Stayed at Mangaweka Campground over Easter weekend. We were keen to visit the reserve after reading the description but unfortunately we couldn't find the cache. The area is a little overgrown and it was getting dark when we visited which made searching a little difficult, also reading previous logs the cache has possibly been moved from its original spot which makes it harder to know where to focus our searching! Thanks anyway, we had fun exploring the old train tunnel and we saw a morepork on our way out which was lovely
unfortunately after a hot uphill tramp with 3 kids in tow, this cache was not to be had.
We gave it a thorough search, with me scrambling on my hands and knees, but no cache. Even tried the alternative coordinates.
A local jogger and his dog must have thought we were crazy (or had lost a contact lens!)
Still a nice area to explore - so even without the cache, thanks for bringing me here.

Reread some logs and noticed that the last finder moved the cache to where they thought it should be! Well I guess the hint may or may not apply now.
Had the day off work and Mrs Rubbishparty visiting for the school holidays so headed out towards Hunterville for some caching. Last time I looked for this it was gone and the CO kindly replace it. Read the recent found logs and was optimistic that I would be changing this sad face into a smiley. Was not to be. Had a search according to the hint and with WEKA’s coordinates but could not find the cache.
Easy find. But it wasn’t at the location on gps so moving it to where it should be
Great walking track. Love the container. Owukd have fou d sooner if it wasn't for brother
After seeing this cache on the map being created by my favourite COs I couldn’t pass up the chance to go for a walk and find it.
Whoa, what a mission that was! On scenic walks like this a usually take my time but as the boys and my wife were sitting in the car o decided to jog most of the way.
Thankfully once I made it to GZ it was a nice and easy find. Now to head back to the car. I’m unsure if I should press on or head back the way I came so I’m going with the latter. At least I’ll be climbing down the hills I climbed up at the start!
FP awarded. TFTC angela&ian!

Find number 7272. Decided to stop and have a look for this one. Enjoyed the walk to GZ although I did huff an puff a bit. I spent some time looking at GZ and even tried the alternate coords mentioned. All to no avail. So it was back to where I thought it should be where I sat and contemplated. I was able then to get my hands on it. Thank you for the placement.
We struggled our way along the extremely overgrown lower old railway section of the track, and were beginning to despair of finding a track up the hill, when we finally came to one right at the end. We made our way up eventually to reach the cache location. We used the hint to locate the cache, as for us it was 15 metres south of he coordinates at S39 48.641 E175 46.824. The well bagged cache has remained dry so far. TFTC
Thanks for replacing the cache. It was a great walk and I look forward to doing it again some time hopefully with more success.
Replacement cache planted today, with the container wrapped in two plastic bags to hopefully keep things dry. Apologies for the delay - health issues, but eventually made it.
After replacing the cache we retired to the Awastone rafting complex which includes a café, just over the bridge. Well worth a visit and there maybe live music on Sunday evenings

Ohakune to Fielding today. Planning to attend the event there this evening. Collecting as many caches along the way as we can. Stopped for the 3 caches in Mangaweka and to have lunch. Had a wonderful walk round the reserve but no smiley. Reread the activity and see that the last “found” was actually a DNF. Not actually found since 2018. Could do with maintenance.
A nice but muddy walk. No luck for us .... always a bit disappointing when a cache a fairway fron cilvilisation is so hard to find and is unlikely to have been muggled.

Road trip to Manawatu this weekend.
Started out with four of us going then someone bailed a few hours before we were due to leave.
Collected NZ Flossy, arrived in Rotorua to collect the Squirrel who had misread info, thinking we were going for the day only so quick change, more clothes gathered and off south we went.
Plan was to start about Waiouru and see how far we could get before stopping for the night.
We travelled roads that none of us had being on before. Lots of different caches, some that hadn't been found for over a year and a couple that had DNF's but we found and even one that we had to turn into Spiderman to collect.
Great first day and stopped in Marton for the night which is an interesting town. SLTFTC

With Gap (of Fap and Gap), and NZFlossy... Heading South and hoping to get a big jump on the Mythical Creatures souvenirs.
There had been some talk of a mission into the Manawatu-Wanganui Region during the week. I hadn't paid much attention to any of the planning conversations, and only discovered this morning that this was going to be an overnight trip. I had to hurriedly pack a few things... The beauty of travelling a long distance is that you can spend a lot of time chatting... that definitely helps to pass the time away. The problem for us is that we have cleared most of the driving route of caches, so our first stop was in Waiouru - 2.5 hours away from home...
This journey gave us some opportunity to leave the main road and venture into the countryside. This is a cache that has been on the radar each time we have driven past. However, we have always had time constraints, until today... The track up was very wet and muddy. There were several patches where the exposed soil was slippery underfoot. It took some time to locate the cache, and the logbook was very wet. Thanks for bringing us to this interesting location. It was good to discover some parts of the old railway line through this section (the tunnel in the adjacent farm)... TFTC.

