Visited this cache today as I hid a new one, unfortunatlly the whole area has been logged, the tree that the cache was under has been cut down and is now just a minefield of sharp branches and is no longer suitable for a cache.
I have rescued the cache from under the minefield but the container has been crushed and the contents are soaked so I have brought back into town to dry out and clean, will return to a new spot next time I am out that way but this hiding place is no more.

Walked along from Lake Waikere. Main lake was busy near camp site but soon got away from everyone along here. Lovely spot. TFTC.

12-Jan-10
went for a kayak over to this cache from promenade point, poked around a bit and found the cache site. A bit damp, but well worth the paddle.

Took the little mermaid geocoin, will possibly put it in a cache near auckland airport for it to make its way to another country.

Thanks for teh cache, lots of tradeable items in it.

02-Dec-09
Great lake. Cycling around it means you have to cycle through water at present, but it's clear and warm - therefore much fun! Dropped of geocoin.

What a nice spot to hide a cache ,came here on a camping weekend walked around the lake and had a refreshing swim .Travel bug out .

19-Feb-09
Used the additional information but still did not find it. There were more than two pines and the needles extended for many metres from each. The co-ords seemed to be way out. the closest tree was 15 metres from GZ. Dissapointing to come up empty handed after such a long walk.

Here with the Whangarei Young Mariners & HoraHora Scouts for a weekend kayaking camp. A quick kayak from Pine Beach camp (1.6km each way) and we found the cache easily. These lakes are a great place to visit.

17-Jan-08
First ever Geocache - Found it after a little local difficulty (within 115m but at wrong altitude!)

08-Jan-08
We read the previous logs carefully before setting off for this one and thoght we knew what we were in for! Once there, we couldn't quite figure out if stealing canoes, jetskis or boats was allowed...!

Also attempted to bypass the gate, but were caught by locals doing doughnuts in their 4WD. Wet, covered in mud, with the sun setting, we headed back to civilsation.

A brilliant, clever cache. We were sorry not to achieve on this one.

06-Jan-08
Was at the lakes with family and decided to go on a random 5km return walk to revisit and check on the cache, The original owner no longer appears to be caching so I have sorta taken on looking after the 2 Kai Iwi caches as I visit this place a lot. Cache was found safe and sound in its normal spot, but on my next visit I must bring a new log book it is getting full.

01-Dec-07
I don't know if the GPS was telling porkeys or not but we either had a long walk or needed a boat for this one. unfortunatly we didn't have a boat or have time for a long walk so had to leave without this one. Might try for this one if we are up this way again sometime.

19-Nov-07
Sorry, thought I'd posted this earlier but must have missed it off - we had a lot to post after an 8 day touring holiday. We had a fantastic walk to this cache and a lovely swim on the way back. A beautiful spot and well worth the walk.

Be warned, the cache looks close by from a certain part of the lake, but don't forget the directions/distances may be 'as the crow flies'

Found it with SRyanNZ

06-May-07
Found the Cache #1 this arvo, and did not have time to venture around the lake on foot to find this #2 one. It used to be a track for 4WDs so we were ready to zoom around the waters edge,Wink but now is only for walkers. However, on our return soon, we will be launching our boat at the Ramp on the oppo side of the lake and fizzzzzzzzzzzz across to the cache. Tis in such beautiful surroundings. [^]

TechnoKitten and I just pitched the tent at the small camping ground and decided to walk around to this one before putting our feet up for the afternoon...
Can't be far as it showed only 600m in a straight line but of course we had to walk around!! which felt like 2km!!
It is nice to see this lake looking so clean and clear and being used by boaties and swimmers.
We got close but GPSr was pointing well away from likely GZ so we had to rely on clues.
Whew... all those needles!! could be anywhere but TK prodded into the right place and we soon had it in hand.
TK signed the log in her creative style... and we headed back to the camp... Feet up and a nice rest with a book.

