Found it!
Fairly quick find.
Sometimes I wonder who ever visits these places and finds hides like these....
Then I remember I'm chasing a Boxhill cache.
Out for a moderate days caching, 9th of nine. Needed a couple on the flats...

Left the office early to get this cache. These is one of the few cache left for me around Jville. Using phone gps to find out this cache is a mission. I almost give up until i found the object mentioned on hint. Tftc
This was a bit of a mission. I headed down the old stock route until got to a point where the GPS seemed about as close as I was going to get without leaving the track. Then I paused to consider if the cache might be nearby but with a moderate GPS error or whether I'm going to have to enter the somewhat uninviting area I was being directed to. After not finding a candidate hide I did the latter which involved a bit of bush bashing. Then I spent probably 20 minutes in a rather nasty area with the GPS gradually getting more confident with its fix and I was looking for something matching the hint. With nothing found, I widened my search area and poked around across the stream for a bit. Then, finally, I saw an object that was worthy of investigating, headed over and there was the cache. While I signed the log I let the GPS take an averaged reading. It didn't have particularly good confidence but it was 20m from GZ. I was glad to finally get that since I wasn't keen on returning here. TFTC.
Stood in the open space for a bit and the machine pointed right to the cache All dry inside TFTC
Easy find from the hint. It's a shame about the rubbish heap part way down the track.
Greetings from the UK! Out with will.e.coyote on his first geo-mission for his stag do. Great adventure!
Had to go get this one before I went back to the U.S. Dropped off a TB as well! TFTC!
1258 Caught the train out and walking back to central city collecting caches. First for the evening. Cache all good
Finally got to find this one, along with a dumped vehicle -Police about to be informed. TFTC.
Interesting piece of info. Disturbed a muggles who seemed to want some peace and quiet. Dog walking is a wonderful reason to be out and about. Tftc
Cache all looking good and bumped into a muggle taking his 4 wheel drive for a bit of explore
Not sure if it's missing or if it's my GPS. No braced posts in site so far as I could see?
Nice find with pattismith jr and two pooches in tow. Have driven past many times, good to read the history of the area
#192. Halfway through the 100 day challenge (Day 50). Been saving this one for a rainy day (so to speak) and indeed the rain started to fall just as we made it back to the car. Had a bit of a scramble to find it as GPS tried to convince me it was 10m SE of actual GZ but hint objects saved the day. Overgrown but still findable. TFTC
GPRs took me too far of the track - nothing like the hint object in there! Stood still and looked around and eventually the right spot became obvious.
It would still be easy to bring a (4WD) vehicle down from the top. Below is getting overgrown again with this season's blackberry growth - nasty; don't go that way!
Saw an escaped sheep trampling round in the bush down near the works.

No idea at all why it has taken us so long to get around to visiting this one.
A pleasant day to be making our way around a few caches, this one included.
Cache find was straightforward, all in order; log signed, then safely re-hidden, just as found.
TFTC found with team cacher Sweet P too

Found today on way to the Boxhill event. Abandoned car half way down track so don't attempt to drive down at present. GPS leading me all over place initially but when settled down led me to cache. TFTC.
Took more effort than required. With dodgy GPS I found myself at a totally incorrect GZ (what was a geotrail was more of what looked like a paua poacher trail). After making my way further down I found the more likely spot but again went the wrong way (it is not up the bait station side). After further exploration I found the hint object and was rewarded. Picked up the TBs to take to Auckland. TFTC
It looks like there's been some recent scrub clearing so it might be possible to get to the bottom.

Was in the area today picking up a few caches. Have seen this one when attacking caches on the other side of the quarry, and always thought .. 'another day'. No problems here today, but being down in the gully I did have to rely on the hint to get myself right on top of GZ (initially had gone too far up the side stream). Like others I was pleased I had NOT considered bringing the car down here, 'cause I'm fairly certain it wouldn't have made it back up.
Interesting history ... love it.

