Our stage today takes us from Kaikoura to Picton. On the way we see sea lions again, many wineries, unusual stones and trees and great beaches. The caches also take us to places we would not have otherwise visited. This way we explore the area and can turn some caches into friendly smileys. A big thank you to all owners and greetings from the Moorhelmi from Germany
On today's journey from Blenheim to Christchurch, I decided to take a wee detour to get to this site. And what an interesting place it was to visit. The cache was found without difficulty. All good here.
On a road trip with Net61 exploring Kaikoura and finding as many caches as we can. Lots of leaves at gz, but we dug down and found the cache. Log is mushy and needs replacing. Interesting machinery in the shed here. TFTC
Getting in a bit of R&R by going south. Didn't get too many caches but stopped by this one to have a look at the machines. TFTC
After a enjoyable morning doing stuff around blenhiem with my mother asked if there was anything I wanted to do for the afternoon and even joked about going down to kaikoura. Remembering that I had a jasmer down that way I had a look at the map and asked if we could go for that. Well she said yes and so off we went picking up caches along the way. I found plenty on the trip but mum was happy with her 10 as she had previously cached this area out. TFTC
Having been on call all weekend I was keen to get out and about. Went for a decent walk and swim at Ward beach then headed back to Blenheim collecting some caches. Enjoyed exploring around GZ and reading the history inside. Cache and log all fine. Thanks for pointing out this place.
Thank you for all the information on the local history.Another place we would not have visited if not for caching. Thank you.
6 January 2024 14:05 TFTC bumandworker for placing this cache, number 13264 for me. A diversion on the way back to the ferry.
**20,337**A nice quick find here and then we took a moment to look through the temporary museum here. TFTC
Thanks for putting a cache here
Would never of visited this place otherwise. A wee hidden gem

A very interesting place that we probably wouldn't have stopped at if it wasn't for this cache. Thanks for bringing us here and a quick find
I hope the locals can get a museum up and running again. Meanwhile thanks for getting us to stop here and find the cache

Another lovely day to stretch Bumblebees legs. After some thinking on the previous hide and after bypassing the railway I stopped here for an easy one.
We are camped at Ward beach with our cat Coco at the POP. Have left her on guard while we have a day out exploring the area. This is a great interesting and informative spot. Thanks for the cache bumandworke.
Had a fossick around for this one but SJT_NZ had hopped over the style and gave the trusty whistle. A relatively quick find and time to checkout the local museum of sorts as well.
Found when heading back to Blenheim, a short detour as you do when geo-caching.
Quick find.

One of eight caches located today between Ward Beach and Kaikoura. Very interesting history at this spot. The cache was a quick find. #4778. TFTC.
Loved the history here..sadly very wet day ..but did take time to enter the museum..incredible collection especially the old cookerthanks B&W
What a treasure trove here. Amazing history an I really appreciate being brought here through geocaching. Thanks for the cache bumandworker
Great spot, very interesting history. A few locals are working on the historical information project. No cache like the previous cacher, I found the rock but no cigar. Thanks for bringing me here b&w. Would give it a FP if I could even with no find.
Ha! Had another look, further through the fence and located it. Well hidden under leaf litter AND now under rock as per hint. Watch for barbed wire.
Heading North we had to do a bit of a detour to find this one..At GZ we frightened a tiny wee Kitten and he disappered into the Shed, and we found the Cache as described..TFTH
Stopped off here for a quick, snag, tag and sanitise on our way out of Ward. Cheers
The original plan was to walk Lake Chalis with Raphael, my temporary house guest. But with the rain front coming up from the south we changed plans and came to Ward Beach. Stopped in on TS on the way through Blenheim to pick up my wayward GPS and we are off with packed lunches and handy dandy wipes and gloves, the latest addition to my caching kit. We have enjoyed our walk to The Needle and now heading home trying to scoop up a few other caches along the way. Its been a great day out. We finally hit the rain at Tuamarina, so alls good.

Another spot you would never visit as a foreigner without a geocache nearby. Thanks for showing this interesting place. TFTC
Our orienteering event was just over the road the following day. Just loved going into the Red Shed and reading the history, looking at the photos and farm implements. A real highlight, and the history of the area is fascinating. Great! TFTC
Thanks for this cache, b&w - I thought that I had found it on a previous expedition, but my name wasn't in the log - must have been a DNF back in my early caching days !
A fascinating shed, thanks for highlighting this for us.
I'm on a road trip back to Christchurch with warfi after enjoying the Wellington Mega.