On a road trip with Gap (Of Fap and Gap) and squirrel nutcase heading south for them to get some new caches. I haven't done anywhere as many as them so I got a few extra picking up ones they already had. I have never been out this way before and loved the beautiful scenery - This one was a very muddy and slippery walk and cache took a lot of searching. Good to be visiting some lonely caches and stretching the legs. Tunnel across the other side also looked interesting TFTC
Have always meant to do this walk but never had enough time. Today was the day and Pagenz and I had a great loop walk finding this cache, went high first and then came down towards the cache and then a very pleasant flat walk back to the car. As others have mentioned the log book is very damp. Thanks for bringing us here, it really is a beautiful piece of NZ.
Nice quick find here with a very good hint, awesome place to come for a nice bush walk , would hate to be walking in here after a lot of rain.As per the last log this is very very wet. We managed to do the whole loop tftc.
After going for a cheeky look at the tunnel we came back to hunt for the cache, we went left, wishing I wasn't wearing my hoodie as it was getting hot, loved the views. Thanks for the placement.
Staying at the nearby camp with a group of fellow campers and enjoying exploring the area. Amazing spot with the river and cliffs around us. a nice day to ride around and explore the area. We left tour bikes a the entrance to the track and chose to go clockwise up to the cache. A good walk on a hot day but nice bush spots to go through. After a steady climb up we found GZ and cache was soon in hand. Great view of the valley and two from the top. Thanks for the cache and bringing us up here.
Anyone familiar with Mangaweka will recognise our Avatar... Mum and Dad got married in Mangaweka in Dec 2000 - when the paint was a lot fresher!
The family were holidaying at the campground - a first for a few of the family members; and in between rafting down the river, managed to attempt this cache.
The weather had been hot and dry, so no issues with the state of the ground underfoot. Mum spotted the cache quickly, but let 3YO "make the find".

Cache 11 of 42 - Out with Tommygun9 & Spudnz on an afternoon excursion to the mountains Got to experience a lot of different climates on today's adventure.. Rain, hail, sun, wind and even a bit of snow thrown in for good measure! After a walk through the slippery underground and boggy tracks it was off up the hill in search of the cache. Spudnz located the cache which at first was mistaken for something else, then it was off up and around the rest of the track back to the truck - Cheers FTC!
Off on an afternoon geocaching mission with tommygun9 and hunterhillson. It was truly a 'four seasons in one day' excursion. It started with heavy hail followed by a torrential rain, driving wind and eerily quiet snow falling on the desert road. The sun even made an appearance on occasions. We found between 25 to 45 caches each and finished with an unlikely first to find back in my hometown.
We weren't quite sure where the start of the track was but we kept driving and it was just around the corner from where we initially parked. We started by following the old rail track. It was quite wet and boggy in places, lucky I was prepared with adequate footwear today. We found the cache relatively quickly and headed back to the car. We had a few slips on the way down but no one fell over. Great little walk. Thanks for the cache and the smiley.

We debated bush bashing in to this one before the parking area and actual entry became clear. From there we went anti-clockwise, and the lower part is intend wet and muddy! I lasted for a bit before my shoes succumbed to the moisture and left me with wet feet for the rest of today's mission.
SpudNZ made the find and then we left via the top and, of course, it only rained while we were in clearings. I had a few inadvertant attempts at skiing down the slope but we all made it out staying vertical.
The nearby old tunnel is a cool sight and it explains the large concrete blocks on the other side that I'd always wondered about.

Its amazing how many times one drives through places like Mangaweka never realizing what there is such a short distance from the main road. We did the loop in an anti-clockwise direction but in hindsight the other way round would probably have been better. Lost the track a bit on our way down but not for too long. tftc
With this Saturday morning dawning dry and clear I decided we would go out towards Mangaweka. After a lovely return trip to the nearby White Cliff boulders following our first visit last November it was off to this cache which was showing as a green aberration on my Geocaching map. I suppose I'd been put off with tales of slippery hills to climb and poorly formed tracks but today was decided to be the day to turn this cache into a yellow smiley face (hopefully)
We parked at the suggested co ordinates and decided it didn't matter which way we traversed, clock wise or anti clock wise, it's still be the same distance if we walked the loop anyway.
Tally the trusty Geo dog led the way with boundless energy up and down the path ways and checking where I and mrs capperz along with nightowl19 were. Took about 40 minutes to get around the whole loop and the cache was found fairly easily but downhill from the hinted area I'd say. Managed to liberate a trackable that had been hanging tough since A N Z A C Day, a travel boot.
Nice place to hide a cache and another typical Angela &Ian location, which we all enjoy and look forward to. Yet another place we wouldn't have visited if it wasn't for Geocaching, nice one
T F T C and off for lunch now, think we've earned it!

