Great site to visit

I managed to head to Mount Canobolas after exploring the karsts of Orange, and we loved the nice new information boards and refurbished access roads to the summit - although this meant that some of the information boards for this EarthCache were no longer there so some research was needed. Despite that, most of the information was still readily available and I managed to survive the colder air while reading it. I certainly learnt some new information such as how snow gums are different no other eucalyptus species. On to the Pinnacle next!EarthCache answers have been sent to the CO. TFTC!

This ec took way too long to answer questions. It was cold 4c and windy. Beautiful location.

08-Feb-24
Camped close to the summit on Tuesday night, and was fortunate enough to arrive in time for the sunset. Then I made sure I went up for the sunrise the next morning and it was incredible! Thanks for bringing me up here, what a fascinating place!Standard horrific selfie attached (and answers sent to CO).

A loose plan was hatched for a 3-week road trip with RoamingHowie to explore locations in Country NSW wed not been to before and of course, find a cache here and there.DAY EIGHT: Bye bye Bathurst, hello Orange. This was another touristy item on our must-do list. So we spent some time reading all the info boards, gathering answers - now submitted. Great spot but views a little impeded by the trees. Thanks for bringing us here by placing this cache, howie_sf ~~

02-Jan-24
It was time for the traditional post Christmas road trip. The stockings were emptied of presents, feasts were devoured and great times were had with family and friends. Now to get away!Day 8: Its time to leave Bathurst and venture a little further north west to Orange. Trying to dodge the weather along the way.A nice drive up to the lookout. Lots of trees have grown over time to block the views. I enjoyed wandering around, although I must admit the views from the pinnacle lookout nearby were better. Thanks howie_sf for adding this cache to the worldwide collection for us all to enjoy. ----------------------------------------------------------The Ballarat GeoTour ends on 4 March 2024! Be sure to find all the caches and earn the souvenir before the tour is archived. The [Farewell Ballarat GeoTour Event - GCAFQ8B](https://coord.info/GCAFQ8B) is on 18 February 2024.Looking for caches to find when visiting Victoria? Why not check out the geocaching lists available on the [Geocaching Victoria Website](https://geocachingvictoria.com.au/information/great-caching-lists/). There are plenty to choose from including all of the previous nominees and winners of the Victorian Cache of the Year Awards.

Nice sunny day before the foul weather started for Xmas. Nice and cool up here compared to down below Smile

With the heatwave on in NSW we thought it would be the best time to drive up Mt Canobolas. In fact we even went to K-Mart first to buy some togs, but the staff in K-Mart Orange have never heard the word bikini.Lets just say it wasnt warm and we were happy to have some jumpers in the car. We could see why there was snow here two weeks ago. Almost 10 hours later I can feel my testicles thinking about coming out of their warm hidey hole.We were also in time to see a few more of the key signs of information are no longer present. If it wasnt for some old photos we wouldnt have known they even existed. Definitely a place that everyone who. Ones to Orange needs to visit. tftc

I have sent my answers. The recent renovation of the car park area is fantastic. I love the references to the Wiradjuri people. Thanks for the cache. I have now filled all but 1 day in my April finds!

Camping at the Showgrounds.
This morning we wanted to visit Mount Canobolas so we targeted the caches on the way there & back .
This was a good way to tour the area.
When I was a child & living in Gilgandra our signal was beamed from here. It was good to at last visit the area.
Answers sent to the CO. FP given for the stunning views.
Thankyou howie_sf for placing this cache.

Found with Jemalong and Family and Sophiescout on 30MAY. Waiting for response to answers from CO, hence posting a day late. An amazing view from this location, and great information on the signboards regarding the formation of this place - a very significant place in both our geology and history. TFTC

Cache 7577 on 30 May 2021.

Here in beautiful Orange from the ACT to spend a long weekend with some family members and taste some of the local wines. Might as well grab a few caches while I am in the area I guess, would be rude not to!

I really wanted to grab the three earth caches in the area while here, but looks like this will be the only one, as our time today was taken up with wine tasting! Sent the answers to the CO, and photo attached of self as requested. A gorgeous day to be out and about after a very early and frosty start to the day.

Thanks howie_sf for the earth cache and the fun! Well worth a drive up this hill!

I love visiting orange in autumn, the trees are turning all kinds of beautiful colours, and the weather is cooling down (if you can deal with cold hands when signing logbooks).
This is a good little earth cache where you don’t have to worry about your cold hands from the cold winds on top of the summit.
This is a great lookout with a small history lesson about the local area on the signs and plaques.

08-Apr-21
Found on a lovely autumn day. Today was our day off from the Easter orienteering event being held in Orange so we took a walk to the waterfall and collected the answers to this earth cache. TFTC

We went up yesterday found all the answers which I shall send to the owner ; then a huge storm came on and we made a dash for our accomm which was on Pinnacle road . Got home one minute before the hail hit all this meant no photo!

So nice up here, coming from Sydney where the sky has been grey with smoke for weeks the blue sky was so refreshing. Very informative, tftc!

A beautiful start to the day after staying the night at the campground. I've actually completed this one before but forgot to finish it. Today is the day.