This is why we love geocaching, it makes you stop at places like this!!! Usually we would have just driven by and thought 'Oh, there's a little old shed' but there is more to this little old shed!!! We went inside and had a good look around, just amazing, love it!
got muggled at the last one so explained geocaching to a very interested farmer. this cache there he was again fixing his water pump so showed him what a geocacher is
Nice easy find on our way to Ward Beach. Interesting little collections of machinery in the shed. TFTC
Such an interesting place to stop, and one I would never have stopped at were it not for the cache. Heaps of interesting history and information. We have some (until recently unrealised) history here too - a great grandfather who was once a shearer in these parts, apparently helped build the road north and was also a champion Marlborough boxer.
Been past here many times on our way to the beach but never stopped to read the history , Thanks b&w for the history lesson.
The first of several planned adventures down the East coast for Team Walker NZ today. A stunning Spring day which was a welcome relief after a week of rain! Headed as far as Ward Beach today but we are aiming to get to the 'end of the road' in the next few weeks before 'the end of the road' shifts Great spot here with lots of information and history. Just what we like to find. TFTC
Quick find here without needing the hint. Was a little exposed, maybe due to the quake. Recovered well and TFTC.
Managing a welfare facility in Ward with food, water, toilets and showers after the earthquake. Time for a quick couple of caches during a break. The old shed has survived with not much damage. 19 November 2016 16:54 GH6710 T F T C bumandworker
Found with NZDi. Today is International Earthcache Day and there is a souvenir up for grabs and as my only unfound earthcache in Marlborough is this one, there was only going to be one place I was going to cache today and that is the Ward District.
Fortunately this area had been neglected by us in the past so we decided to make a day of it, despite the weather forecast, and have a go at clearing the area. So with 21 caches saved as a pocket query into the phone and backup GPS we packed a picnic lunch and headed for places south.
Unfortunately we didn’t achieve our target as a high tide and spring river flows in the Flaxbourne River prevented us from crossing and getting Ward River Bridge and Needle Rock Beach Walk along with a DNF at another cache, so we ended up with 18 for the day, which we were happy with.
After leaving Ward Beach and the caches we got there, we headed towards the small rural township of Ward, where a high proportion of the caches appear to be Multis. Along the way we stopped here for a QEF PnG and a brief lesson in local history. It’s amazing to think that these bareen hills could only support less than one stock unit per acre.
Thanks for bringing us here.

Found with Kiwimykl while out geocaching in the Flaxbourne District. Refer to his log for details.

It is good to explore an area that is usually a quick drive past. Thanks for the history lesson. TFTC
A very interesting place with a lot of history ,boy I would hate to have been a shearer back then they probably had to shear the sheep by hand. Thanks for the cache.Bumandworker.
With a few more days of holidays left we decided to head south again and find some caches we didn't have time to look for last week, plus some more off the beaten track. This one was our first find of 51 for the day and the first of many interesting stops.
Thank you bumandworker.
Thank you bumandworker.
Our recent multi day Canterbury cache raid was so successful we decided to have another one before the holidays finished. Again we got stabbed, prodded, pricked and scraped by the variety of hedges the region is so famous for. And of course we can now hold our breath a lot longer. A skill well worth developing to avoid breathing in part of the road surface every time a vehicle passes. Just over 200 finds were logged this time and a great time was had finding the caches with a variety of shapes, sizes and placements. A big thank you to all COs who made this possible.
Good spot for cache. Take care. Hard hat handy on a windy day.Falling acorns aplenty tftc

We love it when geocaching brings us to little gems of places like this that we would never have seen otherwise. We went in the sheep shed and read the info panels - I loved the one about how children should behave around adults! TFTC

One of those, "Would never had found this if it wasn't for GCing" moments. An absolutely incomprehensible number of sheep raised to make candles and soap!

Heading out to the beach - weather seems to be holding ok. This is a quiet spot today - loads of mud around though so needed a bit of jumping.
Cache a bit muddy on the outside - but all good on the inside.

After lunch at the beach we made a quick stop here. Tftc. Nice way to start the year
First looked at the wrong side of the road, then find the correct little museum.
This place really deserves a cache, Thank you for taking us here!!! Great history with some beautiful saying on the wall

O Boy!!! what a full on 5 days of caching. Driving/Sailing to attend the Christchurch Mega Event with Squirrel Nutcase and also picking up caches on the way to help us complete our Dot Days and Challenges we are currently trying to fulfill. We traveled to so many places that we have never visited before and with 240 plus caches later knew we had had an eventful few days.
12.25pm - Spent more time looking at the old equipment than it took to find cache. Somebody has a large project on their hands. SLTFTC

With Gap (of Fap and Gap)...
On our way to NZ Mega Christchurch 2015, and caching as we go. We planned to stay close to the main highway and only venture off into the countryside where appropriate... That didn't always work for us. A 4-5 hour journey ended up taking us almost two days; such was the sheer number of caches we encountered along the route.
We are pleased to report that almost all of the caches we stopped for were in place and in good order. Besides a bit of dampness, there was nothing of concern. This is a feat that cache owners in this area of the country can be proud of... We thank you... Thank you for bringing to our attentions areas of significance. We enjoyed discovering scenic areas, historical and social locations, and other personally meaningful spots.
As stated, we found loads of caches... If we were to write an individualised note for each one, we'd never get the logging done. Hence, there will be a lot of cutting and pasting going on... My apologies!!
Marlborough: We were in the area for another find, so this was a logical stop. We were impressed to find a walk-in display of old farming implements, though this probably needs some refurbishment. TFTC.

On our way from Picton to the CHCH Mega today. 3rd stop today. Expecially detoured to grab this one today, if fits the bill for a challenge we are working on. Needed 19 mins on the co-ords. Was a great surprise as to how interesting this stop was. Thanks for bringing us to a great historical site. Quick find. SL. TFTC.

Appears that cattle have been here. Cache container broken & found in the open exposed. Log still dry and safe in bag.
We guessed the best place to hide near by. We hope this will suffice.

Mallorcatommy, con/limon and I were on our journey through the southern island of New Zealand. With the help of geocaches we came to so many beautiful places, saw breath-taking landscapes and had, all in all a very wonderful journey! Thank you to all owners for placing all those nice geocaches!
Every day we are traveling around is same but also different. Today we had again the pleasure to visit some very beautiful spots and were also able to find nearly placed geocaches. I thank every single owner for placing it and giving us with doing this an other good reason to come here.
