I started my day at Waingongoro hut. It is a nice walk. Thank you for the cache, it was easy find. The cache is wet but it is possible to write in the logbook.
I have the week off work so have come up to Taranaki for a couple of days or so for caching, tackling the Forgotten Highway and hopefully finally knocking off the E174 challenge that I signed some years ago.Quite a detour to get this one, especially with a closed road. But it was worth it to get an odd cache, even more so with a month I haven't had before. All good here and TFTC.Find #6532 at 19 March 2024 1:26 pm
Went 5 mins up the road to mark this spot with a smiley after collecting heihei from her mountain walk. Quick find. Cool logbook but its damp as theres water in the container. TFTC doublec
GPS struggling with the overcast day. Found the right tree eventually! A bit damp in cache. Some TLC might be required. Thanks for placing
Cant believe its taken me almost 8yrs to come find the oldest Geocache in Taranaki currently active! And only a 30min drive away too. Terrible of me! Anyway today was the day! Donned our hiking boots for our first hike of the season and ventured up here on this beautiful Labour Day. Lots of upgrades along the track..both up and down so it made for a pleasant walk. The moss on the trees was great to look at on the walk so it was a big topic of conversation..almost as big as all the Taylor Swift talkwhich almost did my head in . Took us a little while to figure out which side of the track the cache was on so after eliminating all the trees on one side Mr Muggle found it on the other side in the first place he looked so was grateful for that. Thanks for placing and maintaining this oldie Chris and Sarah & long may it live! Day #135 of our streak and this one ticks off a hidden month off the jasmer, also leaving it a FP
Finally some decent weather and the tracks are drying up enough for a hike up to this cache. Some pretty interesting trees and moss along here. Thanks for showing this place to us. Off home now for some lunch and off to my end of year squash break up. At least Im warmed up for that now! TFTC
I have had this cache on my radar for a while to help complete a challenge and as we were in the Taranaki for the weekend we decided on a quick drive up here. Unfortunately there was absolutely no view from the top of the road but we were out of the cloud here. I love this type of forest. A quick find as per hint - tftc
#3,934: Wet Find!Ha! I came to this one with my sister and brother-in-law who are visiting from the US. I flew up from Chch to meet them, and have a spin around the Naki. We came here right after we arrived, regardless of the weather. We all got very wet, but enjoyed the loop track.SL/TFTC!!
Very old caches love *Filser1* and me. We chose this one during our stay in New Plymouth. Yesterday, unfortunately, the road was closed, so we started a second attempt today.
After a short walk through a great forest we found the cache as described in the hint. The large cache box was half filled with water. Surprisingly, the logbook in its dense bag could still be labelled. We laid everything dry and hid the container for the next geocachers.

On our way to north TEMBO! and I visited "Patea Track - Taranaki" and had a wonderful view to Taranaki. The track is worth a visit to enjoy the nature.

spent 6 great weeks in New Zealand with my The start was a bit bumpy (Cyclone Gabrielle) but then it got better and better. We travelled to both islands and discovered a lot. We photographed and filmed many beautiful things, but most of it stayed in our hearts.
Almost everywhere we stopped, a cache was already waiting for us. Most of the caches are well maintained and easy to find.
With mostly very nice weather, we saw a lot of this impressive island. In many places, caches were waiting for us, which were sometimes easy and sometimes difficult to find. This cache was also included and was successfully signed
We puzzled a lot in advance and the tours were well prepared
So this box was also well found.
now I have another on my personal cache card.
many thanks to [^] **Chris and Sarah** [^] for the effort and the cache and greetings from Germany

Zusammen mit meiner Tochter diesen schnen Oldie aufgesucht. Toller Trail!!! Vielen Dank und herzliche Gre vom Rumtreiber aus Braunschweig, Deutschland.
Nice gentle walk to retrieve this cache. My phone had me on the wrong side of the track but I eventually worked it out and found the cache quickly enough.
Great amazing walk and cache. My first time on the North Island and I was looking forward to meeting Mount Taranaki! Sadly be hid behind clouds and I did not even get a glimpse on the way to greet him. I hope he'll show himself tomorrow. I definitely enjoyed the walk on his rainforest flank.