On another wonderful caching camping adventure with XenaCommander. Set up camp .. it is amazing what we could pack into Xenas tiny UniGo trailer ...Nylon Mansion, Queen bed, armchairs and coffee table and not forgetting the kitchen with coffee plunger and wine accoutrements... Wink
We set off for a wander around the lake, stopping on the way to chat to the rich folk with their flash skiboats. Arrived at GZ ... erk ... LOTS of pine needles, never mind, the cache was soon in hand after a bit of prodding.
Out rotting batteries and Screwdriver, In Duct tape and cat
Thanks for the excuse to walk around this beautiful pristine lake.... now back to camp to read nibble pistachios and snooze till its time to rip the lid off the baked bean tin for dinner.
PS .. the possums were up to no good during the night.. all kinds of furry mischief was afoot around our little tent until TK went out to give them a rev up ... I guess its their place when the camping season is over Smile

11-Feb-07
After missing this one when walking around the lake we came back in our kayaks the next day and found it!

28-May-06
1.05pm. Quite a muddy walk today after rain and particularly where the logging road encroached on the track. A second cache to introduce Bernard and Danielle from New Caledonia to geocaching. Found without too much difficulty.
+ Screwdriver; staple remover.
Took nothing.
Cool M&P

28-May-06
Second cache, also interesting, but track very muddy after the rain and not easy to walk with city shoes. Notous. Smile

15-Apr-06
Got onto the track just before dawn after spending the night at the nearby camp ground. Warm still Autumn morning so it was a most enjoyable walk. It would also be fun to do this one by mountain bike. A bit worried when we got to GZ and saw the clue but got onto it fairly quickly. Our indicated cache position is stated above. TNLN. Many thanks

18-Mar-06
We spent a very pleasant weekend at the lake and on Saturday afternoon took most of the extendsed family to find it.
We found GZ OK and all 6 hunted around with initially no result but I then went back to check and got it on the rerun.
Took nil and left a fridge magnet.
Luckily we had just returned it when we got jumped by muggles.

Cache returned all repaired and new logbook

26-Feb-06
Found cache but it is in extreemly bad condition. Very wet (there was more water in the container than air!!!!)
Log page is just about completely ruined, all of the paper based items in the cache are ruined. I have removed the cache and brought it home, I will dry everything out, attempt to dry and repair the log page and make a copy of it put in a new log book and return the cache in a week or 2. I left the bag it was in hidden as a marker incase someone goes looking before I can return the cache.

18-Jan-06
Great cache for a gentle evening stroll from camp.

UNFORTUNATELY: full of water. Couldn't write on log sheet as so wet was about to fall apart.

TNLN... didn't sign log

Thanks for a lovely spot Smile

14-Feb-05
Same as #1. Could not find the track and nobody knew about a track (to the cache site).
Thanks anyway.

Found cache after a lovely walk with Dysentry (didn't need help from him though).
Didn't take long finding as was rather lucky in finding.
A bit cloudy and drizzly, but was all good.
Cache logs fill so wrote on stash note side.
Cheers

Drove around the wrong side of the lake until we realised a cold swim would be reqd. After driving as far as possible the other way, I was really regretting not bringing the mountain bikes. Quick find by me this time. Just lucky.
Out - Whistle
In -- Net Guide CD.
Cheers

[visited cache with surgez.

nice walk until we got to cache area. found there was poor gps signal and we had to use the hint. even then it looked like it was going to be a long task because of ] the huge amount of pine needles on the ground.[

recommend taking togs and towel for a swim Smile beautiful clean area.

left: keyring whistle
took: batteries

2nd one today, went with Birds nest crew and bet them again!!!!One day they will get it together. Great kid friendly cache.

25-May-03
What a lovely day - pleasant walk along the lake side, sunshine and no sand flies. Found the cache eventually, I was going too deep down in the pine needles at first. A bed of pine needles make wonderful cache territory, lots of tunnels and holes. Took magnifier, left Star Wars 50 piece jigsaw puzzle (Zam Wesell). A companion puzzle has been left at Kai Iwi 1.

25-May-03
Of course, GoGranny didn't mention heading off towards Siberia due to having the wrong datum in the GPS did she Wink

Meanwhile...
Found swiftly with SilverHorse using a humble T-Rex and no hint.

TN LN SL

Silverhorse swopped china elf and 4x AA's for keyring and alien thing (unfortunately the damp has apparently rotted ET's brain).

Great spot, I can see why everyone raves about it.

Thanks