Apologies for the late logging and cut 'n' paste but now Mr & Mrs Castoff are back in the UK at the same time we're catching up on the Geocaching adventures. We took hundreds of photographs but were too busy looking at stunning scenery across NSW and New Zealand to make copious notes. Beautiful part of the world. Can't wait to do it again. SL. TFTC.

Last full day in Orange with megawat60 before we head East to Sydney. So of course we had to include Mount Conobolas in the itinerary. Greatly enjoyed the trek up the mountain, and the views up there. Have gathered the information and sent in the answers. Thanks again howie_sf and a favourite point, this cache is now our highest cache!

Out ‘n about with m4yb getting a few caches.
On my adventure returning to the Midwest district after a 50 year absence. Last full day but can still play“Tourist” and explore closer in and the mount.
Been an awfully long time since I was up here, still has great memories if not some very cold ones. My friend has sent the answers so now I’m logging this find and very pleased to have this on top of the mount. A fav for all the reasons and making it possible to have a smiley face up here.

Thanks for the hide and howie_sf

Christmas duties were over so I thought I would head up yo Mount Canobolas to look for a few butterflies. But first time for a few caches as well.
Photographed the signs and sent the answers to CO. Walked out to Young Man Canobolas and saw a few butterflies - highlight being the Moonlight Jewel (see ordinary photograph) which is a new species for me - my profile photo is a Fiery Jewel

On a business trip to Orange I did not really think that I would get any time for
geocaching but thanks to the circumstances I got the whole weekend off and got
some time to find some caches.

After visiting the Borenore caves I continued my sightseeing around Orange by visiting
this magnificent view point to take a look over the surrounding area. To bad there was
this forest fire last summer so that all tracks are closed but I at least got to see the
view from the top. Really nice!!!

Of course I also gathered the information to answer the questions in this cache and
the answeres has been sent to CO 28/12-2018.

Thanks for showing me this place with a cache.

Tftc Beautiful sunny but windy day

16-Sep-18
We had this earthcache marked as a must do as we passed through the area on our holiday trip through NSW. Google took us the wrong way leading us to a locked gate nearly at the top so a u-turn was necessary and a drive back down the hill through the plantations. Eventually we arrived at the summit on the correct road but not before witnessing the devastation left by the February bushfires
Even though it was a lovely sunny day the cold wind hit us as we exited the car, so jackets were put on before admiring the fantastic views and gathering the answers from the information boards.

Thanks howie_sf for bringing us here to this great geological location.

Find #2153
A cold, rainy morning in Orange. We had plans to find a bunch of caches on our drive to Canberra, but rummaging around in the wet for plastic boxes isn't as fun as doing it in the dry, so we decided to divert this way, and head up the mountain, for the EC and 3 GA trigs. It was 6 degrees, rainy, cloudy and windy, I suspect the windchill was at freezing. We could barely see the road in front of us let alone a view, but it was a cool side trip in any case. I quickly photographed the signs and other stuff and got back in the car.
We'll come back up here on a warm summers day one day....

Had some time to kill so what better way to do this and drive to the top and do an earthcache. Great views on this clear day. Had to pass a couple of cyclist on the way up and guessed they must be dreaming of the Tour du france . Interesting questions and we read all the info about the place. TFTCM

My mum and I attempted this Earthcache while on our way back to Canberra - I was on my learners and had driven all the way from Canberra to Port Lincoln and back! A great road trip to improve my driving skills and experience.

We were doing some exploring around Orange and decided to drive up Mt Canobolas. Impressive views from the top on a clear summers day. We spotted workers climbing on the radio towers doing some repairs - must be a pretty precarious job. Photos have been attached that I took on the day of our visit. Great history of the area, thanks for taking us up here with an interesting Earthcache. Lots to be learnt. Answers have been sent to the CO.

Our thanks to howie_sf.

Visiting Orange/Bathurst on holidays for 5 days from Brisbane. First time I have been to the Mount Canobolas. It was great to be at the top and be able to look all around the Orange district. There were muggles up here while there, but I looked as if I was a tourist (which I was), however at same time writing down the answers for this Earth Cache. Sent answers to the CO. TFTEC

I picked a chilly day to do this cache! I ventured up with 4 others but unfortunately I couldn't convince any of them to get out of the car into the windy cold. So I set about completing this cache on my own. I've been up for the sunrise once before and it was beautiful, despite the cold it was beautiful today as well. It was interesting to read the boards and answer the questions, I didn't read the info last time. Thanks for the excuse to venture up here again today Smile TFTC

It was a freezing evening as I got up just in time to watch the sunset. In darkness spent about 30 minutes getting the answers. Shame there was so many bogans around spoiling it for others.

After a walk around the lake, where we picked up a few of the series of caches there, we drove up to the summit of Mt Canobolas to take in the magnificent views and do the earthcache. I have sent my answers to the CO.

We always like an earth cache and Mt C had been one our goals for the day. Great views from up top and those towers are certainly big up close. We gather the information for the earth cache and also went to repair the other cache nearby. TFTC.