Came here as I needed this one for my Jasmer calendar. Bit of a damp day but a nice little walk to GZ. Found the cache with water inside. The logbook was damp but writable but we did miss a few blank pages as they were stuck together. Emptied the water and dried out the bag and logbook covers as best we could. Thanks for maintaining this oldie.
Malinkaly and I planned a road trip to go to the MEGA but Covid has postponed the event again. We decided to continue on with our planned journey making adjustments as we go with the ever-changing travel restrictions.
Greetings from Dunedin!
Thanks for the cache, doublec

We were supposed to be going up Pouakai but the instigator of that idea couldn't make it so we decided to do a family walk on the Patea Loop track to get this cache instead.
It's a cool cloudy day. A lot of fern overgrowth in places. The trees look amazing. Saw a couple of Kereru (native pigeons).
Cache container wet inside, log damp but writable. Saw the trackable but left it fir someone else

GPS had me the other side. Read hint and trying to remember had I crossed just 1 or 2 bridges? Pengi released a surrogate to go travelling.
On a tour around the North Island picking up the TMGT caches with NZ Bozzy , also we found many older caches and filled some gaps in our DT grids.
Celebrating turning 60 today so after a awesome breakfast we heading out to find the local TMTG caches and see some more of the North Island. Perfect !!
TFTC and an opportunity to visit places I would not stop at otherwise.
this was one of the oldies we were wanting to find. I was hoping for some clear skies so we could see the Mount but it wasn't to be today. Still enjoyed the trip
Thanks for maintaining the older caches - love to find them

Found nice old cache. Raining most of the day so no view. Travelling around the north island for a couple of weeks caching with Kiscardi.
A most a lovely walk in the bush. I much prefer it to the beach. Very very quiet - no bird noise at all.. Enjoying the views of the mountain - lots of photos taken.
Jude_E, NosyNel and I are continuing on our figure of 8 tour of the North Island collecting the ‘Tour’ caches, plus others, plus seeing the scenery, plus having a good old time. TFTC.

Ethness, Nosynel and I are on a caching adventure. Our goal is to find all the TMGT caches in a big figure 8 across the centre of the North Island. We are travelling around the mountain today. Glorious views. Container had water but log dry. Yay for plastic bags! They have their good points. Thanks for the hide.

Thanks for maitaining this old cache in this beautiful area. I am on a North Island Figure of Eight tour. For the first 4 days I spend time in the Bay of Plenty with my husband JDScout in Rotorua. Now I am on part two of the eight loop near the end of our looo, staying in New Plymouth. This part is being done with my good friends Ethness and Jude_E.
Thanks Chris and Sarah for creating this hide. It was find 9064 for me.

'Twas a gloomy day to be up the mountain but I was especially keen to get this cache. I hadn't yet found a cache that had been placed in the month of December 2001 so I was keen to make progress with the Jasmer challenge. GPS reception wasn't great but I wasn't too bothered as I had allowed plenty of time. It didn't really take me too long to track down the cache which is in great condition. I do need to return in warmer conditions to check out more of the tracks.
My GPS had me a bit off, but looking around a tree before & after the tree pinged by my GPS had me find it.
I wanted to find this one yesterday as it fills in a gap in my months hidden grid after my summit however I was so exhausted all I wanted to do was get some food and rest. So this morning I drove up to get it, another beautiful day to be on the mountain. Picked up two TBs. Thanks Chris and Sarah