A nice little walk before going to lunch, a nice way to end the geocaching day!!
With Tally the dog and Mr and Mrs capperz,
Tally loved the walk the most, running from tree to tree sniffing and smelling the different smells!!

Went up here anti-clockwise....probably easier going the other way as we found out on the way back around the loop. Took us about 10 minutes of searching to find the cache, i thought it was just rubbish to begin with since it was in a bread bag. Enjoyed the little walk.
Found after a brief search around the edge of the clearing. Dropped off geocoin and took a shell. Tftc.
Put cache in bread bag to help keep the moisture out.
I go up the track anti-clockwise, up the stepped track that turns off not far in. The slippery bits at the far end I think are easier coming down.
I asked DoC about the number pegs and got this reply:
"There was an interpretation brochure which corresponded to the numbered pegs when the track was set up many years ago. However this is no longer relevant because of changes to the vegetation etc.
It is intended to upgrade and possibly re-route this track in places in the near future. After this upgrade it is possible further interpretation will be installed but there are no definite plans yet."

Wet and slippery today. No rain, just winter conditions and track is not maintained at all and we found great care was needed in places as Mrs went onto her bum badly. After a very steep climb on a slippery track (both ends)we negotiated our way to a mid point clearing, the CZ. The hint was no help as we saw no sign of the "prickly fern", but found under a bush. Log book was damp but not soggy. Removed junk that was saturated.
A bit of a slippery walk, and I wish I had worn my gumboots. It took a while to find cache(s), GPS wasn't much help and cache was covered well. Signed both logs and rehid as found. The walk would be much better in summer, and as per "the Seagnoid" comment, identifying the stops would make this a great cache, please consider doing this. TFTC.
I’d advise that this shouldn’t be attempted anytime within 48 hours of rain (or winter…). We went around the track, and arrived at GZ to find that the hint meant nothing to us! Searched a while, and then found the cache(s). Signed both logs, TFTC
Wandered up here with a few friends on hte way home after 4 days board gaming at Kauwhatau Outdoor Pursuits Centre. Went anti-clockwise around the loop, I recommend clockwise, but it doesn't matter much. Rained this morning and the ground was quite slippery in places, and none of us had good boots for this terrain. Sam was wearing her slippers! (we were board gaming, remember). Found the cache left out in the wide open, everything VERY wet, but was just able to sign the log. On putting it back I found a second container, also with a very new logbook, this time completely dry. I signed that as well. Hid both containers beside each other. Not great hiding where I found it, so covered with some leaf litter. And carried on around the loop. Angela and Ian - I notice that this is also a nature trail. Could you please dig up the nature trail document and identify all the stops in the cache description? I know most of them, but I am sure many cachers would be interested.
By the way - no TB in the cache

Great little walk for New Years day, used up some of the festive cheer. We found it damp and no TB. TFTC
This takes care of the caches in Mangaweka, at time of finding at least.
Nice easy find when heading up here from the Mangaweka camp ground.
No TB present and cache a little bit damp, but dipped some TB/GC's in and replaced.
Now, down to the local that doubles as the bottle shop in Mangaweka as our supplies are getting thin.

Nice walk and good to have a seat to sit on! For some reason, I had in my head that this cache was a 5 min easy stroll. It was definitely half an hour each way with steep terrain and we were not prepared (young children: no shoes, tired, hungry etc.!) But despite that we had fun getting there.
Walked the loop and eventually came upon the correct spot and found cache. I do not recommend doing this bare foot or wearing jandals

Nice workout. A little concerned that cache had not been logged for some time and the amount of cobwebs I walked through was a testament to that. Noted also that coordinates had been changed but it was a great day for a walk so gave it a go. Sat down to ponder the hint and saw the cache. Happy Easter. TFTC

We suggest an owner check on this cache in case it has been moved. Despite clear skies and plenty of satellites today, the GPS was well out. The hint was inaccurate too - no sign of anything log-like with the cache, and it was in the upper part of the clearing, not the lower. Also, what does "true left" actually mean in this context? Thanks for bringing us here, though.
The old rail route was a little muddy - no problem. In fact we met friendly DOC staff cutting grass, clearing the track, and who are now alerted to no 12 being of significance - as they're updating the guide using these markers. The whole loop made for a good bush walk. We enjoyed the views and the trees. Thanks for bring us here.
We did have problems at the cache site, however. The GPS was way off, as was most of the hint. We were about to give up when Mr g decided on one last desperate bid, and looked in quite another direction - success! We wonder if the cache has wandered, and is not in its original location now.

