Another day doing the caching rounds. Decided to stick a bit closer to where we are staying today and try to clean this area up.
We prefer the back road caches that get us out enjoying the countryside. Some don't get many visitors. This was last found almost 2 years ago. tftc

A nice drive up here today to grab a few caches. Road sign said road closed but must have been past the GC. No problems with the road. TFTC
Took some time out to find a couple of caches this morning. A quick find here. Enjoyed the ride and the views. Tftc
Found on the way to the Oamaru Geofest. Stopped at Waikouaiti to get some lunch which I had at Bucklands Crossing then a wee detour up here. TFTC
Heading to Palmerston with the intend of getting caches to the west of the main drag. A quick find on a sunny day in Dunedin but drizzly up north on the coast.
Another stunning Dunedin day. Pack a picnic, find somewhere we haven't been before, add some caches and we have the makings of a glorious day out. Thanks to all CO's for making a wonderful day possible. Never been through here before. the views are outstanding. I think they are my ideal image of this magnificent country
Nice drive through the quite bleak morning, and a quick find while tunfisk was looking for survey marks TFTC!!

Road seemed to get a bit narrower after here. Hmmmm maybe it had something to do with who looks after this bit. Found with debsnz
What a lovely road that I would of never ventured down if it wasn't for geocaching. Thanks Bitsprayer for bringing us to this spot. Cache quickly found. TFTC
After a cautious drive in from the Southern end of Quarry road I arrived at the border. No guards on duty today so it was a quick grab before moving on. By the look of things this border may have be disputed in the past !
9895... Headed up to meet WDC and DCC with ishoot, so glad we didn't meet any other traffic enroute here. Interesting to see one half of the sign more shot up than the other, TFTC.
Shot up sign on the DCC side, so either the folks from WDC don't get on with the folks from Dunedin or the folks from Dunedin are bad shots thanks for this one.
Long drive but some beautiful country round here. Thanks for taking me to it.

Mama has to work today but Granville is visiting from Invercargill so he, Papa and Guwapo packed into the CacheMobile and headed out for a days caching. Didn't get to check out the DCC road as we turned around and went back the way we came. Judging from the previous logs it was just as well. Salamat!
Great day of geocaching with gpsmith and walgl399. We all agreed that the WDC side of the road was better maintained than the DCC side. Maybe suggestive by the bullet holes in the border sign?
Yup, I think WDC definitely wins this one! I've never noticed a sign like this on any of my other travels. Surprised that there was such a noticeable change in road surface at this point, TFTC.
Found at 14:39 on 21/11/2010.
Out a Waikouaiti for the day and realised I hadn't found this cache. Quick find as the rains began.
TFTC Bitsprayer!

Great find in another location close to home. Enjoyed the motor bike ride down with Mr 9
A wee trip I used to do quite often to compare the level of maintenance this road was receiving, I would have to say this morning it was close to 50 / 50 until I met a mob of sheep which did nothing for my sense of humour so the Waitaki side was looking pretty good after this!
Thanks

There was plenty of sheep dung on the road of the WDC side and none on the DCC side. What does that tell you?
Hmmm, perhaps I don't pay enough attention to roading because both sides looked pretty good to me. TFTC!
A quick find in a very remote location.
Interesting detour away from the main road on our way back to Oamaru from Dunedin.

Have little recollection of this cache other than it being dark, a gravel road, and at the end of a long day caching. Which meant it was all good Cheers Gav [6553]
FTF. Looks like graders from both councils have recently been over the road so both sides are in reasonable shape. However, I distinctly recall travelling this road on another occasion and noticing a definite improvement in surface quality as you left the DCC maintained side and entered the WDC section. There are plenty of other roads around where you pass from DCC maintained to sections maintained by bordering roading authorities such as Waitaki, Central Otago District Council and Clutha District Council. Almost always my experience is that the DCC maintained sections are in poorer condition.