20:15 we did not read the hint properly so it took us about 20 minutes to find the cache (wrong side of the path), however eventually we were successful; beautiful and mysterious place; weather - getting dark, 16 C; thank you for the cachce and regards from the Czech Republic
Thank you for bringing us to this beautiful location Chris and Sarah! Mt Taranaki and surrounds like New Plymouth are most definitely underrated locations on the NZ must do list!!! Loved Mt Taranaki and its beautiful stories x
Decided needed a mini holiday and made plans from coming back from UK mid year. I had picked an area of the country I have not visited before - New Plymouth. Once the Geotour had been published I had to change plans a bit to make sure I grab these along with caches I had marked as must get on the trip.
I needed this one for my Jasmer grid and also had heard about the Goblin forest, so combined the two and came here. First track block was a fairly large tree which looked to have fallen across the track only in the last day or 2 behind the huts.... after some off track retouting I got around this (as I'm not a pole vaulter). Only came across one other person as I went around. Very happy to walk the track, even though could have parked on the road and made a much quicker dash for it. As others say the co-ords are spot on. Found 2 logs in the box, so signed both to be safe - I did wonder if one was the past roundabout but based on the logs doesn't seem so.

For our NZ visit we created a "wishful-thinking-to-do-list" ... knowing we can not do them all but we can at least try. Old caches, earth, virtual and webcam are on the top of our list... but also some traditionals, multi etc...
Wow, a cache this old and that well maintained! Chapeau!!!!
Nice little walk and thank you for keeping the geocaching history intact for so long!

Actually my planned hike was already done, then I noticed however this cache which took me 2 hours extra . The track was really worth it. I found the cache in excellent condition. Thanks for the cache

I refreshed the cache today, replacing the container and adding a new log book. The new container should be waterproof. The book is also in a plastic bag and I included some pens and pencils in a separate bag. The existing log book is with me, drying it - it's quite soaked. I'll see what can be recovered from it when it is dry.
TFTC

In our 25th day in New Zealand we stayed in New Plymouth. The weather was still good in the morning and so we went straight to the Taranaki region. There were again two old caches still missing for our Jasmer statistic and also otherwise there are some great caches here. And of course Taranaki is such a special and fascinating mountain. This was one of the caches we really wanted to get. GPS was sending us around but when reading the listing all became clear. We found the box and first had to ged rid of all that water. The box was half full. As consequence everything is quite wet. We still managed to write onto the wet paper. It would be good if the cache can be checked.

After climbing to the summit yesterday, its time to collect a couple more caches before leaving Taranaki
Finding a place to park, I was soon walking along this amazing path. Trees dripping with life, and colour: wow The track a little overgrown in places, and a little wet, but no trouble getting to GZ.
The GPS bounced around a little, but I kept coming back to the same place, but seemed to miss the cache each time. It was only when I approached a different way, and further, there the cache was!
So happy to find this one. I have removed all the swag as it was wet/rusty/broken. The log book has been put in a new bag, but is too wet for signing. I have left a small container that contains a piece of waterproof paper (see picture), hopefully the next finders will have no problems signing.
Thanks Chris and Sarah for hiding this cache, this is what I love about caching - being bought to these amazing/beautiful places.

Great easy little walk, although a couple of times the path was overgrown so it was hard to be sure we were on the right track. With 3 kids, it took around 1:20 to walk the loop, and it’s such a beautiful walk, although be prepared for wet legs as the foliage is close to the track. Cache found easily, but as other have mentioned, impossible to sign as full of water, do have taken a photo as evidence. Lovely walk, TFTC
Found in 5/3/18 ...Absolutely wet sight in the container and the log book is all slimey. Tried to write in it but impossible to.
This cache needs URGENT attention.

Absolutely soggy and slimey. Water in the container and everything is drenched. Needs Urgent attention.
While tramping around Egmont area, this cache was not easy find
GPS jumping all over the place, finally found it great hid, but
could not sign log as it was soaking wet needs replacing as
mentioned by previous finder.

Thanks for the update on the cache condition. I plan to replace the cache container with something more waterproof and fix things up within a couple of weeks. Sorry about the lack of maintenance.
A lovely track but the cache is completely soaked, the logbook slimy... refer to LtCaine's photolog
ReCached and I spent a few hours in Egmont National Park, but it was cloudy and Mount Taranaki wouldn't show. So we stopped here to look for the cache and thanks to the combination of geosenses and the hint it was an easy find. But that was a doubtful joy. As reported by previous cachers, the container with its contents is soaked in water and the log has a somewhat slimy touch. We tried to sign the log, but it was just too wet and unfortunately we can't come up with more than a photolog. TFTC Chris and Sarah!