We left the car at the top, no chance of us driving down here. It might be a legitimate 'road' but it wasn't one we wanted to test out Had gpsr trouble as expected but the hint was really great. Tftc
TFTC, glad I didn't decide to drive down here, don't think we would have made it back up
This one has been appearing on the GPS when drive past. Today was the day to find as sunny southerly day and out and about with Selesi. There were a couple of nice looking sheep on the Stock route also. Took a little finding as didnt go in the best route. TFTC
Track quite steep at top, good condition Sheep weren't keen to see us and took fright. Lots of side track where others have been before. Good find UlmusLynx TFTC
This turned into an adventure. Inspected the track, and as rain was imminent decided the track was worth risking. Arrived at the bottom to find a guy in a 4WD studying a late model blue vehicle (sans tyres) that had been abandoned at the bottom. I scuttled away to grab at the cache as he eyed up the abandoned vehicle.
"You better go up first" he said. So I did a 18 point turn and set off up the hill. Going ok until I hit the larger aggregrate near the time. I was beached, wheels turning, smoking up a storm. He pulls in from and gives me a tow. At first he makes no progress, until I gun it again and we both get traction, wheelspinning up the hill.
"Cheers, mate".
He still doesn't know why I was there.

Got it. It would be a handy shortcut if the trail went all the way down the gorge. Tftc
A short walk was just what I needed on an evening that was chillier than it should have been at this time of year. Had I taken more notice of my surroundings and less of my GPSr, this would have been been a very quick find. Instead, I went for a bit of a wander and found what I was looking for when I ended back at pretty much where I started. TFTC.
Tftc. Once we sat and thought about. It became clear. The wildlife was scared off.
Nice view down here. Had to dodge a few menacing goats, managed to find once we stopped thinking too hard. TFTC
Was in the area tonight, so had to keep up the August run. Fortunately the track is very good so an easy walk down and back, and trusting the GPS resulted in a quick find. TFTC
#197 nearly 200. Maybe today. GPS out by about 10m but description got us there. Cache in good order. Don't drive a car down there, driving back up would challenge most vehicles and there is no turn around area.

Cache # 1,180 - Did this one on the way home tonight, taking advantage of the fine weather to knock this one off the list. Cache in good shape. TNLNSL. TFTC!
A nice quick easy find (now). Kudos to those who tracked it down in it's previous locale! TFTC.
Find #1481. Not a very pleasant location but I like how geocaching keeps this sort of history alive. The gps batteries were close to dying so scrambled to find this one before slogging up hill. SL TFTF
First to find at the new coordinates. I have to say it is a lot more accessible that at the old location when the blackberry took over. TFTC

Visited today and found the going nearly impassable. I am quite stunned as there was no vegetation over knee height along the track when I placed the cache. My apologies to recent finders as the battle with the head-height blackberry and gorse was not intended. I will relocate to a better position soon.
I agree with the CO. I tried this one this afternoon. I could only bash back so much blackberry with my 120kg frame and still got beaten up. . Had to give up with 85m to go.
Was going to go back in the near future with some tools to clear the path but, alas, I have been beaten to the punch.

Wow! I'm going to give this cache a favourite point for sheer adventure value. I agree with all the other loggers who reckon the terrain is under-rated. It's at least 3.5 with head high broom, gorse, blackberry and other mischievous plants blocking the way. A real 'fun' bash to GZ (I approached from above, leaving my car at the posted parking coordinates) where I ended up scratched and torn but happy to find the cache. The things we do for a smiley... TFTC, Biggles.
Approached this one from the bottom on a Sunday when the meat works was quiet. It is difficult from this direction as well with blackberries everywhere. I think the terrain rating could go up at least one point! I thoroughly recommend gumboots and lots of padded clothing as protection. Cache was in good condition, so I signed, put back and made my getaway. TFTC.
If by some cruel twist of fate I had to repeat this cache, I would come extra prepared with a machete, thickly padded wetsuit and a helicopter waiting at the end to pick me up.
Like to see the terrain/difficulty rating increased or better yet, the container moved closer to the parking co-ordinates.