A really nice well formed track. Had old co ords which had been in the GPS for a while, but had no trouble finding it as it was quite open to view. Tried to cover it a bit better. Interesting to see it had been muggled - they made a note that they thought geocaching was a great idea - new converts maybe? Left a pet rock - a turtle. TFTC
This was a neat surprise. I really enjoyed the walk around here. I found the cache not really hidden at all; the previous entry in the logbook was by a muggle. The place where the container was positioned did not agree with my GPSr or the clue but I did not move it in case I got it all wrong and others could not find it later. I did cover it a little better than I found it however.

Nice walk today, we tackled the fallen tree and followed the old rail track along the flat until we reached the climb at the far end, bit more than a 2 rating we think, Punga continued up and Paua retreated back along the track, climbed over the tree again and started up the other end of the loop, quite a good track going up from this end, until she met up with Punga who was triumphant after finding the cache easily, somewhere way up high over the ridge. He said various local people have signed the logbook, several times. We both enjoyed the bush walk although Punga did most of the climbing. The scent from the white native clematis is heavenly at the moment, its out in bloom along the track. TFTC.
Foiled again! For the second time we attempted this one today, but the track was just a lake of water so we skipped it. We will be back!
Found it as not well hidden but by chance. Coordinates of where cache actually located are old coordinates, not what is listed here. My dog and I enjoyed the walk. Some lovely trees
Nice stroll along old trunk line. The walk was steep but nice! Was nice looking over the little town of Mangaweka. Lovely view from up there. Was fun playing with numbers!!!!Some were not what they seemed! lol!
Have been meaning for a long time to go and hunt out this cache but every time I have driven past over the last year or so I haven't had time. Managed to get there at last today. Track was very wet and muddy with quite a bit of snow on the ground as well to make things interesting. The seat near the cache was covered with snow. Cache was a quick find using the hint, about 10m away and on the other side of the clearing from where the GPSr was pointing me. I continued on and completed the loop track, a very pleasant and enjoyable walk. Signed log, TFTC!
Was out and about cleaning up a few caches, I had seen this cache when I came back south though here a while back but really didn't have the chance till now to stop and have a look for this one. Finding a park at the entrance and a quick walk anticlockwise around the loop track I finally got to GZ. After a quick search I found the cache in good order, sign and continue around the rest of the track. Thank you very much for bringing me into this nice walkway, really enjoyed reading all the signs that were on the walkway, just had to be a bit careful as the paths were a bit slippery, thanks for placing a cache here, TFTC TNLNSL (3250)
Took a little longer to get to than expected but enjoyed the walk. Nice spot to take a rest. Signed log. TFTC

Like MorganEd, we visited on the same day - and did not find anything. Quite disappointing as it was a nice place.
sad to say didnt find found one of the trades Eyeore so guessing cache has been muggle
will try again another time when I know for sure the state of the cache as the area is so beautiful i am definately happy to return

A nice loop walk with yummy blackberries beside the track - enjoyed by the handful! Miss Iarekt had no problem with the walk and our dog enjoyed running the track too.
14:55 Anything Gecko can do, I can do too... Albeit slower... Chose to go up & round from parking coordinates so 15 min in & 5 out. lol.

3340 Nice area and an enjoyable walk around the loop. Thank you for the cache placement.
Found after a short search. Good location, enjoyed the walk and completed the circuit. SL TFTC
Started at the wrong end so we walked the whole track which was easy once you got to top.Thanks.
This is a very pleasant, well-maintained reserve - the grassed paths have just been trimmed. Thanks for bringing us here and for the well-placed hide. We met a local at the car park who told us to go for a walk through the old rail tunnel on the other side of the road. Apparently the farmer doesn't mind, and "lots of people do it". It is just a short curving tunnel (not too dark) but there is a slip at the other end so there is a short scramble to emerge. We walked back across the farmland to our car, enjoying great views of Mangaweka township below, on a beautiful day.
got told of this cache as we had just met up with edvern at another site and took the opotunity while we were hear nice walk and liked the good sized trees.

Our first go at this and what a great start - thanks, we all had a great walk - 5 year old to unfit Mum!

Weren't sure if we should do this one or not as we were supposed to be in Lower Hutt by 4pm, but we decided to do it anyway. The flat part was quite boggy but still passable. A pleasant walk before lunch and all in all it took us about 38 mins (unfit!) including finding and signing the cache. (We made it to LH only 4 minutes late). NINO TFTC