Once upon a time there was finally a sale between CHC and NPL, and I managed to grab a seat! The anticipation of the holiday was killing me, as this was to be the first time I set foot in Taranaki, the last unchartered territory in NZ for me. Since the wait for the dates was unusually long, I even got a chance to do some planning and pick a few nice caches to look for. I was hoping to go for a few walks also.
Great instructions came handy under the canopy, but as it has been noted, the cache is wet. I poured out about 1l of water from the container, and the logbook is beyond use. Pity I did not read the logs before setting off!! TFTC!!

30/05/17 16:05 Pretty as a picture. Enjoyable short walk to cache. Unfortunately full of water, poor sealing on container & log book a solid mass. Photo logged. Thanks for this, Cheers, GC.
It didn't take too long to find the cache after walking along the very wet track with big drips from the trees landing on us. Unfortunately everything in it is very wet. TFTC
We waited 3 days till the weather forecast were good enough to climb mt taranaki. Today was the first time, that we saw the mountain in its full height on the way into the natiomal park. Really a majestic volcano in the middle of a flat. We started the climb early in the morning and arrived at the top after 3:40h. It was a strenuous hike up there, specific the middle part. One step up and half a step backwards. There was a thick layer of clouds around 2000m. We had a great view from the top but with many clouds. Still fantastic and unforgettable! It was our first volcano that we climbed. We stayed a while up there and had lunch. The way down was faster. Still many many people on the way to the top!
On the way down back to the city we stopped here for this very old cache. Afterthe short walk we looked for ages but couldn't find it. Maybe we were just tired from the hike and because of that a little blind. We found it after a long time of searching. It was not too difficult though.
Thank you so much for this very old cache!

Three catchers plus three muggles spent four weeks in New Zealand and so we browsed along our way. Here we spent 3 days to reach the Taranaki summit
Four weeks we spent together with Lwagnero and Geoded wandering through the beautiful New Zealand and occasionally also searched caches. This was one of them that we found. Thanks and greetings from Czech Republic.
Decided to shoot up Pembroke Rd to get the car park cache. A bit late in the day for roaming in the bush but this one didn't look to far in.
My GPS was off by about 12m but the hint was enough to quickly locate the cache. Unfortunately the contents were rather rather wet including the rather impressive looking log book. Unable to write in the book.

My mission for this summer is to try and find a cache for 30 days and mark off as many difficulty and terrains as I can. So this is cache number two in a row and another difficulty/terrain. Log book needs replacing as it's unuseable
Eventually found this one but it was pretty ruined and soaked. Couldn't write in it.
Thanks for the logs about the current condition of the cache. I'll revisit and clean it up this month.
Found on our way back towards Dawson's Falls. Soaked through so couldn't write in the book
Unfortunately this cache needs replacing ASAP. The container is completely waterlogged. Book unusable. Great track though, we enjoyed the hunt.
along with fiona84 month on a 2 journey through new zealand and australia. on the journey we passed through the cache to beautiful places and were also some very old caches log. many thanks for cherish and maintain the caches.
Together with schrek77 I traveled two months through New Zealand and Australia . First we traveled with a camper for 6 weeks the North and South Island of New Zealand . Then we went to Melbourne where we visited the city and the surrounding area . then we went to closing in the north of Australia . During this time we visited several geocaches and were brought to very nice places through this partially . We also had the opportunity to visit some very old caches , which extremely pleased us . We wish to thank Owner for nurture and cherish the caches .
1779 Back this morning after an aborted attempt last night. I didn't read the description so went to Dawsons Falls. Darkness got the better of me and never got close. Stayed in Stratford so up early to see the sun rise from the plateau. Then down to park the motorhome at Stratford Mountain House. Walked up the road from there. Cache signed and back down the road and on the road back to Hamilton by 8am.
Wow. A cache since 2001. But it's really well hided. Hopefully it remains another 10 years. TFTC Skyryser
(1797) Out with my mates to collect some caches around the mountain. Thanks for taking me to some beautiful spots.
Staying on the mountain nearby. Got up early to stretch the legs and to the right to enjoy a big breakfast before the long drive home. Always nice to grab a really old cache. Great piece of bush too . Tftc
Once in a lifetime we wanted to travel to the other side of the world. This year we took a chance and made a 4 weeks trip to New Zealand! Although caching was not the main purpose, we had our GPS prepared and when we were close to a cache, we of course looked for it and logged it. So we found several dozens of "kiwi-caches" and want to thank all the owners!!
Our way from Wellington to Taranaki was determined by some of the old caches (and some caches, that we found on the way). After starting at GC46 our way lead us north and to this very old cache as final cache of the day. Quite fast find, when you look at the right places. Unfortunately the cace is not in a good state: the logbook is damp and the zip locker bag is broken, the cachebox is not watertight. It would be very cool, if the cache could be repaired before the rain season starts... Thanks for placing & maintaining!

