordinate Accuracy: We found the cache around 2m from where the GPS said we should be looking.
Cache Condition: The ground all around GZ has been charred by a bushfire. The container and log book haven't beentouched, and are in good shape.
Took: Nothing.
Left: Smiley Badge.
Thanks for the hunt today,
Regards
Ian & Penny.

This was the next one as it was down the road from the last one, we decided to come and have a look.
I had seen a fine example of these in Brisbane and was keen to see another.
Arrived at GZ and saw young fellows on motor bikes and a dune buggy boring around at break neck speed up and down the sandy area.
We headed off to GZ. The area has just been recently burned but not the area of the cache which was in good condition.

Having another annual caching trip to Nanango and Kingaroy with Richmond Lad. Last year we thought we had found most of them but some wonderful COs keep putting out more to entice us back to this lovely region of Queensland. We have driven along quiet , gum tree lined country roads, spotted some peaceful waterways and are becoming experts at stumps!!! Thank you to all the COs who have caches in this area - you are all doing a wonderful job creating, placing and maintaining your hides.
Parked on reagons road and walked through the bush.

We parked in Reagon Rd, took a look at the Bora Ring, then skirted the ring and took a path running between the ring and the gravel pit to GZ. We each took one of the options to check and it turned out to be against The Marble's though it was actually DisSister who found it! It's a bit damp inside but the logbook was still signable. If it hadn't been for the fence posts around this site I would never have realised there was a Bora ring there. Found our way around and DisSister found the cache where I'd already looked. Thanks youngoldfella.

Captain Terror and I had just spent a wonderful weekend at Bell and we were slowly driving back to Brisbane via a few towns I hadn't been to in many many years. The Captain had already found this cache and knew where we should park and approach from. Before too long we were heading through the long grass towards GZ.
I was hunting around with my device on 1-2m. I couldn't see anything and the Captain decided to go for a walk and look somewhere more likely. As I followed behind him I watched my device jump around. He told me that he had found the container and I looked at my device in anger and it said 0m. It must have been having a bit of a meltdown from the heat. I signed my name in the logbook and replaced the cache as found. Thanks for the cache youngoldfella.

Absolutely worth the few kilometres to reach this spot. I miss the bush, as I currently live near the beach. Unfortunately I didn't find the bora ring, but I did find the cache It had me stumped at first... *groan*, but there it was. Took some fish, left a cat. TFTC yof
Yay - a long weekend. Time to dust off the camper and go for a drive. Thoroughly enjoying our cache tour of the area. Had never been here before and what better way to see the place but via caches? Thank you for placing this one!
I know it is frowned upon for a CO to log a find on their hides. Need something to power me on and needed to check this one with machinery. Apologies.
As noted in the description a short walk through the scrub and the cache was located by our new geo cacher friend
Certainly worth the few extra kilometres off our designated trip to find this cache. What an interesting area! Another quick easy find for Captain Terror and myself.

Nyssaflutterby and I were headed towards Kingaroy from Nanango and seeing the higher D/T combo on this cache, I declared it to be worth the detour. Dirt roads are no match for Spangle as we shot down the side road, kicking up a cloud and counting windmills. We wound up parked sort of as close as we figured we could get and set about working out which way to go. I was surprised how hidden the Bora-ring was although I did have a read of what was left of the weathered, bullet-holed signs as we went towards the cache. On the way from car to the cache we 'round the outside, 'round the outside, 'round the outside, like two trailer park girls.
A quick bash through some cactus and around a few trees had us at the right spot. What a great view from here too. I reckon you could spend a while exploring down below and I noted a burnt out car in the distance. Onto the cache and it was a pretty quick find for us today. All in good condition after we'd signed and replaced. TFTC youngoldfella, an interesting and well hidden area to visit

This Bora is pretty much in tact and if you look closely you can see the gap in the circle where the path led out of the ring
To find the cache I circled around the outside,
round the outside,
round the outside
And soon found the cache
A trample through he scrub via the Bora Ring , a fall flat on the face for the geo-wife , we took the TB even though it hadn't been in the cache much more than an hour ; SL; dusted off the shrubbery and retreated; TFTC anyway
Went out and checked on this one. you can nearly drive right up to it now if you come in via the sand quarry. Still safe and sound in its hide at the root ball end. Looks like some one has been gathering fire wood.
All good for this one.
All good for this one.
2585 Found by baby&Mrs gopher at 1030 on our trip north to Cooktown. Pulled up and went for a walk and left the Mrs to park the truck. All in good condition. Left TB SL Tnx youngoldfella
We were staying overnight on our way to Woodgate so thought we would do a few caches in Kingaroy. Found this cache that was in good condition and well hidden. We took a path tag. The log has been cut and most of it taken and part of the end has been burnt so now there is just the stump and the root ball. The Malar Road has some very large pot holes in it but they are working on the road!! TFTC youngoldfella and bringing to this interesting area.