Found after an incredible geo-adventure with kjwx this evening. Having read previous logs, we came prepared with sturdy boots and a sense of humour. I was filled with a sense of mystery and wonder for the first part of our journey down the route. I particularly loved the decaying car. We navigated through the boggy stage, and then things started to get much much harder. Pervasive blackberry and gorse growing above head height made us wish for machetes and wonder if we were ever going to reach the bottom. The sound of pitiful bleating was like angels singing, as we inched closer and closer. We reexamined the hint and had to ask ourselves "what gate?" When blackberries scratched my ears to shreds when I was replacing the cache, I decided to look for an alternative route back to the car. After consulting the map, I decided I'd far rather scale the near-vertical grass covered hill than face the blackberry/gorse/bog route. Kjwx was looking rebellious half way up, but as predicted our impromptu track led up to Khandallah suburbia. So, in conclusion, I would strongly recommend approaching this one FROM THE BOTTOM and not from the indicated car parking area. TFTC, and the memorable adventure!
As promised, we tried the bottom route to the cache, but even that wasn't a picnic as the grass was very high and the brambles exceedingly vicious. I also didn't like having to view the poor sheep penned up at the abattoir, awaiting their fate .
But we overcame the odds, and I have now a smiley to vanquish another dot day.

#3205. The old stock route took a little bit of finding from the bottom. Still took a fair bit of effort to get to GZ, but at least we avoided the bog coming down the track. TFTC.
We parked at the parking co-ords and started walking down (nearly a bush bash in some places!) until 220m from cache. Then the track turned into a stream. It was going to be the first cache of the day, and wet feet didn't appeal, so we decided to retreat and attempt the bottom approach another day.
Interesting Bit of History, always love these caches you learn something on,This was my last cache for 2011 TFTC
Approached this one from a differnt direction on the way home from a stocktake at work. Looked like others might have used this route as well, bit of blackberry but cache was quickly in hand with no hill or mud. Smell was a tad rich but TFTC.
We had attempted this one some time ago (in the winter) but the mud was much worse, we didn't get thoguht though it but it was ankle deep at one point. We reatreated no being in appropraite gear for the hunt.
After doing waterfall express today my feet were already wet so came to have another go. The mud wasn;t anywhere near as bad and I got past it without it going over the soles of my shoes.
once past the mud the track was pretty goo until 50m from the cache when it almost completly disappeared (I tried to make the track up the rise a bit more obvious for the next person). Once at the top of the small rise the track was back and the cache was quickly in hand.
A nice little challenge. People were working in the yards today but the growth is more than enough to hide what I was doing.

Not the most pleasant track I have ever walked in search of a geocache!
I had just finished reading about the need for gumboots and decided they weren't really required when I got to that section. Gumboots would still be quite useful!

The wet bit in the middle isn't too bad and once through it, the track is dry if a bit prickly the rest of the way. No smells today although some rather forlorn cattle in the stockyards. -May 06 GC, +horse. TFTC.
Track well overgrown but there is a geotrack to follow. Got to watch a couple of workers at the meat-works move the animals about. TFTC and left a TB 'May 2006' for a whizz round the Wellington area.
This was a major meltdown for Mrs TT, a vegetarian. After thrashing our way down the hill the sudden realisation that we were right above a whole heap of sheep heading for nirvana (!) caused a fair bit of drama. Sort of recovered, said a little prayer and stumbled back up the hill.
Interesting history, muddy track and a shame about the rubbish. TFTC - sort of!

The lovely scent of effluent brought back memories of my old work which tested the effluent coming out of this abattoir. I think we needed a machete for the track, but the 6yr old and 3yr old juniors enjoyed it none the same. They do not like prickles but cache was found without too many scratches.