This was a nice find on the way up to the Mount Taranaki carpark. We drove up from Wellington on Sunday afternoon and there was just enough time for us to get a quick cache before setting up camp. TFTC
After finding the Curtis falls cache I headed for this one
Another great spot many thanks and as it has been there a long time a FP from us

Visited Taranaki's oldest geocache with 2 Bulbars. I note it's still in great condition.
Found this one with muezz75 on our 2016 New-Zealand tour.
Fantastic country and lovely people all around!
What a great spot!!! The walk was more than worth to do, the woods really worth to see.
Many thx for showing!

Found after a short search. What a great walk! The sun had come out and the mountain was finally visible - after disappearing completely in the rain cloiuds yesterday. TFTC
Found this with my amazing boyfriend. He is sooo awesome. I couldn't do this without him.
On our tour through New Zealand we visited many inspiring places, enjoyed delicious meals, met friendly locals and tourist AND found some Caches.
So this Cache was one on our trip. Thanks a lot for hiding and maintaining.

Wonderful track in a wonderful part of NZ!!! Yet again my muggle husband was the one who nearly found the treasure without even looking. TFTC
It was a beautiful track! I walked with my Grandma and Granddad. But when we were trying to find the cache we couldn't find it because my Daddy was in the way. We looked quite a long time before we could find it. Daddy, why were you in the way????? So we couldn't find it. TFTC
We stayed the night on the parking area with a great view to the mountain. On the way back we stopped at the patea track to do an early morning walk. It was a nice walk to the cache stash. We searched for a while and luckily we found them. TFTC and greetings from Germany
What a great cache. Not the best of containers but the hide offers excellent protection from the weather. Why do people drop scissors into caches? There was something rather large wandering in the bush close by the track, and I don't think it was a lost geocacher or tramper! And it certainly sounded a lot bigger than any of the six rabbits I saw running around alongside the road! Last one for today on way home. TFTC. Gets a fav from me for its longevity, accurate coordinates and stash hole.
Woohoo!! 100th cache. What a great one to find, well hidden in the goblin forest, and tucked into its own hobbit-hole. Luckily my arms are quite long! Log was very damp, but signable. TFTC
it is indeed hidden quite well
took me a while to find the right spot. after all those months without a find, i had to tip ca. 50ml of water out of the container, but the log is still completely dry
good spot for a cache, nice walk through that enchanted forest. TFTC!

Couldn't find it behind any trees! Bummer! Suspect it's been really well hidden as nobody had found it for months
Found with the Seagnoid on our way home after our successful ascent of Mt Taranaki (my first 5/5 cache!)
-TB, not sure where the other one listed in this cache has got to...?

[green] Here with Etherlord on the way back from an awesome day climbing the hill. Sore legs now, so let's walk a little down the track anyway to find this. Beautiful piece of goblin forest here. Would love to come back and walk some of these tracks. I have circumnavitramped the lower track, but never walked any of the higher tracks (apart from the summit climb today). Alas, no time today.
