TFTC. We left Townsville this morning heading to Charters Towers. On the way a truck threw up a rock and put a nice huge star on the windscreen. Mingela was the first opportunity to stop to assess the damage and put some nail polish in the crack to stop it spreading too far. We pulled up at GZ to make a few insurance calls and get sorted. After that we went in search of the caches here and in town. Quick find here the container was in the open. Signed log and hid container. Log is full , unfortunately we did not have a replacement handy.

A second stop in this little town. In my book, it's good to bring life to cemeteries.
Not much space in this log now. We squeezed in below goingplaces2. Thanks HDSpringer.

Our travels continued today towards Charters Towers and Townsville. We just picked up a selection of caches along the route. Each one had its log signed and was replaced in position before we moved on.
This was one of those caches that you can walk straight to, as it was in the only place it could be. Container found, log signed, all done.
Thank you HDSpringer for placing this cache.

Surprisingly well kept area that is emptier than one would expect from the size of the location.

20-Oct-17
Moving day today from Townsville to Charters Towers. Travelling with our 24ft caravan on tow and being after all the rain of the last few days we were very careful with where we pulled over.

Luckily we managed to stay safe and not get bogged. Really loving using Geocaching as our tour guide as we travel around Australia.

This one was a bit of a challenge for us but we managed to find a safe spot to pullover and keep the van on hard ground some 200mts from GZ, then just a quick dash by Mr Felix to add our name to the log.

Lovely well cared for resting place.

03-Aug-17
Cleaning up a couple of more caches before leaving town, particularly multi's as they are with more tokens in the Geocaching Pirate hunt this week we then headed towards Ayr caching our way along.

This was our first stop in town and we certainly took the less direct route to get here. We went to locate the cache first incase any muggles turned up which happily was found nice and quickly and our name was added to the log. We then went for a walk through the resting residents picking up little bits of history of the area.
We agree with The Reluctant companion that this would be a very nice spot to enjoy eternity.

Thanks again HDSpringer for the cache.

Left a cold Adelaide about three weeks ago and finally found the warmth up this far.
Stopped here for a find and sign and a cuppa.
Cache , again. was out in the open. It may be animals doing the deed but it was put back in the obvious place.
I think the founding fathers were expecting a lot form their "new town", by surveying such a large area for the local cemetery.

14-Jul-17
Lying put in the open so I put iy back in a less obvious but typical place. TftC.

Though sure it is quite serene during the day was a little spooky searching during a light drizzle at night at this location. Found cache out in the open, signed log and returned cache to a more protected area nearby. TFTC TNLN

First for the day and a quick find. Then wandered around checking out the graves. Certainly mixed up with the grave of a 7 month old from the 1890's next to one from 100 years later! Many of the graves looked sadly neglected but then the town was in a similar state. Certainly not wasting any money on paint in it!
Thanks, originally planned on getting this one on the wsy from Charters Towers to Townsville but ended up going the other way via the Undara lava tubes so quite a detour to come back out here again.

21-Jun-16
TFTC replaced zip lock bag and left a couple of rubbers

06-Apr-16
Headed further out to this poor old one horse town. Pub is still going (looks like someone's backyard) but the rest of the services are long gone. Walked out through the old cemetery which has relatively recent graves and found the cache. Signed and replaced. Always a sad place to see the graves of those who died young.
Thanks.

Was a hard find due to someone shoving it a place that was out of sight. Needed a stick to knock it out due to many spiders. Container needs maintenance as both clips a broken. Signed log and left some foreign coins.

21-Jul-15
On our way to Macrossan we stopped by here to grab a couple of caches. Cache was found in a place thats not a good hide. Container needs replacing the lid clips are both broken now. Sorry we didn't have anything in the van to use. Love old resting areas. I see it still being used too. After a wander around it was time to head off.
Caching with Ratdog12 and our muggle friends.

love these old places so much history to find. found the cache, yes something has been escalating the hide but where we found it wasn't very good, both the lid hinges have broken now so we replaced the cache and its cover into the obvious place, coordinates were spot on too. don't get that too often.

Found this cache on a day trip out from Townsville:)
An animal has dug out the burrow and so cache is around the base with some camp.
Cache is in good condition, however missing one clip of the container so doesn't close tightly.

Find #206

So, I decided to go for a drive this weekend.
Headed out from Mackay on Saturday and headed for Clermont.
Not enough so went to Charters Towers and stayed the night.
Done a few caches in Charters and then headed for Townsville.
Stayed the night and headed home on Monday.
Glad it was a long weekend.

While spending a week in nearby Charters Towers we decided to have a drive to the Burdekin Dam and cache on the way.

We always enjoy visiting old cemeteries....they can reveal many stories (and very often sad ones) about the lives and hardships endured, particularly by our early pioneers.

Many thanks for bringing us here HDSpringer[^]

Day for a trip to Charters Towers to have a look at the town and to do some caching.
Did not clear CT completely, realized that I would not do all the long multi caches today, on top of that I had some DNF. On the way there I did a proper job of logging all caches close to the road.
This was easier than I thought
Thanks for the cache

[font=Comic Sans MS]Hi there HDSpringer. We found your cache "Pioneer's Rest 2." at 10:55:00 AM today.
This was our 3rd cache find in a caching run of 11 Finds & 0 DNFs today. (So this now makes our find count 9778.)
[Blue]
We are trying to log at least one cache every day, so we can add to our streak of "Most Consecutive Days Cached", which we started on New Years Day 2014. Our route today took us to some really wonderful & scenic locations.

[/Blue]
Coordinate Accuracy: We found the cache around 2m from where the GPS said we should be looking.
Cache Condition: Container and log book are in good shape.
Took: Nothing.
Left: Party Popper.
Thanks for the hunt today,
Regards
Ian & Penny.

Another quick find today. It was literally lying in front of me when I arrived at GZ. I think a new living soul has taken up residence in the cache's original home so I placed it within 50 centimetres but out of view and where hopefully it won't be dug up again. TNLN SL TFTC HDSpringer

Hi HDSpringer, Just to let you know that the home of your cache has become something (someone) else's home and the cache was lying on top of the housecleaning nearby. I have hidden it within 50cms but you may prefer to check for yourself and replant it elsewhere. Thanks for the cache.

On a caching road trip with MattCNS. We departed Townsville and headed out on the Flinders Highway out to Mingela. From here we turned south and drove down to the historic township of Ravenswood. Then it was down to Ayr and back to Townsville via the Bruce Highway.

Dead quiet at the GZ today! Wink Found the cache out in the open when I arrived at the GZ. Looks like an animal had been digging around in the caches hidy hole and flicked it out. Matt had previously found the cache before and confirmed that I returned it to the correct spot.

After a visit to towne and finding that you can make an olde fashioned phone call from an olde fashioned telephone box, I headed out to find where the pioneers of the area had gone to.

They have a huge cemetery for so few residents Smile
And some of those residents have been resting peacefully here for a long time !

TFTC and diversion out to see the stones.
And now that I was diverted from the highway I followed the road to Ravenswood Big Grin

Found at 3:23 PM GAFF1. Why was there a town here in the first place? So isolated and small.
The girls at the pub as we passed were quite alluring to someone!
So many rough and unmarked graves - someone has o know about their existence and look after them don't they?
Thanks HDSpringer.