Quite a wet track today after yesterdays rain, glad I had the boots on. On nearing the yards, the fragrance wafted up bringing back past memories of mustering and pushing sheep around the yards. A quick find once at the GZ and then it was back off to trudge back up the hill to the car. TNLN. TFTC
#651. Found on the way home from work. An interesting walk through an overgrown track where gorse is starting to take control of the last third of it. I would imagine the track will be far more difficult to navigate a year from now - the only thing holding the gorse back will likely be the geo-path to the cache. A quick find at GZ, thanks for this piece of history. TNLNSL, TFTC.
Not an overly inspiring walk down past derelict cars and sundry household rubbish. Track is overgrown so dress appropriately.

Track very overgrown and we have the scars to prove it. Overshot gz and had to backtrack. Tftc.
After trekking through Gorse, Blackberry and several more prickly bushes we found the cache. TFTC
Found while out and about this morning - a great view of the cattleyards from an alternative angle. TFTC
After some rain or something about the last 200m is across completely soaked ground.. After 10m realised I was definitely in the wrong shoes and turned around.. One day when I buy wellies I'll be back or might try find an alternative route...
The track started off easy enough but soon it got muddy and overgrown. Had to navigate around the muddy parts but the recently trampled greens encouraged us onwards. Caught views of sheep in crowed pens below but the views in the distant soon improved greatly and we knew the cache was nearby. A slightly challenging but interesting and enjoyable hike. TFTC.
Glad I heeded the warnings and didn't wear my running shoes with the ventilated soles for the stretch through the buttercup field. It was a woolshed smell today as they sorted stock in the yards. All a bit surreal with what sounded like the mother of all washing machines working in the quarry as well.

Nice walk, although there is a 20 metre stretch that is now a stream bed. Maybe there is a broken pipe somewhere. No bad smells today. Thanks for the great views.
Really did need better footwear and leggings for the approach to this one, I got quite wet. A quick find and a fast exit to get away from the smell from the nearby abattoir. Signed log, TFTC and for introducing me to this interesting route.
Forgot the gumboots today which was a real mistake. As I got close to the slaughter house, the smell of death was heavy in the air. Hundreds of sheep being killed today. Soon located cache. SL -TB Left GC TFTC
Heavy rain started as I parked at the top, by the time I'd walked down to the cache and back I was saturated. Ground was also very boggy. All the same TFTC
#1597. Knew about this route, but it's the first time we walked it. Until we changed the map, the Garmin in the car kept asking us to take this route when coming up the Ngauranga Gorge. Glad we hadn't taken its advice.

I'm too young to remember the stock yards in J'ville, but as a kid I do recall the way the railway tracks still extended beyond the station up to some huge concrete buffers in the carpark, presumably to allow loading/unloading of stock. I guess that that would be in the middle of Countdown now. The old milk treatment plant is only a short distance along the road from the parking coords, and I guess the old stock route would have provided a quick exit for the old nags no longer able to pull the milk carts! This cache was interesting, linking up a few historical aspects of the area.

I decided that it was time to do something about improving my carbon footprints so I walked from home after work this evening. Walked in from the parking co-ords, then after completing formalities at GZ climbed back up the hill to the water tanks at the bottom of Maldive street.
Interesting spot for a cache, certainly one of those ‘I wish I had thought about putting one here’ placements. Thanks Neil for setting it up, I really enjoyed doing this one. TNLN SL TFTC

Was a very interesting spot for a cache, found GZ after a quick walk down the path though an interesting spot with a fallen tree with some interesting writing on it. A bit of tip toeing though the water trying very hard not to drown my work shoes. Arrived at GZ found the cache and then a quick retreat back to the car, followed closely by the aroma from the nearby freezing works. Thanks for the exercise and a very interesting spot that I haven't being to before. TFTC TNLNSL (2222)
Woohoo FTF at about 8pm, headed down the track with a torch and geohound, needed torch on way back up, interesting view of abbatoir, glad I wasn't alone in the dark due to the dead bodies... of cars that is. TNLN SL TFTC
